"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not a vent but their is a promo up now. 30% off sale and select full-price merchandise. Also, free shipping today!

    1. I think JCrew posted a promo today just so we wouldn't fill the vent section with lack of promo complaints. (I'm certainly happy to finally have 30% off again)

    2. me too!. now if they would just fix the Canadian sale site.

  2. At last, I was waiting for free shipping! Might also check out the 30% off promo, you never know ....

  3. Kind of a vent: 3 items in my cart + all 3 excluded from promo = no sale for jcrew.

My money is going to Madewell instead.

    ReplyDelete
  4. No thanks. Too much is excluded and there's just way too many ruffles and weird shoulder shirts for me to even bother looking anymore.

And, maybe I'm the only one, but I'd love a nice classic corduroy blazer... With elbow patches and non shiney buttons. Sigh.

    1. there was a lovely corduroy jacket by Ines de la Fressange at Uniqlo! it's almost gone now, but sizes and colors keep popping back. Worth a look at $99 before promos.

    2. I keep wishing for J Crew to bring back the Matchstick cords. The Factory version is almost sold out; unfortunately they are not quite the same and the colors aren't great.

      Delete
    3. Ooooo, yes! I love my Matchstick cords. Really wish I had bought more when I had the chance. There were so many wonderful colors.

      Delete
    4. Everyone loved the Matchsticks, I dont understand why they phased them out. I also wish they'd offer jeans and cords in a non-skinny version. They're missing the opportunity to get my money lol!

    5. Talbots has straight leg corduroys and I noticed they now have size 0. I've always been sized out of Talbots so I'm going to try the chocolate brown ones once they go on sale. I believe they are around $95. That is way too much $$$ for cotton corduroy pants!

    6. Thanks @shopalot. I never look at Talbots because I've been sized out too. These cords look like a possibility.

    7. @shopalot I keep trying Talbots - nothing fits well. the catalog look interesting and keep luring me in. I loved Loft corduroys last year in the Julie fit, HTHS if they return!

    8. Lori, the Loft straight cords are back (online only). I ordered a pair of the Marisa fit yesterday to try out. I know what you are saying re: Talbots and the sizing. I'm willing to give the cords a try as I am desperate but have a feeling they will be frumpy on me. I'll report back if they actually carry them in the store or if they are online only also.

    9. Thanks @Shopalot! I'd apppreciate the review if you do try Talbots. For Loft, I love the Julie fit and know lots of people like Marisa. I adore cords!

    10. Ann Taylor Loft has had decent cords the past few years as well and they are a promo happy company

  5. There are a handful of new arrivals...I think? That sweatshirt with the big black ruffle across, a lace-up sweatshirt, some sweaters (including an OTS! omgstaaaap), the cute plaid bomber and skirt that was mentioned yesterday, and a red stripe turtleneck dress that is kind of cute but is cotton/linen(?).

    1. Yes this week is mini rollout.
Next big rollout is week of the 16th.

    2. what the heck is that sweatshirt with the big black ruffle diagonally across? It reminds me of sashes I had to wear in elementary school on flag days/assembly days or something?

    3. Hi eeps - to me this is an example of an item where even if I liked it a lot, I wouldn't pay $55. This is like, $12.99 at H&M. Fast fashion and JC prices don't mix.

      Delete
    4. It was at NYFW too. Last year (maybe spring? I think whenever Jenna's last show was.). I saw it in store. I don't really get it. 😂

      Delete
    5. @eeps, I think Cass or WFF posted that Diagonal Ruffle top on their IG -- brings to mind beauty pageant participants and how they wear their sashes with every outfit. I don't get it either!

      Delete
    6. @eeps Yes! Like she's just been crowned Miss Flashdance. I think my old crossing guard belt/sash was more unobtrusive than this.

      Delete
    7. @shopgrrrl - too funny. Yes this is definitely a Flashdance piece

    8. Plaid bomber jacket is nice. I picked it up last night at Nordstrom on a price match. I've tried it with jeans and dress pants; both work well. Fit is tts. I can actually see myself wearing this one a lot.

      Delete
    9. Is the plaid bomber more of a blazer indoor weight or coat outdoor weight? I love the look of it!

  6. Love the plaid bomber jacket and the blue lady jacket with red trim.

  7. Free shipping and a popback on the Chambray Ruffle blazer drew me in, and a lack of FS sealed the deal. Unfortunately a few other items I'd been eyeing were sold out all of the sudden, but perhaps they'll popback again, especially the Campbell 2-way stretch blazer in my size.

  8. The Collection ruffle skirt in dark stone with floating dot tulle underlay is now $899.99 + the promo. But for $8 I'll cover you in random layers of curtains from the fabric store for the same effect!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm frustrated - they finally have a good code and I see a couple of things that might work for me. But the site won't let me use the code AND my birthday coupon. That's not nice!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Against my better judgement, and ignoring the *terrible* reviews, I ordered the tie waist skirt in "italian stretch wool" (G8703). I've been looking for a green skirt so this will be a quick try on and return if nothing else.

  11. Fall clothes are here, but the tights aren't in store yet :/. WTF.

  12. So excited! Bought a bell-sleeve shirt from last year that was on popback! (G2264) Also got those ruffle khaki shorts and the marysia bikini that's on sale! I'd been wanting one for a while and this is certainly the best price I've seen! The only worrisome thing is that the "in Good Company" section seems to be lacking any collaboration besides new balance and liberty :/ I wonder if this is the end of collabs for j crew...

  13. CS ...has told they are aware of the problems with the online Canadian sale site. they said they are working on it. wow. its been like this for quite awhile. oh. well. not ordering anything anyway. I do not want to spend an hour or so every morning anymore..too much work J CREW. I am slowly getting over you.

    1. I feel the same way. With the wonky website issues and pricing games/ lack of promos I have broken my habit of looking at the website every morning when I wake up( and again on my lunch break at work and again maybe once in the evening). It also helps that I only have 4 items on my wishlist. After several weeks now of not obsessively looking at the website I find I don't miss it and I am happier to fill that time with other things.

      Delete
    2. Its funny the things you can do in a morning...instead of pouring over the sale section. feel like I have had this habit a long time. breaking it is hard. But J Crew is making it easier with the shenanigans of late

      Delete
    3. oh my goodness, I do a quick look of the items I'm stalking as soon as I get up in the morning and then a more through investigation once I get to the office. Today is the first time I have overslept in YEARS and although I'm kicking myself I didn't get on the site until 9 am...money saved.

    4. I'm over both the technical troubles and the lack of fresh meat in the sale section. Blow it out already and let's move into fall.

A few items I was very interested in are excluded so a pass for me.

Finding harder to scratch my J.Crew itch and get some retail action with the lame promo and terrible online site.

  14. Vent: I love the colours and quality of J.Crew leather jackets, but could we please have something, ANYTHING besides a moto? I love the look and all, but those style days have passed me by. I'm 5'9", size 12, late 40s, with my weight around my middle. I can't do cropped anything, let alone a leather jacket. Surely there's a chic, slightly longer style that would still fit the J.Crew esthetic?

    1. Shopgrrrl, I was just thinking about this the other day. Someone on here mentioned the new olive suede jacket at Jcrew factory and I went to look, and was disappointed to see another moto jacket. They are cute but it just seems overdone. I'm not planning on buying a leather (or Suede) jacket anytime in the near future butit does seem like they could come up with some different styles.

  15. @shopgrrrl I hear you! If you are willing to order online or in NYC or DC check out Massimo Dutti - I adore their leather jackets! Many of them do hit at the waist, but they have other styles each season and they're very nice. They run small, I'm a 6 and wear a Medium.

    1. Thanks! I'm not familiar with that brand but will check it out online!

    2. Agree with @Lori Jenkins. MD makes really nice leather jackets. In fact, their leather products as a whole are 👍🏽.

  16. When I try to sort the sale section, everything shows up with the wrong photo, i.e. photo of pea coat for trouser socks listing. This does not make me want to browse or shop.

    1. sale section online has been a mess lately...and J Crew doesn't seem to care.

  17. Noticed that the club collar Liberty shirt is no longer on the site. Sold out? See J Crew, classic style and good quality never go out of fashion. Please make more of this type of shirt and less off the shoulder/cold shoulder shirts. Lots of us don't work in the fashion industry and can't wear that stuff to work. How many "weekend" shirts does one need? ;)

  18. I love the plaid puffer vest (H0821), just curious if it runs like the excursion vests or if it's TTS.

  19. OT - anyone know if it's still 25% off in store?

  20. Anyone get the "Extra 15% Off, Just Because" email, take the survey, and nary a promo code in sight? Color me annoyed...

    1. Agreed, this was totally weird and deceptive! I tried the link again to make sure it wasn't a mistake, and it just redirected to the J.Crew homepage!

  21. I bit on the checkered cape scarf because it will be perfect as a light cover up these last 8 weeks of pregnancy. And I added on the embroidered peplum top because I've seen it all over Instagram and it seems lovely. It will be hard to judge fit but I should be able to at least try it on. I'm super excited about the cape though!

  22. Well, I bought two expensive dresses that are probably going back. I don't know. The fit is just weird lately on everything.

  23. Bought the expensive wool v neck sleeveless dress w tie waist. Got it today. So lumpy and awkward and badly styled.going back of course. J crew you are KILLING ME.

  24. I echo the comments above. I just received the Ratti Diamond print skirt and it is terrible. Too short and hips poof out. Silk is not great quality either.
