Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  2. The Floral Eyelet Bomber at Anthro is so lovely! The bomber shape doesn't work for me personally, but what a pretty piece.

  3. Cuyana’s new wool bomber = perfection! I’m usually a $10 t-shirt gal, but the $295 price for this jacket is totally warranted. Made in Italy, the shell is 96% virgin wool/4% spandex with a viscose lining. The wool is smooth but thick, maybe 4 or even 6 times as thick as JC’s super 120s, and drapes beautifully. I’d wear this in early spring and into late fall here in Wisconsin. The snap closures are strong and well-sewn. And, surprise, Cuyana included a full-length cloth, zip-up garment bag!

Cuyana runs small IME. I’m 5’3”, 110 lbs, and not very curvy; I usually take 00 or XXS at JC. I ordered the bomber in XS, and it fits me almost exactly like the website model. (To be clear, I look nothing like her or any other model!) 15” across the shoulders, 19” at the chest and 17” across at the waist. 21” length (not including the small stand collar), and a generous armhole that’s nearly 9” deep. I opted for black, and now it looks like both colors (there’s also a pink) are nearly sold out. Given how popular this jacket has been -- it just came out this week -- I wouldn’t be surprised if they produce more.

    1. Excellent and helpful review, cobalt! Would consider if I were in the market for such a jacket. I hope you enjoy yours!!

    2. Cobalt, love the review. Thanks for making me lust after a spendy sold-out jacket! It is certainly an investment piece. I'm glad yours works for you IRL. It's certainly a useful piece in our Wisconsin climate. I would probably get it in black if I were to buy, but the pink looks so pretty, too.

  4. Just returned from Roots, bought a wonderfully simple linen top, the Sable. Very versatile denim blue colour, looks boxy online but very flattering IRL. I also tried the Sakura sleeveless top in the same fabric, could have bought either, though the armholes on the Sakura were a bit gapey. Everything was 30% off with the Customer Appreciation sale (email only, not advertised in-store), I think it's public tomorrow, but only 25% off.

    1. Whoops, the sleeveless version is spelled Sekura, in case anyone's looking for it, a great minimalist piece. I also bought the Marine Print Scarf in Navy, it's a great weight and size, and of course, I love the map of Canada!

  5. On the way to the Crew, spotted green cargo pants at White House Black Market. I went in to get them and they were quite flattering and comfy. At nearly $100, and my color/size not being in stock (tried it in black), on top of no sale mentioned, I'm waiting. Right after I tried the pull on cargos at JC, and found them ill-fitting. The fabric is soft, but on top of only looking decent with rolled cuffs, the overall cut wasn't comfortable for me. Made my butt flat and showed my underwear line, plus the lines of the back pockets. The waist fabric was too thick, also :(

  6. I just received the Cropped Sailor Pants from Loft. I bought them in red and they are really nice! They fit really well, nice substantial fabric. Really flattering. I got them on sale, but regular price they are still very reasonable.

    1. Gosh, those are awful. I can imagine nonchalantly going to cross your legs, when BAM, a bunch of marble-sized pearls dig into the back of your leg (before popping off, I imagine!)
