Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Soooooo, I was going to go return the windowpane silk twill dress that I tried on last week that felt beautiful (lovely fabric) but fit weird (too large in the chest, weird puckering at the hips), but I tried it on again this morning and it fit fine. There was a slight puckering at the hips but nothing major.

It's such a pretty dress and I could see it being a workhorse in my wardrobe - perfect to wear under a cardigan or jacket at work, lovely for summer, and I only paid $39.99!

I feel like if I return it I'm going to regret it. But I hated it the first time I tried it on!

    1. I always try things on more than once. Unfortunately, some items end up in my closet and become the item I keep trying on and keep taking off. :(

    2. Were you trying it on with the same bra each time?

    3. How about going to a tailor to correct the chest area? Tailoring may be worth it given the great price you paid. Good luck!

    4. I was retaining water the day I first tried it on - that may have had something to do with it.

Tailoring in my area would cost more than the dress, and it might not even be perfect!

At least it's not final sale and I have 60 days...

  3. Confession time -- i HAD to break my January shopping ban b/c I happened to try on the Striped boatneck T-shirt with French logo (item F4407) in the Sale section at my store. Sizes there didn't fit, but I added it to my Wishlist and my size popped up this AM. I know i need another striped shirt like I need a hole in my head but it was so cute & only $18! Squee! I also threw in a pair of Teddies in Cabernet, $16. (I recently wore new Cargo pants w/ the zipper in aubergine and i hate how they fit :-(

    1. Oh no! Those pants are on their way to me! What didn't you like about them?

      Delete
    2. @PolishedTeacher, they're very cute, but because they're a bit high-waisted, they didn't fit me in my same size as last year's cargo pants (P25). I had to go up a size and the new size was baggy at the waist and stomach area, just a weird fit for me personally. But I definitely couldn't fit my 'regular' size -- too tight in the waist, crotch and calves. Another JCA said she had similar issues when I posted my review earlier this week, so not sure if it's just me or what. Disappointed, but hopefully it's not an issue for you & maybe mine is just a result of batch-cutting issues.

    3. Hmmm, I loved the skinny cargos from last year and ordered the aubergine ones in the same size as those. Hoping it works out since I took a chance with final sale (against my better judgement). Thanks for the response! Glad you got some great deals on other items.

    4. @Polishedteacher, I'd love to hear what you think re) city and I'm hoping they work out for you because they're nice pants. Maybe I just received a bum pair - my husband recently ordered three cords in different colors, same size, but one fit totally different than the rest. Womp womp!

  4. i need to return those chinos and the too large striped tunic. i think i'm going to give the tunic another shot in a smaller size but, heck no!, on those chinos.

i also did place an order for the ornate floral tippi and the ruffle chambray pants and some hoop earrings. there's some other stuff i want that isn't popping up online yet that i'll order on the next roll out: those liberty pjs and the windowpane martie pants (although, they feel a little summary to me)...

and where the heck are the rewards cards?!

and my shopping ban starts next month?

    1. @Miss JR, Rewards were mailed out at the beginning of this month so you know Crew, we won't start seeing them until early February at most. 😕

P.S., my store had some new Marties and they definitely seemed summery! Both in color and fabric.

  5. I have been so bad with these sales. I picked up that pair of sorel boots from the 50% sale and just yesterday the huntress coat in navy popped back in my size so I couldn't resist. I usually don't find much between January-March so I'm hoping after this last sale I won't see anything else. I didn't love anything I saw from the pre-order section, but if I may if I see them IRL!

  7. I'll be staying away. Massive protests scheduled for tonight has basically most businesses closing early and some even boarding up windows. I am hoping these stay peaceful and not turn into riots like after the election. Between this and some recent extraordinary weather, businesses have really been hurting.

  9. I would love a Style Guide even though I am on my ban. Anybody see them in stores yet?

This is OT but I was organizing my 99% J Crew closet today and I realized once again that there are some things that J Crew does sooo much better than anyone else. Take chambray shirts. I have an embarrassing collection - Always, Western, Star Dot Keeper, End on End and Selvedge - and they are each wonderful. Perfect weight, color, flattering fits.

  10. I stopped by my store to make some returns and checked out the sale section. A few pairs of Avery heels in larger sizes. I tried on the Distressed Lookout high rise jeans in black that are now on sale online, they're not on sale in store and as a matter of fact, I was told they weren't even an additional 40% off, but I knew they were since I checked this morning, didn't matter since I hated the way they fit.
Mostly I'm not loving the fit or feel of J.Crew jeans aside from the Point Sur which are all cotton. Even with skinny jeans, I prefer them a little "slouchy" and the material of these doesn't work for that, at least not for my body.
One new arrival I loved was the Gemma suede flats with pom-poms in festive green. I was wearing all black and my red coat, and the green popped. The color is beautiful. I didn't see the yellow in store. One thing, they run BIG. I tried on an 8 and it fit fine. I'd imagine they'd stretch a bit too, so I suggest sizing down a half size from your regular Gemma size.
Next off to Madewell where I wanted to try on more black jeans, including their version of the Rayner jean in black, with the let out hem, which is on sale plus an extra 40% off in store. My regular size fit fine, but I didn't like the cut on me. I almost ordered a size up just to see butthen I remembered the two pairs of Rayner jeans I bought and finally sold. I did however, fall in love with the Caldwell pull-on trousers. OMG, they are like my favorite lululemon wide leg pants but can be dressed up or worn with a tank and sandals. They have nice size pockets. They are amazing vacation pants. The legs are so full they can almost pass as a skirt, kind of like the ultra wide leg collection pants from J.Crew last winter, but in a washable poly :( blend. There are many sizes available online, but not additional 40% off. I took the smaller of my two pant sizes because I have a small waist (and luckily that was there). If you go to a store you can have them order and they won't be final sale.
Also at Madewell, all sale jewelry was an extra 50% off.

    1. @SuzHas, my store had the new yellow Gemmas and I thought the color veered more towards chartreuse, personally. This past holiday season, I ordered the suede Gemmas with contrast piping, but I returned them because I thought they ran wide (as opposed to long). I've had that issue with Gemmas before - I usually go down a size with them, but even when I do, some are still too wide. (Leopard fit perfectly, while the striped canvas ones from last summer feel like little boats and I had to buy heel catchers.)

Thanks for all the Madewell reviews, I recently spotted a pretty bracelet from them.

      Delete
    2. I was really hoping the Gemmas were true yellow. Me and chartreuse aren't friends.

      Delete
    3. I saw your comment about the yellow ones. They wouldn't work for me no matter what because of the orange. The green have a soft of turquoise trim and dark navy bow (reads as black) so I think the color would be versatile. I find the Gemma's wide too. And I don't have delicate feet AT ALL.

    4. Posted pics of the Caldwell pull on trousers in the dressing room and two ways I'd style them on IG @wearthislikethis.

    5. Also, received my faux fur stole (with blackwatch) and wow, is it gorgeous. It's substantial enough in size to wear without tucking the end through, as Bonnie bee and Ina both did on IG. If this pops back, GET IT.

    6. @SuzHas, you have to keep those pants, you can really pull them off!! Love how you've styled them. The stole sounds great, would love to see a pix!

@D*ska, re) those yellow Gemmas, let's wait for more JCAs to chime in because my impression may very well be mistaken. I was pressed for time so looked at everything quickly, but yea, I've been wanting a pair of sunny yellow suede shoes, like the Dulcis from last year.

    7. @TM93 I'm keeping the Caldwell pull on trousers! I love them.

  11. I'm hoping that this year works out like the last two where I severely curtailed my shopping. Not because I wanted to but because I couldn't find the time or energy. Two out of state moves, new job and back to school, whew! Now that I'm settled, I'm kinda liking the new less is more approach. I've only picked up truly special pieces, things that I really loved and fit beautifully. I want to keep to that. I haven't bought a tee in the last two years and still have plenty. Currrently I'm looking at the pre-order Windowpane Trench and wondering whether it fits the bill. The fabric content isn't even listed on the mobile site. I have no use for heat for coats anymore but I need my cool outerwear fix.

    1. Hi D*ska, it's nice to see you back! I love the idea of less is more. My goal is to pick special pieces and be more choosy. I need to wait for a couple of rollouts to go by I think rather than buy from each one.
The windowpane trench looks lovely, weird that they forgot to list the fabric.

    2. Hi D*ska (good to see you!) and jan - I think I saw on Mygoddy's IG pic that the windowpane trench is cotton, and it appears to possibly be unlined from the online pic - I'm wondering if it's like the shirting stripe trench (F3901) from last spring?

      Delete
    3. jan and silver_lining; thanks! I love being on this blog and hate when I can't find the time for it.
I am pleased that the windowpane trench is cotton. The sunshine state isn't conducive to poly and fabrics that don't breathe. I'd still love to see it on a blogger before I bit the bullet since now my nearest B&M store is 40 minutes away making returns too much of a hassle. The shirting stripe trench was a disappointment for me. I just didn't love it like I thought I would. i hope it doesn't sell out before I make up my mind.

  12. Will go to see what's new. For the first time in a long time, I don't have any open orders. I'm really happy with everything I ordered during 50% off sale & received this week. Collection suede leggings in black fit great; suede is supple; feels as nice as my Vince leggings & fit is tts. Wore them yesterday & likely again tomorrow. Collection wool flannel skirt in gray; fabric is nice. Doesn't feel as rough as tartan plaid even though it's also a wool/poly blend. Fit is tts, drape is beautiful & agree with reviews. Will have it hemmed to wear with flats. Italian cashmere tie neck sweater in gray; cashmere is soft, fit is tts and the gray perfectly matches J Crew merino wool skirt I bought a few years ago. Can't resist Drake, so I ordered the skinny scarf in BOP; already have it in Pink Bengal and love it. Also ordered unicorn pajama top; fit is tts, drapes well & works with leather cognac skirt. Top and print is really versatile and pretty. Still waiting to receive collection ultra wide leg pant in glen plaid Italian cashmere popped back in my size on super sale (was swooning over these and hope they work with Italian cashmere swing sweater in gray; loved this sweater so much I bought navy too) and the merino long cardigan in Sherwood forest. I discovered this cardigan late; ordered my first one this winter in neon orange and love it. It was a steal for $20 during 60% off sale.

    5. @maryeb, thank you! Now I see it. It's very cute and as someone pointed out on IG, it's rare that they offer a Collection item in Petite. Appreciative of that, though somewhat surprised JC decided to offer another item in shirting fabric, since I thought the last one was a dud. (That shirting stripe trench received bad reviews, ended up marked down, etc) Hopefully this particular fabric is sturdier because it's a nice looking coat.

    6. Agreed! It's a lovely coat. Debating between the Windowpane and the Striped Trench.

  14. Gingham ruffle button-up with grosgrain tie: just received this. Was contemplating between this and the final sale Thomas Mason black and white gingham, though I have a ruffle-less Thomas Mason black and white gingham. Related to a review I read, this feels like something a country western singer would have worn in the 80s. It's cute but I don't love the grosgrain ribbon which is kind of floppy. (It is removable.) Fit runs pretty small through the shoulders and upper back, it's a little tight on me. Without the ribbon it's a nice shirt, thescale of the gingham is very small but not quite microgingham. It's too similar to my other one without the ribbon so it's going back.

  15. Will post a pic of the faux fur stole on IG. I really like the mixed tones in the faux fur. I had a cheaper old navy version years ago and with the fabulous sale price, this is a much nicer quality piece for not a big chunk of change. The size is substantial, with a high waisted skirt it almost hits my waist.

    4. Agree - a lot of New Balance items in this rollout.

      Delete
    5. I agree that it was a bad collaboration choice (has there been any backlash?) and really why do they feel the need to jump on the active wear train that left the station a few years ago. My store said they'll be carrying it now, I couldn't feign enthusiasm.

      Delete
    6. I don't get the new balance thing.. I know crazy print leggings are a thing right now, but I'm at the gym five days a week and wear all black—aside from my sneakers. Most of my gym friends are in black leggings, If not all black. And how many regular women wear crop tops to the gym? I don't know many. Why no looser pants? Almost everything is so fitted. No thanks.

      Delete
    7. I know I'm in the minority, but I actually really like the NB stuff... I mountain bike, run, do yoga, sometimes rock climb and kickbox... And I like the fitted stuff more then baggy pants. I also get really tired of wearing black and gray so, yeah, give me crazy colors and patterns and stripes and polka dots galore!!!

And I do agree their timing is off... And my favorite gym clothing manufacturer is actually athleta, but I've really liked the pieces I have gotten from the JCrew NB colab.

      Delete
    8. It's good to hear a different perspective. I'm glad it works for you, it just seems like a BIG line when there are so many other fitness brands that don't do regular clothes.

      Delete
    9. I like some of the patterns on tops to wear with my black or gray leggings but I am also very hard on my workout clothes in terms of wear and laundry so I want something to last. My stuff from Athleta is generally the winner, even over Under Armour. For those prices I would want to know that they last well, don't lose shape with too many washings etc. I'm just reluctant to take that chance.

      Delete
    10. I like the overall aesthetic of the NB collab. I really enjoy the more preppy look of the pieces, and have found a few that I really like. The full-length leggings are awesome and I love them more than my trusty Under Armours.
I'm in the gym 5 times a week doing cardio and lifting, and I like that the JCrew/NB line lets me still feel put together and feminine when I'm moving heavy things :)

      Delete
    11. I'm glad that you girls are feeling the NB collab! I'm just a casual at home work out lady, so target c-9 and old navy work fine for me 😉 I just really miss the classic styles of the past, like the catalogs I used to browse through in middle school and high school wishing I could afford just one piece! (My obsession goes waaaay back, lol)

      Delete
  18. I think some of these product line decisions are margin related, I.e., bridal is very $$$ due to manufacturing costs and generally labor-intensive w returns and alterations. J Crew is discontinuing bridal. Athletic wear is pretty high - margin. Not only is it a trend albeit late in the game, but it is probably a more profitable line for them, especially since NB is assuming the risks of design and manufacture.

  28. Stopped by to say goodbye to my B&M (Albany, NY) on their last day - they've been open for 16 years, and I've been shopping there at least 12. Really bummed for them - such a friendly and helpful team. This will significantly impact my ordering as I am not used to paying to ship returns. JC, if you're going to continue to close B&M locations, you may want to consider something like the Madewell program that offers free return shipping to certain tiers (how about cardholders?).

Also, for any other upstate NY JCA's - they heard that the JC at DestiNY (Syracuse) renewed their lease for only one year, so it's possible that they could be the next to go. : /
