"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. NOT A VENT....but final sale seems to be only on 50% sale not the 40%....off most of the slae section.

    1. Ha, I guess they weren't getting a lot of takers on the final sale!

    2. Thanks for the heads up. I placed an order since final sale isn't showing up. Have to be able to return as I've never tried these things on and who knows with the sizing variations these days.

  2. I don't like that I can't see the tracking link anymore when I check 'your orders' on my account on jcrew.com. It just says 'shipped.'

    1. I noticed that too! From My Order History, it don't provide the link anymore?? Wondering if it's just a glitch.

    2. I noticed that too, very annoying. I called CS about it and they didn't understand what I was talking about.

    3. They are now using a new shipping service, Narvar, what the heck? The link in the shipping confirmation email won't even work. Why is shipping such an obstacle.

    4. Gap, BR and Loft use Narvar, too. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Yuck.

    5. Harvard - the geniuses who picked to my Anthropologie skirt from a warehouse in Queens, drove it right past my building in Manhattan to another warehouse in New Jersey, where it lingered for 3 or 4 days before going to western Pennsylvania for "processing." Their CS is based in an old-fashioned lunatic asylum (except some of these people are allowed to talk on the phone) and Anthro was useless. Haven't ordered anything from them since, and I returned the skirt when it finally arrived because I couldn't love it after that.

    6. Oops that was NARVAR not Harvard. D*mn autocorrect.

    7. anthropologie shipping is literally the worst. I will never order from them online again. I was sent wrong items, there was no confirmation email or shipping tracking, had to get yelled at in the store to return things. never again.

    8. So is Narvar managing the shipping? I have an order with 2 items - one had a shipping label printed on 10/3 with no other activity, the other was released to my post office on 10/4 with no other activity. I see Madewell's also using them, and they sent me a totally different item than I ordered - although they also separately mailed me the item that I did order. What a mess!

    9. If you click on the tracking number from your email it will take you to a page that shows the estimated delivery date. You can add your phone number to receive text updates.

I put a screenshot at the bottom of this post.

  3. Placed an order through a vps this morning and I was charged shipping. Now emailing for an adjustment. New policy?

  4. The pricing game is getting on my nerves. Paying full price at JC is like paying full price at Banana Republic- don't do it!
The online sale is FULL of swim....

  5. Not a vent but went to the store last night and got a gorgeous bright red corduroy short skirt for around $25. It had a very interesting zipper and snap on the back. It seemed very old school J.Crew. Well made and gorgrous. A steal at $25. They said it just went to clearance on Monday. I was lucky they still had sizes.

  6. Lost a popback of Avery tweed shoes late last night - every time I went to pay, the charges for shoes and shipping were in Singaporean currency. Each time I clicked on the little US flag to change things, I was automatically signed out and redirected to home page. Bye bye shoes. Thanks a bunch, JC!

    1. What size do you need? My store had a 9.5 and I think they said an 8 yesterday...

    2. 8 would do, thanks, Wendy, which is your store?

    3. Mall at Green Hills in Nashville, TN. Good luck!

    4. Their is a size 7.5 online right now if anyone's looking!

  7. WFF: Since Duchess Kate wore those pretty Avery shoes, there is probably no hope of ever getting those!

    1. For JCAs in Toronto, I'm pretty sure the Eaton Centre location still has a few pairs left, or at least they did when I was there earlier today.

  8. Hi does anyone know if there are any more roll outs for winter coats - or more specifically what the Holiday roll out will look like? thank you

  9. I am so frustrated about missing out on the pink Rhodes pants! When I went to bed late last night, it was showing that lost sizes were still available. When I got up this morning (5:30 CST), they were all gone and only the navy was available! My fault for not wanting to pay full price and take a gamble on if I'd get a price adjustment. Still disappointing after stalking them for weeks.

    1. Thanks for sharing, st. I wonder if this is why all the Outdoor Voices stuff went to markdown.

    2. J.Crew posted a pic on their IG. I like New Balance...I think it's a good decision to team up with a company like NB. Can't wait to see what the collab looks like!

    3. I'm kind of over the athleisure thing, especially at the beginning of fall when I'm looking for wool and flannel and holiday sparkle. I love Athleta {and Target} for that kind of item, it would need to be pretty amazing I think to switch.

    4. It seems like they're a year or so too late with the athleisure line. Or maybe it's just a workout line which would make more sense. Both are a bit off-brand for J. Crew.

    5. I got an invitation to a store event for this! I'll withhold judgement til I get to see it in person.

  11. I tried the navy sailor pants in store today, $99.99 and 40% off. I really wanted the green but my store didn't have any. I forgot my phone and couldn't take pics, and I wanted to try them with a few things at home, but it was final sale and that was that. I also got reprimanded for returning items I bought for my husband at 30% off (which then were online for 50% off) not realizing they were final sale. Luckily they took them back.
I wish they'd just allow a shorter return period for sale items as opposed to final sale. Especially when it's a "newer" shape like that sailor pants. Oh well.

    1. Ironically, they're not even final sale online anymore. So I may order them in the green in regular and tall. Not sure the regular length works, I may prefer two inches longer.

  12. We have all become pros at price watching at J Crew. I just keep items in my shopping bag and apply the promo every time it changes to see what happens. Discover price protection has saved me a few times too.

  13. I can't stand that there's a time limit to spend fall rewards. I think it's October 15th. When does the big rollout happen? I'm trying to hold on to it for that. Banana rewards do not have a time limit that I'm aware of.

    1. Hi kamantha - Lately, JC has been expanding the time limit to spend rewards so I wouldn't be surprised if they sent out an e-mail saying they're good till 10/31. I know my Gap rewards have an expiration date, but it's way out - at least 6 months.

      Delete
    2. Banana rewards do have a time limit, but it's generous, like silver-lining said, and much easier to accrue than J. Crew rewards, that's for sure!

      Delete
    3. Thanks. 6 months is VERY generous. JCrew should adopt that. I always get a feeling that they limit the time so you cant use them on big rollouts.

      Delete
    4. I'm pretty sure if you use the rewards card to buy something and then return that item, they give it back to you as a gift card which has no expiration date (unless they recently changed this practice).

      Delete
    5. @Cass -- thank you for that reminder, you're absolutely correct! (Well, this was true at least two rewards ago and I'd be very surprised if they changed this policy. Hope not!) Good to remember this, it is reassuring info to keep in mind.

  14. The inconsistent sizing on items across colours! I got the teal Harlow cardigan last month in XXS, and it fit perfectly. I decided to grab the yellow one now that it's on sale and got the same size, assuming they would fit the same (which is my own fault, I should have tried it on anyway just to be safe, especially for final sale items), and I couldn't fit my arms all the way through the sleeves! I ended up having to go back to size up, but I spent twice as much as I should have on it, in a way.

    1. Xan, that is so frustrating! If something is the wrong size (even final sale items) they will exchange it for you. I hope you didn't keep the one that doesn't fit...
