Different Ways to Wear a Scarf

"Thanks!" to Rosa in DC who let us know about a post over at Refinery29 (click here) about how to wear scarves this season. Also included in the post, a few images of J.Crew! :)
4 New Ways To Wear A Scarf
May 12, 2010

Tuck the ends into a belt— For beautiful scarves you want to show off, loop one around your neck and hold it in place with a belt. It's an interesting way to add a casual layer.

Try out some new headscarf tricks— There's nothing new about wearing a scarf on your head, but we suggest test-driving a few new twists. We love taking longer, skinny scarves and braiding them up, à la our artist-friend Francesca, or going more glam and wearing one turban-style.

Channel a grown-up Girl Scout— Take your smaller scarves and tie it around your neck like a bandanna with the two ends in front. Pick a scarf in a great print to keep it from looking too hokey.

Cinch your waist, obi style
— With a longer scarf, wrap it around the smallest part of your waist. Secure it with a belt for a more polished look.
J.Crew really embraces the use of the scarf no matter what the season, even summer time! Personally, I find it difficult to wear a scarf during the hotter days for the obvious reason. Although I should add that I really do love the look of a t-shirt, shorts, and thin scarf. But I just can't bring myself to do it. ;)

What are your thoughts on the different ways to wear scarves? Have you tried any of the methods listed here? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Spotted in Glamour Magazine

A big "thanks!" to Kim, who not only let us know about two J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of Glamour Magazine, but also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The image features both a J.Crew top and the ever-so-cool Panama Hat (Item 23793; $58.00) which J.Crew shares as the following:
The legendary Panama hat gained its iconic status when President Theodore Roosevelt wore one on his visit to the Panama Canal. Since then, these hats have graced the heads of style greats ranging from Ernest Hemingway to Paul Newman (you can't get much more authentic than that). Woven entirely by hand in Ecuador from fronds of the toquilla palm (so no two are exactly alike), it's the perfect tomboy touch to pretty much any ensemble. Straw. Interior cotton sweatband. Import. Available in select stores.
I love the concept of the Panama Hat but I just don't think I can pull it off. Also, I don't have any place (like on holiday at some amazing beach resort) to really wear a hat like that too. Ah well! :)

What are your thoughts on the top & hat featured? Do you own either item? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Now Available at Net-A-Porter

"Thanks!" to Manda, who let us know that J.Crew is finally available at Net-A-Porter (click here to shop online).

First impressions: not impressed. The layout (both in the main page and item page) looks bland to me. There are some positives though... (1) At least when you roll-over the clothing item on the main page, the site shows you an outfit with it. (2) The item page probably shows a more realistic image of what the item looks like.

Also the prices seem to have slightly rounded up. For example, the Suckered Gingham Shirt (Item 26238; $69.50) jumped fifty cents at the Net-a-Porter site Gingham Button-Down Shirt (Code 100215; $70.00). I am actually pleasantly surprised that the increase was so minimal, I honestly expected more. Also changed, the catchy product names and lavish descriptions. ;)

Lastly, I expected to see more merchandise available. So far I just see tops. Not sure why that is. Maybe it's because I am in the States? Maybe because more stuff is arriving online in the next few weeks?

What are your thoughts on the arrival at Net-a-Porter? Will you shop J.Crew via Net-A-Porter? Are there any pieces you are interested in?

J.Crew Spotted in Ladies Home Journal {wahoo!}

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about several J.Crew items being spotted in the June 2010 issue of Ladies Home Journal, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the images below to see it larger.)

The first image of the post has two items. First, the Linen-Silk Cargo Pant (Item 27542; $89.50) with a sideways pocket (um, okay). The linen-silk combo sound super comfy to wear. However, they probably would make the pants look like a mess on with all the wrinkles! ;) Second, the super cute Gabby Satchel (Item 27907; $325.00). It's nice to see how big (in terms of proportions) the bag is next to an actual person!

The second page features either the Vintage Cotton V-Neck Tee (Item 24500; $29.50) or the Perfect-Fit Petal Tee (Item 27272; $29.50, now $25.00) from J.Crew. In either case, a simple white tee can really make an outfit. Love it!

The third page features the Solid Ruched Halter Tank (Item 27781; $80.00) in "Neon Purple". The ruching on the bathing suit looks like it will flatter any body type!

What are your thoughts on the items featured in the magazine? Have you tried on or purchase any of the items listed here? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew's Jenna Lyons in Elle Decor Magazine {what she is loving}

"Thanks!" to Stephanie, & Raina, who let us know that J.Crew's Jenna Lyons is in the latest issue of Elle Decor Magazine (click here). Also, "thanks!" to Raina (of the lovely "If The Lamp Shade Fits" blog) who shared the above image from the magazine.

The article features "What J.Crew's Jenna Lyons Can't Live Without". The following is also shared:
In ELLE DECOR’s Shortlist, Jenna lists the 12 things she can’t live without, including Nars Lip Pencil in Red Square , silver vases from Astier de Villatte, vintage Miriam Haskell jewelry, and the beach.
It looks as though Jenna is wearing the same outfit— J.Crew's Vintage Bateau Top (Item 24484; $36.00) with a pair of sequin harem pants— from the segment on Oprah (refer to the April 22nd "Video of Jenna Lyons on Oprah!" post). That is definitely an outfit one remembers! ;)

If you happen to subscribe or read this issue of Elle Decor, let us know your thoughts on the article! :)

J.Crew Email: A special gift from J.Crew & Tablet Hotels

"Thanks!" to so many of you, including Marietta, Twiga, Faith, RatsOnParade, JustVisiting, & DrDrama, as well as Corry, kellyanne311, Drewablank, JBird, IRL, DaniBP, FFM, & dinagideon (in this post), who let us know the latest promotion from J.Crew.

The email announces that J.Crew is teaming up with Tablet Hotels for some special perks (click here to read more on it). Essentially customers can get a free membership to the Table Plus Program.

Not going to lie, I am confused by this combination. Not really sure why J.Crew would team up with Tablet Hotels. But it seems like a nice offer.

What are your thoughts on this promotion? Is this a good extension of J.Crew's partnerships? Will you sign up? :)

Surprise! Log Into J.Crew for Free Shipping {yey!}

"Thanks!" to so many of you, including Twiga, AJC (in this post), & Silver_Lining (in this post), who let us know the latest promotion from J.Crew.

J.Crew is offering select customers free shipping when you log-into your J.Crew account. According to Silver_Lining, this offer will expire 5/31/10. Twiga shares the following message when you log-in (& are selected to receive it):
As a special thank you, we will be offering some exclusive benefits throughout the year. To make sure you are taking full advantage of each and every perk, check your email and sign in to your registered J.Crew account each time you visit jcrew.com. Today, please enjoy free standard shipping.
It is still a complete mystery to me the rationale of which customers get selected. (For the record, I was once again not selected. Like an optimistic dork, I rushed to log-in and found nothing.) ;) However, "congrats!" to those who have the offer! :)

J.Crew Spotted in InStyle Magazine!

A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, DrDrama, & SunInSeattle, who not only let us know about J.Crew items being spotted in the latest issue of InStyle Magazine, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)

The first page features a J.Crew Dress ($168) that is a part of the new arrivals discussed in this past Sunday's "Sneak Peek: What's to Come This Summer {& later this week!}" post. I l-o-v-e the dress but not feeling the price. Seems a bit high for what I see (in terms of fabric).

The second page features the Denim Minnie Pant (Item 23559; $98.00, now $78.00) which J.Crew's touts as "our blockbuster pant of the year—Minnie —now in two-way-stretch Turkish denim. We added exposed ankle zippers too—a small but elegant design detail you'll love".

What are your thoughts on the dress & jeans featured? Do you like the style of the dress? Do you own the jeans? If so, please share! :)
