J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Did anyone get the $50 off $50 card in the mail? I didn't (yet at least), but a friend of mine did...

    1. I thought it was off $150. Let me check!

    2. Mine at least is 50 off 150 and it’s the type that’s not supposed to be combined with any other offers, so for example you might not be able to use it in addition to any other code. Unless they allow you to combine it’s not really a good offer.

    3. I think there are both types floating around!

    4. I received the $50 off of $50 coupon yesterday in the mail. Very surprised. It does say not combinable with other promos but I bet it would work in the store, if not online. Thanks, J Crew!

    5. Ha, well 50 off 50 or 25 off 25 is better than 50 off 150! I think anyway.

    6. I just got a box of cards, would have preferred $25. I do have a $10 no min card good in the store IF I get there before it expires. I could always use it for a small gift or two.

    7. I just got the $25 off $25 and am so pleased! Given that it came in a little advertising gift guide pamphlet I was so happy I was on the lookout for a promotion, otherwise it might have gone straight in the recycling. Thanks for putting me on alert, JCAs!

  2. $25 off $25, for me...I was excited about my coupon until I saw your message that there is a $50 off gift floating around. The season of thanksgiving, huh? It was more than I had so I will just say, Thanks JC! Hope everyone's holiday has been filled with much joy and a lot of friends and family so far.

    1. And to ensure that JC knows how much I appreciate my 1st gift, I have already put my coupon in my wallet so that I don't forget it when I head out of the house. Happy Shopping JCAs!

  4. I received my red chateau puffer in size small. Nice I tightened the waist the fit is perfect. I wouldn’t mind an extra inch or so in length but it covers my butt which is what I wanted. As much I as like the tie belted waist of the Wintress, this is just simpler. It’s cozy.
The only thing I could see being an issue is dirt, but that’s pretty much the case with any color puffer, even the black shows makeup rubbings around the collar, so you can’t win.
Today for yoga and errands I wore it with a pair of Alo MOTO leggings and my black Nordic boots with red laces and I felt fairly stylish (even though I was basically in sweats.)

    1. Sounds great for a grey day! I wore those boots yesterday along with last winters redline find - a charcoal jeweled fair isle sweater dress. With the black laces, since I was not wearing red. Those are the most comfortable boots ever, but I wouldn't wear them in actual factual slushy snow. I really only wore them in my garage at home and at work where I park in another garage. When I've been walking I wear my LLBean boots.

Thanks for size info on the puffer, I'd probably go with M then. But not looking, I've got a long black lightweight puffer and a serious old down parka.

    2. Agreed. If it’s really wet I wear bean boots or my Sperry with red laces (from crew, but the sole on those is wearing down). The Nordic boots are so warm and comfy, if we can find them on sale like end of season last year I’ll certainly buy another color.
If I didn’t want the red, I’d prob get the tall in the puffer, but none of the other colors appealed to me except for the ivory and that would get too dirty for me.

  5. I received a BIG holiday order today, here are some mini reviews (in 2 parts because I ordered too much lol):

Drapey velvet camisole- I like the shape much better than last year's version-it has darts!  Fully covers bra straps.  Still think the $40 I paid is too steep for a top I can only wear for holiday festivities, so it will go back, but when they inevitably slash prices because they made far too many, I'll consider picking it up again.

Sherpa-lined flannel robe in oatmeal- Don't size down, I'm between an XS and S depending on the J. Crew item, and the S/M was the right size, not oversized at all.  The inside is very plush and cozy, but I wasn't as in love with the outer fabric, it seemed too thin and prone to wrinkling to stand up to the thicker lining.  The tartan versions may not show it as much as the solid lighter color does though.  I didn't really need a robe, but if you do, it is very snuggly.  I'll be returning it, but if someone had gifted it to me I would gladly keep it.

Open V-neck shirt in black watch plaid- all of the black watch items I got in this order seem too low contrast and just read dark and muddled, not as a tartan.  This fit so weird in the sleeves, there was so much volume to the body of the sleeve, but the wrist was very fitted (and I have skinny wrists)and the sleeves were either too short or too long- it fell halfway between 3/4 and my wrists.  I have previously tried on the abstract floral version of this top and didn't have this issue with the sleeves.  Flannel material is soft but the fit makes this an automatic return.

Girl's faux-striped earmuffs- I LOVE vintage J. Crew's earmuffs and this was the only version they made this year, retail or factory.  Haven't found a brand that makes them as nicely, including Burberry (right proportions but not as soft or angled as comfortably), and I'm so sad they aren't making more!  The girl's size fit just fine on my adult head.  My husband said it looked like I had parrots on my ears lol.  Even though I have both pink and green coats I agree they are a bit loud so back they'll go and I'll stick with my current collection.

Holiday Greens sweatshirt- disappointed that the tiny white stars aren't glittery or a crystal- it would have made this so cute!  I'm not normally a fan of graphics but for some reason I was drawn to this, it doesn't feel like it's trying too hard to be fake vintage, if that makes sense?  I like my sweatshirts fitted and more like tops, so I sized down to XS.  If you wanted a sweatshirt feel/look, it is TTS.  Not too boxy and not too short.  Inner material is a terry-like feel, it's by no means rough or uncomfortable, but this would have moved from a like to a love if the backing was a soft fleece, where you just want to snuggle in it all day.  I'm leaning towards keeping but not completely sold on it yet.

  6. Reviews part 2:
Merino mockneck sweater with tartan scarf tie: Bow is big and floppy and in the black watch color way, too dark and low-contrast.  Did nothing for me- would rather wear a Tippi with a black watch shirt collar poking out.  Return.

Tie Waist Midi in dotted floral- So flattering on me- I'm busty and it isn't too tight in the chest but isn't shapeless since the tie gives me a tiny waist, and the high-low hem falls in just the right length for me at 5'4".  The print is also very much in my style wheelhouse, and reminds me of why I fell in love with the J. Crew of yore.  I already knew from an earlier store try-on that this would almost certainly be a keeper and was glad that a second fitting lived up to my overwhelmingly positive first impression.

No. 2 pencil skirt in pink confetti tweed- the pink is bright and the silver is shiny but the pattern is so fine-scale that I think it's more work appropriate than a festive party skirt.  I got a 2 in the pencil skirt in white tweed with multicolor stripes earlier this year/last year, but found the 2 too snug in this and sized up to a 4.  Likely a keep even though my workplace isn't this formal, so will think more critically about whether I'll truly wear it later in the return period.

Sophie open-front sweater blazer in black watch- This was my first time trying on the Sophie and I wish I had done so sooner.  Fit is great in the XS, it's comfy and not nearly as heavy as my merino sweater blazer (the version with the buttons), and I immediately want one in all the colors.  I love Black Watch plaid but again found this a little dark.  If I snag a deal on a solid version then this one might go back, otherwise I'll keep for now.

Gemstone sweater in supersoft yarn- TTS in a small for me.  The gems are sooo sparkly in person but don't show up well at all in photographs, which may defeat its intended purpose for me, of wearing it to some upcoming holiday parties.  The sleeves are a bit long and I don't want to cuff them as it disrupts the look of all over jewels. The shape in the body is "I'm a sweater"- nothing special, but isn't unflattering.  I'm also a bit wary of the reputation of supersoft yarn.  I'm a bit of a magpie and so the sparkly bits make me want to keep it, but I'm on the fence....opinions?
