Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

    1. Ordered gingham flats in yellow for less than $20. Saw them on yiur IG and loved them! With our temps in the 80s and 90s, I can still wear them and they’ll be great for next spring and summer.

    2. @mygoddy Great score!! You’ll love them, they’re so cute. I packed mine away as it’s getting too cold for them here #lol

    4. I ordered those gingham flats too, but likely will not wear them until next year, unless we get a warmer day. Sized up based on reviews.

    5. How much did you size up on the gingham flats? I’ve been watching them all season & what a great price now.

      Delete
    6. Since 1/2 up was not available, I did a full size. Two of the 3 reviews said very small...plus pointy toe shoes often seem to run small.

    7. Thanks pbanos I ordered up 1/2 size & hope they fit I was worried that a whole size might be too long. Thank goodness not final sale

    2. Hey Jan, I'm right there with you too. Haven't ordered since mid August. No promos, high prices and the change to shipping charges have stopped me. With returns costing $30 I'm pretty reluctant to order anything I haven't tried on before.

Been ordering from The Bay, BR, Sporting Life, and Lacoste. They obviously want Canadian business.

      Delete
    3. Hi jcrew guy, I’m trying to avoid having returns so I’ve been holding off since I’ve been having a hard time with sizing. I did just get two $30 return fees refunded by PayPal (from August purchases that I returned) so that’s an option in case you order. But the shipping fee $14 is a deterrent in the first place.
I’ve been having luck with the Bay and others too.

  4. Amazing how some prices dropped significantly. I was looking at the studded lace up sandals earlier in the week. I don’t have white flat sandals but they were 112 or something. All of a sudden today they were much less.
The chiffon mockneck top in black has been on my wishlist so I grabbed that in XS. I like that silhouette.

    1. I bought the cornflower blue cashmere sweater too. I bought two sizes and had them shipped to the store because I don't want it to be too tight. Also bought the newsboy cap, the Reeds X J.Crew puff-sleeve sweater in 2 sizes and the Strappy block-heel sandal in crocodile-embossed leather in 2 sizes. I wonder how the newsboy cap can fit everyone's head but I'll find out when it arrives.

    5. @Dana @ST @shopalot the cornflower blue is such a beautiful color! I must admit I was tempted to order it but I have the cashmere sweater in bright harbor from last year, so my sensible self prevailed (at least for now😉)

  6. My store is 40% off everything including sale. They also have a promo on the side neck button sweater ($29.50 normally $79.50). You can get an extra 15% off with your J. Crew card.

Tried the midi skirt in burgundy. It’s a no go for me. Made me look bigger than I am and sat funny on my waist. I’m typically a 6-8 and neither size was flattering. I do love my camo dreamy pants for lounging in this cooler weather. Highly recommend!

  7. I picked up the tiered dress in Ratti grandi fiori print. I contemplated the cashmere sweaters too but couldn't work with most of the colors. It's funny that many of us picked up the same things - shows we must have the same taste.

    1. eeps I bought the same Ratti dress earlier this week with the 50% sale :) I'm hoping it might be a good option for our trip to Portugal next week, it arrives Tuesday I think. I had some things in my cart this morning but got distracted and besides, nothing will arrive before we leave and I don't need packages piling up while we're away, haha. I am sad I didn't get the s/s Reeds puff sleeve sweater but it'll have to wait.

    2. Mine doesn’t have a ship date yet let alone a delivery date. Can’t wait to hear what you think.

    3. My Ratti tiered dress arrived on Saturday - I ordered a 6 which is the smaller of my two dress sizes these days. The print is beautiful and the colors are saturated. It is cotton with a cotton lining. If you have the tiered popover dress it's lined similar to that dress. Honestly, I wish the tiered popover dress was the same fit! It hits above the knee on me (5'8") and has a nice cinched waist which works for my shape. There is quite a bit of space between the fabric covered buttons on the front bodice and while it fits my chest fine there is a little gap between the bottom button and the waistline but I think I'll be fine with some fabric tape. The sleeves are bracelet length. I wouldn't have minded another inch in the length but it's cute. That being said, I don't know if it's an absolute love for me but I can see why it has such rave reviews.

    4. Anne thanks for the update. I waffled on this dress until my size was sold out.

    5. Received mine today and I totally get what you’re saying now. Between the puffed sleeves, tiered skirt and large floral graphic, it makes me look like I’m wearing a lot of fabric. Actually I’d say it’s wearing me not the other way around. I look short and fat, to be frank. I got my regular dress size and it’s probably a little wide. It’s not for my height or figure.

Thanks so much for letting me know the website showed it was still in stock.

  21. Hello JCAs! No store visit for me, just another observation that I have to mention...what is it with ill-fitting close on the models in the website photos? If the clothing doesn't even look good on a model, I have a difficult time believing that it's going to look good on me. Granted, I'm sure many times they are not putting the correct size on the models, and I know that the models are often on the tall side, but why not put them in sizes that actually fit, so that they look appealing to the shopper?

  23. I got most of last week’s order, aside from two sandals. To say I’m disappointed in quality is an understatement.
Linen roll-cuff T-shirt is the only item I’m keeping. Although I don’t see roll sleeves at all. For under $10 it’s fine. I sized up to a small. L4596

Crinkle chiffon smocked top AC666 BLACK: X-SMALL
I’m so disappointed in this. It was basically the only thing I liked. It feels so cheap. If the quality was similar to the sleeveless one it would be much better but the material is thinner, the cut is skimpy, the sleeves are so short and it barely reaches my belly button.

Keyhole V-neck top in satin back crepeItem: AG548 Color: BRIGHT CERISE Size: X-SMALL. Matronly. Runs much bigger than the top above. Ill fitting on me.

Wide waist belt Item: AB534 Color: BLACK. Size: X-SMALL. Junk. Looks like a belt you’d get for free with a dress. Says leather but if it is leather it’s bonded crap. Runs super small. Garbage.

Usually I try things on several times. I couldn’t even get this stuff off fast enough and won’t give it a second look.

    1. I should add the Roll cuff linen t shirt is different than shown. Maybe just the black is different but the sleeves are shorter and it says Point sur. The other colors all seem to have Jcrew tags. Not a big deal for me either way but just look at the specific color before you buy as it may not be the same shirt as the model is wearing.

  24. I received the yellow silk gingham flats, a full size up. And they are still too narrow and very uncomfortable, return. Too bad, the pattern is so pretty.

Still waiting on a denim jacket, a suede belt and the short sleeve sweater/top that matches my black and white midi sweater skirt.

  25. Got my shoes today.
    Studded wrap sandals
    item: A4966
    size: 8H MEDIUM
    color: WHITE
These just don’t look great on and don’t feel as secure as the Madewell boardwalk laceups. I love the studs and the price is great so too bad.

Strappy block-heel sandal in crocodile-embossed leather
    item: AC167
    size: 8H MEDIUM
    color: RICH SCARLET
These are pretty for sure, but the blood red crocodile embossing on cheap leather looks kind of junky. The straps are kind of stiff, not in a painful way but in a leather looks cheap way.

    Both going back.

    1. I'm sort of glad my shoes didn't work out, I have no room for them any way...what do you think?

I forgot to mention I received a pair of black/grey/ivory velvet leopard print Sea Vees that were on clearance. They fit great like the grey flannel Sea Vees I wore today. So despite my sneaker overload I'm keeping them. I think they were a popback from last winter.

      Delete
    2. Same. In theory I could use a casual heeled sandal but this is a little much for casual wear and not quite right for dressing up. They’d be fine with distressed jeans but I don’t need them for that,

I like those Seavees. I switched the laces on my black velvet ones to be ivory instead of the tulle laces and love them. If I saw those gray leopard on clearance I’d get them.

    3. The yellow gingham sling back shoes didn’t work for me. I ordered a half size up and they were way to big. While they are darling, they did feel stiff so probably wouldn’t have worked even if they fit.

  26. Hi I see that no new topics have been listed for a week. Is that odd??? Anyways I took on a consignment lot of 1400 items for a reseller that passed away. Her items were in pristine condition, stored, new with tags, all JCrew mainly from the 2011-2013 era. I talked to a JCrew VP about this today (happened to be on a flight with her and we recognized each other) and she said "oh those years were some of our best production years as far as the quality of products." I totally agree. Anyways, the funds from the proceeds are going to the estate, for her two daughters and her grand daughters education. I'll just post this once for anyone who wishes to see what the items are on ebay it is on user ID kp77777 just google that with ebay and JCrew and it will come up. This is a unique capsule lot I don't know if any of us will ever see anything like it again.

    2. They got me, too. I reordered 2 Jackie cardigans as they went down in price again. The new Liberty shirt is also reduced and the 60% off applied. 3. I know, some things were really inexpensive...hard to stay away. But some things, like white jeans from summer, were still $110.
pbanos, I didn't get the matching Camerons, I wanted the black/ivory but they were all sold out in tall sizes. From they reviews sounds like they run very very small anyway. I am curious about the shape of that blazer. Thought I'd try it with black pants/jeans/ivory cords and maybe fitted black skirt.

      Delete
    4. Well that's the thought I had about the blazer - the black is easier to match than the pink. I liked the pink, but decided it would be too hard to wear enough.

  28. Sale price had me put the officer patch pocket pants in khaki in my cart but I hate that color pant so stopping myself. Too bad because I kind of like those pants. The frankie pants are thinner.

  37. New arrivals are up and I’m so torn. While many of the styles seem to be vintage j crew inspired, the styling and fun is missing. I like a few of the liberty tops but are those really for fall? And I like the lace pants but previous versions never fit me right. However, they were too low rise and this version says high rise so maybe I’ll give them a whirl. All in all, I think I’ve lost that lovin feeling.

    1. I thought some of the shots looked more out together like the good old days, but really the only things I looked at in more detail were the chateau puffer in bright cerise and the tie neck lace top.
Ironically, I have the lace pants from two years ago in bright cerise but this is a deeper red lace, and the puffer in bright cerise...well I’d rather it be the deeper red of the lace, I’m not crazy about the bright cerise next to my face.
I have a huge Everlane order on the way and an upcoming vacation...so...

    2. I have only just started looking and my first though upon seeing three Liberty blouses was "is this for spring?" Also, another velvet tank? I do want the chartreuse puffer but worry about the waist, will have to try an XS Tall in that and would probably actually buy olive...or maybe Ill just finally buy the Orolay jacket on Amazon.

      Delete
    3. My problem with the Liberty shirts is there was a brief time when they offered a few tall liberty shirts. Not anymore. In addition to this, even the regular/classic shirts seem shorter. I assume because they expect you to buy the short shirt with high rise pants.

      Delete
    4. I'm sick of short shirts/tees/sweaters. The sweaters seem to be either cropped or super long jacket type things. Can we please get some regular length sweaters that are 100% merino or lambswool? Tired of seeing poly and acrylic mixed in with everything.

    5. What's with the chartreuse? It is positively neon yellow to me, which doesn't scream fall. The only yellow I like in fall/autumn is mustard/gold.

  39. I bought last year's Daphne in green on sale this year. I just started wearing it two weeks ago, but I agree with you, I'm really tempted by the other colors. The navy this year is better than last year's navy. I also like the chateau puffer in lilac.

  40. Random thought after looking at the new arrivals. I love the Gwen bow flats but why did they make it in a sling back style instead of a closed heel? Didn’t they learn anything about velvet tanks and matching pants in last year‘s velvet debacle? Some of those pieces are still on the clearance rack and now they have made more. The coats are pretty as always but I don’t need one as I can barely close the hall closet as is. I like the new wider leg cut on the lace pants but don’t need another party pant. The cropped teal and black zebra pant may work for me but I need to try on. I know it is polyester but sometimes it is nice to not have to iron. Skirt selection is lacking. I would love a pretty print pencil to wear with boots. I think the new striped rugby tippi is unique and the colors of brown and gold are different. The multi stripe cashmere sweater looks nice too but we have seen this design before. What I am missing is the special Jcrew sparkle we used to have in the past I am sure I will find something to like when I see it all in person but am I alone in thinking that it is all pretty basic?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I like the rugby sweater too but I assume there will be more skirts and other stuff released soon. The closed heel would make cold weather sense but short pants reigned for a long time so I'm not surprised. I think they plan what they will sell a year ahead, but with all the different designers they've imported and exported, who knows what's going on.

  42. Was pleasantly surprised by this roll out. Love the rugby stripe Tippi, feels very now with those beautiful yellow and brown stripes. Also ordered the pleated wide leg pleated pants in wool in sky blue. The reviews are quite mixed, seems to be love or hate, so we’ll see. Saw some nice jewelry too. And the coats are fab as always, but as I bought two coats last year and a duffle coat (eBay, superior quality) last month I’m not in the market for a new coat.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am liking the teal zebra print skirt, although I haven't tried the slip skirt yet so I'm not sure about fit and quality. The matching top is interesting but looks low cut to me. Agree there are some lovely coats! Wish it was cold enough here to need one.

  44. I received my 2008 J Crew Collection Duchamp Astor blazer from Jackie who sold it on ebay kp77777 (see her post above). Very quick shipping, and the jacket is in perfect condition. It fits me well, though the sleeves are a bit short. I considered taking them up to bracelet length, but then the flared shape would be lost. Thanks to Jackie, and I hope your items do well.

  45. Ok I ended up ordering the chateau parka in sea spray. This coat isn’t often included in a promo so I bit. I hope the color is just as beautiful in real life. Next time I have more pennies to spend I’ll get the navy daphne. It was hard to choose just one coat! Oh, and I’ll wait for reviews on the silk tie neck blouse - love the colors but afraid it’s too thin and will require a cami which defeats the purpose.

    1. Nice! The coats are really amazing. I have the chateau parka a bright red with a white window pane from a couple years ago and still love it. I'm debating another but can't decide between the colors just yet. I was kinda hoping for another plaid option...

    2. I’ve been shopping for coats on Poshmark. There’s a colour that looks like Bright Cerise to me, can anyone comment on the difference Bright Cerise vs Flame?

      Delete
    3. Hi shopgrrrl - I think that JC uses Bright Cerise, Flame/Vivid Flame, and Modern Red interchangeably. It's that orangey red that they use a lot (and seems to be all over their Fall collection). I think they use Poppy/Bright Poppy, Festival Red, and Belvedere Red for their more true, blue-based reds. It is really hard to photograph and on my computer, always looks like a true red so I have to go by the color names (and reviews).

A long time ago there was a quote from Jenna that said something like they only use red in their Holiday collection. *insert thinking emoji here*

    4. Thanks silver_lining! I’m good with Vivid Flame if it’s the same as Bright Cerise, but as you say, it’s hard to tell from monitor to monitor. I know it’s been discussed on JCA before, I just can’t find the thread. I definitely don’t want a true red.

  46. Got a few things to try in the flash sale and rebought a bathing suit in a lower price. I received the spicy jade Jackie today and the color is beautiful. Is it teal green? I don’t know how to describe it but it matches the primrose floral Liberty shirt that I also ordered but will need to exchange for a bigger size due to fat arms/broad shoulders. The color screams fall to me and is exactly a jewel tone I love for colder seasons.

  47. Anyone see or try the Vintage straight jean with velvet stripe?

I keep going back and forth with them. I don't know how much wear I'd get with them... Velvet stripe seems to limit it to the holiday season... But they also seem like they might be a fun casual alternative to holiday dressing.

    1. I purchased them and like them! The vintage straight cut fits my hourglass shape well. I wore them on a casual day to work with a white button up and leopard loafers. Got lots of compliments!

    2. Saw them yesterday at the store - very cute! They don't read strictly holiday to me; I'd wear them all fall/winter. Vintage straight is my favorite J Crew style for jeans.

    3. I normally wear a 29 and these worked in the 29. I maybe could have sized down but I liked the more relaxed fit!

  48. Decided to try the Roxie cap-toe ankle boots in metallic snake-embossed leather - it's a unique twist on the snake trend this fall and I like the mod style of this boot. Fingers crossed they work.

    2. I have that boot in the red patent and wore them today. The fit is TTS on me, and I have a fairly high-volume foot. I wore regular thickness trouser socks and found them comfortable. The back zip is hard to do, it helps if you hold the sides together with one hand while you pull the zip with the other. You want to be sitting while you do these gymnastics.

    2. Thanks for this! Makes it soooooo tempting to order a Lady Day coat. I’ve been trying to get a used one for years, and this actually makes a new one cheaper than most of the listings on eBay and Poshmark, with the option of returning it if the fit isn’t good. Nervous that there are no reviews for the New Lady Day coat — is the cut or sizing very different from the old version? The Dark Amber is calling to me…..

  52. Stopped into my store last night to exchange an Ella sweater coat (the camel is huge - size down 2-3 sizes). I perused of course and let me tell you the daphne tweed coats are absolutely stunning! I think I’m going to pick up the guava this week with the extra discount. I can see this coat casually with jeans and booties but also for work over black and cream outfits. In love! I loved the navy too and will wait a bit to get that one. How many is too many coats?

  53. Boy oh boy, it’s been a long time since this blog has updated and I wonder if it’s fading out...
I miss conversing with everyone about clothes.

Anyway I wanted to give an Everlane update. I ordered a bunch of clothes, some from the updated choose what you pay section and others full price.
    Some keepers.
Black carpenter pants. I already have these in the bone which I force myself to wear. I love the style but admit the bone is trickier for me to wear since I am mostly in black. The black are awesome. Amazing fit. All cotton and sturdy. Well worth the $68. Jcrew straight legs don’t work on me, they’re too tight until they hit my knee. These are more of a true straight leg.
Cashmere Mockneck. This was released last year and I really wanted it. It’s rubbed and has a slightly longer length but it’s less boxy than typical Everlane sweaters. Full price is 155. Some colors are on sale for 93. The cut is flattering. I prefer the size small even though it’s a little oversized. It’s very soft and not itchy and my skin has gotten very sensitive.
Renew fleece zip up. Full price is 70. Ive searched and searched for a fleece with zip pockets big enough for my phone, drawstring/adjustable bottom, and sleeves long enough for my arms, this is as close as I’ve gotten to perfect. The straight bottom of the JCREW Polartec does nothing for me. This looks so much more flattering and it’s lightweight but warm. I will literally wear it everyday to yoga and in the house. Well worth the price considering how much athleisure and outdoor brands cost.
Linen pants with elastic waist. I had to go a size up due to availability so they’re a little loose but I think they’re ok for a really comfy pair of loungey pants.

    Some returns:
lightweight full length wide leg pants with button front. These fit great but are a bit short to be full length. Supposedly 33” inseam.
Wide leg crop cargo pant. I want to love these and might regret the return because they’re on sale, but my two other black wide leg crops from Everlane without side pockets fit a little more elegantly down the leg. The extra pockets would really make these functional but I think I have to let them go.
Go weave wrap dress with sleeves. I feel like this just hangs. I also ordered the sleeveless and waiting for that.
Modern utility shirtdress in black. I like it but separates are probably better for me.

    1. I looked at that cashmere mockneck & I like it too. But no more sweaters for me until I wear the ones I bought late in the Spring.

I've developed a liking for slightly too short full length pants, but only worn with booties. Maybe because I'm an awkward inseam where regular is too short and tall is too long.
Fortunately that means they work as full length with loafers or sneakers. I think I dislike dragging hems more than slight highwaters...

You are my black pants authority, but I still do not have wide leg black pants. I keep looking at the Everlane ones but think I want something less casual for work.

    2. Concerning the everlane renew fleece zip up... How did you find the sizing? I just ordered the half zip version and I'm usually in the XS/S range and I went with the XS because the measurements seemed so big.

      Delete
    3. PBanos they’re too long for that. They hit the top of my sneakers in a weird way. The cropped ones work better with the booties first me, but you’re a little taller. I do think the cotton wide legs from Everlane are fairly casual. I was getting sick of only having poly ones so I like the cotton. The lightweight ones don’t have the pockets and can look a little dressier. The thicker original ones are a heavier weight and have the front slash and back pockets. I’ve worn them with block heels and they’re fine. I like them with cotton button downs and sweaters too. I see a lot of people dressing them up but you may find it more casual for work because of the back pockets.

MissJR I ordered the small and I’m usually XS/S. I wanted a little room to layer and wanted the sleeves long enough. My arms are fairly long, as is my torso. If you’re less limb-y the XS might be fine.

      Delete
    4. thanks Suz Has... hopefully the XS works for me. not worried about the return/exchange stuff since everlane is pretty quick with that stuff... i just don't want to wait more!

      Delete
    5. MissJR I’m wearing it today. It’s mid 50s and the air is damp. I’m just wearing a tank underneath and although I would put on another layer if I was outside for any amount of time, I walked a few blocks without feeling freezing. I hope it works for you.

    6. Oh, the linen pants on sale for 39 are great. Nice weight, great pockets, unfortunately the 2 is just way too big for me. This is another one I think is well worth the price. If they have your size. These are a great alternative to shorts.

  54. 50% off sale today and I’m feeling whiplash from these promos. Just had to reorder a few things I got on Friday, because theskimm code makes today’s prices even better. Picked up a few popbacks to try and the violet cashmere sweater because I desperately want something as close to brilliant purple as possible. Nothing showed up as FS. Curious if the popbacks ship. I’ve been going to JC every weekend for the past month just returning stuff I rebuy are lower prices due to the no-PA rule. Thank goodness I live in NYC otherwise I wouldn’t bother shopping JC at all.

    2. The CAD pricing is so out of whack now I’m not sure I’ll ever order again. Last week the yellow gingham penny sandals were marked dow to $24 USD after discount, meanwhile $100+ CAD after discount. I don’t mind fair exchange rates and taxes, etc., but discrepancies like this have been happening too often lately.

  58. I received the Leopard faux-fur coat that I bought during some magic sale combination for $85. I ordered a small and a medium (I am usually a 6 in coats). I tried the medium first and though the body fit over a sweater, the arms were too short. I didn't even try the small. It's a cute coat, but I'd never be comfortable with my wrists hanging out. So a return when I thought I'd love it. My husband agreed it isn't a keeper fit on me.

I also received the Legacy blazer J6134 which I did not expect to love based on reviews. I ordered in a 6. It fits me perfectly, plenty of room for my muscular shoulders, the arms are the proper length and the body is nicely tailored for a woman. It's not a 'boyfriend' fit at all, very classic. I already have a nice navy schoolboy that is very similar, but this jacket is so nice that I think I'm keeping it since it was under $50. It's a lighter weight 3 season wool. I like the patch pockets, sort of a menswear appropriation. Surprised by the negative reviews, but think this is a case when my large wide shoulders and long arms make different fit than most women. My husband really liked it too, and voted to keep it.

    1. Oh that’s too bad about the leopard coat.

I realized yesterday after seriously considering a boyfriend style blazer (from a Everlane) that with my athletic upper body and size it probably won’t work for me, just screw up my proportions. I love the look though, but may have to make do with my hip length blazers instead. You can never go wrong with a well fitting blazer. I find the pocket detail can really change the look.

  59. Ordered the new Gwen slingback bow flats in hot pink (neon berry) during the 40% sale last week and received today. Man, 5+ stars are owed on the color but the quality of these shoes is horrendous. The seaming is frayed, the satin is pulled and stretched in areas where there’s pleating, and the area where the outsole is collected to the upper is uneven and wobbly. The pair I received also has some weird black spot stains, including one noticeable one on the toe. Despite my reservations on overall quality (I spent 8 years in footwear merchandising and fabrication so I’ll admit I’m a bit picky) I’m going to request another pair from CS for comparative purposes. They do fit TTS and seem pretty comfortable! And fwiw, I’d post a review direct to the site but it seems that functionality has gone by way of the wish list :/

  60. Some recent fails:
the houndstooth peplum back blazer (in black/ivory) was no good on me. The lapel peaks were to pointy, and that combined with the houndstooth material made me look like Herb Tarlek from WRKP in Cincinnati. Material wasn't nice and the one I received had a big snag - almost a rip - on one arm so I marked my return as "defective" and explained on the return form so fingers crossed they credit me the $7.50.
I ordered 2 of the button detail crewneck sweater in supersoft yarn (against my better judgement). Liked the shorter length and the colors, serious reservations about the fabric. Wore one of them Saturday on a day trip with my family and after ONE day out it looked stretched out and pilly. Immediately sent the other unused one back. I really should have know better :(

One win was the structured boatneck t shirt in stripe (I bought the green/ivory). Fit TTS and nice material, like the shorter length since I have so many high waisted jeans and skirts.

ALSO: I have a $15 Boden voucher I'm not going to use. The code is WXN66W41H4LP and it says to put it in the "apply gift card" box at checkout. Please post here if you use it.

    2. That supersoft yarn is a nightmare. Even on the rack it starts to pill. Too bad. There’s also the marled sweater with the shoulder buttons and the color combos are pretty. I saw the berry (ish) one on the sale rack but it was fairly scratchy and looked like it would pull, pill and stretch so I didn’t give it more than a passing glance.

  65. Good morning JCAs, I am wondering about the quality of Madewell cashmere. I have my eye on a dress, and can't help but think that if it were made by the JCrew of yore, it would be $298+, so I am a bit wary. Is it comparable to the new Everyday JCrew cashmere (which I have to admit I bought once and never again, because pilling). I appreciate any guidance!

    1. I tried the madewell puff sleeve cashmere sweater this year, and the cashmere itself was soft and much thicker than J crew everyday. I didn't end up keeping the sweater because the style was not flattering, but the cashmere was of nicer quality than JCrew is now. Since I didn't keep I can't comment on pilling, but it was a soft and thicker cashmere and I would consider ordering a different style.

  66. Is cashmere supposed to pill? I bought some Lion Brand cashmere yarn to knit a wrap and find that the yarn keeps viving off fiber. Not exactly pulling, but definitely yarn loss.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Replies
    1. Pilling is caused by short fibers separating from the yarn and getting tangled up. The best fabrics have longer fibers (silk, linen) and pill less. Cheaper wools have shorter fibers. Blends have a second issue when the synthetic fiber is stronger than the wool and the wool breaks and wraps around the synthetic. When you wash a garments with loose fibers with other garments anything that sheds from them gets wrapped up in the loose fibers and makes those multi color pills.
