Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Collection lady jacket in English tweed, not final sale, and the 60% off was still working...it is bright blue with lavender and turquoise and gold buttons. Well, we shall see! If I love it, I'm out $70. If not, someone else will get a chance.

    4. @p banos, Great!!! Happy to hear you got it. I just love love love mine. It’s a show stopper trust me. If it passed the Palm Beach crowd mentality it’s a winner overall:) not that I care. Great with blue shoes!

    5. @Lynn - thanks for the encouragement. Sure hope I don't get a 'pre-worn' popback. I sure don't live in Palm Beach, I'm in NJ. But I will wear show stoppers! I thought it would look great with white jeans in the Spring. Don't have bright blue shoes (and NOT shopping for them, I'm over my limit). Do have purple suede pumps that might go well.

  2. Nope. No visit for me.
    Must. Reduce. Shopping.

But as mentioned in previous post: I'm selling the JCrew Navy Tweed postage stamp skirt I bought off poshmark. NWT size 4. I'll provide pics if anyone's interested. Will re post in the correct thread next week.

I'm also going to go thru my closet and start getting rid of stuff. Really being honest about what I wear and just what I'm attached to. So I might post other goodies for sale. I have a bunch of shoes (nisolo, JCrew) I've only worn once or twice that are definitely going.

    1. I did the same, I have so much stuff I don't wear. What I have most of, jeans and black sweaters, I wear most. I don't even mind having lots of those because my favorites change, jeans are very fickle! Shoes and coats make the outfit...but I realized I bought a lot of shoes that I haven't worn.
I was checking out Audrey A La Mode yesterday to try and see how I can be a little more minimal, it only made me feel worse.

      Delete
    2. I mean, I actually like her style a lot but it seems like she has two pairs of jeans. I have about 20 and I go through phases with them. If I wanted to get rid of some I could and there are a few I haven't worn, but I don't think I could be that minimal to only have two pairs of jeans. Sometimes I buy the same in two sizes. 😂

      Delete
    3. @Suz Has I couldn’t do that either! Minimalism isn’t for everybody LOL! There was a big sale update shorty after promo changed, so ordered and able to apply 60% off. Ordered beaded bird earrings that were cancelled in a previous order, so hope they ship. Used rewards to order SZ Blockprint Kurta Tunic for February trip to South Africa and strappy knit midi dress in stripe.

    4. Thanks Tara, maybe I need to realize just because I like a specific "uniform" doesn't mean I need only two of each. I definitely have an edited wardrobe and I don't need it to make me feel badly. 😂

    5. We are all doing the best we can. Some would think two dresser drawers jammed with jeans is too many (and that's just the winter options), but I am happy with that and it's progress to not have another plastic bin stuffed to capacity under the bed. The amount I have been donating is very satisfying. Just last night I packed up another smaller bag.

I'm definitely not a minimalist, and I don't care to be. Love my accessories and shoes! Options change the entire "base"!

      Delete
    6. As long as I am not a hoarder I don't care to be a minimalist. By hoarder I mean keeping stuff that you will never wear, that is worn out, that does not fit. I will admit to having a lot of jeans too: lets see, dark wash flares, skinny, medium wash straight, skinny, flares, wide leg crop, white straight, skinny , flares, ecru skinny, flares, black straight , skinny, flares, pink straight, blue flares. Ugh, that is 16 different combinations, and I do have duplicates of 4 pairs. Making 20. But the average price is probably under $20 per pair, since I only buy jeans on clearance or Poshmark/Ebay. So if I bought full price $100 jeans, I'd only have 4 pairs. I do promise not to buy jeans for the next hundred years.

  3. @p banos, I think the purple suede would work. Going into my closet shortly to see what shades of purple I have that would work.Threading in the jacket is lavender. Great suggestion! I hope your jacket arrives in excellent condition; keeping fingers crossed for you. You would be a show stopper where ever you live:)

    1. Awwwwww. I wear those purple pumps with a periwinkle blue dress, so I hope they will work. They seem to work with anything blue, from navy to periwinkle or with fuschia. I actually bought a second pair to have in reserve when the first looks shabby, because I wear them so often.

    2. I also think gold would work. I hope you love it P!

  4. No visit and hopefully no orders this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised that my tweed cap sleeve dresses shipped already (with the free shipping option). Seems to be no rhyme or reason with shipping if some people are still waiting for end of December orders to ship. I have to wonder if they're waiting for stores to fulfill orders but that's certainly not an excuse.

While I did purchase quite a few items, I too am continuing to clean my closet out and sell/donate items. I feel like it's a vicious cycle - if only I can get better at realizing what items I'll wear constantly and which ones are one and done (and can likely live without).

  6. Some reviews.
I received my ruffle pocket blazer in glen plaid, the size 2 which is my smaller size. The blazer JUST fits my shoulders so the 4 will be better. I have to say, there is blue in the pattern that's not visible online, it's a four season lightweight wool. 98%. I like the fit otherwise. I dislike the pockets. Before I return it I will try it with different clothes size I tried it over leggings, but I think the pocket flap can be tucked in. I don't have any other double breasted blazers like this and I like how it's nipped in at the waist, hopefully I dont lose that by sizing up. Also it was shipped with the security tag...lol.

Madewell: stretch velvet huston pull-on crop pant and balloon sleeve sweatshirt in the dark metal color. I thought it would be cute for lounging around but it's horrible. The sweatshirt is actually freezing inside so not really ideal for winter lounging, although I would at least wear a tank under it, but the fit is not good. The pants aren't terrible but nothing I'd leave the house in. Hopefully my J.crew velour sweats are better.

The winner in all this, the Sophia fold down flats from Madewell. I've wanted these for a long time but didn't want to get them on final sale in case the fit was off. My typical 8.5 just fits but the leather is soft and will give. The higher vamp looks nice, reminds me of the everlane flats but with a less flat sole. (Kind of if the everlane glove flat and the Jcrew Kiki had a baby). Also, they are cushioned which is such a plus with ballet flats. For sure I'd buy these in red and pale pink if they ever became available. I don't think I loved any of the colors I've seen otherwise, although I've been tempted by the gold velvet too. The black leather are perfect. These are classic, the kind of shoes you'd even buy a back up for.

I'm actually thrilled to be returning so much! 😂

    1. That stinks about the blue line, and the security tag! Hope the larger size works for you. Isn't it great when you want to return some of the stuff and it's such an easy decision?

I have always wanted the Sophia flats and am very happy to read your review especially about the padding. Although I wear flats daily to work, it seems like I don't allow myself to buy black...probably since I am always buying things like brocade mules or plaid smoking slippers with a wreath embroidered on them.

      Delete
    2. It's funny you say that because I tend to view shoes as more of the statement when the majority of my clothes are black. Well, at first glance I thought the plain black CAPTOE boots were a little boring in comparison to the other boots I got, but sometimes a simple black boot is perfect. That's how I feel about a plain black flat too.

WRT the blazer, the blue is fairly subtle and since I intend to wear them with jeans or all black it doesn't bother me at all. It's just not at all evident even when I blew up the picture online.

      Delete
    3. I bought the black plain captoe boot for work! And I do have plenty of black flats (suede with gold, pointy with silver, patent loafer, fur loafer mule, chanel flats, etc) but enough that I'm not seeking out MORE.

Funny enough but I bought houndstooth BR Ryan pants a few months back, and when I opened the package BOY was I surprised to see a faint green stripe in there! Maybe it's a thing. I walked past the blazer in the store enough times and never noticed either.

      Delete
    4. I bought those Sophia flats a couple months ago and they are the most comfortable shoes I own! I wear them all the time and I wish I had a back up pair. I found them true to size to a little big. Also, speaking of Madewell they are still offering an additional 40% off sale in-store (vs 20% off online). They have a lot in the sale section right now!

      Delete
    5. @Suz Has, Blue, huh? I wear a lot of blue. Maybe I need to give that blazer a second look. I wish J.Crew would include a closeup photo of the fabric, especially when there’s a pattern or texture to it. I’ve purchased several items that looked kind of boring online but were absolutely beautiful IRL. The meadow green tweed Parke blazer in English wool, for instance, has tiny flecks of color in the tweed that I absolutely love. It’s not obvious in the online photos, but Kristy Mayn and a few others posted reviews that showed the beautiful flecks of color.

      Delete
    6. Jeanne, yes, but the blue is very subtle...I have tried blowing up the pattern and it's still not visible on my iPad.I believe the main colors are black and white or very pale gray. It's called gray glen plaid or something like that. I tried over all black and it looked good. I may have mentioned above the cut of the blazer is very flattering since it nips in at the waist. If the four works I'll deal with the pockets because I have nothing else like this and really liked it.
I saw that green blazer in person and also was surprised by all the colors. It looked really pretty.

  7. Bought a ton of crewcuts with the low sale prices. A couple things I hadn't seen, but also items I was searching for. Not much for myself, except a great score: the black suede over-the-knee boots I ordered last week for $150 were somehow $60. Instead of a Hail Mary for a PA, I ordered them at this price, since they were my size. Probably not very smart shopping. But I am thinking I can see which pair looks and fits best at the least.

Final Sale double faced cashmere top arrived with a discoloration on the front and quality nowhere near the old one I have. CS said they don't accept FS returns but would make an exception this once. I get FS, but I really think that shouldn't include damaged or defective items. I shouldn't feel I'm being done a favor when I was sent something defective for my $.

    1. Hi, Sarah J

I'm really surprised CS gave you a bit of a hard time and said that they would make an "exception". I've gotten a couple of defective/damaged items on final sale before, and when I called there was no question that the final sale would be waived. If you get something else that's damaged, in the future I would ignore the "exception" talk and give them a call.

    2. @Toronto Modern, thank you. I was just emailed a return shipping label, for $7.50 at my expense. Not happy about that. I will probably just take it to a b&m.

      Delete
    3. That is just awful. When I received a damaged item once, they price matched $14.99 on any other tippi I wanted and sent a prepaid label. I’d raise hell if expected to pay a thing!

      Delete
    4. @Sarah J - I’d be irate! Like Cheritheberry, J.Crew cs price matched a full priced color to the discounted price I paid for the defective sale item. The replacement was shipped overnight for free, too. I thought that was an exceptional response, but at minimum I’d expect a prepaid label and a respectful apology.

  8. I am both irked and relieved - while they have the extra 50% off sale item BIGGERSALE code running in the US, there is nothing extra off in Canada. So no temptation to order (thank goodness) since I feel I am being treated unfairly :-)

  9. Returned my items already.

As mentioned above, Madewell is 40% off sale in store, but nothing caught my eye aside from a glitter pouch, the last thing I need. I did see the red and black Buffalo check tie neck blouse and it looks so short, I am glad I didn't get it. Saved myself a return.

At J.crew I tried on a few items I was eyeing.
Red and black plaid pants, the high waisted, pleated ones. They only had a 00 in store and these just fit. I prob have a few holiday lbs on me. They were flattering. Mostly poly. The weight is very light, almost more like summery pants. The plaid is kind of loud in a way. I think they'd look cute with a white tee and sneakers, but they're not lux to me at all.
The red plaid Cameron pants. I tried these last year and hated the fit but decided to,try again, even though I know they're too loud with the matching Parke blazer in tartan. I don't understand the fit of these pants, they don't work for me at all. The just 0 fit but they're so unflattering. Sizing up wouldn't help. They're too tight in the legs.

The black pants with satin tux stripe. The 0 just fit. I think for a better fit I'd probably need to size up and have them taken in but they weren't a love. (Since I ordered these already they're most likely going back). They're a great pant to keep in the closet for any occasion, very light weight wool. I don't remember fabric content.

Two holiday shoes, the plaid flats with the black bow and the block heel plaid pumps with ankle strap. Both seem to run a little small. The flats were a very tight 8.5 and the heels were a not so loose 9.5. The flats looked more like wool, the pumps were a thinner fabric. The pumps seemed to have a dark navy background, not black, and not much green as the color name might suggest.

  11. Received some of my 60% off items:

Ponte wide-leg crop with patch pockets navy, small. Love the fabric and fit enough to overlook the cropped length. Navy will work for Spring and Fall for me. A little large, but I had tried XS and found it pulled at the crotch. Keeper.

The Reeds X J.Crew featherweight mockneck sweater item: K3544, small - I do not get the negative reviews on this top, unless you ignored the "featherweight" and were expecting a thick sweater. The pattern is special, the neckline flattering. I would have liked an extra 1/2 inch on the sleeves, but that's my fault for weightlifting and making wide shoulders. Keeper, which is good as it was Final Sale.

Velvet mockneck tank top, J7852, SMALL, PALE ROSE : The fit is good, I do not find the armholes large (in this case, benefit of weightlifting). But the color is not pink as I expected, much more beigey. I will either make my peace with the color or give to a friend. It would work with the navy crop pants, I guess.
I have one coming in burgundy which I should like at lot more.

Tallwide-leg cropped pant in corduroy K1109 TALL 4 MELTED CARAMEL:
I sized up per the 'true fit'. They are a bit loose and totally perfect. Favorite pants of the season. Glad I ordered the blazer in the same color. Hubs 100% approved.

Full-length wide-leg chino pant J7331 2 UNION BLUE: Ok, but the color not bright as I expected and they are a bit short. I will let Hubs decide, but likely a return. The waist and hips do fit perfectly.

Slim brushed midweight flannel shirt in buffalo plaid K4008 LARGE|LUMBERJACK RED: For the Mr. He has a nearly identical shirt from Banana, but it is starting to fade a bit. This will be the on-deck replacement next year. At $4.80! Amazed it is here already from the crazy men's sale.

So sad to hear my local store is closing...but we do have two others that are less convenient but the Mr. does pass them in his travels. As for shopping, I doubt I will make trips unless I really want to try something on.

Orders placed before Christmas still have not arrived but are finally in Canada, slowly, slowly, slowly crawling their way to me. I'm giving up. It's no use even if I could find something to order by the time it arrived it'll be out of season or out of style.

I know I’m being greedy since there are 3 other stores that are all within a 30 minute driving radius and many others here have none. 16. I just got such an amazing deal that I'm not sure whether to be proud or ashamed of myself. I got an e-mail that a local B&M is closing and offering the 50%+20% off for full-price and 60%/20% off sale deal, and took a bag of returns with me when I went to check it out. The only thing in stock that came home with me was the wide-leg trouser jean in black ($28).

But one of the items I took in to return was the collection leather motorcycle jacket, which had popped back in my size in the olive color just after Christmas, and which I ordered just so I could try it on, decide it wasn't for me, and stop obsessing over it. Of course, it ended up being amazing, and I really wanted to keep it, but couldn't justify the $600 price tag. So as the SA was ringing up my jeans, I asked casually whether they were immediately restocking on the floor any merchandise that that was returned at that location. He told me they were, and I explained I really wanted to keep the item I was returning but just couldn't fit it into my budget. Without batting an eyelash, he offered to do a 50%+20% price adjustment on the jacket. And then, before finalizing the sale, he offered to apply my reward points (which I hadn't even asked about). Final price after all of these adjustments was $180. I just about keeled over, and he said, "Hey, score!"

So I guess the moral of the story is--if your B&M is closing, the SAs might be willing to go above and beyond for you in situations like this, because what have they got to lose?

I tried the 4 on today, and do not think it runs small at all. I think I am a 6, but apparently not anymore, since the other top I bought is also a 4. I have a couple of funnels (chambray, black eyelet, red/white stripe) in 4Tall. The 4 fit fine, but a little short in the front. The buttons are amazing, it is the perfect holiday top.

    8. Holy cow, it’s silk??!!?? My mind is blown. What size did you get? I have a similar popover plaid for crew 5 years ago I have loved and worn to death, too. I’m going to try this one totally buttoned, and I think the silk will help that.
This morning I grabbed the original black velvet going out blazer for <$40. A 4 popped back and since it’s supposed to run small figured I’d give it a whirl. Not final sale.

    9. I just read the description, I bought k7836 and it’s cotton.

    10. Weird!!! This is the tall one. I ordered tall 4. Body length: 25 1/2".
The classic cotton shirt gets a modern update, thanks to a pretty funnelneck, jeweled buttons on the collar and a dramatic shirttail hem.
Silk. Chest pocket. Dry clean. Import. Online only. Item K3878.

I should have realized it was written by the copywriter from space when I couldn't find the chest pocket either!!!

    11. Oh my goodness. It’s literally as simple as copy and paste, but change the length!

  19. Watched Marie Kondo last night to inspire my ongoing closet audit. 90% of my wardrobe is J Crew and much of the “old school Crew” in my closet really does spark joy.

I’ll never be a minimalist when it comes to clothes. However, I hate waste and poor quality garments. I hate wearing a garment a couple of times and having it fall apart or not survive laundering. I don’t want that crap in my closet or in the landfills and unfortunately, far too much of what J Crew is churning out now falls into that category. I did well last year with a “fewer, better” strategy so I’m going to continue to look for the few gems at J Crew.

    1. Good for you, ruffles!

I find repeated listening helpful as well. I even treat my clothes better after listening to Marie Kondo. The last few years I have also done better at buying only what I'll use and really like. The question of "do you like yourself for having it?" seems to have stuck in a very helpful way.

      Delete
    2. @ruffles @Sarah J - I’m a big fan of Marie Kondo, too, although I initially (years ago) found her a bit annoying. I especially like her “filing” folding method. And I love that “do you like yourself for having it?” question! I’ve never heard it before, but I’ll definitely use it.

I’m also not likely to become a minimalist. I briefly dabbled in it and it wasn’t a good feeling: I moved cross-country, northeast to south, in late 2015. I packed up most of my belongings, including clothes, in mid-November and sent them to a warehouse with the movers. I only kept a small suitcase of clothes and a few household items in the trunk of my car, then drove for several days, plus made some stops along the way to visit relatives and sightsee. By the time I reached my destination, and the movers arrived with my belongings a few days later, I’d been wearing those same damn clothes for over 3 weeks. My one single sweater/jacket had been shredded by my cat, bored by the long car ride, and I’d somehow managed to mangle one of the my two pairs of shoes. I had to stop at TJ Maxx to buy another sweater because I was freezing and miserable. Nope, minimalism is not for me. I need some choices.

    3. I'm watching it now, I think some of it is hokey, I don't like the idea of taking every single garment out...I prefer organizing by type. Overall though I like the like with like concept and she's not a minimalist, she just helps you store what you love more efficiently.

      Delete
    4. While I’m unlikely to do it myself, I think her clothes pile is a fabulous idea. It’s hard to remain in denial about how many clothes you have when there’s a 6 foot tall mountain of clothes in front of you that you have to sort.

      Delete
    5. I agree but do it in smaller doses, like today I dumped out all of my nightgowns (from my bridal shower 25 years ago, I think it's time to thank them and let them go) and my long sleeve tshirts. I did it with socks recently too.

      Delete
    6. When I recently moved, I dumped out all my socks and underwear and let them go. I then proceeded to order all of the socks (gold toe) and thongs I prefer and filled the drawers right back up, but at least I feel better about what's in there.

    7. Cher, I'm desperate for socks that don't slide down in ankle boots. I otherwise don't wear socks often. Aside from my yoga socks. (I have tall socks from when I used to wear knee high boots all the time but don't really wear them anymore, but don't like them under ankle boots. Have you found any that work???

      Delete
    8. I usually wear gold toe and haven't noticed a problem. I only bought them to go with my captoe boots. They have a scalloped edge at the top and came in a 6 pack. I don't like a thin silky dress sock, I prefer a thin(ish) flat cotton. Coincidentally, I am wearing the boots today with a brand new Hue holiday sock I bought for $1.60 at Lord and Taylor, so I'll report back!

      Delete
    9. Regular women's gold toe? Like a six pack from Costco type of thing? (I think I've bought for my husband but not myself). Agreed, I don't like the thin silky socks either. I have some thicker ones which was my old preference but they don't stay up and make my feet sweat lately. Lol

      Delete
    10. I had ordered them as a filler item from macys.com and just checked my order history. Although they are OOS now, it was a 4-pack of women's damask crew socks. "A quartet of scalloped-edge Gold Toe socks includes two solid pairs and two classic damask pairs.
      Pack includes: 4 pairs
      Nylon/cotton/polyester/spandex"
I buy the old school white thick ones for around the house in winter, and the short ones for around the house when I'm not freezing or to wear with sneakers where they won't show. I feel like the brand stays nicer longer IDK. And they do not make my feet sweat!

  22. I have done well with thoughtful purchasing in 2018. This morning I purchased the Lurex Tartan Sheath dress. I already ordered and returned it once. I needed a size up but then really couldn't justify the price for wearing it once or twice a year. Now that it was marked down and again and was $35 I can justify it. Also have the Poppy silk blouse coming to me and the signature plaid pj's. Other than that some sweaters for the husband with that super sale the other day. Hoping to continue the thoughtful purchasing in 2019 but with what they are churning out it hasn't been that hard.

  23. I went to my Chester NJ store. I had returns and knew I'd get sucked in by the 60% + 20% (sale) or the 50% + 20% (full).

I came home with the Classic-fit boy shirt in silk poppy print. The marked price was $95, but they looked up and matched the sale price of $40. So $40*.4*.8 = $12.80 Ummmmm, yes I had no choice. It runs big, as I have a size 4 and that is loose. I wasn't even going to try it on because I think I am a 6, glad I did.

I also came home with my 21st pair of jeans, despite my promise not to buy jeans for 100 years. Now I have to wait 105 years.
They are Wide-leg trouser jean in light Lagoon K5200. The wash is light, but not distressed, the bottom hem is attractive, and the high waist fits me well. They run really big, because I got the 25, and they are not at all tight. I would never have even tried a 25, but they had a 27 which I tried first. They were too big, so I went to look for a 26, which they did not have. I tried the 25's just in case - and that is the right size. In this case the store price was better than the Web, $89 not $99. So $89*.4*.8 = $28.50 just over my jeans target price of $20.00

Together this is a totally 70's look. As I was an adolescent and teenager in the 70's I am happy with that!
And finally, a full price pair Women's New Balance® for J.Crew 520 sneakers in gold/salt. The colorway is so nice, they are not flashy like my full on gold pair. These will be gym sneakers for me. I took a 10, my usual shoe size (I have New Balance in 9.5 to 10.5) These ran at 85*.5*.8 = $34. Naughty, but I came home and got rid of three pair of shabby sneakers to make room.

Net of my returns, I only paid $14, so not too much damage.

    1. So any of you who can go to Chester, you might want to try today. Things were moving out quickly. They mostly have casual clothes. A big supply of the New Balance and Gola sneakers.

    2. Oh wow, my daughter took my car and I'm not taking her 2001 Subaru to Chester...lol. Maybe I can try later. I don't think I've ever been to that store.

What did you think of the Gole sneakers? Did they have the wide leg jeans in a 24?

      Delete
    3. Call and they will hold them for you. I don't recall a 24, but it is worth checking

The Gola's are canvas tennis-style, and I liked them. If I did not already have lots of 'fashion' sneakers I would have looked seriously. They would be $26.

It is on Rt 206 just south of the intersection with Old Rt. 24. You can take 78 to 206 north or go through Morristown and Mendham and out old Rt 24 (slower) assuming you live to the East.

    4. They have the poppy blouse in 0 and 00 I think.

    6. Just my 2 cents on the Golas. Too stand-out-ish for me. They were really chunky. I'm not a sneaker-wearer anymore, though, and I prefer something sleeker. I was just really surprised when I opened the box to see how much was there.

    9. I think I'd be nuts to go. It's almost 40 min from me. 😂 just to buy a pair of jeans I don't need. I'm insane.

    10. Yes, unless you really are desperate for a cool pair of 70's flares, it's nuts. I am scolding myself, but I will wear these jeans for sure.

They also have the (full price) dark trouser jeans, but I did not look closer at them.

    11. I mean I like them but I'm not desperate for them. I think my DIY drop hem works well. I do like the full length but not sure it's worth it for the time it would take.

  33. I’ve cleaned up these past two weeks between the 50%/60% sales and the price adjustments, but should I feel guilty for taking advantage of their overly-accommodating CS?

I just added it up: this post-holiday season I have purchased 22 items for my daughter and me, and I haven’t even spent $300. Those 22 items have come in 14 separate packages—hey, it’s free shipping with my account—and there is nothing worse than “losing” a pop-back from the virtual shopping cart while perusing other freshly-added sale items.

My most expensive purchase this season was a black velvet Ludlow tuxedo pants and jacket that came to $129 after the 60% off coupon. Sorting through the pop-backs this morning, I saw that the aforementioned jacket was available in a ridiculously small 36r (I am 6’1 with a barrel chest) and a pair of pants with a 28” waist; both were marked down to less than half what I paid, so I got right on the phone to CS, and with the 50% sale on top of it, the $129 was adjusted down to $38.

That’s a black velvet Ludlow tuxedo pants & jacket for $38. Free shipping.

Even as a consumer, I have to admit that their PA policy is so ridiculously lenient—there is no way they should honor a PA on merchandise that is sold out in my particular size. The price of the jacket actually happened to be bumped up by a few dollars while I was on the phone with CS, but I didn’t have the nerve to haggle further on a $38 suit.

The fact is that these 14 packages likely cost J.Crew @$100 in shipping, so the $290 I have paid for the 22 items becomes $190 in sales for the company.

If J.Crew goes out of business, you can all blame me.

    1. Focus on factory?! What? NOOOOOO!!!!

Well then, if it all turns to factory, then I'm totally out. No thank you.

    2. Factory has really deteriorated and has been for a long time so I'm wondering what their vision for its future would be and how that would interplay w/ the main line. Worried.

      Delete
    3. Perhaps their research is telling them that millennials don't spend $$ on clothes, and that they need to have low cost. I'm guessing it will be an uphill battle trying to attract a customer that was never very interested in J.Crew in the first place, while further alienating their core customer base. I've found one thing at Factory in the past few years. One. Nothing else has appealed. I bought a J.Crew skirt on eBay that was really disappointing- seller didn't disclose that it was Factory, and it was a very poor replication of the J.Crew skirt I was replacing. I'm not interested in that direction. I would have no reason to work so hard at shopping with J.Crew if there won't be any gems to be found. Panicked comment complete.

    4. I second that, Sarah. I have never purchased a thing from factory. I don’t even look at the site or go into the store.

    5. I’ve never purchased from J.Crew Factory either. I have a Factory Bella jacket I purchased on Ebay, but nothing new.

      Delete
    6. Will J Crew retail and Madewell consolidate in some way, long term? I wonder. Factory has price and quality that compete with the fast fashion places that have taken a sizable share of the market, so that makes sense in some ways.

      Delete
    7. I have some old factory schoolboy blazers that are nicer than current retail. I had a plaid suit I sold that was beautiful, schoolboy and skimmer pants...then the following year the quality went down significantly. I hadn't bought anything from factory until this years shorts which are comparable to retail, but it's a mixed bag. Since I don't have a Factory/Mercantile store nearby it's not a risk I like to take.

      Delete
    8. I'd probably check out Factory more often if there was a store nearby, but here in Toronto, the closest one is in Vaughn, and I'm not paying extra to travel there. And I don't really like to order online much because I'd like to try things on first.
