Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Crew this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. As a lesson to NEVER buy final sale, I received a popback of the Jaspe pullover I ordered NYE that was CLEARLY used (of course it was, it's from 2012, but I thought maybe it would be a hidden gem!), so I dashed off an e-mail to customer service because I had better be able to get a refund for an unwearable item that never should have been sold. I am waiting for a store trip until I get the go ahead to return it, so no visit for me this weekend.

Online, I resisted buying the velour hooded sweatshirt (though may bite now that it's not final sale), and instead cleaned out my closets and found 69 items to donate/take to the consignment shop! I haven't even gone through my dressers yet. It feels good to get rid of some of the clutter and be able to see what I already have a bit better. I usually set myself a yearly budget and item limit, and this cleanout won't change those benchmarks, but now I know I have room for the things I do end up adding this year, and I'll definitely end 2019 with less than I started.

    1. I'm sure they'll let you return it, that's terrible.

I went through my shirts this weekend and pulled out a few to donate/sell. 69 is a lot!!!

    2. I definitely had some unworn, tags on items from 2012 in my closet up until the last year or two! I'm sorry you got a bad one though. Hopefully CS can help you. I placed an order the other day and one item in it was final sale (the slim boyfriend jean in cedar wash). If it's a mistake, it's a $32 mistake, so not the end of the world, but I think I know my size in this one. I hate when I make a final sale mistake, though, even a smaller one.

I need to find more to sell from my closet too. I've gotten rid of all the obvious things and now I'm down to the harder choices. Great job finding so much to get rid of! I hope I do that well.

    3. Good for you, 69 items is a lot! I hope I can be similarly inspired.

    4. Excellent, Alyssa! You’re an inspiration! I’ve been half-heartedly working on decluttering, too. I did donate my entire collection of leggings, jeggings and similar unflatteringly tight pants, as well as a lot of kitchen and bathroom clutter, so I have made some progress. While I’m trying to do both, I recognize that limiting the new items I bring in is infinitely more important for me than selling/donating/throwing away things I already own. So far I’m doing great with my low-buy but the year has barely begun.

    5. Great, job Alyssa! I'm afraid that I could donate a lot more than 69 items if I actually got the willpower to declutter.

Continuing the theme of baby steps. Today, I put on a boy shirt that I love G9680. Of course, that made me wonder if they have anything similar online. I found the boyfriend utility shirt on sale in my size. There was only one left and it was not final sale. Typically I would have hurried to check out but today, I paused. I will think about it some more and if I am lucky/unlucky the shirt will be gone tomorrow.

    6. I'm curious - were you able to get a full refund for your defective items? I'm asking because lately every order I place I have something I have to return because its obviously not new - one item had black dog hair stuck all over the fabric, one had snags up & down the front, another had a defective zipper/hook 'n eye and today, the shoes I ordered, they sent me two RIGHT shoes!!? I boxed all these items up, sent them back and today I hear from them and they tell me 'sorry, they were final sale'...oh h......no.

  2. Huge sale update this morning and things aren't final sale (at least what I looked at). Most of my 12/31 order still hasn't shipped including my CAPTOE boots.

I did order the double breasted glen plaid blazer with ruffle pockets. I've been eyeing this for awhile. I have an older black and ivory houndstooth blazer I love but it's a little tight across my upper back so I haven't worn it in awhile. My gym habit means many of my higher quality blazers are tighter in the shoulders, so for the sale price minus rewards hopefully it will work. There are several glen plaid/houndstooth blazers but some of them have questionable nylon/poly content. The ruffle pocket is questionable but I'm hoping with a simple top and jeans it will be a fun feminine pop. Or I can stick the pockets in.

Now I'm off to post a few blazers on Poshmark.

    1. Suz Has, I totally agree regarding the questionable fiber content of some of the glen plaid. I have the oversized blazer in glen plaid and the synthetic blend fabric doesn’t even resemble wool. After all the promos, I only paid $45 for it, but Italy's Nello Gori mill should be ashamed of producing that fabric.

    2. Oh that's terrible! And that's the blazer (and Topcoat) that seems to have the nicest pattern and detail. I just tried on several older blazers and even though I think some were purchased at factory the quality was so much higher. They're lined and the shape is flattering. They're more of the schoolboy with the shrunken look which I don't love as much even if it might be more flattering. I'm holding in to the ivory and black one for now but I haven't worn these in years. Sad to say...

    3. If it's the same fabric as the matching Camerons, it is a bit questionable. I'm wearing my glen plaid Camerons right now, and they fit a 1/2 smaller than my solid color 365 Camerons. There is stretch and they definitely have a poly slippy feel. It is warm though - it's 35 degrees today and I was fine wearing them with the wind blowing.
I like the print with the blue running through it - they match an exact shade of blue that JC always uses.

    4. FWIW, I tried the ruffle pocket blazer when it first came out and wasn't a fan. Fit, fabric, etc. But I've seen it on others on IG and thought it looked better on them than on me. I have the glen plaid Dover blazer from last fall and an older glen plaid Regent so I'm good in that space but I always tend to gravitate towards the print. Let us know what you think!

      Delete
    5. Oh darn, I didn't realize there was blue in the print. I can't see that online. Oh well...

      Delete
    6. I checked the pic again. The pants have blue and have a different pattern name, if you enlarge the pic all the way you can see the pants don't match the blazer which is kind of odd.

      Delete
    7. That’s bizarre! Good thing you checked because I had been thinking about getting the blazer to match. I held off because double breasted blazers and I don’t get along, and the ruffle pocket was giving me second thoughts. Super glad I held off!

    8. EEPS, I haven't worn a double breasted blazer in a long time so I don't even know if it will work. I figure I'll mostly wear it open. I'm hoping it works with my leather pants. I don't love them with most blazers, the length is off.

  4. This is totally off topic but I had to laugh as I was perusing the sale section this morning (no purchases though)I noted that in one of the photos for the supersoft yarn turtleneck dress - the model has the Cocoon coat tied around her waist. WHY?! Nobody ever is going to tie a coat like that around their waist...I had to laugh. Totally random.

    1. Maybe I should have tried styling mine this way . I just gave /donated 1 unworn cocoon coat (bought last year on super sale) in Grey and one Sandstone one which i wore about three times going out of dinner. but all giggles aside I hope who ever gets mine uses them..

    2. @Unknown haha! when I saw your post about your donation I was wishing that I could find such treasures at my local thrift shop! I have the factory city coat in the tan color which was my replacement for my older sandstone cocoon which I sold after I lost weight. I miss the functional pockets that were in the older Cocoon coats.

  5. After trying on the Point Sur wide leg crop jeans I got in tall (final sale) I decided to let down the hem. I have a seam ripper and I'm not afraid to use it. 😂 IMO I much prefer them this length and style. The folded hem to me makes the wide leg kind of stiff. I also prefer the ankle length over the mid calf. They look good. I already washed them to fringe up the edge more. It's still a little out of my comfort zone but I think more wearable like this.

    1. That's awesome! Can't wait to see!
I often think cropped pants would look more flattering just a wee bit longer.

      Delete
    2. I have the same pants...maybe I will look at just changing the hem to 1/4" standard "jeans" hem and seeing where that would take them.

      Delete
    3. Posted a pic of the bottom with my snakeskin boots.
P banos there is almost a 2" hem because of how it's folded so they'd probably be ankle length for you. I think you're a little taller than I am.

      Delete
    4. I have a long (32) inseam for 5'7". That is how the hem is on the green Foundry pants - folded twice. So could I let them out one fold or twoo then?

      Delete
    5. Yes, it's the same type of double hem. I'm not sure if you could carefully undo just one, but it might be possible. I unraveled the whole thing basically at once.

      Delete
    6. I'll test it out for the one fold drop and report back! I also prefer less cropped crops, though I liked these even as they are.

      Delete
    7. So if I remove the stiching, I will have to hem again. Slightly different hem than the Foundry pants, where you can just remove the first fold and leave a hem. So for now I will keep letting them out in mind, but will wait until Spring to decide.

    8. I know exactly what you mean. I wanted the raw edge so it worked for me. If you want a true hem, yes, you will need to re hem.

  6. I somehow keep missing all sale updates! Jumping on the declutter bandwagon, since lately I have been thinking about how unfortunate it is that I always reach for the same stuff and the garments that don't get play could serve someone and get the love they deserve. I listed stuff on poshmark and the selling thread here. I realized that the happiness of knowing that the stuff I sell will get used overrides the happiness I feel looking at items I love but are not a good fit for my lifestyle.
Looking at some of these items, I am really surprised at how great the quality used to be. I had forgotten!

  7. I received my Wide Leg Cropped Corduroy in 4Tall, Melted Caramel from the 60% sale. Based on reviews, and the True Fit, I ordered up one size. The fit is loose, but totally wearable. I love the wide wale corduroy and the color. They are basically full length on me in the Tall, but there is enough hem for me to take them down a little longer if I decide that would look better. I would recommend these pants if you like a wide leg trouser. I will definitely wear these! They look well with my blue/white stripe embellished Perfect Shirt, and with a black turtleneck. I have to work on other combinations...

    1. Oh I definitely think I would prefer those full length or closer to it. I don't,wear that color (it's not great for my skin tone) but I've always liked it with a deep red or hunter green. Even charcoal might work. I haven't seen it aside from a quick glance in the store while it was on the sale rack.
If you're thinking classic menswear inspiration a deep eggplant would probably look beautiful too, although it might pull more yellow out of the color. I see it with rich jewel tones but more autumnal colors might be nice too.

    2. I will go with pants in any color, only pay attention to color next to my face. I like the idea of dark red!
They definitely work with chambray, and I just bought a chambray shirt.

  8. Received the popback Pencil Skirt in Daisy Floral in 4P. At $30ish it wasn't a steal, but still a very good find. I like the small b&w print, and I often reach for pencil skirts.

Liberty Puffer Scarf: just trying it out, it radiates warmth. Has a nice feel for synthetics. Pretty, muted colors. It is too cumbersome for my lifestyle, though. If you can sit pretty or are usually empty-handed, go for it.

Tippi jungle cat sweater: love the colors and design. On the fence because even though it's easy to wear, I don't normally like loud things near my face. I usually save that for shoes or bottoms. Not sure why I'm hesitating- probably a sign to return.

Hesitating also on a few wardrobe items. Trying to keep only the things I like best, but I feel too guilty to discard them. They would likely be recycled at best.

And a personal vent: my washing machine is evil. The combination of lesser quality clothing these days and awful HE washers makes me want to retire to The Riviera, where I left just hand-washy bikini in the sink every day and dry it by wearing it in the sun.

  9. I visited on Sunday to do a side-eye return (still cracking up on that one!) Bought the tall h/heel boot. The reviews were all over the place so CS waived the FS...thankful for that. They looked beautiful in the box but I was not happy with the fit especially the slouchiness. The sale section at Chevy Chase was pretty full including several coat styles but I didn't buy. Setting up a postmark to purge my closet. Lookout for this newby!!

    1. Rashwanda, please feel free to send me your poshmark user name when you sign up, so I can share your closet. I’ve sold quite a bit on there to finance my education when I went back to school and I wish I had someone to help me get started. Also, make sure someone refers so before you sign up, I believe there is a $5 or $10 credit if you sign up through a referral link. I know many JCAs here have posh closets and can refer you, I am happy to do so as well. Always happy to answer questions too, since the platform can get a bit overwhelming at first. Best of luck!

    2. Thanks A.B.!! Very much appreciate the advice...and the boost. I started with my local consignment shop and Poshmark is next on the list. Each year I read the declutter stories and I am finally getting myself together for my own. For a work-at-home mother, if I buy one more coat, my closet might explode

  10. All I could find this weekend was a pair of indoor slippers. I hope it ships! I really can’t find much to buy lately which I guess is good since I am also in declutter mode like many other JCAs.
I know many of you have bought the silk easy pant in jungle cat. Does the silk hold up in the crotch and butt seam? My fear is that it’ll disintegrate there like it does in the blythe shoulder seam. Appreciate any insights!

  12. Re the jungle cat pant. It will probably tear at the seams at some point with frequent use. I haven't worn them extensively enough to review directly, but I can make some observations. The quality is akin to the Drake's silk items. I've worn the Magical Unicorn top out a few times, in my size, and the Bird of Paradise pant around the house in a size up. I consider them to have a finite life, even though I haven't experienced any damage so far. Past J.Crew silk items have disintegrated. They were usually much thinner, but the jungle cat isn't exactly a thick twill. I have two old-school J.Crew silk pieces I consider to be durable (library print and pembridge dot cloth). I do love the jungle cat print, and at the sale price I could afford to get a 4P for dressing up and a looser, longer 4R for the house. I have worn through cotton pajama seams, so I expect these to go if I wear them enough. I plan to do so in moderation to enjoy them longer. I hand wash them. For comparison, I also believe the thicker silk camis to be more durable. And with pants, would it be the silk tearing or the stitching falling apart? Hard to say anymore... last summer a bem came undone ony $50 shorts. I discovered there was 0 stitching in the first place holding it up. I considered gluing it, then stopped wearing them since they were already faded and I realized I had just seriously considered gluing my clothes back together :(
