"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Just found out my local store in Ottawa Canada will be closing on November 25. While I rarely bought anything, the staff were always super helpful. I will also have to ship my returns which will be expensive, so I will likely reduce my purchases even more. Have any other stores closed in Canada?

      Now that Mercantile is in Hudson’s Bay, I wonder if retail is next - which might facilitate the closure of the actual JCrew stores... Two in the GTA have already closed.

    3. Also just returned from the Ottawa store, sad to be losing them and I will definitely be very hesitant to make any online purchases if I have to pay for returns. I had no idea Mercantile was at the Bay! Is it in-store or online only?

    4. Maybe some JCrew will end up at Nordstrom, which has a few Madewell pieces, including bags. There are a few Mercantile items on the Bay website.

      In some ways I am not surprised JCrew is reducing its footprint in Canada because their prices are very high and quality quite poor. I find better quality at Aritzia and Cos for better prices.

    5. In store! Saw a whole section yesterday at the Sherway Gardens Bay, with signs “now carrying JCrew Mercantile”. Nordstrom gets some retail JCrew in store, there’s always the hope they will increase their offerings in the future. I have not heard anything about the remaining four JCrew stores in Toronto closing, we’ll have to wait and see...

    6. Oh no, I am so sad to hear this! Ottawa is my closest store and I love the staff. This will def impact my online shopping because $25 for returning an order is a lot. It was such a nice store with crewcuts too I can’t believe they’re closing esp with Rideau having been revamped.

    7. I just checked The Bay and the Mercantile stuff is showing up online too. Some of it is included in the current flash sale.

  2. Hi - Sorry to hear that, makes returns problematic for you.
    I live in Atlanta GA and they have closed a few stores close to me and turned one store into only men's clothing. Sad that a once thriving company is in this condition

  3. Does anyone know what JC Black Friday specials is generally? Is it 40% off?
    Seems like Anthro generally does 30% off everything

  4. new promo 'FRIENDS" Sunday sale was one day only 35% off sale . next promo was to end tomorrow not today. now its 30% off sale. just silly. make it 40% and clear it out. quite changing promos so often. part time job just to keep track.
    I love a good promo...but the past few yrs J Crew's Black Friday promo
    I didn't even order...it was not that great. IMO

  5. PA not applied to credit card for order (they say they will issue it after order ships) mine was not. called . it will now be credited now. but will take 5-10 business days to show up on card. CS...told me it was missed....gee. check your statements JCA's...

  6. the website still sucks regardless of which browser I use. I tried to put a few things in my cart this morning and kept getting error messages. J.Crew, you're making it really easy to not shop.

  7. I ordered a few things to try with the new promo, including a few things I ordered last week ship to store. I was traveling and might not be able to get to the store to pickup. One item was less last week, one was more, but I used rewards so now I need to call and see if they will allow me to apply the rewards to this order instead, as people said when you return items you lose the rewards.

    1. I called CS. Israel was so helpful. He credited my rewards to another order (the dress) and then applied the extra 15 code I used to another order so I didn't lose it.

  8. Went to Rockefeller Monday nights for returns and pick up. I ordered the embellished pumps... Tts. I got 8.... thinking they small bit exchanged for 7.5.... the sole is all silver.... very fancy
    Store had lots of colors and sweaters.... looked pretty.... I walked in 7:50pm sondod mot look around.... but was told 40 off for Black Friday no exclusions.... will see....lol

  9. Was happy that the Italian double-cloth wool lady day coat with Thinsulate® was included as a part of the FRIENDS/FAMILY promo today. I was able to get the VIBRANT FUCHSIA in my size before it sold out - most of the bigger sizes are already gone. I have several of these coats and love them.
    I hope we see 40% without exclusions for Black Friday/Cyber Monday but I didn't want to wait and risk an exclusion or sell out. Worth the extra 5% for me this time

    2. I give up. I was on vacation for 2.5 weeks so I stopped placing orders a week before I left in case things arrive while I'm gone. Now I'm back and the website refuses to let me check out. So I'll continue not buying anything. It's amazing how much easier it is to continue a dry spell rather than try to start a dry spell.

  11. I am sure that I missed this conversation at some point but what is the difference in JC retail vs. Mercantile vs. factory? I cant figure out how/where the Mercantile fits in
