J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Review and pics of the linen button back dress on my IG

  2. Today I tried on the Asymmetrical sheath dress J1358 at my local store. Though I liked the dress style and it fit me well in a 6, the fabric did not wow me. I would have loved this dress in silk with a lining. Dry-cleaning is a negative, but not as much with sleeveless dresses. In the end the nice style and great price did not overcome the fabric for me.

I also tried (and purchased) the 7" stretch chino short H5809 in white. I went up to a 6 from my usual pants size 4, same as I did for the 4" chino shorts last summer. I am a curvy figure, and prefer the extra room in the thigh. Since the waist is a mid-rise, I can manage the gap with a wide belt. I tried them on with royal blue panties, and while I could see them, it will be fine with skin-tone panties.

And I finally gave up my search for a funnelneck eyelet shirt that fit, H7572. I really really wanted to make this shirt work, I haunted popbacks for weeks, I ordered it in 8, 6Tall, 6, and 4Tall. The 4Tall was the best fit, but this shirt has too much fabric in the midsection. I loved the eyelet and the neckline, but the cut could not work for my hourglass shape. Sigh...

    1. I kind of felt the same about the eyelet.

    2. Thanks @Sue Has, at least I am not the only one. When I could not decide, I tried it then switched to my linen perfect shirt. That made it obvious which style fit me better.

BTW, I wore the stretch chino shorts for like half an hour -- and called to do an exchange for a size 4. They stretch out right away! But that was not true of last years 4 inch chino shorts, they must not have been stretchy.

    3. I know exactly what you mean since I tend to size up in shirts due to my shoulders but have a long narrow torso. The thicker eyelet just can't be tucked well and it doesn't drape so it just kind of hangs. I tried a bunch of sizes (you may or may not recall, 😂) and decided it just didn't work.

    4. I do recall now you mention it. Guess I had to burn my fingers to learn not to touch the stove. Final sale makes me much more cautious than returns!

    5. Agreed! I'll try anything if it's not final sale!

    6. chiming in, I forced a 4t to work on me with the original funnel neck, but I could not make anything work in the eyelet!

    7. Wonder what the return statistics were on that shirt!

  3. so got those white boyfriend jeans (the ones that were massive sale)... got my regular size 26 and they fit... they're slouchy... but i kinda want to try a smaller size because i feel like these will stretch out a lot during the day. but of course the jeans are not available for even exchange at my store and the magic sale price is no more. not sure what to do.

    1. Did you phone CS? They will order you a different size at the same price and then you return the pair that does not fit.

    2. It is easy for the SA to order you the size you need and adjust the price to the one u paid.

    3. I just shot CS an email (I'm traveling right now). Fingers crossed. Thanks, ladies!

  4. Received a few sale orders. With the stacking promo codes and 10% ebates, decided to order some more summer items as basics.

    1. Sean Hornbeak - slim boyfriend jeans in white denim with tuxedo stripe. I love these jeans; they've broken in after wearing them for the day. Only a 30 was available so I went for it, but my usual 29 would've worked. The jeans aren't 100% cotton; they have 1% elastene. Also ordered same jeans in indigo patches in size 29 when they popped back, so hope they fit tts.

2.Wore jeans today with Point Sur Tie Front Stripe Linen Top. Ordered a tall medium, and really needed the extra length, so it wouldn't be short. I love linen for summer. This is an easy top that will also pair well with shorts for vacation.

    Happy with both purchases.

    1. Where are those jeans? I didn't see them when I checked.

    2. NVM I found them by googling. Cute!

    3. Good ‘ole Google! I saw them on @stylebymaca and decided to try. Will see how the other pair works since they’ve shipped. Shipping has been much better lately in terms of speed. Happy 4th to you and the fam in your new home!

  5. Styling the boyfriend chewed hems jeans on the blog. I'm obsessed with the length and detail of these jeans. Fit well, but had to size down. I originally bought the 27, but it stretched out so much around the house, so I returned for the 26. Perfect length for ballet flats, espadrilles, etc. I'm 5'4" for reference.

  6. Received all of the sale items I ordered last week. Some hits, some misses.
The cotton button front sundress in the coral paisley - love the print, which is a reissue of the medallion paisley print from 2009. It’s well constructed, fully lined in cotton with pockets, and I took my regular size. However, the bodice seems to be designed for a very particular shape with boob pockets built in instead of just some side darts. Unfortunately, I’m not sure my boobs are a good fit. The waist is also a bit high and if I lengthen the straps to make it sit at my waist, the boob cups seem too far down. Not sure if it’s a keeper.
Cora sandals in haircalf - I’m usually a 7 in most shoe brands, but often have to size up for JCrew, especially pumps. Given the reviews, I ordered a 7.5 and that was the right call. The calf hair is beautiful and the sandal was comfortable, but I personally didn’t like the width of the straps on my feet, so I’ll be returning these, despite the fabulous price.
All Day Mules in Gingham - these fit best in a 7, love the height, wish the blue was a bit darker, the front was too wide for my foot though and I kept slipping forward in them, making the strap dig into my foot. Not a good fit for my feet, so I’m not keeping these either.
9” high rise white toothpicks with button fly - I thought these fit TTS. They are a true cropped length on me with a 26” inseam, although they are more of a mid rise than high rise on my torso. They are stretchy and comfortable, but you can see the seams and pockets pretty clearly, which bothers me. They were less than $15 after promos, and I don’t have any white skinnies and I like the button fly, so I’ll likely keep.
High rise white denim shorts with button fly - they fit TTS, are truly high rise and very comfortable, but I liked them best cuffed but then they are shorter than I’m comfortable with so I’m returning them.
Summerweight pullover sweater in embroidered palm leaf - this is TTS, but fits like the embroidered shark sweater - looser on top, with a tighter banded bottom. I love the shark sweater, so I thought this would be perfect, but while the material has beautiful drape and is breezy, it is totally transparent. The Shark sweater is slightly sheer, but this is way more, I’d absolutely have to wear a cami with it, which I’m not interested in doing. The color was lovely and the palm embroidery well done, but it’s also a return for me.
Parke Blazer in Seersucker - I ordered both colors, they are TTS and fit well. Love the muted colors of the seersucker and that the material has a slight stretch. They were a steal at less than $15, they are keepers for me for sure. However, they are extremely basic blazers - there is no fun lining (Just white poly), no interior piping or ticket pockets, no reinforced buttons. The quality is definitely less than with any of my other JC blazers.
Point Sur Seaside Pant in Chambray - these are a surprise love. I took the larger of my two pant sizes because I wanted them a bit slouchy and they are perfectly roomy. The blue shade is lovely and they are very cool and lightweight. The chambray feels more like a linen blend even though they are all cotton.
Boy shirt in cotton linen mixed stripe - this was true to size, roomy as boy shirts are supposed to be. The color was great, I liked the stripe mix, but the material is a bit scratchy and stiff. I caught it on super sale, so it was less than $15, so I may keep and try to soften with washing.
And lastly, the Half Moon Crystal earrings. These remind me of classic JCrew. Love the soft pink of the lucite, they are well constructed and not very heavy given their size. They were winners for me.

  7. I placed several orders from J.Crew Factory in the last couple of weeks. I've really been needing some dresses, for going out in the evenings, and also for work.
My size: 5' 6'', 130lb, curvy figure (I carry all my weight in my hips/butt), usually size S or 4.

J0982 - Cotton Linen apron dress in Red
Absolutely love this, the tie in the back is so cute and different. It's a flattering dress and it was perfect to wear out on the 4th. Runs a bit big, I sized down from S to XS. Fairly comfortable fabric too, for factory quality linen blend.

J0967 - ruffle front cami dress
Returned. Poor fit, very boxy, and very cheap thin fabric. It wasn't flattering on. Runs big too.

    J0941 - eyelet midi dress
I really liked this dress, I'm a sucker for anything with a strappy back. I got it in white, and its surprisingly well-lined and not see through at all. It runs large so I sized down to an XS and its still a bit large in the chest area, but I'm sure XXS would be too small. I have an odd chest/shoulder ratio so I will probably have to get another button hole sewn in so I can shorten the straps even further. I'm pretty pleased with this dress. I'm a B/C cup and I can wear this without a bra, but bustier gals may have a harder time making this dress work. Theres no way you can wear a bra with this, you would have to use one of those sticky cups.

J0952 - Chambray faux wrap dress
This dress is SO CUTE for summer. Lightweight material, flirty, short hemline but not too short. Its surprisingly well made. I sized down to a 2 in this (i'm usually a 4 in dresses).

    J0997 - Scoopneck dress
I ordered this in both pink and navy becuase I really need some conservative dresses for work events. I'm pretty happy with this dress - it fits well, suprisingly very flattering on my curvy figure. Usually J.Crew sheath dresses do not fit me well in the hips but this dress fits a lot better. The fabric is very thin and its not the best material, unfortunately. I will probably have to wear spanx underneath just to smooth things out! I took my usual size 4 in this dress.

    H5060 Cap sleeve vneck dress
OMG this dress! Perfect for work. Conservative, has sleeves, fits well for a sheath dress and is flattering on my curvy hips, and is actually made out of a decently thick material. It's no 4 season wool from retail, but for a factory dress it will do! I really hope J.Crew comes out with more dresses like this one. I took my usual size 4.

    Other items:

    J0905- Pull on Midi skirt
Got this in pink. SO CUTE and perfect for summer. Hits at my knees, so its perfect for work. Will look great with a simple white tee, or a button down to dress it up more. I sized down to an XS in this and its a bit tight but it will work.

    J1072 - One shoulder top
Cute, very flattering. It's a great going out top but its actually comfortable. Nice soft material. Will look great with shorts and jeans! I sized down to an XS. Small was just too boxy.

J0481 - Tie shoulder sweater tank top
Will be returning this - its just not as flattering in person and the knit just looks chunky and cheap. It's also really short and its right at my hips. I wish it was a bit longer. I took an XS, but I wonder if an S would be more flattering? Either way I wasn't wow-ed by this top so I will be returning.

    G3367 - Scalloped cami top
I wanted to love this item, I really did especially considering its an affordable alternative to a similar top at retail. I'm shocked it has such positive reviews online. I wasn't that impressed by this top, it was just too boxy and the fabric was really cheap feeling. Usually I'm ok with cheaper fabrics from factory but with the poor fit as well, I just felt like this top wasn't worth it. I tried both XS and S, and they were both unflattering.

  8. I've loved the Jcrew Aesthetic for years and own a few sweaters. But, I'm a US Women's size 18/20 (Uniqlo 2X and Old Navy 16) and so really only window-shopped, bought a few accessories, and the like. I heard and saw that J.Crew increased it's size range I'm excited. But before I get disappointed that they don't carry these sizes in the store (I much prefer to try things on before I buy not buy and hope and have to send back), I figured I'd ask if anyone has any experience with these new extended sizes.
