JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. My size 7 $16 leopard cora's finally shipped after 5 days and being available for purchase in my size the entire time.

  2. So did mine in 10. But I already know they will be too small, since the 10.5 arrived and just fit. I do however, have a pair in 11 (1-1.5 sizes up for me) on the way, and they were $13.50. Part of the reason for high return rates is due to inconsistent sizing issues. So there will be at least two of three returns. Plus the leopard cross straps are on the way (in 10) and I really only plan to keep one pair.

The question is how will I actually wear them? I don't do open toe shoes at work, and I don't wear shoes around the house. So these are to slip on when I'm going out on the weekend and not walking far...or when I am going out on the deck at home.
At least the leopard should work with almost anything!

    1. Why can't they be used for walking far? I can wear them to my office job but I don't intend to very often if it all. I have calf hair leopard Jimmy Choo flip flops that were beloved and these are hopefully going to be my replacement.

It seems like you are set between the two! They will add fun to any weekend wear, that's for sure. That's how I will mostly wear them, too :).

    2. When I walk far I mean 3+ mile type rambles!

I'm sure if I get two that fit I will try and talk myself into both...

I am also guilty of buying multiple colors in a garment I like...and even duplicates for some things. That policy works ok if you stay the same size (I work hard at that!) and for fashion-neutral items or if you just don't care what is in style!

  4. I’m doing my semi-annual closet clean out. Each time I do this, I pause at my J Crew Wool Jacket/Blazer. It’s item No. 03412.
The colorway I have is the olive green with navy blue piping trim and brass buttons.
I love this piece, but for the life of me, can’t seem to figure out how to style it.
The only outfit I’ve been able to make is to wear it over a cream and black striped t-shirt, with black pants.
Any suggestions from JCA’s would be appreciated! Otherwise I think this one will go in the “sell” pile.

    1. That is such a neat jacket! Try cranberry/wine pencil skirt, straight or taper leg pants, or even cranberry/wine jeans.

    2. I love that jacket! Why not just over distressed denim and a white button down, crewneck tee, etc? I think I didn't get that one because of the navy but I love it. That said I know sometimes proportions are off and I def have certain jackets that don't work the way I anticipate.

    3. I love that jacket - it’s a keeper! I would wear it with a blue and white striped Perfect Shirt untucked and medium-wash slim denim.

    4. Thank you all so much for these ideas! I’m going to hang onto it, try some of these ideas, and really make more of an effort to wear it this fall.

  5. Question: how is the fit on the Regent blazer? Take the same size as schoolboy? More fitted? I've never tried on the regent and am curious about it. I hated it when it first came out, and now that collar has kind of grown on me.

    1. Regent I find to be a little less boxy but comparable fit. I've been a 2-4 in both. Twos have gotten a little snug across my upper back from weight lifting. The schoolboy is a bit shorter

    1. Thank you! I ordered and got extra in case my girls wanted too. I also found a pair in black with stars that were cute.

    2. Thanks! I have navy and pink but added a black net pair to my “collection.” What a deal!

  7. I received the black Embroidered top in cotton voile today. I was afraid since I do best in tailored tops and skirts. But the pretty embroidery lured me. And this is a keeper for me, as long as I wear it tucked and a nude bra. I tried it with the white Ashbury flares and with a slim a-line black skirt. Both worked well. And for sure I will wear it tucked in white shorts. Anyone else have this top & ideas?
