"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not a vent: Ebates is offering a 14% rebate for J.Crew right now. If you have a VIP or other discount, it might be a good time to use it.

    1. Came to report the same thing as Jeanne...! FYI, ebates is offering 14% cash back on Madewell purchases as well! Happy ❤️ Day!

  2. Officially two weeks in, half way done, and I'm holding strong on #noshopfebruary (aside from the minor mishap within the first few days, not counting the emergency iPad Pro one of my college girls needed to buy when her laptop died).

There are still a few things I'd like to try/buy but the promo (or exclusion from said promo) is not great enough to get me to pull the trigger.

    1. Ditto. I’m not so sure how well I would be doing if extra 50% (or even more) off on clearance was in effect though.

    2. My 30% off code came late last night and they resent it in an email this morning. I've bought one thing - the paisley silk blouse, however I already own the pants and have only worn them once in November. The blouse will be much easier to throw on and wear to work, and a 4T popped back so I "had" to.

I will not buy anything else at these prices. And school electronics for children most certainly do NOT count Suz!

    3. @Shopping Celle I agree that it is so much easier when there is no % off sale and not much of interest in new arrivals. I am making a return this weekend and i am hoping I can be strong.

    4. Unsubscribing from marketing e-mails was helpful. If they send no e-mails or promo codes, I’m even less tempted by the new arrivals.

    5. @Cheritheberry I didn’t get a code, does it work on sale items? I placed an order last week with no % off that I’d like to PA if so! Can anyone confirm?

      Delete
    6. Nope, I even added sale items to my cart and did a mock checkout to double check. Off select full price merch.

Ironically, the email address that gets the codes is the one I have never placed an order through. My regular email address still only receives order confirmations and ship notifications.

  3. Just got off the phone requesting multiple PAs for the Factory new arrivals I received yesterday. I don’t order a lot from Factory (I do find a few things are actually better than retail), but the prices of items I do order are invariably much lower within days. Annoying to have to take the time to check the website, do the math and call, but CS is always very nice about it.

    1. Yeah, the bouncing Factory prices are so frustrating! I wish they'd do another of those Gilt City coupons - those are great.

    2. Gilt City coupon was so great, silver_lining ... me, too!

    1. @wellfedfred - Time to stock up? I sometimes see old datebooks at TJ Maxx, too, and I wonder if anyone buys them. And, if so, why?

    2. Price conscious time travelers buy them mostly.

    3. Thank you for posting this! I've been waiting to buy an expired datebook until the price was just right!

I saw datebooks clearanced at Tuesday Morning and they are 2018 datebooks. J. Crew is nuts!

  6. Anyone know if the new lightweight sweateer blazer has the same fit as the existing open front sweater blazer? I had to size down 2 sizes in the original and makes me nervous to order 2 sizes down again if its a "new" version.

  7. Anyone think they will do an extra percent off sale for Presidents' Day? I "need" some crewcuts things for my little, but I'm waiting for the percent off...

    1. I don't know, HollDoll - I think they may be back on their "no % off sale merch" wagon for a while. I noticed some newer things quite marked down today (like the 'drapey heather grey jacket' at 40% off on first MD) so I wonder if they're going to try to mark things down more initially and not have to do an additional %. That's going to be really difficult to retrain customers that are a) used to a % off promo and b) willing to wait it out.

    2. I completely agree silver_lining.

    3. If they are going to go with that strategy, then they need to mark the stuff down equivalent to what the price was with the extra percent off. No one likes to feel like they are being cheated. Mark it down permanently to a lower price and send it out th door.

    4. If it isn't extra percent off, I'm not buying. I recall another JCA saying "I am patient and cheap." That's me, too, as I certainly do not need any more clothes.

      Delete
    5. Plus one for the permanent markdown. And yes, the things they are selling are things people can wait for.

      Delete
    6. Permanent markdown or % off, I know what the current styles and quality of merch are worth to me and what I’m willing to pay, and extra 30 off first markdown is sort of the bare minimum for me. Not budging.

Do you think there is ANY customer anymore who believes J Crew is worth FP?

    7. visitors from Space, maybe — a planet where fields of polyester grow dankly under a dark sun, to be harvested by sad stooped creatures whose eyes go in different directions and whose waists begin where their arms connect to their bodies, and who have no nerves in their feet.

  8. Not sure if it applies to all stores carrying Crewcuts but at Brookfield, there's a sign saying 20% off three or more Crewcuts items, everyday.

    1. I don’t this deal applies to everything at Crew Cuts. I believe it only applies to select items they refer to as “everyday essentials”...ie sweats, leggings, tees.

  9. got wrong items shipped twiced in the past 3 weeks. No shopping for me from J crew. But F21 is doing freeshipping on $21 so I got a few 100
5 cotton items to try on.

    1. Me too, so peeved about that cause one item was a pop back. I just keep stalking them hoping I can re-order them.

  10. I'm still #shoppingless but today's 30% off promo, free shipping and 14% ebates made me order the going out blazer with ruffles. I expect it will go on sale eventually, but as J Crew is frequently only doing a % off full price items promo nowadays, this seemed like a good deal

  11. I have a one time code for 30% off and free shipping that expires tonight if you all need it?

  12. oh look, another puppies in my shopping bag email. Just stop, J.Crew. STOP.

  13. I was resolute in not buying anything for the month of February but I just dropped $200 on the extra 30% off all sale items ALRIGHT I ADMIT IT!

    I'M WORTHLESS AND WEAK!

...but fabulously well-heeled in J.Crew mercantile.
