Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Darn insomnia. I barely slept at all last night. It’s my own fault for drinking a caffeinated beverage at bedtime. But, since I was awake, I checked the J.Crew sale section at some ridiculous middle-of-the-night hour. I was surprised to find the striped Tippi sweater with cherry patch for only $38.49 after discount. Wow. Wasn’t that just released? Also, I saw Tippi cardigans in the popbacks. When were they were discontinued? It seems like it’s been a few years ago.

  3. I was super tempted this morning when I saw the two new bandanas (elephant and Liberty) get marked down, but as I was about to hit the button, I asked myself, when was the last time I used a bandana (answer: never). #NSF continues along.

    Replies
    1. @eeps - I looked at the bandanas, too, and came to the same conclusion. What do people do with them? They're really too small to use as a scarf and I don't care for the tied-on-a-handbag look. So, yeah, they're pretty but worthless.

      Delete
    2. Sometimes I'll tie them around my wrist. I actually enjoy wearing them, especially in the summer, instead of a necklace. I twist them up kind of tight and knot loosely around my neck. They're weightless and add a little pop to even a basic tee and shorts.

      Delete
    3. I must not be tying them correctly because I tried this before and I ended up nearly strangling myself. The only bandanna I own was purchased for $2.99 and used as a sweatband on a hike (my friends then called me Commando for the rest of the trip). 19" seems so tiny to me - I am used to Hermes scarf sizes. How do you keep them from becoming sweaty messes during the summer?

      Delete
    4. Like Suz, I like the bandanas tied around the neck. I think they make a basic tee and chinos or skirt look chic. That said, I just received the Liberty and elephant bandanas and I'm disappointed in the Liberty one. Instead of a nice and tidy narrow hem, they just sewed zigzagging around the raw edges. Geez. I could do that myself with any old square of fabric. Seems a shame to treat a nice Liberty fabric so cheaply. I'll keep this one because I got it on sale and the navy goes with a lot of things but probably won't buy another one made like that.

      Delete
    5. @eeps, I tie the knot very close to the end so it's as long as possible.

      Delete
    6. I’m always tempted by bandanas that are cheap and cute, but I don’t buy them as I don’t know what I’d do with them realistically. I like the look when people wear them as bracelets or neckerchiefs, but I know I’d be unlikely to do it myself. However, after going on an extremely windy cruise late last summer, I allowed myself one bandana purchase as it would have come in handy to keep my hair under control. We’ll see if I get any use out of it this summer. The conditions where I need to batten down my hair but don’t need a hat for sun protection are pretty rare, so one bandana should be more than enough.

  4. I still keep looking. The crepe cap sleeve top was further reduced and it would cost about $21. The temptation is getting stronger even though I'm not crazy about crepe with denim (my usual bottom of choice) but I've got a bunch of skirts and non-denim bottoms that work.

    1. Me too. I keep looking, looking, looking. Once things get below $25 I weaken substantially.

  5. I am now convinced J Crew wants to fail. I received an email from them admonishing me for rating my chat experience poorly. I requested a price adjustment and it was calculated wrong not once, not twice but three times by three representatives. It’s simple math. I simply sent feedback expressing my frustration with the situation in the rating screen that pops up when you disconnect also stating that I was fine and didn’t want a further adjustment, only to receive an unsolicited email telling me that basically they don’t honor the educator discount with any other discount (even though the coupon terms state they do) and admonishing me for having caught their mistake. I wasn’t initially part of no shop february, but seems like J Crew had other plans. Maybe I should have waited for the vent thread but the reality is that I am appalled. In case you’re curious, I basically got a lecture over $7.

    1. Maybe I need to check their math. I never do. I assumed they used a calculator.

    2. whenever i need a price adjustment (or ask for one), i mention the total i paid, the promo and then the new price after the adjustment. i don't trust them to do the math correctly

    1. Interesting but that will not fix poor quality and lack of desirable product offerings.

      Delete
    2. +1. I don't really have any issue with the "experience", it's the product that's lacking.

      Delete
    3. I don’t get it....the online experience isn’t going to make a difference to me, it’s *what* is offered online, not *how* it’s offered that determines whether I buy or don’t buy. FWIW, I’m a huge Starbucks fan and use their app to pay for all of my purchases with them, but coffee ain’t cashmere!

      Delete
    4. I was very intrigued by this news today about Adam Brotman coming to J Crew. I don’t think his experience at Starbucks is going to translate any better for the brand than Jim Brett’s at West Elm.

This is all so weird. The creativity and specialness and style from the days of Jenna and Marissa and Frank have been replaced with two dudes who know how to sell furniture online and coffee via mobile app. What?

More evidence that strategically, they have given up on the product itself. I accept that - which is why 50% off is about what I’m willing to pay for what I get now. A better experience, in store or online, will be lovely but I personally won’t pay more for it. I would pay more for set-in shoulders, lined wool pants, cashmere that doesn’t pill, finished seams, shell buttons and silk.

      Delete
    5. ruffles, yes. They seem to think if they just get the messaging right, all will be well. It's felt like politicians have been running J. Crew for the last couple of years. If they'd fix the product, then the messaging won't be such a challenge.

  9. Nordic boots - prices cut again! This is why I cannot stop checking the darn sale section. Not sure what the US equivalents would be but they were recently cut from about $140 Cdn a few days to $90 Cdn (before codes) a couple of days ago. Today they were $70 pre code ($50 after code). They had limited sizing this morning in the black as well as pecan. When I looked again a little while later, they were gone. No surprise given how great this price is. I never thought reasonably winter boots could be purchased for this price. There will probably be pop backs eventually as people work with finding their right sizing. I wear 5.5 in Ceces and Gemmas and find the 6 works well in the Nordic boots (and I have never seen a 5.5 Nordic on sale). I was tempted to try the pecan (despite the staining issues I've seen reported online) to back up my beloved black pair but resisted. I did not resist the urge to pick up a back up black pair.

They also had the Perfect Winter Boot for about the same price ($50 Canadian after code!). I will admit that I bought those too. I've wanted to try them for a while and they are insanely cheap now with no final sale.

I really have a hard time shopping anywhere else given how great the discounts are at J Crew. To repeat what I've read here before: I'm patient and cheap!

    1. I snagged the perfect winter boots (H1891) when they popped back too. Just under $42 for me when I got them about two weeks ago. We got a little snow but not much (looks like I'm getting 4-6 inches this weekend) but they were cozy and warm and really comfy. I'm actually looking forward to the snow because I have such nice boots now!

  10. The post-code cheap prices are killing me: wintress parka $100 Cdn, toothpick jeans in Odgen wash $30 Cdn...

    1. And then there's the Parke topcoat for $110. Yup, I bought it plus the ones listed above.

  11. I guess I missed some of those great deals, though I did get the Ogden jeans in store for a fair price. I do keep checking...But Still holding on #NSF #noshopFebruary. Going to spend the weekend doing some work around the house while husband and daughter ski.

  12. I am loving the Vintage Straight jeans. Maybe coincidence or maybe J. Crew heard me complaining around here :) I really like the new Mayville wash. With the promo, I ordered an extra pair.

  13. I pulled the trigger on the Drake horse shirt (I have been stalking it for a while) and added the new mules (the ones that look like Belgian loafers) since they were on sale. If I don't like them both then I will send them back.

  14. I'm over winter and the dregs of the winter sales. It's that feeling you get after eating a huge meal and the leftovers are still sitting out. No one wants or needs them so just make them go away.

But I did bite on the garment-dyed french terry hoodie #H4576 in the spring peri colour. I'm really into pale blue tones and this looks like a great spring piece. (If it ever warms up here.)

    1. Same regarding the winter leftovers. Since it's already warm here, I'm more interested in summer clothes at this point.

  15. Did anyone else subscribe to the simply worn minimalism newsletter? I know someone recommended it here a few weeks ago. I just did a closet purge but want to go back and do it the way she recombined this week: pull everything out, put your favorite things back in, then put everything else back with the hangers turned the other way. When you wear those items, turn the hangers back around. After however long (3-6-12 months) purge what you haven’t worn. Love this idea! -lep33shops

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I subscribed as well! Over the last few weekends I have been cleaning out the closet but by category. I think I would just be too over whelmed to pull absolutely everything out of my closet at once. It is eye opening. I am down to skirts and dresses this weekend and should then be fine until summer weather hits. Going to do the hanger method as well to see what I reach for.

      Delete
    2. I did it by category too! But maybe if I put all my favorite things back in right away it would feel a little more manageable to do it her way? I’ll have to think about it

      Delete
    3. Lauren I also feel that by doing the hanger method I may force myself to wear something once just to turn the hanger around. Is something really worth keeping if it gets worn once a year? (aside from special occasion or holiday pieces) I think the answer is it should go but I end up with some pieces in great condition that fit well and looks good on that I can't part with that don't get worn enough.

      Delete
    4. I read her blog posts, but there's nothing there that's new or interesting or innovative, so I see no reason to subscribe.

      Delete
    5. I subscribed, Lauren. Congrats on your progress! I like her approach. I don’t think “innovative” is really necessary for me as there aren’t that many ways to purge a closet. I appreciate the reinforcement and support for my “well-edited closet” goals.

  16. Ugh...just caved on NSF. A stretch perfect shirt I’d been stalking since early Jan finally popped back in my size, and then I ended up adding the Buffalo check shirt-jacket, the club collar shirt in Black Watch, and the long open-front cardigan. While they are always a huge temptation for me, I resisted the urge to add any velvet or sequin pieces, regardless of how cheap they were.

  17. I stopped by the store this morning. I'll do a blog post in the next few days - pics on my Instastories @fablifeforever for the next 24 hours if you want to see the new liberty shell/skirt, pink 365 crepe blazer, silk striped pants, black s/s jumpsuit, silk twill tiger button down, eyelet Jackie, the military green long sleeve shirt dress, and the going out dress.

I did cave to #nsf this week - I bought the 10" high rise toothpicks thinking I'd wear them to a concert. They were a complete impulse and I probably should have just returned them today but I do really love them. We'll see if the price drops, not taking the tags off. I didn't buy anything in store today so that was good, I can wait on most things but definitely have that going out blazer and the jumpsuit on my wish list.

    1. that should say going out blazer, not dress!

    2. Thanks for the try ones. That jumpsuit is 👍🏾! I’ve bought too and happy with the purchases because they’re good basics, like the wool Jackie’s in neutrals, and a few fun pieces I know I’ll wear.

    3. Thanks, Anne - It's fun to see spring things now that we're having a mini heat wave in upstate NY this week (72 on Wednesday, woop woop)!

    4. Anne, I like whatever jeans you're wearing, but I specifically wanted to see the striped pants. They're definitely not supposed to look like that, so if that's your regular size I'd say they run really, really small. Last I went my store didn't have the striped pants and that's what o really want to try, though I wouldn't buy them anywhere near full price. I have a feeling they're going to be a difficult sell for a lot of people. I love harem pants so I'd actually wear them. In the 90s I remember buying rayon and other pants really big so I could wrap and pin the waist. 😂

    5. Hi Anne, did you find the 10” toothpicks much higher than the 9” toothpicks in Prescott wash? (I know we both have the Prescott wash) what is the wash like IRL. I don’t know how to see instastories lol TIA

    6. @ Jan. To see insta stories go to the persons profile and click on their profile pic. That brings you to stories which are only around for 24 hours.

    7. What size did you get in the blazer? I read the reviews and one person said it ran small. It’s so hard to know!

      Delete
    8. Thanks everyone :)

For the silk pants, they're definitely too small. I looked up the photos on NAP, I hadn't seen how they should look and I think in my regular size they'd be ok -this was a size down (store return).

Jan - the 9" Prescott jeans hit right below my navel and the 10" are above my navel - I'd say more similar to the older lookouts. I didn't post a pic but I'm happy to send you a photo. The wash is dark - I think a little darker than the website portrays but not a resin rinse dark.

Lisa T. - Not sure which blazer you're asking about - I'd say both run small. I tried on a 6 in the going out blazer which is the larger of my two blazer sizes and it just fit. The pink blazer was an 8 and was a relaxed fit, I was able to button it comfortably. I think a 6 would be good for me in that as well.

    9. @Suz, thank you so much!

@Anne, thank you, I love my old lookouts so these are really tempting me. If you have a chance to send a pic to ryanjanet@bell.net that would be great. Thanks again for your help always and great reviews. :)

  18. Ok I feel a little better knowing a lot of people caved too! I had insomnia after a red eye flight and caught a bunch of pop backs in my size. There goes #NSF. Ordered the Liberty Ros PJs but sized up because my size sold out from under me so that may end up being a return. Also the Blackwatch flannel pjs, the striped tee shirt dress (super old), and the elephant bandanna because Suz Has convinced me to give bandannas another go. So happy none of it is FS.

    1. Yeah, I thought NSF (at least at J.Crew) would be pretty easy as I don’t love any of the new arrivals, but unless I stop looking, I can see that I’m going to have trouble not buying. I’m okay with grabbing the shirt that popped back today as I know that colour won’t be offered again anytime soon and I’ve been waiting for 6 weeks, but I shouldn’t have allowed myself the 3 impulse purchases. I’ll blame the Buffalo check shirt-jacket on Olympic fever, it’s a huge look for Canadian athletes and fans and I got sucked in. So much for using the force of Stylebook!

  19. Happy long weekend, JCA’s! Two Factory reviews -

Bell-sleeve striped dress (H1378) - If you’re a fan of retail’s stripe maxi dress (F1725) or long-sleeve striped dress (G7980), this feels to be the same fabric. Darts make it flattering. I’m a 4 and the S fit TTS, hits above knee but didn’t feel too short (I’m 5’5”). For $25, it’s a cute multi-season option. I only wonder if the bell sleeves will roll up at the hem.

Open-front sweater blazer (H6915) - I tried the retail version in my usual S (felt too big/sloppy) and XS (felt too fitted) and thought I may have better luck with the factory version. I tried the S in this one and I definitely would not size down - depending on your bust, you may even consider sizing up. The cotton feels just like the other sweater blazer with the buttons - a substantial, somewhat stretchy milano knit. I have long arms and these felt like true bracelet sleeves, unlike the retail version where they felt somewhere between 1/2 and a 3/4 sleeve. Don't think that the collar will flip down as well as the retail version if you're looking to wear it that way - it may need to be played with. All this to say that you may like this one if you didn't have any luck with the retail version. ; )

    1. And some retail returns that I wrote about but never posted -

Vintage short-sleeve pajama set (H4401) - I ordered the “classic green”, which IRL looks a little more yellow-based. I’d say they look more like scrubs than the pretty jade color online. You can really tell how much they cheaped out on these in the bottoms - capri length, no pockets, and an elastic waistband that’s not secured (the one on the pair I tried was already twisting).

Marled crewneck sweater (H9515) - the white in the yarn is really a grayish ivory which made it seem a bit more dingy than I was expecting. Feels nice and thick, but the dropped shoulders/high neckline combo are terrible for me. If this had set-in or raglan sleeves I would’ve kept it, even with the high crew neck.

Evie ballet flats (H5487) - These were too large in my usual 9 and felt a little like I was wearing bags on my feet. Was I supposed to tighten the elastic to tighten them? Then they would really look drawstring bag-like! The jade color was cute but like the jammies, they were already pretty wrinkly (maybe because they were too big). If returns weren’t $7.50 I would try an 8.5, but I don’t want to rack up a bunch of return fees just to try on things that don’t work out. Ann Taylor has a pretty green ballet flat that looks a little more structured.

    2. Thanks for the reviews, silver_lining, esp the Open Front Sweater Blazer. I also had issues fitting the retail version between XS-S, and I found the navy was a tad larger than the black, so sizing inconsistencies.

I’ve had good luck w the recent Factory rollout - just got the red Anya’s and they are fabulous. I’m going to try the Sweater Blazer.

      Delete
    3. Happy to help, ruffles - let us know what you think of the sweater blazer. I wish I'd been able to try on in store but they were out of the navy S and I suspect there may be size discrepancies across colors.

I also ordered the red Anya's and hope to get them tomorrow. The Cece's never worked for me, but I suspect that I needed to size up 1/2 (which I did with the Anya) so we'll see.

  20. Well, two of the items I was interested in have sold out in my size. So much for hesitating until March. Yes, chances are they will pop back. Not sold on the pants because of the all elastic waist band but the top is a good value at the current sale price, so if it does pop back I will have to go for it.

  21. Made my return yesterday. The store was busy and people were buying. The sale section was huge but so much of it looked shopworn and not appealing. As others pointed out I am over winter clothes at this point. I did cave to no shop February and bought one pair of pants. Pants is the one category that I do need to replace, making up for those I got rid of. My workplace is pretty casual so I picked up the 9 inch skinny cargos in the green color. I still consider this a win as I didn’t even try on or consider anything else.

  22. They got me. 30% plus 10-% plus 10% ebates...
I ordered the sequin tee (I'll be cute with sequin shoes and jeans or black leather pants), the drapey crepe cap sleeve top in black (under $20, still stalking the ivory), the striped silk pants and the cropped silk pull on pant (size small since XS is sold out for the time being—most likely they'll be a little loose but figured it's worth a shot.)

    1. I used my rewards (the ones that work, not the empty ones they sent me...GRRR...) and I'm still not sure how rewards work if you return an item. You just get the regular price of the item and basically you don't lose the rewards, right? When it's a small amount I try to use it in store on an item I know I'm keeping but with the pricier pants I wanted to use the $60 to lower the price of them.

      Delete
    2. Hi Suz - you get the amount of your rewards used back on a GC and the amount you paid on the CC returned. Sometimes this even works better because then you're left with a GC with no expiration date, unlike the rewards.

      Delete
    3. When I have used rewards they normally just credit the full amount back to my j crew card. No gift card back for rewards which I actually prefer. Again with the inconsistency!

      Delete
    4. Jess, I'm pretty sure that's what happens with me, but again usually my rewards are $25 and I. Try to use on one item I don't return

    5. 30% + 10% + ebates got me too. Just ordered a pair of seavees I've wanted for a while and the watercolor floral tank. I still think it is overpriced but it layers well and will get lots of wear.

I wish they would update SALE section.

      Delete
    6. Hi JessF - my B&M used to do the same (which I also preferred) but I was never sure if they were supposed to.

      Delete
    7. I've lost 100% of any reward $$ used on a transaction that was later returned. Major shopping reassessment after my last encounter, which must be why I'm sitting on soon-to-expire rewards with nary a purchase in sight.
