Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Creaw this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. I did not go to J.Crew this weekend to make returns and retrieve my ship-to-store items as I'd planned. I realized one item was slightly delayed and is still with UPS, scheduled for delivery today, so I'm going to wait until it arrives as I don't want to make two trips to the store. I'll probably go later today or tomorrow morning.

I sorted and organized my t-shirts and turtlenecks last night. Now they're all together in two small drawers, folded KonMari style. Previously, they were stored in several different locations and it was difficult to really see what I had. Next up: pajamas and underwear. I recently sorted those categories, so this should go fairly quickly.

This decluttering/organization project has dramatically reduced any desire I had to acquire more stuff that needs to be organized. Also, I've found an embarrassing number of items that I'd completely forgotten I own. For instance, my local TJ Maxx received a huge shipment of rainbow colored Ralph Lauren cotton tees last summer. I bought about a dozen of them in both solids and stripes, washed them, hung them in the back of my closet, and promptly forgot about them. I felt like I was fairly organized before, but I can see now that I definitely was not.

    1. @Jeanne I also did some reorganizing and purging and realized I have way more than one person should. It also helped reinforce that I need nothing. The exception is pants but even in that department i just need a basic pair or two. It does help when there is no % off in the sale section and the new arrivals are of little interest.

    2. @Jeanne I’m often mortified to find things I’ve forgotten as well. I’d love to be able to organize KonMari style but I don’t have enough drawer space. Most of my clothes are stacked on my closet shelf, and it’s so easy to lose items that way, probably because I have way too much!

    3. @JessF - Same here. I have a crazy number of clothes, but I also have very limited storage space in my current home, so I really need to be organized and a bit creative. And, yes, I also need nothing. I feel like I don't have enough pants, but I suspect that will change when I organize that category as I think I have a few perfectly serviceable pairs stored in a plastic bin in my utility closet...as well as a few pairs of heavily worn and out of style pants that I plan to donate. Plus the jeans that I still haven't patched.

@shopgrrrl - I don't have much drawer space either, as you can probably tell by me storing clothes in the drawers of my guest room bedside tables, but most things take up less space when they're folded and stored on end, per KonMari. Plus it looks pretty and I can actually see exactly what's in the drawer.

    4. I love the idea of organizing my category!! It makes it less overwhelming. I just did a mini purge and promised to give away a few items if I don't wear them this season. It feels so good to have control over my wardrobe, say goodbye to things that have been occupying unness. space in my closet, and love what I see when I look in it! (though my confession is that I put things I want to give away in a storage bin before actually parting with them just to be sure--that way I purge more knowing it isn't final!) -lep33shops

    5. For anyone who is hanging items, I discovered these hangers at Ikea! They really perfect for clothing you're concerned about damaging with pant/skirt clips. I can't believe they don't use these in stores.

  2. I didn't go because I had/possibly still have the flu, which was a saving grace for #noshopfebruary. This didn't stop me from checking the sale section from the sick bed though, but the lack of energy also meant zero want for anything. (I might be sick but I still want popbacks) I have a return to make this week and I plan to make a beeline to the register and get the heck out without checking rollouts or the sales rack.
Also spent some time taking off tags and washing purchases from the recent FS sale, and I was really annoyed at how almost everything was dry clean only. Even the cotton tees are delicate wash. I ended up hand washing everything because it was less work than trekking down to the laundry room in my building in my state, but I am going to remember this next time I'm about to hit the button on my shopping cart!

    1. @eeps. It's a terrible year for the flu. So many people are sick now. I hope you feel better soon.

    2. Thanks everyone! I'm on the mend - even made it to work today and was able to sit upright and not contaminate anyone!

  3. No trip for me, but I have to go for an order pickup and some returns in the next couple days. Still debating whether to keep a few things, which I know means I should probably return them... Such great prices on good quality, though-sand mountain puffer, burgandy sweater blazer (black one from last year still has tags, though), green excursion vest (fave color), green Collection fair isle (great quality, really long, and super warm-almost too warm). Advice is welcome...

    1. @Wendy - The green fair isle sweater is so beautiful! I didn't buy it, but I was very tempted. I'd probably keep it. Yeah, I'm no help.

    2. Hi Wendy! You got some great items at great prices so that’s a hard decision. What did you think about the fit of the collection fair isle sweater? I was disappointed that it didn’t looks quite like the product pic and I found it very ill fitting on me. The sleeves were tight just in the forearm/wrist area which I thought was odd and I hated how the sweater hung around the shoulders. It felt like it would slide off my shoulders easily (like a bra strap-one of my pet peeves). I wanted to love it but had to return,

    3. @Jeanne-justification is helpful ;)

@Lauren-it is! I wish it didn't have the wider neck (so wearing it alone would be an option), and wish it was shorter. The sleeves fit me, as does the body-but I'm almost 6' tall, and can't imagine how overwhelming the length would be on someone not as tall. I can't imagine wearing it without folding the bottom half of the sweater under, which gives me pause (will it look too bulky?). It is so "old school," and such a great color that I hate to return. But I think all the hesitations give me the right answer... I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts about it.

  4. No visit, and returning the two items that arrived via mail. The tartan mountain puffer and liberty ruffle sleeveless blouse from fall were both pop backs and neither were flattering enough to keep. On the lookout for something or use the $25 birthday month coupon for but that's it for now.

  5. Somebody returned the Italian wool topcoat in my size and it came home with mez pic on my iG!
Also reviewed some of the new arrivals like the wrap dress, the foulard wrap top (which i really liked), the paix sur la terre tee and more coming today.

  6. I made a quick stop at my local J.Crew store to make a couple returns and to pick up the last of my ship-to-store sale purchases. They have a very small sale section with no extra discount, just like when I was there last week. I looked at the cheetah print merino sweatshirt again (item H7147). It seems a bit heavy for spring, but I still like it a lot. However, I didn't try it on and I certainly didn't purchase it. ...Maybe someday. The elephant print shirt is also nice. If only I didn't already have a closet full of really nice shirts that I rarely wear.

    1. Just posted a review of the leopard merino sweatshirt on my IG

    2. @Ina Mack - Nice. I always enjoy your reviews. I love sweatshirts so much, including my old J.Crew cashmere sweatshirts (same one in three different colors, of course), but I'm not sure I want more sweaters that need to be worn over a shirt, especially with spring coming. If it's eventually marked down, maybe I'll try it, but I don't want or need it enough to pay the current price.

  7. I stopped by this morning to return the funnelneck shirts. It was right at opening so the store was slow but that was nice because I had my older girls with me since they had a snow day. I tried the striped cardigan but it was so staticky. Blah. I love the striped wrap shirts and may try them one day. Didn’t want to drag my crew into the fitting room.

    2. Tigers! Can't saw I love the scale of the print, but hopefully there will be another whole range of tiger options like last fall. Those Liberty Seavees will be mine, too. Does anyone have input on how they run? I'm an 8 in Ceces, a 7.5 in Gemmas, and a 7.5 in Keds boat shoes.

    3. Alyssa, I find the Seavees run tts. I’m also an 8 in Ceces and an 8 in Seavees. I don’t own any Gemmas though. HTH!

  9. Stopped in for returns and left with the solid blue wrap top and Cameron pants (not high waist ones). My husband laughed that I made it 3 days of No Shop February. In my defense, the wrap top was $0 net my return (& the only new release I was interested in) and bottoms are a major wardrobe hole. Part of my No Shop is not thrifting. I have great luck finding items but necessarily ones I would buy full price or the fit/color is a bit off so I end up with a bunch of seemingly great items that really never get worn. I think I do best working off a list.

  10. I wanted to go today for my returns but ended up waiting for a contractor for a necessary $$$$$ project. Sigh.

Anyway, you may recall as part of my #noshopfebruary I started a Pinterest board of items I needed(wanted) to buy in March. Well as reported, yesterday I found one of those items at a price I couldn't refuse. Today, I was reading an article and sure enough the other item was in an ad on the page at a significantly reduced price from when I first pinned it. Between the price cut, a discount code, and merchant rewards, it ended up costing me $25 instead of about triple which was what I had seen them for originally. I was hoping to spend about $40. SO again, how could I refuse.

If anyone wants anything I will pin it to my magic Pinterest board and it will miraculously appear on sale within a few days. 😂

So, I'm a failure at noShopFEBRUARY, but I've gotten two wishlist items for less than anticipated.

    1. Hi Suz,

Can you please add the Drake's pajama top to your board in that case!? 😂 😂 😂

    2. Haha, the one in horseback rider green (G7445) -- even though I had anticipated it for months, haven't been able to pull the trigger -- even when eligible for a few promotions. Surprised there haven't been any reviews posted on the site yet.

    3. That's too funny! Just take your purchases out of your March budget so you spend less in March. 😉 I've been known to rationalize purchases that
way lol. I need to do returns too but am worried I'll end up spending money if I go in even though nothing is on my radar right now.

    4. What's a budget? I am not that organized with spending. I just try to buy what I want/need at a fair price. I overdid it in January. Even if prices were fair and I returned a lot that I didn't love.

      Delete
    5. I'm the same Suz. No budget, just the lowest/fair price I think I can manage. I have no problem with waiting and very, very rarely pay full price. Only a handful of times per year probably. But I do not budget anything. That is not something I'm proud of, my brain simply does not work that way and at this point in my life...well...I'm trying to be more mindful. Between Christmas and the January sales I went overboard. I'll consider #NSF a corrective measure.

  12. I find the 'thing" I like most about not shopping J Crew lately is not having to do returns. what a huge waste of time...its time you can use for important things.
when I was returning items...I would take a look around the store. rarely purchased anything...
Checking out the sale page in the mornings is not
happening now with the 50% gone. easy Feb no shopping mth. thanks JCrew..

  13. Anyone participate in the "Let's Collaborate" email?

"We really value your opinion -- and want your help in designing our next collection. Just take a quick look (less than two minutes, promise) at a few styles that are in the works and tell us what you think."

This takes you to a browser window, where you are shown a style (I believe all were sweaters), and given fit and fabric info, and asked, out of 5 stars, how likely you are to purchase the item, and then the next page asks you what you like least about the item (multiple choice). I don't think I answered above a 3 for any item, SMH. Impressions were Madewell type silhouettes (with some exceptions), and by and large synthetic blends. Blech.

I like that J. Crew is seeking this type of feedback, but I'm worried/uninspired by what they are coming up with. And I was disappointed that they didn't give any opportunity to be able to offer written feedback, other than the rating/multiple choice responses.

    1. I didn’t get the J Crew email but I used to do it for Boden. They haven’t asked me in a while, probably because I’ve stopped spending so much money there.

    2. I also got the email. Mine had maybe 8 different blazers/jackets and I was to rate how likely I was to purchase them and why. Maybe to help with inventory control/how many to order. Most seemed oversized and slouchy. Most were not for me. (I did the 80s already and I now prefer classic, nice fitting clothes)

    3. I also got a similar email. Items I was shown were all tops. Nearly all had something off - lots of weird sleeves. Only 1 was something I would buy. I hope they make changes based on our feedback

  14. Is it still 50% off in store? I need some crew cuts items...

  15. I received some more items from the 50% off sale. I ordered the lookout/9" toothpick in Prescott wash as I already have a pair in my usual lookout size and love them. Luckily they fit the same as final sale is a risk and sizing is not always consistent. Also received the black watch flannel pjs which seem a bit bigger than my tartan flannel pjs but overall very happy and they were a great price.
Received the Solano wash 9" toothpick (the newer ones, not a sale item) in my usual size and they are really tight. Def smaller than my Prescott and charcoal wash ones. I hate sizing inconsistencies.

  16. I bought a couple of the No. 2 pencil skirts. I originally bought one when it was 60% off, but the zipper was broken. They honored the $18.80 and two skirts when the popped up! I have never had the No. 2 skirts and they're so awesome. It reminds of when all JCrew items were great quality. The Henna color looks really nice with my Madewell Fulton Sweater Coat in Ivory.

I did take a chance and order the Open-front sweater-blazer in Charcoal when it popped back. I'm hoping to price adjust it when sale eventually has some % off again. I'm not 100% sold on the sleeves, but I do like the cocoon-ish shape. I can return it since it wasn't final sale.

I did like the Silk Button Shirt. It's a lot nicer than some of the silk shirts they've put out recently, though I didn't try it on. I am trying to spend less for February, so I am going to wait for later on in the season when they go on sale.
