Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I'm stopping by tonight after dinner for a return. My #NSF turned into an order that will turn into exactly one purchase of a single bandanna, the only thing I'm keeping from the order. I'm almost tempted to return it too just so I can get back to a zero balance for #NSF.

Unrelated: Madewell Is Coming to Some J.Crew Stores

    1. Excerpt:
The brands are rolling out joint concept stores, the company confirmed to Racked, starting with six Madewell shops-in-shops that will open in existing J.Crew stores. The locations — New York City (Columbus Circle), Florida (Tampa and Aventura), Iowa (West Des Moines), New Hampshire (Hanover), and Connecticut (New Haven) — are what parent company J.Crew Group Inc. says it’s focused on for now, but it is likely that the company will put more Madewells into other J.Crew locations, too. At these new Madewell shops-in-shops, the company says it will roll out some of Madewell’s branding, such as denim bars. It also says the Madewells will only stock clothing that complement the assortment at J.Crew.

    2. I suspect they will eventually merge the two stores completely. With J.Crew's current financial problems, it seems inevitable. I'm not sure even that will save them from bankruptcy, but I hope so.

      Delete
    3. Jeanne, I agree. I think there are a lot of indicators that the strategy is to consolidate the two brands into a single retail platform, and it’s really not a bad idea.

      Delete
    4. It's a bad idea for those of us that liked J.Crew but not Madewell. :P

      Delete
    5. I was actually in the Columbus Circle store yesterday. I did a quick circle of the store, noted that the merch now looks indistinguishable from Madewell merch, thought, "wow, this is depressing," and walked right out without even touching a single thing.

      Delete
    6. Cass, I agree with you. I'm finding that I stick to the Liberty products, new perfect fit tees, Jackies and some of the slim fit pants and jeans. That's about it. The new offerings are not what I'm looking for from J. Crew. The cropped & boxy shapes don't work for me. I want patterns and glorious colors that J. Crew used to be known for. Don't know where I'm going to shop if everything turns into Madewell!

      Delete
    7. I'm thinking this Madewell within JC concept is a way for them to cut costs by not having to open more Madewell stores. I assume they're picking select JC locations that are not near Madewell stores (I can't speak for the other 5 locations but I'm pretty sure there's no Madewell near Columbus Circle). It might also be a test for them to see how well the Madewell items are selling vs. the JC items in the same store. If Madewell outsells the JC, I could see them turning a JC store into a Madewell store. That said, wouldn't these combo stores skew their sales data collection for annual reports?

  2. I caved to #NSF today. A really stressful work week put me over the edge. Plus the Long open cardigan in stripe was marked down today so I caved. Honestly if the promo was different that is the only thing I would have purchased but since I need 4 items to hit 40% off I bought the Going our blazer, Shiraz tee and v neck tunic sweater. I will almost definitely return the tunic sweater but couldn’t find anything else in the sale section I wanted to try. I feel like this type of tiered promo often leads to more returns for them. Sad that I couldn’t make it through an entire month but happy my closet received a fairly good purge.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. When an item from a tiered promo is returned, would the remaining items’ prices be auto-adjusted to a lower tier % and so the person wouldn’t get back as much refund?

      Delete
    2. It has never been the case in the past when it was a tiered spend $xx receive xx% off. I would always order as close to the exact amount to get the largest discount in the past and I know I returned and was never charged more for the other items I kept. I am not sure they ever had a promo tiered by number of items so I guess it is possible.

      Delete
    3. Ok great! Sounds like something too complicated for JC system to handle anyway :) Let me know if it works for you this time though. I’d like to return something but only if the % stays the same. Thanks!

      Delete
    4. You always get back what u paid and all the other prices stay the same.

      Delete
    5. @Ina Mack - Thanks. I had the same question.

    6. Thanks Ina and JessF! I made a return today and did get back what I paid in the original form of payment.

  3. Going in to do another inevitable return, yet another weirdly sized top (velvet tie-neck). OT - Received a shipping confirmation email this morning for a sweater I had no memory of ordering. Had to look up my order history. Apparently I ordered this sweater on November 22 and never received a ‘wish we had enough’ or ‘shipment delayed’ email. It’s February 23. It’s taken them 3 months to send it. Is this a new record for slow shipping? It better not be FS...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. @cagliari67 - That is very strange. I hope they gave you the lowest current price, as I'm sure a sweater from November has been marked down by now.

      Delete
    2. Well that beats my Lord & Taylor 2-week wait by a mile! FS or not, I’m sure they’ll let you return it if you need to.

      Delete
    3. I have no idea where this sweater (the striped 1988 rollneck) has been for the past 3 months. I can’t remember seeing it in the sale section recently, but I’m assuming this is a popback/store inventory of some sort so my hopes of it being in decent condition are low. Or it has been lost in their packing facility forever, which is actually preferable. I am expecting a hot mess of a shopworn, pilled sweater by this point. I can’t even check what the sale price should be as it’s not on the website anymore. I will be calling CS one way or another

      Delete
    4. Hi Cagliari67,

I ordered this sweater back in November as well, and then it was backordered until Feb 23. It shipped last week, so hopefully it will be in new condition. I saw it briefly in my local store (Vancouver) a few weeks ago, but it sold out pretty quickly. Weird that it can no longer be viewed on-line. I never saw it in the sale section personally, so I too, am curious about the current price.

      Delete
    5. Thanks R! Makes me feel much more optimistic about receiving it - I have no memory of it being backordered as I generally avoid ordering anything that won’t ship within a reasonable window, and certainly never received an email from CS about it. I’m very glad to know that, thanks for sharing!

      Delete
    6. Hi R and cagliari67 - if you do have to return, keep an eye on them that they don't try to give you a gift card because the order's more than 60 days old. This has happened to me from time to time, I just have to remind them that even though the order's old, I just received the item and they'd refund to the original form of payment.

      Delete
    7. silver_lining, thanks for that reminder! I have to keep reminding myself that when Madewell does that, its because they've changed their return window to 30 days. Even though it's been over a year, I'm still not used to it!

cagliari67, hopefully the sweater is worth the wait! :)

      Delete
    8. Thanks silver_lining! Sadly the sweater was not worth the wait. Nothing wrong with it per se but not a fan of the fabric - so I’ll be testing out their return policy on this one tomorrow...

  4. Did anyone try on scoop neck Tencel t-shirt H6656? I'm wondering how low that scoop neck is. How does the scoop neck compares with Drapey tank top H8628 scoop neck? In the tank top the scoop neck is cut too low for me.

  5. I’ll wait until next week to do my return. Three items from my last order were great (Stretch Perfect shirt in Warm Burgandy, Club Collar Perfect shirt in Black Watch plaid, and Long Open-front cardigan in Frosty Olive), but the Buffalo shirt-jacket is going back. As per the reviews I sized up to get the shoulders right, but it left the body big and boxy. It wasn’t cute, just looked like something I might actually wear to go and chop wood.

  6. I usually go every other Friday but no orders means no returns.

I'm pretty happy with my #nsf. I've purchased two popbacks, the open collar shirt and the silk paisley blouse, which were $21 and $28 respectively. Also, they both popped back ONLY IN SIZE 4T and I took that as a sign that another popback was not inevitable.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I stopped in to do a return ( back ordered blouse that I cancelled 3 months ago but was sent to me this week....arg) and learned that one of the three stores in Portland has closed. Employees were told Xmas Eve. Merry Xmas, you no longer have a job! Anyway, I actually saw something promising and tried it on. It's the belted shirtdress H7680. It's cotton, has a nice side pocket and buttons up the front. I came home to check it out online and the strangest thing happened. I think the Crew is watching us! I found the dress at full price. While looking at it, it disappeared. Right before my eyes. Then it took several searches to find it again and when I did it was $38.00 cheaper! Fine! I ordered it in both army green and black and also ordered the knit long sleeved shirt dress in navy also on sale. And I used the $50.00 spring perk reward code.

    1. Was it Bridgeport Village? I'm not surprised, it was the smallest of the 3 local ones and always pretty empty (of customers, not stock) the few times I made it out there. At least Washington Square isn't too far from there so their former customers aren't really losing a convenient store.

      Delete
    2. Stray Cat - you talked me into two dresses last night 😜! I got the olive shirt dress and the navy knit. I also added the olive silk tunic to my order. They look like classic cut pieces in traditional colors (aka. The old Crew) so I’m hoping they work!

  8. No visit for me - I'll wait for next week's rollout. Has anyone seen an early access link? I saw the few items Liz mentioned but nothing else yet.

I caved with the 40% this week - mostly basics which I feel good about and I waited a few days to make the decision. I purchased a white and pink l/s perfect tee, black tissue turtleneck and snagged the sheer dot bow flats for $28. My SA had them on last week and they're adorable, so I'll try them for that price. While #nsf hasn't been a total success, I am feeling like I'm contemplating purchases more. I want to sit down and make a list of items I'd like for spring/summer and use the list as a guide for purchases.

  9. The new spring/summer Inès de la Fressange collection for Uniqlo is online. Tip: the well-cut white cotton shirts are about 15% the price of an IDLF shirt in her Paris store. As expected sizes are going fast.

    2. I think the shirts and jackets run TTS, I sized up one for pants. I got a navy fine-wale corduroy shirtdress Fall 2016, wear it over bright tights, lots of compliments. Also a workhorse last summer, black & white linen houndstooth pants!

  10. Popped in to return a few accumulated returns from recent orders. Didn’t do any try-ons at J Crew ... I need swimsuits for an upcoming beach trip, and searching for those is sucking the shopping life out of me. J Crew’s swim offerings so far this year don’t seem wearable for any post-puberty female body :(

I was thinking this week how much I really do miss the Style Guides. I miss immersing myself in a new season’s styles and really “getting to know” the garments. I’m all for embracing technology and the online experience, but scrolling through the website isn’t the same.

  12. I continue to be disappointed in the direction JC is going but at the same time, I do also continue buying things. It's hard to resist some of these sales. In the past week, I got: The Friday long sleeve tee and the tie sleeve top with pintucks plus the dreamy cotton pajama set and I have to say that with the sales plus my rewards, it's totally worth it. I'm not returning anything and am wearing the PJs right now. They actually are pretty dreamy.

  13. OT, but can anyone comment on how Superga sneakers fit? I know there some JCA Superga fans out there! I’m a 9 in most sneaker brands, a 9.5 in J.Crew flats, heels, and loafers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Shopgrrrl - it fits TTS for me. I wear 5.5 in flats, and 6 in sneakers. The Superga I own is a 6. I have med width feet. And found it not as roomy as I want it to accommodate my feet. If I wear socks the 6 is snug on me, but if I’m sockless my skin rubbed on the shoe which caused blisters. So if you plan on wearing socks go half size up from your usual sneakers size.

      Delete
    2. I wear 8.5 in dress shoes and 9 in running shoes. The Superga shoes I own (2750 cotu classic sneakers in white from about 3-4 years ago) are size 8, so for me they seem to run big.

      Delete
    3. @shopgrrl, They run a half size larger. The Cotu Classic 2750 is cut long and slightly narrow. Perfect for narrow width feet. Size 10 JCRew for example would be 41 9.5 sized down, for me. Perfect for me. Been wearing for 30+ years. These are European Unisex sizes.

  15. Poking around on Pinterest on a rainy morning, looking at old J Crew catalog spreads. I would love to see them re release some of the sweater jackets and coats in fun colors. I'd love to replace all my worn out long merino cardigans. And I'd love to see some argyle again. I got the burgundy/pink/gray argyle from fall 16 - I'd like something in a green /ivory/ navy color way again. And a yellow pencil skirt.

    1. Interesting.
Very Madewell inspired with the denim (they remind me of my all cotton Madewell cruiser straight legs jeans) and the short sleeve button up shirts look like the courier.
Also I'm seeing a lot of things we've seen before—camo toothpicks from the fall, subtle boatneck sweater in additional colors, etc.
Cute sandals, wearable styles, I like that there's black and not just navy,
The only thing I've wishlisted for now is the seersucker shorts. And the drapey chambray pants the model is wearing in the tie sleeve sweatshirt pic look interesting. Some of the popovers look cute but I'm not a fan of that peplum type ruffle at the bottom, I prefer to be able to tuck a little.

      Delete
    2. Liz, thanks for sharing! This collection seems a little confused to me. Hoping there will be more tomorrow and if past rollouts are any indication, we'll get more good stuff in a few weeks.

      Delete
    3. I agree this looks very Madewell. Luckily no misplaced ruffles or cold shoulders or OTS at least! On the fence about the bandanna tippi - print is too much for me? I am liking the halter striped jumpsuit, the belted shirtdress and the embroidered top/skirt hookup. I thought they were trying to get away from seeming overpriced - $298 for a pleated eyelet skirt that is not Collection?

    4. I love the Miel and Cerise everyday cashmere sweater.

    5. Where are the chambray pants? That's what I want to get a better look at. I also agree with you Suz on the peplums. I didn't wishlist one thing, although I would like to pick up the short sleeve button up white blouse at some point.

I do very much like the blatant rip off of Lagos caviar collection in the gold earrings, but alas they are not making them in silver.

      Delete
    6. I could really use a short sleeved cotton button up too.....but looking at it on the model it looks super thin...not worth more than old navy for quality..

      Delete
    7. Cheri, the chambray pants are only visible in the pics of the model wearing the tie sleeve sweatshirt. Aside from the elastic back they look cute

      Delete
    8. Thanks for the link!

Why is the pleated eyelet skirt, which is made of poly, $300? That would seem to be a "collection" price point but I thought they were trying to go all affordable.

      Delete
    9. @Suz,yep saw them before I read your post! ;) I'm not sure about the pleat fronts with the elastic back AT ALL.

      Delete
    10. You're probably righ, a@Cheri. If I'm thinking of that direction I'd be better off with the crepe pants. At least they can be dressed up. I have enough denim.

    1. Agree JSR. Even the things I do like are just too similar to items already in my closet to justify purchasing. I did not put one thing on my wish list and that makes me sad but I am ok with it.

      Delete
    2. Nothing at all even vaguely tempting for me. The Bandana Tippi is okay but not compelling — I have enough sweaters so any new additions will need to be compelling. Plus I bought a bunch of bandana-print stuff from Joe Fresh last year so have already scratched that itch with summer pieces. The Gingham Tulle skirt is beautiful but completely useless to me. The slim boy jean with floral embroidery is the only item that I’ll keep my eye on. I’ve wanted embroidered jeans for a long time, and like that these are straight and not skinnies, but the price is well above what I’d be willing to pay.

      Delete
    3. But I think J. Crew is trying. They are putting some true white in there instead of the dirty off-white, so I may get the white cardigan with stripes. They did a glitter shoe which may seem odd for spring but the silver glitter ones at the holidays were so great that I got a pair for my niece that she LOVES and is still finding excuses to wear. They are doing some short sleeve button downs which I never understood why they weren't doing. They are doing some longer spring skirts and while I never liked camo or words on sweaters, many do. Maybe in time we will see a library print, a humorous critter on a cashmere sweater or even a bit of argyle. Don't stop trying J. Crew.

      Delete
    4. Amen to that. It's taking something like 4 seasons for JC to flush out styles, bit at least they're being somewhat responsive to what people are buying (and keeping). I do want them to succeed, because I'll be very sad if they don't.

      Delete
    5. I'm probably going to sound very rude and insulting, but I find it very difficult to like the pieces because of the models. The clothes feels force and unnatural. It's very obvious (to me) that they're not the J.Crew demographic. I know that I should be focusing on the clothes more because that is what's important. However, presentation is also very important if you want the pieces to sell. Shoutout to these models who always bring their A Game. Not a fan of looking at depressed models.

  21. I'm not too bothered by the models' facial expressions, possibly because they also remind me of Madewell models, who are exhibiting some kind of too-cool-to-care/emote vibe. I prefer it to super smiley models like in Target ads or the infamous dead-eyed redheaded Shopbop model from years ago (she might still model for them; I stopped shopping at Shopbop because I couldn't stand to see her dead eyes in every photo). I do prefer the models of JC's yonderyears (Hilary Rhoda was my fave) who exerted an effortless confidence, intelligence and maturity.

  23. Meant to post this yesterday but the same holds true today: no additional percentage off sale, yet again.

  24. OT, but can a good tailor lengthen skirts? I assume the answer is yes. Is it a complicated or expensive fix? I have a bunch of double serge pencil skirts that I bought before I realized that above the knee does not suit me. Each skirt has a half inch hem. I think that's all I need?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I’d ask the tailor to make a “false hem.” The skirt won’t hang right otherwise. Here’s a definition:
When you don’t have enough fabric to make a hem or on a sequin fabric, insert a hem in a colour-coordinated lining or additional fabric. For this, cut out a strip of lining or additional fabric about 6 cm wide. With right sides together, stitch in place along the marked hem line and press the hem allowances apart. Then baste the “false” hem inwards. Press edge, turn hem allowance under and hand-sew or topstitch in place.

  25. I like the embroidered jeans - I’ve been wanting a pair. I’d like to try these to compare to the Sundance Catalog options, which are beautiful. Cora sandals are cute.

Not much else for me in the new arrivals. The light wash denim and dip dye are very ‘90s and a lot does look like Madewell, as others have noted. There seems to be an overabundance of cheaper swim, makeup/beauty, inexpensive tassel jewelry and intimates. I’ll mostly sit this one out.

  26. Glancing over the new arrivals, the colors are just so boring. tan, pink, grey, navy, and baby blue. The everyday cashmere crewneck comes in 3 shades of light grey (hthr ash, hthr nickel, hthr smoke) and hthr pewter for a darker grey. I like grey, but would love something brighter and more cheery for spring. Anyway, boring colors often keep me from buying Madewell too, so Spring arrivals = saving money for me.

    5. If you like the look, do check out Sundance. There are more subtle/tonal options in a slimmer fit - and that may be my attempt at embroidery.

    6. I disagree. While they're trendy and they aren't versatile, I like the look of embroidered jeans, including the new ones from J.Crew.

  32. Was this it? I am just checking...is this all? Or is there another roll out that I should be waiting on? I see that the camo toothpicks were fully restocked.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am on a shopping moratorium for the month of March, and this roll-out is making it all too easy to stick to the plan. Not a single wishlist item for me.
As others have rightly noted, the aesthetic very Madewell-ey, which in turn feels overly like 90's Gap to me (been there, done that...) and just too casual for my everyday needs.
On the other hand, I feel like Brooks Brothers (particularly the Red Fleece label) is hitting the sweet spot that J.Crew used to fill. Preppy, work-appropriate, high quality, interesting prints, nice accessories... And if you wait for the sales, the price point is not too bad. I got this silk tunic/Victorian confection of a top recently http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Silk-Crepe-Crinkle-Blouse/WV00842,default,pd.html and this navy one http://www.brooksbrothers.com/Ruffled-Silk-Blouse/SV00075,default,pd.html?dwvar_SV00075_Color=NAVY&contentpos=2&cgid=
and couldn't be happier with the quality & style.

  34. Always frustrating to me that there are huge sale updates in the days after a big sale. I passed on a couple of pop backs I've been wanting. As for the new arrivals, I am at least pleased to see just the tiniest bit of color. In general, though, the collection is so so so disjointed and reflects (unfortunately) the state of the company at this time ... makes me sad to see such a lack of cohesion or vision even if some of the individual pieces are worth a look. Also, are Ceces again being phased out??? Ugh

  36. I’m looking to vent on this fine Wednesday... >: /

Situation: An unruly apostrophe has slipped between an E and an S in J.Crew’s latest tagline for New Arrivals. What does J.Crew want to say? Has incoherence spread from its product designs to ad copy? The grammar police in me has mostly retired but this ad made me pull out my badge again. *puts on my Ray-bans* Looks like I’m back on the force.

  37. I can't believe how quiet it is! I have no reason to shop right now. 30% off full price even with the extra 10% bonus does nothing for me.
March is here and I'm proud to say my total clothing purchases (not including the two pants I need to return) is less than $100. I did buy stuff for the house but that's different.

    1. Me too Suz. I bought zero for myself during no shop February. Jcrew made it easy with very few promos that would apply to sale items. I did make a few home purchases and bought my daughter something but that was it. I have been cleaning out my closet and am overwhelmed by all the clothes. I am considering investing in a closet makeover to help me organize and be able to see what I have.

      Delete
    2. I sold more on Poshmark and FB so that makes me happy. Still spent more than I expected for the house but it is what it is.

      Delete
    3. @Shopping Celle -after my cleanout I also was overwhelmed by all the clothes. It really makes me stop and question every item I am considering purchasing. I am happy to report I now have a bunch of empty hangers and free shelf space in my closet. Also in February I wore items from my closet that I really liked but forgot I had or just don’t get worn often enough. I am going to try to continue with no shop March but I do have money set aside for Banana Republic friends and family. They have some great basics in 100% merino and some cotton/silk blends. I am purchasing these in neutral colors. Other than that I put zero from the new Crew rollout on my wishlist and there really is nothing left I want from the sale section even if an additional % off was offered.

    4. I bought 2 LL Bean rugby pullovers, but I had been waiting for a 25% off sale, so I don't feel bad about those. Otherwise, no clothes purchases (though I did spontaneously take my kids to Disney World this month, so I didn't exactly save money, but that wasn't the goal of No Shop Feb for me). I'll keep at it for another month. The only item I want is the liberty sleeveless cotton tank, but it'll still be there in April. -lep33shops

    5. JessF. I’ve been wanting to check out the Banana long merino cardigan sweaters. I might have to start using my Gap Visa again to accumulate some rewards to apply to them if they turn out nice. Let us know if you try those.

    6. @JessF @Shopping Celle - Thanks for posting about the BR merino sweaters. I’m intrigued. I used to pick up a couple of their merino sweaters every year when there was a BR store in the WFC in NYC and I worked nearby, but I haven’t bought anything from BR in years.

      Delete
    7. I was looking at the merino long sleeve v neck tees and silk cotton cropped cardigans. I will report back on the quality. I bought several merino sweaters last year on clearance and was happy with the weight and they have held up well. I don’t buy a lot of BR but their pants tend to fit me better than j crew and they have been starting to use more natural fibers at least in some of the basics.

  38. It’s March 1! Congrats to everyone who made it through #NSF! My final tally was a single bandanna and I am totally OK with that.
That said, I am not missing the near-weekly store visits for the inevitable returns. But I do feel weird like I have an itch I can’t scratch. The current promo is not motivational though. If they don’t do a %off sale soon they’re going to end up with wool sweaters until July. It’s 50 degrees in NYC and even I don’t want to wear a sweater anymore. (Sweater fatigue?)

    1. Congrats! I didn’t succeed at J.Crew (4 items) or elsewhere (8 items) so I’m disappointed with myself. I feel like March will be easier for me and will keep trying. I’m going away for a week so the distraction of packing, traveling, and unpacking should help. Here’s to NSM!

    3. My #NSF was a dismal failure, so I'm trying again this month. I'm still working on my decluttering and organizing project, too, albeit very slowly.

I'm happy to report that UPS did not contact me about the broken chest by the end of February, so it's mine. I repaired it yesterday and I plan to move my sewing and craft supplies into the drawers today. I need to get to work on my growing stack of mending. I found several items that need minor repairs when I was organizing my drawers a few days ago.

I visited 4 different sewing supply stores yesterday, searching unsuccessfully for a button to match my vintage cotton pajamas. I finally decided to just replace all of the buttons as I know I'll never be happy with one mismatched button. It really irritates me that J.Crew doesn't provide extra buttons with the pajamas or at least have them available by request.

I know this sounds weird, but I've rediscovered aprons. Yep, just like a 1950s housewife. While organizing my clothes, I noticed way too many stains, snags, etc. that occurred when I was cooking, cleaning or working on my frequent home repair or arts and crafts projects. So I stopped by Home Goods and picked up several adorable aprons to protect my clothes when I'm doing dirty jobs.

    4. I rebought the Liberty ruffle jacket I bought in January at a lower price, purchased a dress from Boden using a gift voucher that would have expired and store credit (so no $ leaving my bank account), and spent $10 on a workout top, again because of a coupon that would have expired. I feel pretty good about that. Probably would have bought a lot more just to try and had more returns as a result. Restraint is good sometimes!

      Delete
    5. Would have bought a lot more if not for NSF, is what I meant.

    6. I feel good about my NSF experience, and I'm grateful that the sales were so lame that it wasn't especially painful. I only bought a pop-back of the cashmere turtleneck that I had been hoping to catch at a great price (I have it in black, and the quality is amazing).

      Delete
    7. Thank you, eeps. I did not succeed in 0 purchases, but reading the reports handed in this far has me feeling good about our overall success. It sounds like we all got something out of NSF. I made far fewer purchases and did one box of returns. I spent less time on the website (I forgot all about it for days at a time), and didn't have a clothing purgatory cluttering up my space. I bought 4 clothing items (2 second hand) and sold 4 things. I am pretty happy. There are a few things on my wish list, including the dreamy cotton pjs The American Observer certified to be pretty dreamy.

  40. Stopped off to return the crossover silk pants and cropped silk wideleg pants, which are basically sold out. Nothing of interest. Sale section is packed with no additional percentage off.
I'm not big into tee shirts, don't need office wear/suiting and have piles and piles of jeans. The only thing I was thinking of trying on before I visited was the wide leg crepe pants but they're kind of thick and definitely more office-y than I need. The silk pants would have worked better so I'll keep stalking.

  42. I shopped in Feb, but not from J.Crew (bought and returned the deer popover ... fabric was scratchy and the cut wasn't great). Instead I picked up a "Limited Edition Ilaria Urbinati" puffer parka at Eddie Bauer on clearance. And several tops & tees, a pair of shimmer tights and sneakers from NIKE (my other retail love, besides the FORMER JC). Extra 25% off plus 8%CB at eBates.

  43. I made it about two weeks and then I caved. I spent way less than I usually do in a month and feel like I'm being a bit more calculated about my decisions but cold turkey is definitely hard.

Against my better judgement I placed a sale order earlier this week minus the extra % off for the black sleeveless long sweater and a navy/pink foulard scarf (going to see if I can pull this off). The sweater arrived today sadly with no belt. It's still cute without it and I can make it work but I called CS to see what they could do. They offered me the grey as a swap but I asked if I could get an extra discount to keep it. I was hoping for 30% but the rep offered me 50%. Sold. I'll live without the belt. Customer service is always above and beyond.

  44. On a positive note, I ordered the everyday cashmere crew in the Navy and it is better than expected. They are on sale today for about $60!
I am thinking about ordering other colors at that price. I think this sweater is softer and nicer than the Everlane $100 cashmere. I also think it is clearly more luxurious than the Tippi, currently at about the same price point. I do wish they had more spring colors. I’m not sure how this compares to Factory version, which is $50 today.

  45. I didn't do as well for NSF as I planned but I def put more thought and deliberation into my purchases. I caved on the 10" toothpicks which I just received and love. Thank you @Anne for helping with those! They fit tts for me. With the recent 40% off sale I ordered a bikini top to try and a gold bracelet. 46. I didn't do too bad. Stayed within my (reduced) budget as going cold turkey won't work for me. It also helped that it's still so cold here, so I don't feel like shopping for spring items. 49. Returned my Buffalo Check Shirt Jacket today. Store was empty, sales section looked pathetic with a bunch of one-shouldered tops from last year still there, many unbelievably still priced at $50+ Canadian. I would have tried the new embroidered jeans if they’d had them in stock, but they didn’t.

  52. Stopped by Brookfield tonight for a thorough walkthrough. Disappointed by the embroidered blouse/skirt hookup. The white is incredibly see through. The Black is ok but i would probably wear a cami under. Didn’t see anything exciting except a pretty long sleeve white lace dress and cotton rollneck sweaters! In cream, navy and pink; about 70/30 cotton/nylon. They appear to be a longer style than the ones from the fall. I saw the dip dye striped knit and was not happy with the fabric quality or the wide design. Felt cheap and looked boxy. Not crazy about the new slides either - they were styled on the floor as stuffed in metal buckets and reminded me of cheap sandals you get in street markets while on vacation in the Caribbean. The way they are displaying some of the new jewelry like the tassel earrings - with paper backing, not in cases or stands - makes it look very disposable. I could barely look at the new intimates section - such a tween/Aerie vibe and sheer bralettes in very juniors colors and patterns. Overall very disappointed. Brookfield had no sale section at all so cant speak of any addtl percent off sale this weekend. Not a single person bought anything while I was perusing the store.

  54. Help! I’ve got smells of mayo in my Collection wool fair isle sweater (the green one), due to a bad accident with lobster-avocado rolls today! There’s nothing visibly on the sweater anymore, but I can smell it. I really don’t want to wash the sweater right now. Any tips on how to spot clean it? Worried that even slight rubbing will cause pills! Thank you so much!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I’d suggest a bit of cold water on the specific area and a stain-remover spray. Let it sit for a bit and rinse the area gently without rubbing. Alternatively if there’s no visible stain and it’s only the smell that is an issue, a little Febreze might do the trick until you want to wash or dry clean the full sweater

      Delete
    2. Have you ever used Dryel? I use it for my sweaters and coats in between dry cleaning, I find it works very well to "refresh" my sweaters. I also include cashmere with no problems.

    3. Thanks, friends! I’ll RT!

    4. I would take a lint free cloth and soak it (the cloth) with some warm water and a drop of essential oil, like lavender, or even a little white vinegar, if you don't want any fragrance. I'd wring out the cloth, and put inside the sweater under the area that smells.
Alternately, you could take the cloth and the sweater and tumble in the dryer on no heat in a mesh bag so the sweater doesn't get misshapen.

    5. The main goal would be getting out the odor with the least amount of suds from a cleaning agent. I use two products that might help you.
      1) Laundress’s Wash & Stain Bar for spot cleaning: Wet a corner of the bar and rub it gently on your mayo stain. Dab away at the spot with a moist towel until the few suds are gone.
      2) Wool-lite: dab a little bit on your mayo spot using a Q tip. Then, soak up any possible suds with a wet towel.

Both should remove the smell and any lingering stain without raising much suds.

  56. I visited a few shops other than J.Crew this weekend to remind my mind and body what a good fit actually feels and looks like. More than a few times last month I have caught myself trying to compromise the fit and look due to the irresistible J.Crew sales price. Is good enough actually good enough? What about that somewhat baggy area in the back of those pants? And that tightness near the bust even though the rest of the blouse fits perfectly? Will a few dollars saved here and there really make me feel good wearing the piece? Sigh. My standards are and should be higher than the J.Crew sales prices I chase after.
