JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I want to thank you ladies again for recommending the Stylebook app. I've only been using it for a week and I'm already finding that I'm dressing better, wearing a larger variety of clothes and wearing some old favorites that I'd nearly forgotten I owned. Working at home, it's so easy to just grab the some old ratty sweatpants or, heaven forbid, spend the entire day in pajamas. Entering my outfits in Stylebook every day shames me into wearing something decent, lol.

    1. I’m liking Stylebook, too. It’s been really useful in getting my wardrobe organized (mentally, not physically!), and accounted for.

    2. I enjoy Stylebook a lot. I just wish there were a more "powerful" version. I have a lot of clothes so seeing the 25 most worn items is nice, but I'd like to see more. Or it would be great to be able to query it - order the pants I own by order of most worn to least or by best cost per wear to most cost per wear.

But I also know that most (sane) people do not have this many clothes or this desire to get into the minutiae about their clothes so the market for something like that is probably very small.

    3. @jeanne I'm working from home almost 3/4 of the time this semester and I've been wearing gym clothes exclusively. I just listened to a podcast where they're challenging themselves to "wear clothes" every day in Feb and I was thinking about trying it (but not today, haha).

    4. @shopgrrrl - it's so much easier to pull up the app and see all my available pants choices rather than rummage through hangers, shelves and drawers.

    5. @Toronto Modern - I'm with you on the desire for additional features. I'd like to be able to add a label to each item that shows up on the garment type screen. When I'm looking at a sea of teeny tiny pictures of black pants or jeans or brown oxfords, it's difficult to differentiate one from another even when they're quite different IRL.

I'm sure many people think my lifelong obsession with clothes is totally insane, but I don't care one bit. I used to drive my mother nuts when I was a small child, chopping up her magazines and catalogs to retrieve clothing pictures that I'd then glue or tape to sheets of paper to create wardrobes and outfits. I spent hours and hours and hours doing this. I would have absolutely loved the app back then.

    6. @Lauren - It's nice to know I'm not alone in this struggle. :P

  2. Hello! Any JCA have a 15% off coupon they can spare? Please can you email me at maqsadshop at gmail dot com? I’ve got a PA adjustment issue ongoing and it could save me a lot of hassle. Thank you so much!
