"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Not offering petite sizes in stores which means I have to order various sizes and try on at home then pay to return them to the warehouse. It really irks me.

    1. Agreed! Ditto for Tall sizes. Seems like they should be offering Free Returns on anything that is an on-line exclusive like Tall or Petite sizing.

    2. Wait, you can't return petite sizes to a store?

    3. what i hate most is trying something that's marked as final sale in store and then trying to order it through an SA in a petite size, but they are unwilling to waive final sale. how am i supposed to know if it fits or not? and in general, any retailer that charges shipping for items offered only online (i'm looking at you, anthro!!!) irks me to no end.

    4. Totally agree! I've expressed my interest in seeing petite collection at the stores many times. Ann Taylor, Banana Republic both do it, why not jcrew?

    5. BR and Ann Taylor have been getting a lot of my money lately, especially for work items, due to having petite items available in their stores. I don’t get why stores don’t at least carry the basics in petite, regular, and tall, like dress pants and skirts. You should hear the ranting that goes on in my office on this very issue. Someone needs to open a store catered to basic items in petite, regular, and tall sizes.

    6. I return petite sizes to the store regularly without any problem.

  2. Great popbacks within hours of the end of a good promo.

  3. If this is what we can expect for promos (i.e. none) I doubt I will be doing much shopping. Sorry Micky, you didn't lower prices that much.

  4. What the heck are they going to do with all this sale stuff? Much of it has been sale + 40/50% off for more than a month. If it hasn't sold already, then it won't sell now.

The sale stuff that I bought over the last month were very classic items - Tippi's, girls jeans, tights. I would have bought them even if the promos weren't so huge. The items that remain are either too peculiar or poorly designed.

Not sure why JC thinks it can have several versions of girls coats on sale for $250+ in February.

Not sure why there were three "Hawaiian Sunset" items still available this morning. It has been a year since they were released, right?

    Time for a bonfire.

  5. The website issue where items can show up as available for hours and hours but when you click on them say "this item is so popular it has sold out" irks me to no end. It is such a time waste when you are trying to look through the popbacks.

    1. i think i've clicked on the link to the excursion vest in stripe about 20 times already - ha!

    2. I third this vent! Seriously, I think I seem to click on everything that appears to be sold out and then that item stays up all day. Whoever is in charge of J.Crew’s website has been slacking for some time. If we don’t update things at my company on our website, we get in trouble and we are not near on the same scale of J.Crew. Sorry…this is one of my biggest pet peeves…..not updating websites!!

    3. YES!!!!! This is incredibly unbelievably irritating and complete waste of time. Makes me just want to stop browsing and not buy anything.

  6. I ordered the Midrise Toothpick Jean in White a week ago in my usual corduroy size, but they were a struggle to get on. They were final sale, but because I filled out that Bizrate survey thing, they're letting me return them (highly recommend doing the survey). I haven't taken them to the store so we'll see if they take them back. I'm SO annoyed by the weird sizing. If jeans and cords are on the same size chart, you'd think they'd fit the same.

Anyway, does anyone have the Midrise Toothpick Jean (possibly in white)? Do you think it's worth it for me to buy a size up?

    Thanks!

    1. if they don't let you return it, perhaps they'll let you exchange it for a size up? it depends on your body type, but for me i consistently wear one size bigger in the toothpick than i do in the matchstick or in most other retailers (e.g., AG, j brand, etc).

    2. I bought the mid-rise in white too. They were so tight in the leg on me I thought my circulation would be cut off. I ended up selling them on ebay. :(

  7. OT but anyone has received their reward card? I was informed JCrew is mailing them this week.

Also, my store is offering 15% off towards your purchase if you give out your denim in store (any brand)

    1. Please explain this 15% discount... are they collecting denim donations?Never heard of it.

    2. This is the email I received from my VPS:

Hey ladies, I wanted to share some interesting news I learned this morning at The Crew:

If you donate a pair of jeans to us--ANY brand jeans--
you will receive 15% off your total purchase including
a pair of our brand new denim!
      (Feb. 18th-Mar. 3rd)

I did a fit session yesterday, in which I tried on every color and style jean we received in women's. Being somewhat curvaceous on the bottom, I found the Matchstick jeans in the Dark Luella Wash and the Toothpick jeans in the Medium Miller Wash to be the most comfortable and accommodating. They really do feel amazing. Just bring in a pair of jeans, try on some of ours, and I am sure you will be pleased and decide to take a pair home with you.

      Have a good one ladies!

  10. Not a vent--I had a delivery get delayed (like, supposed to arrive on Friday, didn't arrive until Monday) and J.Crew just sent me an email with an apology and $50 e-gift card. Nice of them even though honestly it didn't inconvenience me terribly or anything like that!

  11. @Taylor- I got one too and mine was a Christmas order that arrived after Christmas. So happy!

  12. Small vent re. factory. I wanted to try a couple of the factory shorts and was waiting for a good promo. With the 30% off promo I was ready to pull the trigger but most of them are marked final sale. First of all how is it even possible the shorts from the current season are on final sale at the beginning of February (come on, it's not like we are tired of the heat)??? Second the price is not a clereance price, they are marked down $10 less than the original price (and it doesn't even end in .99). Completely absurd! It is already a hassle to order from factory for us who don't live near a store but if everything goes to final sale in no time I am stopping looking at it altogether.
    End of vent ;-)

    1. I saw that the factory khaki 4" chino shorts were on final sale a while ago, but now they aren't. Maybe something was fixed?

At any rate, I ordered the factory 4" chinos in two colors in my usual size of 0. They fit HUGE for being 0. What the heck?! I'm wondering if they will shrink in the wash. I don't really want to order 00 because that just seems ridiculous. I don't understand why the sizing is so off. I have factory 3" chinos that I bought last year in size 0 that fit as they should.

  13. Rewards cards take SO LONG. Why isn't there an online promo card like BR? Why don't card members get free shipping?
Another vent: sizing. It's so hard to shop online (esp. final sale) when the sizes range so much! The color block funnel coat fits so small - definitely a full size smaller than normal. It says fitted - so I guess that means size up.

  15. Was really excited to score a pair of Darby suede loafers in black with WFIFY. When they arrived, I received a visibly worn pair of shoes. They had to be a worn return. I know I didn't pay full price for them but I'm still not paying $78 for a pair of worn shoes. Yet another return, I am racking them up lately with my disappointed J.Crew purchases.
