"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. My factory garland tank is ruined after one wash on delicate cycle. The stitching is coming apart!

  2. Received a skirt with a hole in it; it was supposed to be checked over for defects before shipping as the first one I received was defective at the seam. I mean really. They cannot even check an item correctly!!!! of course now it is sold out.

    So sorry to hear about your tank. I will only buy J.Crew anymore on super super sale as I have come to the mind set that their clothing is pretty disposable and only made to last through one or two washings at most or requires handwashing (and even then who knows?).

    Really sad as the quality of their thread is very cheap. I noticed it when looking at items in store at both factory and regular stores.

  4. Haven't posted in a bit so I'm not sure if this has been vented about in the past... year or so, lol. I went to try on shorts last weekend. Frustration ensued. Why do last year's size 6 shorts, which I still wear, fit like this year's size 10? Same for many tops - I've sized up one to two sizes in tops, from 6-8 and S-M. I do prefer things a bit loser this year but haven't put on weight- I am a tiny lady, especially up top. Has anyone else encountered this over the past couple seasons? I'm so frustrated! I liked knowing my J Crew size well enough to order online...

  5. Another cost cutting measure by JC: suiting dresses no longer have a vent at the back hem. Restricts movement when getting in and out of car, etc. :(

  6. Molly, I agree that sizing is all over the place. I've bought several different sizes over the past year. And then when they threw in the XXS, I wasn't sure if I should size down to that since I normally wear an XS??? It is all very confusing and frustrating. . .especially when ordering on-line!

  7. I agree on the sizing issue. For many years I was a solid size 2 across all brands (Banana Republic, Theory, J. Crew, etc). Now, I barely fit into J. Crew's size 00. I am swimming in many of J. Crew's size 00 items. My weight has remained unchanged. This vanity sizing is out of control.

    Also, J. Crew shipped out the wrong item! Was supposed to received the ruched tank, instead received a pair of shorts.

  8. Cass, I am dismayed that J.Crew would remove the back vent on their suiting dresses. Another item to add to the "do not buy" list I guess. Thanks for the heads up. They better not do that to the pencil skirts or I will email carpet-bomb Mickey Drexler.

  9. I was doing my ironing (sigh)... I have been a Jcrew fan for years so I have shirts that are "old" Jcrew. I certainly noticed several quality differences and found several seams on my new shirts that aren't going to hold up long and pulling.

    A weird thing is that the boys shirts I have been buying lately are as good as my old JCrew button ups?! Furthermore, they are a lot easier to press because the fabic hold shape just a bit better.

    I am so tired of super thing button ups, tees, dresses, etc. I am tired of the thread bear look and ready to see some stable fabrics. There have been some items recently that have some quality to them and I am hoping to see more. They may thing we don't notice but we DO!!!

  11. Thanks for sending me the wrong item, J Crew. I'm pretty sure JC is the only retailer that's ever sent me an incorrect item. Multiple times. Over three years. Can't quite get it together.

  12. I've lost about 30 lbs over the past year so have to replace a lot of my wardrobe. Recently I have picked up the exchange dress, the town hall dress, and the allura dress to wear to work. Not one has the back vent. Luckily I got them all on substantial markdown, but it's annoying when I am walking, climbing stairs, etc. to not have the extra give at the hem.

  14. i want to comment on the poor quality of the island paisley perfect shirt (silk/cotton lawn) which i purchased a few months ago but have worn only twice. i noticed while wearing it this past weekend that the seams along the length of the sleeves are beginning to come apart. this is happening on both sleeves and the fabric is literally being ripped away from the stitching. it might as well have been made out of tissue paper. it is basically a throw-away shirt. i've seen better craftsmanship at forever 21. it is very disappointing to see the quality of jcrew items go down while the prices go up. i also purchased the casbah printed perfect shirt (same silk/cotton lawn) which i haven't worn yet but am bracing myself for another disappointment. i will never buy another silk/cotton lawn item from jcrew again. i think i'll stick to basics like chinos and heavier cotton tops/tees. i'll save my money for nicer, more refined items from reputable, higher quality designers.
