Cardmember Email: Shop it first: fall's chicest handbag

"Thanks!" to Desert Flower, who shared with us the latest email from J.Crew to its card members.

The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Edie Purse in Italian Calf Hair (Item 44802; $448.00). J.Crew describes these sandals as:
This season we're trading the usual slouchy styles for clean-edged, ladylike carryalls that polish and pull together whatever we're wearing. This wardrobe game-changer is crafted in Italian calf hair in an eye-catching animal print with leather trim and a vintage-inspired turnlock. Flap with turnlock closure. An interior front-wall patch pocket and a back-wall zip pocket keep pencils, cell phone and keys organized. Cotton twill lining. Import. Removable shoulder strap fully extends to 14". 3" handle drop. 7"H x 10 1/4"W x 2 3/4"D.
I like this version of the Edie too! Not only do I love the shape, but I like this print. (Which makes sense as I already own J.Crew's Printed Calf-Hair Sofia Bag from back in the day).

And of course, this means that new arrivals are once again around the corner! Could it be this week or next???

What are your thoughts on the Edie Calf Hair Purse? Do you like the style and size of the bag?

P.S. Sorry for the delay in posting. I am just getting back into the swing of things from the holiday weekend. :)

  1. I'm lusting for it and can't decide between this one and the plain red one.

  2. LOVE.... only concern is about the quality of the leather. The red leather is VERY soft and shows EVERY scratch, ding etc. The few that were in the stores I have seen are already dinged so bad I think they will be sitting there until a big sale...

  3. Wow, this will look fierce with the leopard calf-hair blazer. Rrroarrr.

  4. Yecch! I feel really sorry for the animal that gave its life for this.

  5. Hmmm...I'm a card member...I never get special emails. As far as the bag...I like the plain leather but the leopard print is not for me.

  6. Wow. That is a very cute bag. :)

  7. Nicole,

I don't get the emails for card holders either. While I am at it I also don't get a catalog.

Oh well....I get them here anyways.

I'm not really an animal print kind of gal but I love the leather version of this bag for sure.

  8. LOVE. I was chatting with a SA about the Evie and she said Fall arrivals in store Aug 1st.

  9. Oops of course meant Edie ...

  10. The manager of my J Crew said new fall arrivals in store July 26, so who knows. I have the red Edie and love it. I must say I'm careful with it, but my experience with smooth leather bags is that once you get away from black or dark brown, you have to be careful, because scratches do show.

  11. The email I received included free shipping on my orders through 7/18. Of course, with final sale, I doubt I will order much unless I know something's going to work for me.

  12. I love the bag, the shape and the leopard in particular. I think leopard is a neutral and goes with everything. (Not sure I'd by a leopard blazer though!) That said, I think this bag is too small to be a daily bag for me. I am definitely not a small bag girl. I think I've satisfied my leopard craving for fall though by preordering the platform pumps seen in the fall lookbook.

  13. I love the looks of the bag, but in that price range there are so many gorgeous bags out there, so knowing J Crew, would wait to see if it ever made it to sale.
P.S. I get these emails, and did get this one, and I am NOT a cardholder.

  14. Alexis, I was going to say that I have the Sofia Calf Hair Purse too... (and a calf hair tote that is similar to the Uptown tote)... I have a thing for animal prints! The sofia is amazing, isn't it? I love this Edie bag, as well as the red one... but I can't afford either, sadly.

  15. It's cute but I can live without it at FP. I've been disappointed with a couple of my JC leather bags, most notably the Odile tumbled leather bag. The edges are (or should I say were) sealed with some sort of synthetic (plastic? vinyl?) and it cracked terribly. The leather still looks good, but the bag looks cheap now because of the cracked *whatever*. Boo! Now I'm wary of spending too much on a JC bag that may only last a couple of years, even with only occasional use.

If you've seen the leopard bag IRL, what does the quality look to be?

  16. At that price point there are so many better quality bags out there, I think they've missed the mark. It looks gorgeous, but from my recent JC handbag durability experience, I know that to be "of the moment".

  17. I don't even look at JCrew leather handbags. Like others have said there are so many other bags on the market that are much better quality for the price. I bought several in the U.K. on a recent trip and the quality and style are incredible.

  18. I got this email and free shipping on my account until the 18th and I don't have a JC credit card. As far as the bag, I have the oslo tote in animal print calf hair and leather and it is really great. The newer bags don't quite measure up to the borge gaveri bags IMO.

  19. Very cute and I do love me some animal print (and yes, I do own a leopard print blazer -- from AT last fall -- meow).

But as others have noted, their bags tend to be of low quality. I have been disappointed in the past and also returned the leather Edie -- although I love the shape and color, I did not like the bag considering the value. At that price range, you can find many other high quality bags with great details.

  20. J.CrewJD: Yey for having the same bag!!! The Sofia Calf Hair Purse is so pretty too. I don't get to use it nearly enough. :)
