Lulu Frost Summer 2013 for J.Crew
"Thanks!" to traderscoobies (in this post)
who let us know that Refinery 29 has a post about J.Crew's upcoming collaboration with Lule Frost (click here to read in its entirety).
I am not a huge fan of the Lulu Frost for J.Crew line. In general, I find most pieces ridiculous looking (see first image as example) and ridiculously priced for what is essentially costume jewelry. (The collaboration pieces tends to be priced higher than J.Crew's regular jewelry line.)
However, there is always a piece or two that I look twice at- thinking it is quite stunning. With the upcoming Summer 2013 collection, there are a few pieces (like the bracelets) that look quite lovely.
What are your thoughts on the Lulu Frost for J.Crew line? Do you own of the exclusive pieces? Do you think they are worth the purchase? If so, please share your take on the line! :)

These bright metal baubles range from $98 to $278 and are available at J.Crew on May 20. Peep the pieces that will bring out your inner Jenna, sans the specs, below.

many versions of the Bubble necklace I own!), J.Crew offers up another
jewel I have to have. Enjoy the eye candy in this post!

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's jewelry collection? Are you a fan or foe? Do you think the pieces are worth the price tag? Which piece from the current collection are you lusting (or already own)? Please share! :)

Questionable Item of the Week: Tangerine Resin Petal Necklace
"Thanks!" to Cousy (in this post) who pointed out an interesting addition to J.Crew's Jewelry Collection: the Lulu Frost for J.Crew tangerine resin petal necklace (item 25490; $278.00).I have to share Cousy commentary on this statement piece because it is pretty amazing:
You know how there are J Crew items that aren’t your style but you can see how other people might like them? I call that Not My Thing, or NMT for short. ...LOL! Oh yes, this necklace is hideous. The definition says "showstopping" and that it does. That it does.
But every once and again there’s an extraordinary item that defies taste, reason and the laws of nature. Judgments about these items aren’t subjective, but objective: their hideousness is fact, not opinion. These items join the Pantheon of Ultimate Ugliness (PUU, pronounced “pee-you”). To qualify for PUU status, it has to be universally unfathomable that the item was designed, approved, manufactured, wholesaled, priced and offered to the masses. Indeed, it must boggle the mind that dozens of experienced people signed off on it.
It is our sad obligation to acknowledge another entry into the PUU: the Lulu Frost for J Crew Tangerine Resin Petal necklace. Please – before you click on the link, make sure your children are in bed and your pets are secured.
...I am a deep believer in the Almighty, but one look at this necklace caused me to fall to my knees and plead WHY??? WHY???
And then it dawned on me. This $278 “pitch perfect mash-up” can unite the world. This necklace is so dreadful ... JCA’s, together we can draw the line, take a stand and right a wrong. J Crew, for the good of all mankind, please don’t sell this necklace! Do I hear an AMEN?
This looks like a craft project, where someone took the tin can full of remnants (from necklaces of yore,) and pieced them together. (How did J.Crew come up with "marigold" as its color?!) The individual pieces are quite lovely, but all together it looks ...complicated.If you are interested in this necklace that features "a pitch-perfect mash-up of antique, vintage and modern influences that makes for supersweet retro-chic designs with a twist", you will have to wait until November 5th. (Is this wait-listed?)
P.S. The Bugle-Beaded Bug Pin (Item 11348; $50.00) is looking really good right now! ;)
What are your thoughts on the Tangerine Resin Petal Necklace? Would you buy this or leave it at the store? Have you see this first hand, and if so, what are your impressions?

Let's Babble About the Bubble
Congratulations J.Crew, you did it! You broke me and now I am obsessed with your Bubble Necklace (item 92687; $150.00). {sigh} Well played.Honestly, I did not care for the necklace when it first came out in Spring 2009. (I believe it was around then.) I initially thought "meh". It is too big and clunky, and the price tag... woah! Just beads people.
Then last holiday season, I got my hands on the red version for an incredible price (thanks to all those post-holiday-lets-liquadate-merch sales). I did not wear it much at first, but slowly it became my go-to necklace.
The red version is great, a classic, but it doesn't work with every outfit. And that is how my collection of Bubbles began...
Next thing I know, I am getting all the colors being offered including my all-time favorite: white. (As an aside: I have worn the white version every other day and it is worth every penny of full retail price! I receive a compliment on the necklace each time I wear it.) Who knew the red Bubble Necklace would have been my gateway necklace?!?J.Crew is selling these like hot cakes! Every time I stop into a J.Crew store, I notice a fellow shopper checking out with one of these necklaces in her shopping bag. It doesn't help that J.Crew keeps re-introducing them in additional amazing shades.
So now I am obsessed with these darn necklaces and can't seem to get enough of them. Am I the only one?
Are you a fan of the Bubble Necklaces from J.Crew? Do you own multiples of J.Crew's iconic statement necklace? If so, please share your obsession! :)

New J.Crew Necklaces {green wtih envy!}
A big "thanks!" to Marietta, who shared with us a few jewelry pictures from her visit to J.Crew.
The first image features the Bubble necklace (item 92687; $150.00) in Grass Green. {swoon} This shade is not yet available online.
The second image features a flower and pearl statement necklace. {Simply gorgeous!} Could not find this one online either.
Both these pieces are stunning! I have to admit something, I already own plenty of bubble necklaces from J.Crew. I am worried that if I see the green in-person, I will get that one too! ;)
What are your thoughts on the latest arrivals in J.Crew's jewelry box? Are you excited about their jewel collections?

Free Shipping on J.Crew Jewelry
A big "thanks!" to ajr (in this post), who spotted the following great offer...J.Crew is offering free shipping on all regular priced jewelry for Women. (To shop online, click HERE.) There is no minimum for this {amazing} offer which is automatically applied at checkout. It is unclear how long this offer will last.
As ajr mentioned, this promotion is a bit hidden. Not even the header for the category mentions it. Interesting move on J.Crew's part.
In any case, it is welcomed! :) So if you are considering something sparkly, now might be the time to act. ;)
Will you be checking out J.Crew's jewelry? Are there any new arrivals that you are interested in? Are there any current pieces you own or tried on? If so, please share. :)

Madewell Email: This just in...(+ free shipping)
"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who let us know about Madewell's latest email.Madewell is promoting their line of jewelry (click here to shop online). I do own one piece from Madewell's necklace collection, the Sparkle Pop Necklace (Item 29886; $$49.50, now $19.99). It is very cute, however I would put the construction/ durability of the piece on the same level as J.Crew Factory (or even a step below that). The brass chain feels cheap and the prongs holding the faceted rhinestones get caught on any piece of clothing you wear (so be careful with your knit scarves!)
Madewell is also reminding us about their offer for free shipping on orders of $100+ with promo code SCORE. This offer will last for a limited time. (It's unclear when it expires.)
Will you be checking out Madewell's jewelry? What pieces are you interested in getting? Please share! :)

J.Crew Spotted in Bloomberg Businessweek
A big "thanks!" to Sandra, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the August 9-15 issue issue of Bloomberg Businessweek, but also scanned the images for us to view! (Click on the image to see it larger.)The page features Pearl Cluster Bib Necklace (Item 31423; $150.00). J.Crew describes this statement necklace as the following:
Classic pearls, reimagined in a spectacular statement piece. Hand-assembled acrylic pearls and hand-set Czech glass stones on a hand-assembled, hematite-plated brass chain-mail bib with hematite-plated steel chains. Signature spring clasp closure. Import. Length: 21 1/2".
There is something absolutely stunning about that necklace! Especially in the image of the article. It definitely would make any outfit shine! :)
What are your thoughts on the necklace featured? Do you like the style with all its shimmering stones? If so, please share! :)Friday, July 2, 2010

You Don't Fool Anybody, Crystal Tides Necklace!
So why is it familiar? Because it is actually the Twisted Treasure Necklace (Item 25535; $115.00; now $29.99) without the "hand-dyed silk ribbon bows" and "twisted chains of antiqued brass".
How do I know? I purchased the Treasure Necklace two months ago and purposely removed the crap around the round glass stones. I thought the necklace had potential but didn't care for the {terrible} ribbon and {gross} chains, which were just not working for me. Once I removed those elements, there was a beautiful necklace left with an unexpected array of small to large stones. Loves it!
So imagine my surprise that J.Crew is offering the same necklace sans additions, and with a hook closure (as oppose to self-tie ribbon). I think this is a wise move on J.Crew's part because the Twisted Treasure Necklace lingered in the sale section for a long time in the brick & mortar (B&M) stores.
What are your thoughts on either necklace? Do you own either the Twisted Treasure Necklace or the Crystal Tides Necklace? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Email: Go ahead, make her day...
J.Crew is not only reminding us that Mother's Day is just around the corner (May 9th), but also offering a few suggestions for gifts. The email features their "totally unique hand-done jewelry" (click here to shop online).
The necklaces shown are the Crystal Patch Necklace (Item 27992; $128.00) and the Crystal Bib Necklace (Item 27983; $150.00). Both are clearly statement pieces.
What are some of your suggestions for {great} Mother's Day gifts? Will you be checking out the Jewelry section? Are there any items you are interested in? If so, please share. :)

J.Crew Email: Our new spring jewelry
"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, Desert Flower, & xoxo, who shared the following email from J.Crew this morning. The email features an array of Spring jewelry (click here to shop online) which J.Crew advocates to "lighten up for Spring with piled-on necklaces with hand-done details". The necklaces shown include:
- Ombré Pearl Cluster Necklace (Item 21291; $98.00)
- Mixed Crystal Colletto Necklace (Item 26104; $98.00)
Incidentally, is it just me... or did the last batch of jewelry go on sale super quick? It just feels like a few weeks have passed since its introduction and many of them got reduced (in some cases dramatically). Not complaining, as I do love a good jewelry sale. Just wondering if I was the only who was thinking this. :)
What are your thoughts on the current Spring jewelry collection? Are there any pieces that you are coveting?

Cardmember Email: Jenna's favorite necklace
The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Martha Necklace (Item 28402; $165.00). J.Crew describes this crystal grand strand as:
Dark silver ox-plated brass with Swarovski crystals. Signature spring clasp closure. Part of the J.Crew Collection. This necklace is actually very similar to the necklace Jenna Lyons had on the Martha Stewart show last Winter (refer to the November 25th "J.Crew's Jenna Lyons to Appear with Martha Stewart {yes, that Martha Stewart!}" post). The necklace she wore on the segment was still in pre-production. Maybe they named it after Ms. Martha Stewart herself! :)
I really like the style of this necklace. I love the look of large glass stones— which is both simple and elegant. The length is just perfect around one's collarbones.
On a related note, I purchased both the Crystal Colletto Necklace (Item 25976; $118.00, in stores for $59.99) and the Small Crystal Colletto Bracelet (Item 26089; $70.00, in stores for $39.99) in Black recently. This necklace is very similar to the one featured in this email. I have to say I love love love them! This set looks so chic and can work with any outfit. I definitely would recommend it.Incidentally, does this email only indicate that new arrivals will be available online soon? If so, then wahoo!

J.Crew Email: Free shipping on jewelry...3 days only
One particular piece of jewelry featured in the above email is the Crystal Rock Necklace (Item 26074; $128.00). This necklace has been discussed on the blog before (refer here). "Thanks!" to TweedyBird who shared with us an article over at Fashionista (click here) about this very necklace.
Wow! I have to agree with the author that the two necklaces share a striking resemblance. However, I won't be getting either version. ;) I witness the ginormous size of the necklace in-person at my local store recently. Too much, way too much. (For a real life image, refer to HeidiG's "The DC JCAs Go Legal" post where the necklace is actually beautifully worn by DinaGideon. However, the necklace is still too big for my liking. )Adventures in Copyright: J.Crew Loves Flutter, Too Much
By Britt Aboutaleb
February 25, 2010
In the spring of 2009, Jill Golden wrapped crystals in mesh chains to make necklaces for her new line, Flutter. She used clear stones in pink, purple, and turquoise, and chains in gunmetal, silver, rose gold and gold. They cost about $350.
Considering how far in advance J.Crew plans their collections, it was probably just a few months later that their jewelry team whipped up this identical piece, with its matching bracelet.
We know New York based indie-designers are on J.Crew’s radar. They’ve just collaborated with Fenton-Fallon and have other partnerships planned for the future–so if they’re fans of Golden’s work, the least they could’ve done is invite in her in for a chat. Instead, they’ve just re-made her design for spring and charged about half the price.
Lastly, the email also reminds us that J.Crew is partnering with the "Fashion for Haiti" campaign to support the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund. Customers can now buy online the Fashion for Haiti Tee (Item 30123; $25.00). According to the website:A little tee with a big conscience: 100 percent of the profits from the sale of this limited-edition T-shirt will be donated by the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, which is raising funds for immediate, high-impact relief and long-term recovery efforts to help those in Haiti who are most in need of assistance. For more information, visit cfda.com.Will you be taking advantage of this latest promotion? Are there any pieces of jewelry that interest you? If so, please share! :) Do you think the J.Crew necklace shares any resemblance to the Flutter version?

Cardmember Email: Psst. The gotta-have-it spring necklace, just for Cardmembers.
The email above features the not-yet-officially-released-online Crystal Rock Necklace (Item 26074; $128.00). J.Crew describes the rock candy necklace (which comes in either Gunmetal or Copper) as:
A bold statement piece, assembled completely by hand with oversize stones (we love the contrast of their heft with the beautiful luminosity of the faceted glass). Equally at home peeking from beneath a button-down shirt or grazing the neckline of a favorite dress, it's the one you'll wear again and again—and again. Round glass stones on a hematite-plated (gunmetal) or copper-and-gold-plated (copper) brass-and-steel chain. Signature spring clasp closure with connector ring.
Frankly, I am not sure if I like this necklace or not. The round glass stones (in both shades) are lovely. However, I am not sure what to make of the stones surrounded by cheap-looking chain. And the size factor... dayum! Is it just me, or does it look huge on the mannequin?Incidentally, does this email only indicate that new arrivals will be available online soon? If so, then wahoo!

Madewell Email: Instant sparkle
The email features the Crystal Cluster Jewelry Collection which is described as "shimmering, vintage-inspired jewels– a luxe way to update any look". The collection includes the following:
- Crystal Cluster Chain Necklace ($128)
- Crystal Cluster Necklace ($118)
- Crystal Cluster and Neon Necklace ($65)
- Crystal Cluster Bracelet ($68)
As for the Collection, at first I thought it was quite lovely. After seeing it, I dislike the metal hardware used. It doesn't come off as delicate as it does in the stock photos. And don't get me started on those price points! {yikes!} ;)
Lastly, Madewell is extending their brick & mortar (B&M) store promotion of "25% off end-of-the-season" sale" until Sunday, January 24, 2010.

Sneak Peek: J.Crew's Crystal Box Necklaces
![]() | ![]() |
As usual, the necklaces are presented in such a way that they look absolutely stunning. However, I am curious about how they will actually appear in-person (in particular, on me). ;) Would they lay as nicely? Would the bows get in the way? Are the chains too much? Is it too big?A Girl's Dream: J.Crew + Fenton / Fallon
By Mrs. O
December 22, 2009
When the first lady appeared on the December cover of Glamour magazine, wearing a red Jason Wu dress and a statement necklace adorned with jewels and bows, we were all intrigued by the same question: who made that gorgeous necklace? The answer proved to be designer Dana Lorenz for her line Fenton. The designer was as delighted to see her necklace on the first lady as we were, unaware that it had made its way into Mrs. O's jewelry collection.
Behind the scenes, Jenna Lyons of J.Crew and Dana Lorenz had met at a dinner party a few months before. A great fan of the Fenton and Fallon lines, Jenna Lyons made plans to meet at Dana Lorenz's new store in downtown Manhattan’s Freeman Alley to discuss a possible collaboration. As they looked through the Fenton and Fallon look books, there was a necklace that caught Jenna Lyon's eye. J.Crew made plans to produce the necklace with slight modifications. It was a fortuitous, though unexpected, twist, when just three days after plans for the collaboration were set, the first lady wore the same Fenton necklace on the cover of Glamour. Though on track to release the necklace for Spring 2010, J.Crew decided to push production forward after seeing the response that the necklace received (in part, by comments from many of you!).
The Carrington crystal bow necklace, designed by J.Crew in collaboration with Fenton / Fallon, features crystals and glass stones, silk ribbons dyed by hand (available in ivory or grey/green), and unplated chains. "There is a certain handwriting that J.Crew has, and Dana's pieces have a bit more edge," Jenna Lyons said. "Mixed with J.Crew clothes, there is a nice contrast." I asked Jenna how she might style the piece. "This is a statement necklace - no question," she replied. She recommends pairing the necklace with a classic jewel neck t-shirt, black blazer and jeans, or even a chambray shirt buttoned up to the top.
These pieces are the first look at what will be a continuing collaboration between J.Crew and Fenton / Fallon. The next pieces, set to debut in April, May and June, will feature the chains, studs and rock crystals that Dana Lorenz's work has become known for. Jenna Lyons said the gals at J.Crew are "madly obsessed" with the pieces. If these first necklaces are any indication, we will be too.
The Carrington crystal bow necklaces are available at J.Crew stores for $295. They'll be available online at JCrew.com beginning December 30. We'll follow up with a post when they are!
Lastly, you got to love how Jenna thinks this necklace should work with a jewel neck t-shirt, blazer, & jeans. The outfit Jenna described seems like her "go-to" now (which isn't a bad look). I actually think how First Lady Michelle Obama is dressed for the magazine cover works best— a simple, but elegant, solid-color dress paired with this necklace.
What are your thoughts on the Carrington Crystal Bow Necklaces? Do you like or dislike the style? Do you think the price point ($295) is a fair value or a bit pricey? :)

J.Crew News: Getting Jewelry This Season? ;)
There is an article over at Market Watch (click here to read the article in its entirety) that mentions J.Crew and its success with their Jewelry Collection.Upscale jewelry shows surprising signs of lifeWhat are your thoughts on the article? Do you agree or disagree with any of the points made?
By Andria Cheng
December 18, 2009
It's considered among the most non-essential items that shoppers can do without, and yet it may turn out to be a winner this holiday season. As retailers across the board are still struggling to get consumers to spend beyond what they need, affluent consumers are giving a troubled sector -- jewelry -- a ray of hope.
Average jewelry spending by shoppers with minimum household incomes of $100,000 jumped 31%, to $4,813, in the third quarter from a year earlier, compared against declines of more than 30% each for clothing and for fashion accessories including shoes and handbags, according to Pam Danziger, president of Unity Marketing. The consultancy surveyed 1,000 luxury shoppers.
...On the one hand, jewelry shops that are more upscale are seeing fewer customers, he said. But those shoppers are spending more as they wanted fewer gifts they are buying to be "special."
...Customers "are looking to be charmed," said Judy Collinson, an executive vice president and women's general manager at Barneys. "They want fine quality. They want things that are beautiful and have meaning and humor."
..."Luxury fine jewelry purchases that weren't made earlier this year were made again," said Saks Chief Executive Steve Sadove in an interview. "Luxury consumers are starting to feel a little better."
Retailers operating in non-traditional channels have also seen strength in jewelry.
Hautelook, an online retailer of designer labels through limited-time sales events, said growth in its jewelry and watch category compared to earlier this year is outpacing the company average.
HSN Inc., formerly known as Home Shopping Network, said third-quarter jewelry unit growth is up 13%, including a 30% increase each in silver pieces and fashion jewelry."To get a great ring or necklace that updates your outfit is something that our customer is treating herself," said HSN CEO Mindy Grossman in an interview, adding the television and online shopping network has added more exclusive designer collections. "We are encouraged in the momentum of jewelry."
Upscale specialty retailer J.Crew Group Inc. said jewelry has also been a "growing category" as it has expanded its jewelry collection from necklaces and chunky bracelets to semi-precious stones and cocktail rings.
J.Crew earlier this year opened an accessories room in its SoHo store in New York, which the company said has become a destination of its own.
"It's a great conversation piece," said spokeswoman Margot Fooshee. "It's a really nice way to add something to your outfit." ...

Madewell Email: Vintage-inspired jewels (to give & get)
The email features the Crystal Cluster Jewelry collection which is described as "brilliant jewels add heavenly sparkle to your holiday style– day or night".
I have to say, I really like the crystal cluster style. Although, I am not sure about that random neon yellow stone just stuck on the chain for fun. (It kind of cheapens the look.) I am also crushing on the Rhinestone Opera Necklace (Style MADEW20093; $48.00), so much that I might be giving Madewell a second look (maybe). ;)
What are your thoughts on the Crystal Cluster Jewelry collection? Do you like or dislike the style? Are you a fan of Madewell's jewelry? :)
