"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Really impressive post. I read it whole and going to share it with my social circules. I enjoyed your article and planning to rewrite it on my own blog.

  2. Vent: the new website design is very unappealing. Too busy, too chaotic, and add nonsensical promos into the mix with the offerings...meh.
My iPad goes right to the sale section and that changed awhile back too. Filters are now on the side which makes selecting options that much more difficult.
It used to be my morning espresso and shopping time to chill, I just scrolled through over 1000 items in a less than intuitive way and put nothing in my cart.

    1. It’s a part of my morning routine too. My ordering is random & mostly old stuff. I ordered calf hair passport case since it popped back this morning in sale. Made in Italy is an exception now for J Crew.

    2. same. Anything I'm ordering now is from last year. I packed up a huge box of returns last night. I have a fuller than full closet of clothes that I should be focusing on but I do love perusing the sale section with my coffee in the morning!!

    3. I don’t like the new design either, doesn’t feel like Jcrew. Things look more like madewell and the gap mixed together. Hoping for better rollouts!

    4. I cannot stand that bright orange/red banner at the top and at the bottom. There's now a billion (ok.. 3) boxes you need to X out first before you can get to the site. Those do not play nice on mobile screens that are tiny enough already!

    5. Seriously. I can't stand all that bouncing around the page. I like quiet. It's jarring and unpleasant, especially first thing in the Am when I usually check.

    6. Reminds me of the factory page! Ugh!

    7. Great points, Everyone. I think I'm going to have to find a new brand to become obsessed with. Any ideas? I spend very little time on the website anymore. Perusing the sale section used to be part of my morning routine too. Now I take a quick look, see that it's still awful and close the page. Everything about the website has lost its "class." Gone are the days I would want to imitate the head to toe look of the models. And the harsh, cheap look of the website - there's nothing appealing about it. What on Earth is J Crew doing??? I'm so disappointed :-(

    8. Can't agree more. The website is a design fail. My best guess is that they're going for "vintage 1984 jcrew." I'd prefer they go back to 2010 instead. Let me know where you end up IslandGirl. Retail is rather uninspiring everywhere right now IMO. Quality is dead in favor of mass quantity. One of the things I liked about past JC is that I didn't have to sift through thousands of mediocre items.

  3. Hey there, JC, WHERE ARE THE MAXI DRESSES?!!! Are they coming soon? We've got new underwear, new oldies, new stripes and 500 other things clogging the home page...I would love some really cute maxi dresses?? Maybe it is too early to ask but I hope you are working diligently over there for a new crop after this latest promo. And may I suggest, a SHORT SLEEVE swing dress, works way better for summer. Thank you!

    1. I feel the same way about summery tops - there are none, except beach cover ups.

I don't know if there will be any rollouts in the near future, but I don't even see new stuff trickling in.

    2. looks like they have made alot of swim suits.still priced high.maybe by summer they will be less,

except the prices are twice what they were yesterday!

    1. I can't stand factory anymore because of the flip flop pricing.

  5. How the heck do you use your rewards now? I consider myself pretty savvy online and I cannot figure it out! It says I have $20 available but I see no way to apply them to an order. I placed an order last week without using them and then emailed J.Crew Factory to apply, and never got a reply.

    1. Last week I found 2 sale pop backs that were too good to pass up: the H0863 cashmere side-slit tunic in black that was ~60 and the H4246 pearl drop earrings for 3.99. Can't believe they both shipped in great shape! I had a $25 off coupon to use since they closed my only store in the area.

    2. @Liz - I had to log in to my account (the jcrew one not the credit card site) then went to rewards. I could cut and paste the reward code and pin from there. I couldn't figure out another way to do it either.

  6. Same vent as everyone else: why can’t there be a promo on sale stuff?!?! My middle daughter has been upset lately that she doesn’t feel pretty, I think because she only gets hand me downs. So I’d like to get her some new dresses but sale stuff is priced so high!

  7. looks like they are going to just let the sale section...linger. silly. and the 20/30 promo is silly after 40 %.

    1. silly has the nicest word I could use to describe what going on..

    2. Today, our store had the 20% and 30% same promo, but an additional 20% off if you used your JCrew Credit Card, OR opened a JCCC. The add'l 20% was good on sale items.

    3. We should try this with CS. Call tell them the store is offering this promo and then post if you luck out.

  8. Anyone know financially how the crew is doing these days? Their marketing strategy seems to be a hot mess and I know they've closed a lot of stores.

  10. Stopped by Brookfield for a return and a pickup. New items include a Jackie cardigan in mixed gingham (small pattern on one side; big on the other); a navy Jackie with embroidered cutouts of fruits in the front (it made me look like a pre school teacher); a striped shirt dress with waist tie; fruit embroidered flat espadrilles; gold loafer flats; blue gingham Marties. I also tried on the side button skirt and the fabric is ridiculously light. I could see the bump of the tag and my underwear. They didn’t haven’t usual skirt size so I went up one and it worked because of the high waist. But it is going off my wishlist because of the flimsy material (

    1. Hi eeps, thank you for reporting on new items, I always enjoy hearing about your trips to Brookfield! I am hoping that the rollouts improve, I’ve been very disappointed lately.

I received the side button skirt in stripe and was going to report the same as you- the material is incredibly thin. Reminds me of a shirt material. Perhaps that would be good in sweltering heat but for me it was too thin. TTS for me. Too bad as the design was cute.

    2. Thank you!
The skirt is disappointing and yes it is shirt material. If it were sweltering out, I'd probably out for shorts rather than a midi skirt, so it doesn't work out weatherwise for me either. The striped shirt dress with waist tie looked like it was made out of the same material (that striped pattern). TBH I was not enthused about anything new in Brookfield, which is why I'm letting myself indulge in popbacks.
