"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. There's now a page on the site called "Major Style Steals" with a mishmash of mostly tops and pajamas. Between that, the endless "new way to shop" promo, and the free shipping, if people still aren't buying... take the hint, JC. I was able to find tons of "style steals" in the past without having them shoved at me.

    1. Sadly my no shop February has turned into no shop March. I have no desire to browse the website like I used to. Between what is mentioned above and the underwear and beauty items I just have no desire to really look. I pop Into my wishlist quick to see if anything went on sale and that is it. The new arrivals so far for 2018 have been disappointing and underwhelming.

    2. Yep! I saw that section and thought that I had accidentally hit the sale link. I will say for the VERY few items that I have gotten lately, that free shipping was a pick-me-up, I just can't figure out why there are 2 free ship options??? Someone said the current promo is over on Friday? Hopefully the creative department will have something good next...I think we have suffered too long with this one.

    3. Hi Rashawnda - I think that everybody currently gets free economy shipping, but cardholders can get free standard shipping (until May 1).

JessF, the only thing on my wishlist is a pair of the red Collins patent loafers from Holiday 2015. I don't even expect they'll ever show up, but am more amused that such an old item remains on my wishlist while current items seem to come and go! : )

  2. Off topic, but are there any factory promo codes out there?

  3. I continue to get e-mails from JCrew about other people's shopping bags, and about events at stores not even in my timezone. This just doesn't inspire confidence in the integrity -- or security! -- of JC's database. Not sure if it'd help if something worse than misdirected missives occurred, but I deleted my credit card info from JC's site anyway. Urgh.

  4. Not a vent but a review since I'm snowed in. Received my recent order which I am keeping:

    - slim broken-in boyfriend jeans in white - finally found my perfect white jeans. Not see through and not too skinny. I sized down from my usual size.
    - Ratti floral classic popover - my first Ratti print since I usually prefer the smaller-print Liberty shirts. I was drawn to this print for some reason and I really like it better in person. The print and fabric will be perfect for summer and will go well with white jeans or khaki chinos. Took my usual petite size.
    - Embroidered floral popover in blue - Took my Regular Small for length instead of Petite. The blue color is gorgeous and embroidery is lovely but I don't like the tie-wrist arms so will have that removed by my tailor.
    - Swimmers T-shirt - I was a sucker for their water-ski prints a few years ago and this tee reminded me of that print. Had to try it and I am very happy that it's a substantial knit that is not see through. TTS.
With their current 40% promo + another 20% off from their bounce-back card, I was able to get everything at less than half of the regular price.

  5. As others have said, the "tweenager" underwear, barely-there swim styles, childish-looking random beauty items and overrun of denim styles now makes me feel that J.Crew is a teenage mall store in which I have no interest in shopping. The new management is not turning things around, and is instead just throwing heavy weights onto a sinking ship.

  6. Do I see new arrivals or I missed a bunch of stuff last week? Items J3881, H7786, H7791, J4029, H4652 and H7144.

    1. a few of the items came out last week but I hadn't seen the tie waist shirt dress - I really like that. The find the new items on the website game is getting a little old.

    2. I think these are new: Items J3881, H7786, H7791, J4029. I am intrigued by the last one, the asymmetrical skirt. It looks like it's meant to be a wrap skirt without the wrap part. I'm concerned about the fabric, as usual. But I do like that hookup. (I might like that top by itself even more though)

  7. Still no % off sale in Vancouver stores. Full racks of long sweaters in bad synthetic blends plus usual long term lingering otc and ruffles. More of a sad vent watching JCrew lurching down the path of poor fabrics and cheap construction. But I still keep hunting the unicorns and appreciate all the jcas who find unexpected gems in the dross and post reviews and insta pics.

  8. The trickle rollout strategy is annoying. Also, I feel like product descriptions are even less informative than before. There is a dress where literally the only info is that it is an "import". That is useless. No fabric compositions, item length, care instructions, whether or not items are lined, etc.

    1. I also hate sifting through the website to find the new stuff because I find so many of the models and their styling very unappealing. They need hairbrushes and maybe some dry shampoo or something. Maybe the sleek thing is cool but I don't care for it. There were plenty of roll outs over the years that were not to my taste but I enjoyed looking at the models and catalogs anyway. I have the same issues with Zara but that fits their image and it works for them, it seems so weird to find it at J Crew. It's like all of the older J Crew models decamped and set up shop inside my Boden catalog instead and now J Crew looks like Zara with a different name.

    2. The J Crew models also ruin my shopping experience. Sick of the disheveled tomboy stoned look.

  9. I have so many questions about item H7158... The more urgent of them are (1)Why? (2) How did this item actually make it to production?!

    1. The Italian leather/canvas bag J0314 is darling...very Balenciaga-like.

    2. That bow front jacket, actually, I don't think it's so bad itself, it's just styled terribly. If there was a matching skirt or cropped pants it would be adorable.

    3. @Namora - I'm with you, The JC at its finest. JC might be trying for the fast lane for Spring 2018! Come on JC, bring out the rest of the beautiful bags of the old days...I knew that you were hiding them somewhere

  10. Not a vent but a little Kudos for JC: I ordered a hat this morning and already got an email that it will be here by Friday. The snow might slow things down but I'm noticing. Not sure what else JC is working on, but they are getting this shipping-thing down to a science

  11. Did a return at the Vancouver Robsen St store. the SA...did not even make eye contact. there was no "hello" or any speaking at all.
I left..feeling like maybe I had done something wrong.
If I acted that way at my job...I would not have a job anymore.

    1. Ugh, I HATE doing returns at the Robson store...I feel the same way you did, and while I'm sorry for your experience, I'm glad to hear it's not just me. I keep getting the same person lately...she is so unfriendly, and literally doesn't even respond when I talk to her. It's the closest location to me, but I absolutely hate going in. If mailing items back was an option, I'd probably do it, even if it meant waiting a few weeks to get a refund.

    2. This happens south of you, too. I pointedly avoid a b&m that’s very close to me geographically. I will always go out of my way for good service.
