J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Went to J Crew last night to exchange something past return date. They were nice and gave me no issue. Customer service in stores is pretty good. Nothing to buy though. Total snooze fest and no extra off clearance.

starting to think my gamble of buying some sale items and hoping for a price adjustment isn't going to pay off. I think there should be a small rollout next week?

    2. I think there will be a new small roll out or at least more new items showing up. I have been looking for one of the preview shirts that was not on this roll out. Saw it in a store over the weekend - but they could not locate the item online! Finally found out it is set to show up on the website "soon." Short sleeve button up in dark chambray. Hoping petite sizes materialize since I recall seeing that on the preview.

    3. Anne, that's what I did on 3/02 and the clock is ticking! I can say with certainty I do not want any of the items without an additional discount.

    4. I have mixed feelings about this. No good promos = no temptation to buy things I don’t need.

  3. Ordered some new colors of the perfect fit tee. For some reason, my usual size small was too big in the deep berry and smoky beige. Wondering if I should reorder in an XS? The new gray color, however, fit as expected. I have these tees in every color so definitely noticed the difference in fit.

  4. Does anyone feel the fit of the 8 inch toothpick has changed in the waist since the ones where they removed the brown j crew leather patch off the back of the pants. I do...totally different fit. Tighter waist and much lower...Won't be able to buy them but good thing still found a few old version mixed in but once those are gone thats it

  5. you know... i'm sitting here (slightly bored at work) and i'm looking at my finances and what i spent lately on clothes... and thinking about what's sitting in my closet and the order i have waitlisted... and i guess i'm just in a reevaluating things mode, but i think i might actually cancel the waitlisted order, just buy something small to use up my $30 gift card and call it a day... i'm tired of the games stores play with discounts and codes and changing their styles and sizing to where i have to buy multiple items in multiple sizes and ask for price adjustments and it's just so tiring. i'd rather just spend my money on other things.

    1. I am totally with you! Feeling the exact same way. I had a meeting with my financial planner recently and I am excited to be focused on saving rather than spending. I have soooo many items in my closet that I love but rarely wear. I do not need any more clothes and need to enjoy what I already own. I have found that I so easily get caught up in the "excitement" of a roll out of new clothes or new sale items. I need to force myself to pause and think about what I already have (which in many cases I already own something similar) before I complete the purchase. The pressure to be a good consumer is relentless and hard to resist. I want to take a break from the shopping cycle and put my energy to better use (like planning how to wear all of the beautiful clothes I already own). I am not planning an all out shopping ban but will be taking a hard look at my closet to see what I really need. And let's face it, I don't really need anything - these are definitely more in the want category but I think will ultimately help me make better use of what I already own in terms of being able to easily put outfits together. At the moment, there are really just two items that I would like to fill those gaps. I will focus on that shopping goal and my other savings goal for now!

  6. Anyone know if there is any % off sale in any Madewell stores? TIA!

    1. Malvina, I’m not sure about % off sale items in-store but they did start 15% off today for Madewell Insiders (and 20% off for Icon status). Their is no code, the discount is applied at checkout. I think I saw that it runs through Monday.

  7. OT - can anyone please recommend a sweater shaver? I have tried two and returned them to Amazon. They were both highly rated, the last one I purchased was "Amazon's Choice". It worked well on one less plush sweater I have, but nothing else and I even took the protective depth control thing off. I had the most amazing one when I was a teenager! Ahhh, they don't make things like they used to...

    1. I use the Laundress of NY sweatercomb and it works really well:

    2. I second Ina’s recommendation. I have the Laundress Sweatercomb as well and it has worked well for me.

    3. I also have the Laundress comb, and it works well. Sometimes I am a bit lazy, though, and prefer an electric sweater shaver. I've had a Evercare Small Fabric Shaver for a 4 years, and it works very well, although you need to empty it a fair bit, and it is battery operated. Also a bit noisy for what it is. For the record, I've never put holes in a garment with it, YMMV!

Good Housekeeping has rated it well:

I also see that there is a large version that is well reviewed on Amazon. I may order that and give it a go!

    4. Nope! The Laundress sweater comb is a bit too course. But this is amazing: https://www.thegrommet.com/gleener-ultimate-fuzz-remover-8751
The medium comb works so well on cashmere and blends without snagging, and the velvet brush finishes up so well. I've revived all my "dream" yarn sweaters that I was ready to give away.

    5. Thanks for the info about the ultimate fuzz remover @sarah. The Laundress comb doesn't work well for me either.

    6. Thank you all so much for your detailed replies. I am actually going to order the sweater comb, the gleemer and the evercare shaver. Why mess around, I want to get these fuzz balls OFF.

    7. Cheritheberry, lol -- those fuzz balls don't stand a chance against you!

Sarah, I've been curious about the gleaner comb for a while. Might have to triple arm myself just like Cheri, lol.

  8. I placed an order (still on it's way so nothing to review) and 24 hours later I've got email "We miss you, here is $25 off $100+free shipping code". Just a few minutes ago I got another email with 'Your shopping bag is very full" with items from the order (48+ hours after order was placed). Either they send that to everyone or it takes a bit too long to update what's needs to be updated.

    1. I received one of those “look what happened in Your shopping bag emails” stating two items were now on sale. I had purchased the items already, they had been received and I was returning them the same weekend I received that email. Their technology really is terrible.

  9. If I may ask, what exactly is Wallace & Barnes? Did this start out as an independent company, or is it merely a fabrication by the Crew ad department meant to conjure up images of thatched rooves while rolling through the Cotswolds of England?

    1. Honestly, I never thought about it myself but I did find this article that explains it:

  10. I really, really, really hate those ridiculous shopping bag e-mails. No, I did not “forget” to buy the item I left in the shopping bag and nagging me won’t convince me to make a purchase.

    1. Yes! And it seems like much of the time, I didn't add that item to my cart in the first place...?
