Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Yay, my 1984 rugby shirt (ordered it months ago, backordered till Dec, but didn't want to miss out) shipped! On the other hand the Harlow cardigan with velvet trim that I ordered a few day ago, got cancelled:-(
And yesterday the plaid belted puffer jacket popped back in my size. Fingers crossed it ships.

  2. I think I'm done for the year with JCrew. I'm doing a girl's day with my friend next week and we night hit up the mall but, honestly, I'm shopped out and annoyed enough that I'll wait till next year for any more crew stuff.

    1. Me three. I was so excited when I came across a J.Crew gift card I’d forgotten about in my sock drawer. It must be from a return I did 2-3 years ago at least. Then I realized there isn’t anything I want to buy even with my “free” money. I grabbed 3 popbacks on Black Friday, but nothing since despite an increase in promotions.

  3. Not going this weekend for once and that’s a good thing! Means I’m not returning anything I’ve received. Never thought not going to a store would actually mean good news.

  4. Hi JCA's. I have a kind of strange request. I took my beloved Chateau Patka to the dry cleaners in the beginning of the summer and haven't worn it until this week. Halfway through the first day of wearing it I noticed the faux fur trim hood was missing. I contacted the dry cleaners but since it was months ago it seems to be long gone. I know there are some people out there who are not into the fur on the hood. Is there anyone out there willing to part with theirs? I will gladly pay for it plus shipping. Mine is a size 8 if that matters. Since it snaps on I am not sure it all sizes are uniform. Please feel free to email me jessfritch at hotmail dot com or leave a comment here. Thanks!

    1. Hi Jess, you might want to mention the colour of your Chateau Parka, as the fur collar has wool trim in the same colour as the coat, which attaches to the parka. HTH, and good luck!

  6. I am going to return three funnelneck blouses (2, 4, 2T guess not meant to be), one perfect tartan shirt (keeping the 2T), two chino skirts, a star jumpsuit, red and white striped t-neck dress, and the black croc heel (I was in between sizes on this one, very disappointing).

On a happy note, I was able to get a camo tippi and star pants on popback at 4 am this morning. Whee!

now they do a update with no extra %. this makes me very irritated...so I did not even look this morning...

    3. You can always call and ask for a PA once a code is released. Chances are they will offer a % off sale within the next 7 days...

      Delete
    4. Yes, I ordered a sale sweater and will hope for an additional %. Do you know if it is from purchase, ship or receive date?

      Delete
    5. Stores have 40% off sale. Called CS this morning for a PA & no problem.

      Delete
    6. @Muffin The clock starts ticking once the item ships. But you can call CS today if you don't want to wait for an online %off sale promo.

      Delete
    7. Good to know Mygoddy, I'll call later tonight before there is an online % off and they get bombarded

      Delete
    8. Mygoody, thanks for the info! I just assumed you needed to wait for the online promo not one that was just in store. I will give CS a call later this morning!

      Delete
    9. It worked! CS actually called my local store to verify and then applied the extra 40%. Seems easier to run the same promos but that would make too much sense!

      Delete
  7. I'm sure this has been answered before but I can't find it. I received one of the $25 off cards in the mail and actually want to buy a few things. Would I be able to use both this and the current 40% off somehow?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. In store you can combine. If you order on line you will need to call or email customer service and have them apply the $25.

      Delete
    2. yes - i did livechat on the site and they upgraded me 3 day shipping (just ask!)

      Delete
    3. When I called CS, they told me I couldn’t combine the 40% and the 25$! Ugh. So frustrating. I’m going to call back to see if they will apply it.

      Delete
    4. I also called, and the CS rep I spoke with told me you cannot apply the $25 off card to any item marked "Excluded from Promotions."

      Delete
    5. I just got a $25 off code for taking a survey (which I totally forgot about)... Wonder if the same applies.

      Delete
    6. Some of the items that have been excluded are no longer marked as such (for instance, the open-front sweater blazer, which I was just able to order for 40% off with the time2give promo). I was also able to use my $25 off survey code, because it enters as a gift card. I could not use my $25 off a next purchase card (even after calling CS) because, according to the CS rep I spoke with, that code cannot be combined with other promos.

      Delete
    7. I called CS today and was able to get a price adjustment because I had one of the 15% coupons I got with an online order. It could be used with the 40% off. CS was very nice and I saved $27! Whoop whoop!

  9. Wanted to report back on the Factory sweatshirt with the Tartan ruffle neck and sleeves. I purchased my regular size small and wish I would have sized up. It fits but if it shrinks at all it is going to uncomfortably short on me. The 100% cotton material is not a super soft cotton on the outside but the inside is fine. It really is cute on. If you can catch one on pop back or in store I would size up. Wearing it with my new BR factory skinny jeans and some knee high black boots for a casual Friday at work.

    1. Yes--I meant to chime in on this, too. I sized down, as I usually do at Factory, and it was too snug. it's short and a little boxy and it is not stretchy. I really liked it, though, so I bought it in my regular/slightly larger of my two sizes. -lep33shops

  12. Saw a preview of the january rollout.
It was just a small one and it contained a trench denim dress,a tee with “love first” ,striped cropped wide legged pants (similiar to the Rayner jeans that i have and love). Also a new print (Ratti?) that is in a neutral camel tone with flowers and horses on it (if i saw the small print correctly).
My favorite thing was a bag that had a cool shape with rings as handles.

  20. I am so confused. I just bought a pair of the vintage straight jeans (coastline wash) in a petite size, which arrived today. The tag says 8" toothpicks! I compared the style number on the tag and the label to that on the site - and it certainly matches. Sooo, the petite ladies get toothpicks instead of straight leg jeans??? Tried them on just in case and they're definitely 8 inch toothpicks. Unbelievable. These are going back.

  21. Following up on a previous review- I received the lace top with pleats in my larger size 0 and it def fits better than the 00 but I still worry that it's short on me (5'7") when I lift my arms. The sleeves and the body were a bit longer in my larger size and the arms no longer felt tight which was good. It's a lovely top but I'm still on the fence. Other jcas mentioned worrying about caring for the pleats and I'm wondering how they'll fare as well. The fit doesn't look relaxed/boxy on me like in the model pic and I'm small chested so I'm wondering if the model sized up. I'll have to try it again when I have more time.

  24. I have a question about the sizing for the tiger print academy loafers, which seem to be on sale now. Did anyone find they had to size down on these? I'm usually a size 6 in J Crew shoes, with some exceptions where a 6 was too large, and I saw one of the reviews for them said they had to size down half a size. There's no size 6 left anyway, but there is a 5.5 for now. I haven't had a chance to try on any of the academy loafers available in-store yet, though I'm not sure how they'd compare to the tiger ones anyway.

I was considering ordering a tall because I have a longish torso (5'7") which I've never done before so I wondering if that would make the v neck even lower? Thank you, I'm trying to avoid returns as it's expensive in Canada.

    2. thanks for the shout out Michelle :) Jan - the wrap is a faux wrap on the top so it doesn't flap open at all. I have the regular length one and it is a tad short so I'm not sure how the tall would fare with the V-neck. It does run small - I can do a 4/6 in blouses and the 6 in this just fit. I have a big credit now. The only thing I ended up keeping are the street boots and they killed my feet. Not sure if I should keep trying or just see if I can get my money back instead.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Suz, I think you have the same problem with a lot of Everlane that I do - much of it is a bit too young hipster. I find items to love, like my recent purchase of the v neck cashmere sweater. I got the pull on Japanese go weave skirt and that was a hit. I don't order pants, I don't order a lot of tops and sweaters since so many are cropped. My friends whose aesthetic tilts more toward that style love Everlane. It's never going to be a one-stop shop for me though I do find certain things that suit me. The micro rib tees are another surprise love. I wear them constantly to the point that I'm considering buying back ups.

      Delete
    2. That's funny. I don't think any of the pants I tried were hipster, they just didn't fit well or flatter me. I'll sit on the credit awhile and hope to find something I love.

      Delete
    3. I have found the quality and finish lacking in much of Everlane’s clothing. Apart from the fact that things arrive wrinkled and badly packaged in the name of eco-friendliness, I haven’t found the cuts to be well done, the tailoring to be average, and no real special attention to finishing touches. It’s a brand with a very good marketing strategy and product lines that aim to take over your wardrobe as long as you’re ok with kind of hitting the mark. Sometimes their attention to detail coincides with my expectations, but equally many times it does not. It all made sense to me when I read that they don’t actually have a very experienced design team. The founder and his team make a first prototype launch (eg the Square shirt) and then fine tune it over time, rather than aiming for the best from the get go. Yes fabrics & materials might be sourced in Italy, but somewhere along the way, the human design content is very important too. Their shoes have been my best purchases - sorry to hear that the street boots have been so uncomfortable for you. In my experience that’s another rookie move: whenever a boutique or brand has ankle boots that eat at the ankles or give giant heel blisters, it tells you that their design process wasn’t so great. I have a pair of zadig boots with buttons up the side that literally gouge out my ankles when I wear them bc the inside finish is appalling and there’s a wedge of stiff cardboard or leather that sticks into my ankle when I walk. I was excited about thentipped silk shirt at Everlane and it fit fine. But then I realized that the tipping failed to go down the button placket and the buttons were white and jarring against the wine silk and realized I didn’t want to pay $100 for a simple shirt with collar and cuffs tipped. That’s what I mean: they’ll show you their math and awe you, but you don’t get design details either. That’s my considered opinion, and experience. I realise others will still enjoy Everlane and I have no objection to that.

    6. I am more curious to try cuyanas handbags, and also keep seeing new small concerns on insta, like myarmadio and mlouye that are entering the fray. 31. I stopped in today but didn't have to have anything. Tried the Chamonix Tippi. Cute. I thought it ran a bit large for a Tippi.

Also tried a plaid shirting material blouse with gold embroidery. I liked the feel of it, but it's function would be very limited, and I didn't love the look of the flaired out body from the yoke in the back.

Also tried a bright green lambswool sweater with buttons down the sides. I loved the happy color. The buttons were sweet. It looked a bit worn already, though, and while the cropped length was mostly alright, it was just a bit too wide in the body to be flattering. I have shape to compliment and this didn't help.

I moved on to Sale and found the Chino trench skirt I had been wanting in my size. It ran way too small, and was too long, and just did not look right on me. I left with nothing.

My store had an extra 40 off sale. I called CS tonight and asked if I could apply that to online items, and was told no. So, not purchase there, either.

    1. I don't understand why they make it so hard for us to buy the stuff they need to get rid of. I called CS as well and asked if they'd honor the in-store sale promo for online sales purchases, and I was told they would if they could verify the particular store's sale promo. Basically, they'd have to call the particular store and see if they were indeed doing the 40% off sale. Which is different from what you were told. Since I called at 10pm last night, they said they wouldn't be able to verify with any stores so I could buy online and call in the morning for them to verify. Too much work to buy stuff, I just gave up and let my cart go.

I love the blogs for outfit ideas, but so much of the "new" stuff looks like what I already have. 1. Hi sarah, thanks for sharing. This was a great read, in particular:

"Once I got the hang of giving shopping up, it wasn’t much of a trick. The trickier part was living with the startling abundance that had become glaringly obvious when I stopped trying to get more."

Agreed that the "new" stuff that I gravitate toward often looks a lot like the pieces already in my closet. The trendier stuff doesn't really speak to me. Lately, I've felt more like I have to snatch up what I want while I can because JC's future feels so uncertain...but this is more like backups of beloved items instead of new arrivals.

    2. Thanks for sharing this, it sums up a lot of what I’ve been feeling lately. I especially identified with needing to not just give up buying, but give up shopping overall. It’s such a habit for me, and though I’m great at keeping costs in check, online shopping makes it possible to get so many bargains that my closet is overflowing.

    3. Loved reading this. Thanks for sharing it, Sarah.
Giving up shopping is something of done from time to time over the years. Sometimes it's felt like a lonely endeavor, shopping has a social aspect to it, too. I appreciate the extra motivation that reading this article gives me.

    4. I enjoyed this article as well. I felt the over abundance this weekend while getting ready for a holiday party. How many different holiday only items does one need? I feel over saturated in so many categories and starting scaling back the 2nd half of the year. I am doing well but I doubt I could ever be a no shopping ever person as I do enjoy it but I also have enjoyed shopping my closet this winter as well. I bought one sweater and zero coats which is a great start but bypassing winter stuff is an easy feat as I only have 3 months of winter. It is going to be more difficult for me to not shop once the warm weather rolls around. I also am pretty good about doing a clean out 3 or 4 times a year. In the past the empty hangers got filed back up again but I am finally making some headway into not bringing more in as things go out. It is surprising how much time a have to focus on other things when you are not worrying about checking the website a few times a day for items, spending time writing emails for price adjustments and always piling up returns to take back to store. It really is a good feeling.

    5. Second that feeling of having a clean slate with no PAs, returns, checking inventory, etc. I'm still shopping, and while I've become much choosier and built up more consideration, patience, and willpower in purchasing, I still spend a lot of time in the hunt. It feels mostly worth it, as I'm happier with a wardrobe that truly works for me and contains pieces I love. I wonder if I can get to a point where I have those few things I perceive as missing from my closet, and enjoy the peace of not shopping.

  33. I appreciate the opportunity to read that article I wouldn't have otherwise seen, thank you Sarah. At age 41 and wearing the same size for many year, just how much do I need? Lately I have focused and changed my wardrobe slightly to be more age appropriate but I have recently begun thinking about the time and money spent on my "hobby", which is the endless cycle of hunting, amassing, debating and returning. The prices a savvy shopper can find make it so easy to accumulate. Personally, having recently divorced and downsized, much of it is superfluous (how many black cashmere sweaters does one need?) and my financial situation is nowhere near what it once was. That article really was a push in the right direction for me and I hope to step away from the keyboard for a long(ish?) period of time come January.
