Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I ordered the scallop neck merino wool sweater from Banana Republic this morning - it was brought up in a prior thread. 40% off brought it to $40.80 which is a steal (IMO) for a 100% wool sweater. I'm surprised there aren't any reviews yet online... I'll post one after I receive it.

    1. Taylor, that is a really cute sweater (and a great price)! I have been wanting a new black sweater so maybe I'll try this one out. What color did you order?

    2. I have the earlier version of the BR merino crewnecks (without the scallop edge). They fit me really well AND have full length sleeves. I personally prefer the BR merino sweaters to the J Crew Tippi but I will ALWAYS purchase a printed/patterned Tippi. Cannot resist!

    3. BR Merino sweaters have consistently been solid performers for me. Also bought some BR wool pants recently - the logan fit lightweight wool pants. They are fully lined, 95% wool, 33" inseam in the regular, and super flattering.

    4. @Lauren, I bought the lilac color - I have been on the hunt for a sweater this color anyway so I bit.

@shopalot, I am a sucker for a printed Tippi too! Currently eyeballing the embroidered star one on Poshmark since I missed it when it came out... seller has it listed for $88 but it's NWT so I'm debating...

@Julie, what's the rise like on those? I am always in the market for full-length pants & 33" is perfect for me.

    5. +1 for Logan pants, I've been wearing my dark denim pair all winter and have been considering a wool pair. Very comfortable and flattering, fits a bit big, but not so much that I could size down. Rise hits me at my navel.

    6. @Taylor - the lilac one is on my list, too! What a gorgeous color. I purchased the V-neck merino sweater in that lovely hydrangea blue a few weeks ago. BR really has great sweater colors this year.

    7. @shopgrrrl, thanks for the intel on the Logan fit! I need to check them out - holding off on buying pants right now as I'm in the process of losing weight but it's always nice to have a new option!

@shopalot, I am hoping the color is true to the pic! I love that hydrangea shade too.

    8. Taylor, I have the star embroidered Tippi (actually two of them...one for layering) and I love it! It still pops back on the website pretty regularly.

    9. @Lauren, I have seen it on popback a few times but the single time it was available in my size, it sold out before I could check out! I feel like I NEED that sweater in my life. :)

    10. yep, I agree with shopgrrrl that the Logan pants are mid-rise and a bit loose at the waist in my reg size, but if I size down they will be too snug in the thigh. I love that they are straight leg and full length. I am 5'10" but I never wear heels, the 33" inseam is perfect for me with loafers or a cute sneaker like Adidas Stan Smith. :)

    11. Great recommendation Taylor! I love BR's merino sweaters and so glad this one is included in the latest promo.

  2. Club Monaco has some of those one-shoulder button tops out already in their spring line that JC was featuring in their FW NYFW presentation.

  3. GAP was 50% off in-store today, didn't notice any exclusions. Tried a few things on, and by coincidence, noticed I was wearing a very old (as in 14 years old) GAP t-shirt. Yes, 14 years old, and it still looks great! It's a plain white t-shirt in a soft, thick knit that isn't see-through, and it won't get a hole in it the first time something rough brushes against it. I wish GAP, and JCrew would go back to this kind of quality. JCrew perfect shirts are pretty good, but they're not this nice. But I'd forgotten what kind of quality used to be available at GAP as well, I've gotten so used to their flimsy, see-through tees.
