J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I'm styling the Stewart plaid Mattie pants on the blog today. Sizing runs small, so I would definitely size up.

  2. Review for the Collection Cashmere Two-Tone Scarf:

Unfortunately, this item doesn't seem to be showing up online right now, but stores in NYC seem to have plenty. Either way, it's 20 degrees or so here and this scarf has seriously kept me warm, unlike thinner cashmere versions from JC & other brands. The knit is substantial, soft and plush but not 'chunky'. One side is a dark color (aubergine) and the other is a lighter, pretty berry color. Also comes in tan/orange and online, I once saw it in gray/white. With the current 40% promo, it comes out to $90. Still steep, but worth it, in my opinion. I wish the scarf were a *tad* wider, but apart from that, it really is effective in keeping you warm. There are matching glittens, but no matching hat unfortunately. Recommend!

    1. Thanks for the review. I miss the days when my store carried cashmere. It was great to be able to see the colors in person, and even better to get great deals after the holidays.

    2. Thanks for this review - I was drawn to the gray and white colorway but it sold out online already. Hoping to catch it in-stores.

    3. You're both welcome! Adding the name and style number here in case others want to take a look: Colorblock cashmere scarf F8118.

@Dmitri, I hope you're able to nab it!

@bythelake, the lone review for this item made me giggle - it says that the Orange/Tan combo is perfect for Denver Bronco fans, hahaha! Anyways, this will be a great deal if you catch it after the holidays, for sure! 😀

  3. Once again I am unable to review the Paley pants. I expected them to arrive late Saturday. They did not, nor did they arrive Monday. They can be in one of 3 locations, dependent upon whether I choose to believe Narvar (pants at PO since last Wednesday) UPS (pants in transit to PO), or the Post Office site (awaiting electronic information from shipper facility in Swedesboro NJ) .

CS suggested that I try to "interact" with the Post Office. Since the post office site reports that they're still waiting for the package to leave a facility in Swedesboro, New Jersey, and do not have the package, this would not be a productive use of time, even if I could get to Swedesboro from NYC. CS also told me that JC has no way of tracing Mail Innovations shipments, because they're not insured. I explained that I am not worried about the insurance because as far as I'm concerned, if the package doesn't arrive, I will get a refund from JC. What I want is to have both the PO and UPS put à tracer on the package, using the tracking number, and give me a report. However, the shipper has to initiate such a search. CS told me that JC can't do that.

The rest of the discussion can't be repeated. Considering sending emphatic Greetings of the Season to Dear Leader. Meanwhile, I suggest that JCAs not wait for my review of the pants.

    1. Do I detect irony?

Well, if there is communication, it will be worth a review all its own!

    2. WFF, I am in the same situation right now. I ordered a skirt (to wear to a christening this past Sunday) on December 2 and it still has not arrived. Narvar is of no help whatsoever. I just emailed them yesterday and they went ahead and returned the order. It will be interesting to see when/if it arrives.

    3. @WFF, you usually don't have issues receiving packages, right? So strange, what is it about this particular pair of pants?!! I know shipping was wonky right as a result of Black Friday, but I know you ordered these (& the originals) way before then. In any case, both you and Lauren have my shopping sympathies, and I hope that this ridiculous shipping adventure comes to an end soon.

    4. I wonder how long Narvar will be on the scene. Regardless of retailer, it seems like they're creating rather than solving shipping/CS issues. My Factory earmuffs finally arrived, 3 weeks after "shipping", but Narvar still can't account for them.

WFF, I hope your peripatetic pants find their way to you soon!

    5. WFF, I am in the same situation with the Stewart plaid skirt. Ordered on November 28th, shipped from a store in NJ on Dec. 4th. Missed Xmas party on the 8th, Nutcracker on the 11th and husband office party on the 12th. I would even have worn it to the building Xmas party if it had arrived, but nope. At this point I was just waiting to receive it and promptly return it it but the tracking info stops on the 11th (received by PO, NYC). So I guess there is a problem or a thief at the post office. I called this morning and they did a pre-return (which means I am going to get the money back and will return if/when I receive it)

    6. Lauren and Ema, be of good cheer! The pants arrived just as we were sitting down to a glass of wine and some chocolate chip cookies - comfort food around here. They seem to fit, will check 3-way mirror in the a.m. The length would be cropped on a taller girl, is sort of low ankle length on me. There are pockets. Love the 120s for comfort and flexibility and absence of mystery fibers. I just ordered the Rhodes Cocktail blazer, which I think will work nicely with these pants. So finally, after waiting since the first week of November, I have wine-colored wool pants. Seems anti-climactic, doesn't it? And thank you all for the good vibes generated by your sympathy, I'm sure that was the secret ingredient,

    7. Glad to hear that they finally arrived and even better, that you like them! 🎉 🙌

    8. That's just crazy, and I can't believe your skirt never showed up Ema!!! That's terrible. What a missed opportunity to wear that fun skirt. I'm so disappointed because you totally rocked it, but I'm sure you wore something else equally fabulous.

    9. WFF, I'm glad you finally received your pants (and they fit-even better)! Mine still did not come in the mail today. It says the skirt was received by the post office on Dec 14. Like Ema, I'm assuming it's been lost or stolen.

    10. WWF, well I am happy your pants showed up but that blows my thief theory. I lost any interest in the skirt because it was purely holiday, otherwise I would have digged a bit. Still didn't come so I hope that at least someone else is wearing it!

    11. @suzhas I know, what a bummer. I briefly thought about buying one in store and then return the one in the mail once herd but for a week or so there was no promo on it so it just seemed silly. I guess it wasn't meant to be...

    12. Ema, did you see that the skirt is marked down now? If you really loved it maybe get it for next year...

    13. ^ that's a great idea. This year I was annoyed at myself for returning the gold midi because it was an awkward length on me. I should have had it hemmed to above the knee and it would have been an awesome skirt to wear.

  4. I need help. Does anyone know the name or the style number for the large black statement earrings that Jenna wore on a TV interview a couple of years ago. They are large black plastic earrings with different shades of black crystals. I just remember that people really liked them and they sold out quick. Thanks in advance.

  5. REVIEWS:
Raynor chinos - a surprise love for me. Waist is still a bit big but fixable. Highest rise of all the pants I tried, and really liked that. Love the material, length, and leg width. Size 2 for me (5'4"-0-00 dress/top/skirt). I ordered in another color AND in the white denim. Too great a deal to pass up.
Tissue tee - tts, good deal, replacing old one
Patio pant in wool - I ordered these in a tall and regular length. The tall hit bottom of ankle/top of foot and would be great with flat loafers. Regular length hit as on model. I sized up to a 4 because of non-stretch fabric and I hate a snug leg/thigh. This was right call but would take fairly major alterations to work. I didn't care for the fabric enough to do this. It was a bit too lightweight for me. Return.
Clip Dot Ruffle Blouse - Loved. Wore it the minute it came out of the box. I'd tried this in the cotton stripe and thought it was cute but returned it. On this version, the sheerness above the ruffle makes it ultra special. Got in black and wore to a party that same evening. TTS. Size 0
Silk ruffle blouse - tts. Size 0. I liked this. Good basic. Returning until marked down even more. Don't need enough to keep.
Harlow sweater - tts but think one size up might work too. Loved the garnet color. Hits at low waist-top hip. Grosgrain trim is top rate.
Sailor pant in wool - Size 4 was good. Again, loose at waist. But these are a much lower rise, which I don't like.
Cap sleeve cotton stripe dress - size 00. Even this seemed loose but I liked. Especially at $35!! Going to wear with flat sandals for everyday dress in summer.
Linen embroidered blouse - This was pop back. It's a size 2, which is a bit loose on me. But in the linen, and for summer, AND for $20, I like!!
Gemma flat, suede - tts. Love these in the brown with hot pink trim. Final sale at $29
Gemma suede in Drake silk - tts.
Avery heel in suede - I have stalked these. Found tts. Liked them a lot but surprisingly not a love in person. I've loved all the Instagram pics I've seen on them, but on my foot (which is normal, not wide) I didn't like the super pointy toe and where the shoe was cut at the base of my toes. Hard to explain. If they weren't $160 and I need black shoes, I might like them more. But at that price, without overt love, I have to return. Sad.
Cotton-merino vee neck sweater - Love! tts XS. Great weight, love the silvery pale heathered color. Staple item for me.
Teddie flare in wool - Tried in size 4. Did not like the flare leg and lower rise. Again, waist too big. Loved the fabric. Return.

  6. Some reviews:
RUFFLE SILK BUTTON-UP: I ordered this in my usual shirt size 2. It fits but the silk is not a flowy drapey silk I was hoping for, as in the silk pocket shirt from a few falls ago. Since I have several other black tuxedo type shirts, this is going back. I do like the shape. The other sink top that came in wine and navy (and I think a polka dot) seemed to be a bit more soft and flowy.

PLACED-STRIPE RIB T-SHIRT: I ordered this in my usual XS and in the black variation. I didn't realize it's black and navy on a natural/ivory knit. It's difficult to distinguish the colors. I know black and navy is a big thing but this one bothers me because the colors are too close. Since I have many other striped shirts, even though I like the fit and feel, this is going back.

LUCITE AND PAVÉ NECKLACE: I ordered several of these in different colors for gifts. I don't think it can be doubled as written on everyone. I don't Love it but I think my intended recipient might like the chunky size and long length. For the sale price, it works.

    1. I also got the Tippi sleeveless shell in lightweight merino wool. I sized up to a small but maybe could have stuck with the XS. I like the weight and pretty gold buttons but it didn't work over one shirt I tried. Hopefully it will work over the other shirts I was thinking.

    2. My mistake, I think it's Jackie shell.

    3. @Suz, so would you advise to size up? I just placed an order for this top in the fuchsia color regular size.

    4. Are you referring to this: LIGHTWEIGHT WOOL JACKIE SWEATER SHELL ? Isized up because some reviewers said it ran short. I only tried it with the mini skirt in double serge wool which sits high on the waist and the top hit below that, at about my hip. I have a small chest but broad upper back and narrow torso. For me, true to size may have been the right choice, as opposed to sizing up.

You maybe referring to the silk ruffle button up which I know comes in fuchsia. For me, I think sizingup would give me a looser drapier feel, but mY regular size fit, although it wasn't long at all.

    5. thanks, yes was referring to the silk ruffle top.

    7. All the jewelry I purchased for gifts (and some for myself) is really nice. It's going to be difficult to decide what to keep and what to give. And at just about $20 and under, great prices.

    8. I agree, jewelry is nice this season and I feel they lowered the price points. I got the chandelier earrings for myself and with the 40% promo they were $39 which is a great price for statement earrings

  7. My Bright Red Lady Day Coat with Thinsulate arrived today and it's beautiful. I ordered a size 12 which is my usual coat size at J.Crew (I'm a size 10 in blazers/M/L up top) and with a tippi sweater and button down on under the coat it is perfect. I have a blazer on today too but it was a little bulky with the three layers. I agree with previous reviews that the coat is a little more flared at the bottom but I find the coat to be flattering on my curvy figure and love the cinched waist. The red is a perfect true "holiday" red - not an orange red at all. Very pleased with this coat and it will be a great addition to my collection. I'm even more pleased because Narvar is saying the coat is due to be delivered on 12/27 and it showed up today.

I also received the Tippi turtleneck in dark poppy and the color is almost identical to the coat. I have the striped tee with the tulle as well but didn't have time to try it on when I stopped home to grab packages off the porch. I, too, have several other packages en route and in Narvar limbo which I'm hoping arrive by the end of the week!

    1. Yay for your coat! I wish last year's red was that deeper red but I'd really be crazy if I bought this year's red too.

    2. Sweet! I got the lady day coat in retro pink and it's gorgeous color as well.

    3. Slightly OT but I also received a gift card in my package. Silly me, I was hoping it was some sort of holiday promotion but alas, it was an unloaded gift card with a note saying that if you needed a last minute gift, call CS and they will load/activate the card for you to give as a gift.

    5. I just got one of those also Anne and I was so disappointed when I realized what it was. I think it is such a lame and crappy marketing move, not to mention incredibly wasteful because as far as I know those plastic cards cannot be recycled.

    6. Amazon has done that in the past. It seems wasteful.

  8. Can anyone comment on the fit of the Greta kitten heels in metallic? I'd love a gold kitten heel and take size 9.5 in JCrew shoes. These are final sale so I'd love some JCA feedback before I take the plunge.

  9. Reviewed the elsie tweed pumps (true to size, gorgeous pink color, love the wool and leather lining, not crazy about the artificial sole), the glossy leather pumps (TTS, love ankle straps and very classy look) and the snake printed d'orsay (very sharp and unique neutral colorblocking, TTS as well).
    Pictures posted on my blog.

    1. also added review of the lace pants (really cute, they have pockets and the straight line look is very pretty. However, there is an elastic band in the back, similar to the pintucked lace skirt...not a fan but it works here; TTS). Also reviewed this season's No.2 pencil in houndstooth (color is a darker brown than pictured but I love the corduroy and lining details, fits TTS).

    2. added the tartan avery pumps, TTS, very comfortable and leather lining and sole. Am not fond of the buckle embellishment though nor the ribbon, they look cheap on an otherwise great pair.

      Delete
    3. added snakeskin elsie. They are TTS and look OK, I just wasn't crazy about them so may consider the same cut in a different print (black watch plaid) if they pop back in my size.

  10. Received my Jackie shell in Bold Red, which is definitely orange! And my Merino Wool Long Cardigan Neon Orange, which is just a shade lighter than the Bold Red. The cardigan is TTS, and I love the fit, long, but not oversized. The knit is very soft and fine, but a bit sheer, I think any kind of patterned shirt would show through. Thank you to the JCAs that gave me colour feedback on the Bold Red last week.
