JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I need help with an Excursion Vest that's too big.
I recently got my hands on the hunter green color from 2012, it was sold to me as an XS (workable as I wear an XXS in the vests) but this is a S. It's too big! I'm reluctant to be rid of it though as the color is hard to find now.
Any suggestions on how to style it? Any body have luck altering one?

    1. Is it mainly big in the underarm? I'd style it with heavier pieces like sweaters. I think it would be a difficult piece to alter.

    2. Yes, mostly. You can see it here http://i.imgur.com/onjhCuz.jpg

I usually wear an XXS which looks like this http://i.imgur.com/h0nCOzY.jpg

My husband says it looks good. While I don't always trust his taste, he is always honest about his opinion.

    3. You could layer it over a sherpa-lined sweatshirt. It's a sportier look with the hood coming out the back, but it could be cute.

Or any sweatshirt, really. If you do it that way, I would keep it tight on the bottom. Like Pixie pants or similar. I'm kind of picturing the leather front pixies, a hooded sweatshirt, the vest and a pair of Converse sneakers as a cute outfit!

    4. You could even do a button up under the sweatshirt to add more color and depth to the whole thing.

    5. I like how it's styled in the September catalogue, page 17, over a jacket. I am even debating about getting a larger size just so I can copy the look. Just not sure if I need to go up one or two sizes to make it work.

  2. I'm styling the gold plush fleece excursion vest and plaid boy shirt on the blog today. Both items run TTS, but I could have sized down on the vest.
