Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  2. I went to the b&m yesterday and OMG, completely empty. No shoppers, no sales associates and not much in the way of clothes either. I didn't see anything that I liked too much except a cute baseball jersey and I have too many of those already plus I won't be able to wear it for another 3 months probably. Definitely not worth anywhere near FP. I tried on a merino sweater and it didn't look good on me at all. Sale section was paltry. I have to say that in the past many months, when I go into my local store, it's pretty much empty with very few shoppers and almost always people making returns. From my real world perspective, it certainly echoes the staggering losses the company has had. I also stopped in Madewell, and they had some cute things. I picked up a real nice light weight cardi.

  3. Went yesterday to NYC Flagship store on Fifth Avenue. The sale section is still quite big but I was a bit ticked off by the 50% reverted back to 40%. I wasn't looking for anything in particular but there was a lonely Donald Robertson cheetah tee in a XS and this one came home with me. It will look great with chinos in the summer. From the new rollout I tried the Regent in chambray (love, tts), the drawstring top (cuter than you would think, but really a resort top) and the new western boots (they seem to run a bit large). There were a lot of Metropolitan booties in leopard in the sale section.

    1. Congrats for finding a cheetah tee! I'd love to have that one at the sale price.

    2. Yes, it was one of those lucky finds. As someone said, it is really a summer tee because of the placement of the cheetah (a cardigan/jacket is going to cover the cheetah's head). Not sure why it was a winter offering (let's not even mention the short sleeves).

  4. I wish I had a reason to go but there's nothing that I really want sale or from the roll-out, except for the navy Regent. I am waiting for my rewards to buy it.

  5. OT: Kate Spade Saturday stores are closing, http://www.dailyfinance.com/2015/01/30/kate-spade-close-saturday-stores/. I've never been to a store (none in my area) but I have ordered several lovelies from their website. Sounds like they might continue the line under KS proper?

    2. As I understand it, Jones NY will still be around as a brand - but will be sold in other retail outlets such as department stores rather than in JNY standalone shops.

  6. I'm waiting for a promotion on the new arrivals. For those who are shopping the new arrivals this weekend, I posted 3 styling ideas for the Firework Floral top here.

  7. I will not be visiting the store this weekend. I agree with above, nothing to go for right now. Hopefully going to watch Tennessee beat Auburn tomorrow. I did order the Madewell black overalls and they will arrive today. I like overalls! I know someone made a derogatory comment about them the other day but I have been wearing some form of overalls since the 70s. Anyone remember Pointer Brand? I will visit the Madewell store in Nashville next week and be able to return them if they don't work. I really just treat them like jeans and layer with cardigans, blazers, etc. but they are so much more comfortable then plain jeans. So, no J. Crew for me until next week at Green Hills.

    1. It was me. I love the look and I can even pull them off but I feel silly in them. If you can wear them and they make you feel great, good for you!

    2. I just thought it was funny because I had just ordered them and then read your comment. Thank you and I did agree with much of what you said the other day!

    3. Sigh. People so often disagree, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I just wish more people would discuss their disagreements the way that Ema and Doodle Daschund did.
      Very classy, ladies.

    4. I like overalls too! Hope you like the Madewell ones, I don't think I've ever tried theirs on.

    5. I got them and they look really cute out of the package. I will try them on as soon as I get home. I will post a review. They were pretty expensive so they will have to look fabulous for me to keep, the reviews on the Madewell site were mixed.

    6. I also like overalls. Found a pair of my Osh Kosh's from the 90's a few weeks ago...oh boy, they were comically oversized! I like the new ones from Loft because they don't appear to have much distressing.

  8. over 2100 items in the sale section first thing this morning. 1700 now. someone is shopping. I didn't order anything.

  9. OT, but one thing I noticed about the rollout is that a majority of the clothes have a large size run, from 000 to 16. While there have been a few 16's here and there in the past, it seems to be standard now. And after the brew-ha-ha about 000 last year, it seems to be here to stay. For the record, I believe JC that their decision to offer that size has to do with expansion in Asian markets. And if I was that slender, regardless of where I lived, I would be delighted to have J Crew as an option since it is probably hard to find adult clothes that small.

    1. I'm Chinese-American and I can attest to the growing popularity of J. Crew among Chinese and other Asians (both in the States and abroad). So I think the 000 makes perfect sense. I'm a 00 and I'm probably considered average to maybe even slightly overweight in Asia...

  10. I may stop by but did place an order online this am. The Tippi in Heather Lavender was on sale for $35, so the one I bought and not worn for $59.50 is going back. I also ordered the textured block print skirt in two sizes a) to get free shipping and b) I will know if I like it and what size when a promo or discount comes around. Plus two stores in CO are offering free gifts with purchase because of renovations and adding crewcuts. One Is for $125, the other is $250, strange that there is such a huge difference but hey it's J Crew nothing surprises me anymore.

    1. So I did stop by and quickly looked at some of the new arrivals. Really liked the Laser cut pleated skirt and mixed print tee, the store had them paired together in the pink and grey color way. Saw the textured block print skirt that I had ordered and it is heavier than I thought but still liked it. The Uptown Tote was disappointing, I have one of the original ones and it is really soft leather, this one is very stiff. Not sure how you would get the snaps on the side to close which is a nice touch on the older one. The Cyprus sandals were cute and a nice alternative to flip-flops in the summer. I will probably go back and try on some of the other items once there is a promo or discount, nothing full price for me. Oh and the free gift at Park Meadows for $125, a lollipop. I was told for $250 at Flatiron Crossing it is a bracelet.

  11. I might stop in to see what new arrivals came in, namely to try some of the new pants styles. And I'm on the fence about keeping the silk georgette blouse with the eyelet sleeves so that might be a motivating factor if I decide to return it. I've placed a few orders in the past few days as well, the lavender Tippi, tall double zip shift dress, cherry merino cardigan, heather acorn cashmere v-neck sweater and the double serge dolman dress in navy. I'm apparently still finding things to buy...several of the items in recent orders were not final sale so that has encouraged me to try things.

  13. I love JCAs. I don't seek out any finance sites, so I always appreciates the links & info. I'm not surprised about KS Saturday. I was intrigued by some of the pieces, but it has a very graphic/mod vibe that isn't really my personal style. I do like my initial, luggage tags, though.

    6. that was a very interesting read, thanks for posting.

i'm sad and nostalgic now. my first down puffer was from the gap when i was a sophomore in high school. it was light blue and the prettiest jacket and cost well over $150. i was never popular at my high school, but every time i wore it, all the popular girls would talk to me and ask me where i got my jacket from. one girl even wanted to borrow it. it was truly one of my favorite jackets, and i think it's still somewhere in my parents' house. i wore it for like 6 years before replacing it with my banana republic puffer (which i still wear regularly), symbolic of my move to BR and more "expensive" brands. i haven't shopped at gap since graduating from college.

and gah, i miss the old commercials. can't stop watching them on youtube!

    7. Well...now I'm hooked on watching these videos too. I used to love the Gap's commercials. The Everyone in Leather one made me go out and buy one right away ha...so remember that.

So funny, Rashida Jones is in a few of these older ones.

    8. @Dmitri- Oh my word! I don't know how old you are, but I bought my first down puffer from the Gap too! I wasn't popular either, but everyone was amazed by it. I felt so cool (something I did NOT feel growing up in a huge Korean community in North Philadelphia). I smiled because it brought back memories of my geeky self!

  17. Just came back from Stonestown to do a return and nab a style guide. It's now 40% off sale, jewelry was 25% off, and Tippis were all $10 off (not sure if that means they're eligible for the additional 40%?). Student/educator discounts are stackable.

I tried the flounce skirt in drapey twill and thought the poly material felt SO cheap. It was already wrinkled all over too...total decline in quality compared to poly skirts I've gotten from J. Crew in the past few seasons even though the prices are the same. The layering vest with Primaloft also felt awfully thin, flimsy, and cheap. At this point I was turned off and didn't want to try anything else.

Looking through the style guide now, I'm attracted to a couple of Collection sweaters and the colors they are being offered in...but the prices are too much for me! I'm also loving their "rustic mint" color this season and would like to get the merino-cotton tunic or d'orsay flats in that color...but I'll wait for the reviews first.

  20. Just an observation of mine from the last rollouts of J Crew. I used to love going to the store and seeing the new arrivals for a couple of reasons. The styling on the mannequins and also seeing the SAs wearing them. Gigi reminded me this morning, that even though I saw something in store yesterday that I liked it had the heck pinned out of it to fit the mannequin. I get that when size choices are limited but if a XXXS does not fit the mannequin without pinning what is it going to look like on the rest of us. Plus, there was a time when I would walk into the store and most of SAs were wearing a new arrival that they loved and just had to have. I always enjoyed seeing it on them and how they had styled it. Now it seems like they are also waiting for a dropdead sale price or shopping elsewhere. Just MHO.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Management really "encourages" SAs to wear JCrew, but I think they wait until things go on sale...which, these days, happens really quickly. When you're not making all THAT much and you know that things are going to go on sale within a month or so, why buy at the higher price? I think that the VPS's still buy the new stuff, but they're making more money, as well.
As far as pinning clothes on the mannequins, I totally agree. I was looking at the Ryder pants and thinking that they hung completely different on the mannequin than they did on me, and then I realized that her legs were about as big around as your standard rolling pin. ::sigh::

      Delete
    2. I actually ran into my VPS once at H&M once. Awkward, lol!!

      Delete
    3. At one time there was a rule that while on the sales floor the SAs had to wear at least 3 JC items. There was also one of the best employee discounts in recent history. Nevertheless, there were some odd stylings - cardigans tied like shawls over heavy blazers, belts on everything, jackets, cardis and crewnecks ... .

  22. i was really, really trying to avoid any extra spending this month but I couldn't resist taking a peek at j.crew sales. Saw that the Laine boots were on sale for $148 plus 40% off and I tracked them down at my local B&M store. Hopefully they will let me use my student discount on them too! Then I couldn tresist browsing through the clothing sections online and ended up snagging the matelasse double zip top which has been on my wishlist FOREVER for $35, and two merino cotton tunic sweaters.

  23. Stopped into my J.Crew and just tried on the toothpick jeans in the grey wash (don't know exact name) and white. I tried each color in two sizes each and in the grey wash, both sizes felt EXACTLY the same. And the leg opening on the smaller size was larger than the leg opening on the bigger size. How irritating! There was a slight difference in the sizing in the white jeans, but you could see the pockets through them so I personally wouldn't buy them. I wanted to try on some other new arrivals but the pieces I liked, they didn't have in my size. I didn't look at what was in sale.

I also stopped into Madewell and tried on every new arrival that they had in my size. I love the Silk Garden Top but it definitely runs big. The Silk Journey Shirtdress is very nice but did not work for me because it's made for people with long(er) waists. The Chambray Popover Shirtdress felt really nice and substantial (too warm for summers probably), but it didn't give me enough of a waist so I didn't feel too comfortable. The Countdown Skirt flared at the sides and was way too big at my natural waist in my normal size, so that one was a bummer. I wasn't able to try on the Abound Dress (not even in store) or the Pleated Ponte Midi Skirt (not in my size). I wanted to also try on the skinny skinnies in the boulder wash, but they didn't have any in my size...so I tried on the black skinnies for comparable sizing. They told me about the new grey wash in the high-riser skinnies so I tried those on; they felt really nice so I'll be keeping an eye on the price. There are lots of great new washes in the high-riser! I also perused the sale section and found the Silk Cinch-Waist Dress, the only one left--and in my size! I fell in love and ended up taking it home since it was 40% off $90 and the student discount on top of that. I LOVE when Madewell does 40% off sale. Definitely check your local store to see what they're doing; when I called mine to find out, they said they'd be doing 40% off for "a while"...

    1. I LOVE the skinny skinnies in Boulder wash! Their high rise jeans are amazing although I have to get them hemmed (which Madewell does for free if you're okay with losing the stitching of the original hem). I've noticed online and B&M inventory and pricing can vary widely so if you live near a store it's better to check things out in-person.

Although it's a couple rollouts old I'm in love with the ex-boyfriend shirt in shaw plaid. The buffalo check and small gingham pattern peeking from the inside is simply PERFECT. Also--POCKETS.

    2. Another fan of boulder wash skinnies here! I think they run a half-size smaller than the madewell wash and a half-size larger than the black skinny skinnies, if that helps. Thanks for your reviews, very helpful!

  24. Canadian JCA's I did a quick look/see at the Vancouver Robson St store.
First off I was the only one in the store...they had been open about 2hrs. The lonely SA gave me the Dec. style guide and the Holiday Gift Guide when I asked for the new style guide ?
I tried on the Harlow pants ...the price in Canada is the same U.S price so these were of interest to me. They are lined and a nice light wool. they could have been a little higher waisted but the big fail for me is thecalves are tight ( my calves are alittle large but I do not have to order extended calve size boots....so not really that large) The colors are lovely esp. the mint !
The drapey crepe oxford popover (long name for a top) Is very nice ...I love crepe. I sized down but those drop shoulders are just ill fitting one me.
I am not a fan of the firework print...too red white and blue for me.
The grosgrain ribbon tops...sleeveless and long sleeved shirt were both a pass. Just very boring. The beaded zipper top is cute but I could not be wearing it here for months.
The shoes...love the navy mule but its too high for me. A mid heel
in this one would have had me buying FP.
the navy regent is a hit for me but I already have two navy blazers so not this season.
The store had a tiny sale section and not much new jewellery. They did have the new colors of the downing tote but not the hobo or uptown one. Lots of the new cece flats that I can't wear either because of no support. They did have all colors and sizes of the cross/over sandals...filmsy and for me okay for the pool.

I did not see the stand up collar leather jacket ....I don't believe we get collection items often....but Joe fresh has a pretty good knock off if your interested.
Well I left empty handed....left the old style guides there......Mickey If your reading....Canada needs better prices as the dollar is down...and we need to keep the new items coming in along with maybe a style guide ??? Please do not pull a Target on us !!! thanks from Canada

  25. Another review of a Madewell new arrival: the Copenhagen silk slub tee. I can almost forgive myself for dropping nearly fifty beans on a t-shirt. I'll confess I suffered an irresistible attraction to this tee b/c of my attachment to Copenhagen. I spent the dough and was relieved to find the shirt to be of higher quality and style than many of the thin and overly droopy options that abound. I'm 5'4", a buck twenty, 34a-28-35 and ordered my usual xs. Fits great. Not to swingy or boxy or too long or too short; I feel like Goldilocks. There aren't any shoulder seams, but there isn't an exaggerated dolman either. The slub silk fabric is great. More 'substantial' than 'thick.' Finally.
