J.Crew Email: This week's discovery...
"Thanks!" to many of you, including Irina, who shared the following email J.Crew sent this morning. The email not only features the Pleated Jardin Skirt in Heart Throb (item 64011; $128.00), but also shares its back story with customers:
Regardless of what the calendar says, we're always in the mood for love. Cue the jardin skirt, featuring a unique interpretation of our favorite symbol, the heart, given such pop culture play over the years by NYC tourism campaigns, Keith Haring, and chocolate-box-giving boyfriends. How was this print developed? Our designer was shopping the stalls at Les Puces de Saint-Ouen, the Paris flea market, and picked up a deck of unusual 19th-century playing cards. Back in the states, our in-house print illustrator used the Queen of Hearts as his muse and sketched out his own iterations- manipulating the scale to make sure they fit just right. This is one creation sure to win hearts. This skirt is another one of those prints that either customers adore or avoid. I love the length and its fullness. The print is cute, but does it limit its wear-ability?

J.Crew Spotted in Marie Claire
A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the April 2010 issue of Marie Claire, but also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the image above to see it larger.)It looks like a yet-to-be released skirt (as I cannot seem to find it online), that will retail for $98.00. The Papaya skirt is the perfect shade to wear this Spring & Summer. I also really love the way the magazine has accessorized the skirt with those two flowers.
What are your thoughts on the skirt? Do you like (or dislike) the shade of pink for the skirt? Do you know more about this skirt? If so, please share! :)

Product Review: Sunshine Peony Skirt
Sunshine Peony Skirt Click here for product page
Item 22591
Regular: $98.00
I can't believe the image for this skirt has not been changed from its current paper-doll status! (Refer to the "J.Crew Mini-Blooper: Sunshine Peony Pencil Skirt {paper doll edition}" post for more.) Ah well! ;)
J.Crew describes this little number as the following:
Our perfect pencil silhouette—leg lengthening and fit to flatter—in a fetching floral honeycombed matelassĂ© (the print reminds us of a work by one of our favorite Impressionist artists—and it's exclusively ours). Prepare for compliments.A big "thanks!" to Belle de Jour who shared the following review:
This skirt is the same fabric and cut as last year's Watercolor Floral Pencil skirt (Item 14864; $88.00— Gigi has reviewed last year's model here and this year's here). I purchased both the size 4 & 6, not being sure how sizing was running this year. The size 6 fits exactly the same way as my size 6 from last year."Thanks!" again to Belle de Jour for her great review of this skirt!
The colours are not quite a match to the website. This has to do with how the fabric is cut. One of the skirts is more pink/white and the other is more mustard. I would suggest purchasing multiples (if your wallet allows in the short term) in order to have the colourway your looking for.
I will be returning this skirt. It's lovely, and if I didn't already own last year's incarnation, I would keep it. I'm still looking for a Silk Floral Indigo Skirt (Summer 2009) and hoping J.Crew has something as stunning in the next few months.

J.Crew Spotted in Harper's Bazaar
A big "thanks!" to Desert Flower, who not only let us know about a J.Crew item being spotted in the March 2010 issue of Harper's Bazaar, but also scanned the image for us to view! (Click on the image above to see it larger.)
The item featured is the Lipstick Gold Foil Pencil Skirt (Item 22949; $178.00). J.Crew describes this little number as:Our perfect pencil silhouette—leg lengthening and fit to flatter—updated for spring in a gorgeous rose-gold foiled cloquĂ© with a grosgrain ribbon waistband. Prepare for compliments. Italian silk/metallic threads/nylon. Sits at waist. Back zip. Back vent. Fully lined. 24" long. Part of the J.Crew Collection.Luckily for us, there are several real life images of this dress over at Anya's Simply J.Crew blog (refer to the "Lipstick gold foil pencil skirt" post).
I am unsure if I like the the gold foil finish on the skirt. I also think this is the kind of pencil skirt that looks amazing on some JCAs (e.g. Anya) and ridiculous on other JCAs (e.g. me).
What are your thoughts on the Lipstick Gold Foil Pencil Skirt? Do you like (or dislike) the fabric/ gold foil finish for the skirt? Have you purchased or tried this skirt on? If so, please share! :)

J.Crew Mini-Blooper: Sunshine Peony Pencil Skirt {paper doll edition}
Once in awhile, J.Crew will have a minor glitch with the images used in their website, catalog, or promotions that makes us smile. The following is one of those instances...
Honestly, who doesn't love the Sunshine Peony print? I love all its versions— from the Sunshine Peony Cardigan (Item 24938; $98.00), to the Sunshine Peony Coccinelle Dress (Item 24947; $138.00), to the Sunshine Peony Perfect Shirt (Item 22768; $98.00), and even the Sunshine Peony Skirt (Item 22591; $98.00). Now, about that skirt...
A big "thanks!" to Danielle, Linnette, as well as Leader Girl, PinkLuxe, Sheil, Silver_Lining, Christy, DaniBP, StuffIWear, Heidi, AppGal, & Kendra (in this post), who pointed out the mini-blooper with the Sunshine Peony Pencil Skirt photo. From the catalog image (shown above), it is clear that J.Crew "cut out" a pencil skirt-shape from the lovely Sunshine Peony print and pasted it onto the model.
"Kudos!" to Silver_Lining (in this post) who figured out that the original skirt in the photo was most-likely the Neapolitan Pencil Skirt (Item 22982; $98.00). As she pointed out, the outfit is exactly the same (minus the skirt of course). ;)
Heidi (in this post) provided the most reasonable explanation of what might have occurred: "they may have photoshopped it in because they didn't have the sample finished in time for the shoot with the model".
Lastly, "thanks!" to GigiOfCa who provided a review & real-life images of this skirt over at her {amazing} Gigi's Gone Shopping blog (check out her "JCrew - sunshine peony pencil skirt" post). This print on the skirt looks beautiful in real life. (And GigiOfCa looks great in it!) Also, "thanks!" to FFM who has a few images of this print over at her Fabulous Floria Mommy blog that should be checked out too (refer to her "J.Crew New Arrivals: IRL Pics", "J.Crew New Arrivals: IRL Pics *Part Two*", & "J.Crew New Arrivals: IRL Pics *Part Three*" posts).
Did you notice the mistake with the Sunshine Peony Pencil Skirt image? Did you try on or purchase this skirt? If so, please share! ;)

Love It Or Leave It: Silk Pleated Skirt
Silk Pleated SkirtClick here for product page
Item 11653
Regular: $250.00
"Thanks!" to Em (in this post) who brought our attention to this skirt for a post.
To start off, I am not a fan of this skirt...
The website describes it as "A very special, limited-edition skirt in champagne silk georgette. This is a classic silhouette that never goes out of style. We love the mini-pleats and—the best part—the way it swings when you walk". From the additional views of the skirt, the silhouette does not seem like it will be flattering to anyone with curves, in particular those with curvy thighs.
Also, I wonder how those mini-pleats hold up when you continuously sit down. I have a sneaky suspicion those pleats will not maintain their shape and look a bit messy after awhile (which is an issue that most pleated skirts have).
Lastly, what is up with the waist on it? First, it looks like it sits very high on the model, despite being described as "sits at waist". Second, the double stitching around the waist seems to create an imaginary bulge around the tummy, while emphasizing the thighs- something that my pear shaped frame needs no help with. ;)What are your thoughts on the Silk Pleated Skirt? Do you "love it" or would you "leave it"? Do you already own this skirt or have seen it at a store? If so, please share with us your review. :)

J.Crew's Cotton Skirt in People Magazine
The first item is described as the "Cupcake" cotton top. This is their Tissue Rolling-Ruffles Tank (Item 12667; $44.00), which has been available for awhile. For more on this tank, please check out Slastena's post (click here), FabulousFloridaMommy's posts (click here and here), and GigiOfCa's post (click here).
The second item is a ruffle skirt in cotton and retails for $148. This is a new item, yet to be released online (considering I was unable to find the skirt on their website.) ;) The closest item I found is the Cotton Sateen Gateau Skirt (Item 13464; $88.00). The new cotton skirt looks very pretty, however I am curious how long it is. I am a big fan of skirts hitting "below the knee" and I am not sure if this one does. Also, ruffles are a tricky style- some ruffle skirts look great, while others make my bum look much bigger than it is. ;)
MINI UPDATE: "Thanks!" to our super sleuth Aficionada leogrl6787 (in this post), who let us know that the skirt featured in the magazine is actually the Tiered Ruffle Skirt (Item 11625, $148.00) and is available for pre-order online. :)What are your thoughts on the new cotton Tiered Ruffle Skirt (e.g. do you like/ dislike the material or style)? Do you like ruffle skirts in general? What is your preferred length for skirts? :)

Product Review: Hexagon Jacquard Mini
Hexagon Jacquard MiniClick here for product page
Item 11803
Regular: $158.00
A big "thanks!" to Chiffoncupcake (in this post) who shared with us her great review of this skirt.
I received a few emails asking about the hexagon jacquard mini (item 11803). Thought I may give a mini review here.
It is an adorable skirt with unique prints, the perfect length ann slight A-line shape. The fabric is soft and thin to medium weight. I am usually a size 2 in pants but sized up on this one so it does not get too short at the back. The waist is not terribly loose so it is great. It hits about 4.5" above my knees.
However, the fabric is a little shiny for me - it is quite shiny even under dim lights. The black part on the skirt is made of shiny materials (probably the acetate?) and the greyish fabric is metallic. I initially thought only the center and back front part are shiny as shown on the website but it was in fact the lighting effect. I ended up returning it as I figured I would not have much use of a short and shiny mini perhaps except for Saturday nights out.
If you are not afraid of a little shines, go for it! :)
"Thanks!" again to Chiffoncupcake for her great review!
What are your thoughts on the Hexagon Jacquard Mini? Are you considering or already have purchased this skirt? Have you seen this skirt in person? If so, please share with us your reviews too! :)

Product Review: Retro-Chambray Wendy Skirt
Retro-Chambray Wendy SkirtClick here for product page
Item 12971
Regular: $78.00
Now: $59.50
"Thanks!" to Tigs who shared with us her great review (plus several real-life images) of this skirt.
I purchased the Wendy Retro-Chambray Skirt, item 12971, regular size 4, at full price a few weeks ago. It was $78.00 and is currently on promotion for $59.50.
I loved this skirt when I purchased it but have not worn it yet. I've read a few negative comments about it, and after reading Gigi's review today (click here) decided to try it on again to see what I was missing. Well, I agree it does nothing for my figure either. I'm 5'7", 133 lbs, most of which I'm carrying on my hips and waist. I wear a size 6 in JCrew pants (cords, chino's, cargos, etc.) and skirts. I sized down one time to a size 4 in this skirt.
If I wanted to put some work into removing the buttons I could but there are other skirts that would require less work, and I just don't love the style of the skirt enough to put work into it. Hope this helps someone else make a decision. I'm sure it would look smashing on A Bigger Closet who is model thin!
"Thanks!" again to Tigs for her great review!

Product Review: Silk Dupioni Skirt
Silk Dupioni SkirtClick here for product page
Item 99975
Regular: $175.00
Now: $49.99
According to J.Crew's item page:
Our sweet party skirt is made of pure silk dupioni—it's graceful, fluid, and with just a subtle hint of sheen. Pure silk. Feminine, flowy, bell-shaped, gently pleated skirt. Sits at waist. Side zip. On-seam pockets. Fully lined. 21" long. Import. Dry clean.I think this skirt is gorgeous! I l-o-v-e the design, which is noted as "flowy, bell-shaped, gently pleated skirt". The pure silk dupioni fabric with "just a subtle hint of sheen," is fantastic- it can be dressed up or dressed down (and still look great!) The only {minor} drawback I can think of (although I don't know for sure, since I have not tried it on in-person) is length. I might prefer the skirt to be a bit longer.
A big "thanks!" to JaneEsq. (in this post) again, who shared with us her great review of this {beautiful} skirt!

skirt: I ordered the golden cypress and its a truly stunning color-a golden green with a touch of yellow. This color is far more versatile than one would think, I am thinking of pairing it with pinks, ivories, grays. I am, however, waivering on my size choice."Thanks!" again to JaneEsq. (in this post) for her review! :)
I am generally a 4 in JC skirts (especially pencil skirts) but could definitly size down in this. I chose the 4 because I thought it would sit lower on the waist and be more conducive to layering. It doesn't look big or anything, but I definitly could have taken a 2 without a problem. I am going to pair it with other tops at home before I decide to size down or not.
What are your thoughts on the Silk Dupioni Skirt (do you like/dislike the style, design, fabric)? Are you considering or already have purchased this skirt? Have you seen this skirt in-person? If so, please share with us your reviews too! :)

Product Review: Golden Roses
A big "thanks!" to kitchy7 who provided wonderfully detailed reviews for several Golden Roses items. The following are her great reviews:
I love the golden roses print. The variety of golden yellows, oranges, and light and dark grays is truly unique, like a special find in an English vintage shop. To some, the yellows and oranges might seem too bright, but in real life, they present themselves in a far more subdued manner. They are helped along by a full spectrum of grays and a lack of crisp lines in the pattern: just as in a watercolor painting, the edges are beautifully softened.
I love the golden roses print so much, in fact, that I have collected several of the items available in this print. Even better, I managed to buy most of them on sale, as all of them still are on the website. Here is my review of those items:
Golden Roses Renée Coat
Item 99290
Regular: $425.00
Now: $199.99
I think this is a stunning coat. It arrived in a J.Crew gift box tied up with a red ribbon that I couldn’t pull off fast enough. I pulled it on, and it fit like a dream. The shoulders were perfectly roomy, and it fell in a perfect slight A-line. For those of you that like a slimmer fit, you might consider sizing down.
I think this coat is probably best worn as a statement piece and not in competition with other bright colors or patterns. For example, it looks fantastic paired with simple jeans, a charcoal turtleneck sweater, and tall black boots. That said, it also looks very pretty with yellow.
The RenĂ©e coat is a lighter jacket, more useful in trench coat weather than truly cold weather. It’s made of 78% wool and 22% silk and has an acetate lining. To the touch, it feels a bit rougher than some might like. I don’t mind, though, because I’m so in love with it. The fabric is flexible, too, and not stiff like the watercolor leopard Kate coat was, and that makes all the difference in the world to me.
Golden Roses Chérie Cami
Item 99921
Regular: $88.00
Now: $59.99
The Chérie cami is made of 100% silk and feels incredibly lightweight, soft, and delicate. The website description says it wears as well with jeans as it does under a suit, and I completely agree.
The collar adds a nice touch, separating it even further from an ordinary cami. The cut is definitely on the roomy side, so I would suggest sizing down unless you prefer a more billowy fit.
Golden Roses Pencil Skirt
Item 99460
Regular: $198.00
Now: $139.99
The skirt is, of course, just as pretty as the coat. It’s also made of the same fabric mixture: 78% wool and 22% silk (so if you have seen and felt the skirt, you know exactly what the coat looks and feels like).
The length is perfect for professional settings at 24 ½ inches, and it features a back vent for easy walking (a must for me, as I tend to take long, fast strides). I think it’s sized in the same way as other J.Crew pencil skirts from this season, so those of you that size up in the higher-waisted pencil skirts will likely want to do the same with this one.
A super big "thanks!" to kitchy7 for her amazing reviews! :)

Product Review: Sketchbook Roses Belle Skirt
Sketchbook roses Belle skirtClick here for product page
Item 96173
Regular: $140.00
Michelle posted a great review of the Sketchbook Roses Belle Skirt (in the post "J.Crew Stores: Additional 20% 0r 40% Off Sale?") that deserves its own post. The following is Michelle's review:
"...I wanted to post a review of the Sketchbook Roses Belle skirt because I love it so much and feel like a lot of people might overlook it. It's not as flashy as some of the other pieces this season, but it is definitely a beautiful, classic piece."Thanks!" to Michelle for a great review! :)I was curious about this skirt because the pattern is similar to that of a Chanel scarf I saw in Lucky magazine last month or the month before. I thought the skirt was pretty online, but I was afraid that it was overpriced. I was pleasantly surprised by it when I saw it in the store. I tried it on, and I fell in love with it. The silk taffeta is so soft and smooth and light as air. The roses do look like a charcoal sketch, as they are soft shaded graphite color, but they also have a hint of shimmer because of the silk taffeta fabric. I tried the skirt on and decided it was worth every penny; I took it home with me.
The shape of this Belle is a bit fuller than the cotton taffeta Belles. It almost looks as though it has some crinoline underneath it, even though it doesn't have anything but the thin lining layer. The fuller shape gives the skirt a flattering, waist-cinching 50s silhouette when paired with a form-fitting top. I paired this skirt with a tucked-in black cashmere ¾ sleeve turtleneck, skinny black patent belt on the skirt's waist, pearls, and simple black heels, and put my hair in a loose chignon. When I saw myself I was vaguely reminded of Grace Kelly in Rear Window, which is impressive because believe me I look nothing like Grace Kelly. I made a polyvore set with this look (which does even come close to doing it justice), and this is how I plan to wear it to my rehearsal dinner this Friday. I am so glad I paid attention to this skirt!"
What are your thoughts on the Sketchbook Roses Belle Skirt? Do you love it or would you leave it? If you already own this skirt, please let us know what you think?

Love it or Leave it: the Whisper Lamé Tiered Skirt
Whisper lamé tiered skirtItem 93403
Click here to visit product page
Regular: $175.00
Now $99.99
When I first saw this skirt online, I thought "huh?" I wasn't sure what to make of it. It seemed a bit too "flashy" for the regular J.Crew line. (In fact, I couldn't understand how J.Crew's marketing team decided on the word "whisper" to describe the item's title. It is more like "loud" to me.) When I saw this skirt in-person at a store, I thought, "definitely overpriced for the material!"
J.Crew online states that the skirt is "a very special limited edition, silvery and pixie-like, in Italian cotton with a metallic sheen. It took weeks to get the tiers just right—each one is different by design, giving the skirt that extra edge." Uh, two weeks devoted to its tiers but no one during that time bothered to line the skirt (currently it is "unlined")? (For that price, it should be at the very least lined with some special, limited edition fabric as well.)
I am thinking that this skirt is meant to be targeted towards the younger demographics of J.Crew (e.g. late teens with lots of disposable income), because I definitely don't feel like it is targeted to me. :) I am just saying, for that price I would much rather get one of J.Crew's jackets, like the Refined canvas Fiona jacket, on sale.
What do you think of the Whisper Lame Tiered Skirt? Do you love it or would you leave it? Do you own it? Let us know what you think! :)

Not what it seems: the Dark Chambray Swing Skirt
I had my eye on the Dark chambray swing skirt (Item 90972) for ever. Imagine my delight when I saw it in the sale section last week for just $19.99 plus shipping. Naturally, I bought it immediately (not even caring that I had no "free shipping code" to apply to the order).I just received it today and... so disappointed! Besides the skirt color not being as dark as in the photo, the skirt hits above the knee (20 inches long). The picture with the model wearing the skirt, clearly shows the skirt hitting below the knee. I naturally called J.Crew's customer service (which by the way, the menu prompt is now different) who told me that the skirt is in fact suppose to be 20 inches long. She also told me that she was surprise to see how short the skirt was in-person as well (since her friend has the skirt).
I am strongly considering returning the skirt. I thought it looked cute/classy below the knee. However, I think it looks a bit too "young" above the knee (especially when I am 5'8 in height).
For those who have this skirt, what is your impression? Were you disappointed or delighted with the skirt?
