J.Crew's Regent Blazer in Navy

"Thanks!" to many of you who shared the following email with us.

J.Crew announced that they are now offering the Regent Blazer (item B0323; $198.00) in Navy. This jacket is well rated (4.5 out of 5 stars) so I am honestly surprised that this jacket was not already being offered in Navy.

I feel like this is the type of jacket you either love or hate, with no in between. It either looks good on you or it doesn't.

What are your thoughts on the Regent Blazer from J.Crew? Are you excited to see it comes in Navy now?

J.Crew Classic Schoolboy Blazer {new school vs old school}

J.Crew sent out an email, as well as featured in their latest catalog, the new and improved Schoolboy Blazer. J.Crew shared the following about this newest wardrobe staple:
Some History: School uniforms started in the 1500s in England, but the term "blazer" wasn't coined until 1825 by a group of Cambridge University students (the style was later adopted by '60s Mods as a symbol of youthful independence). Who Knew?

The New Schoolboy Blazer: Sometimes we take a lesson from you. You asked for it, so we gave the schoolboy a few new design updates, making it way better and the only blazer you'll ever need.

The Details: (1) A slightly longer length elongates everything, so it's extra flattering. (2) Our silky stripe lining makes it even more comfortable. (3) Four buttons instead of three add detail and polish. (4) A menswear-inspired ticket pocket can hold little stuff like lipstick or credit cards- though we prefer keeping it closed.
Some of you already checked out this blazer in person- and the reviews seem neutral towards negative when it comes to the changes. In particular, the comments made it sound like the details didn't upgrade too much (the length wasn't too significant, adding an extra button not a big deal, etc.). Naturally, this makes me even more curious about the new blazer...

Thankfully, there is a super detailed review of the New Schoolboy Blazer in Navy (item 03171; $198.00) with its predecessor, Classic Schoolboy Blazer in Navy (item 28233; $198.00) by Elle, over at her {amazing} "Fast Food & Fast Fashion" blog. Check out her "Review: J. Crew Classic Schoolboy Blazer in Navy vs. New Schoolboy Blazer in Navy" post. There are tons of images that showcase both blazers side by side making the comparison easy.

From the review, it doesn't seem like much of an improvement to make such a fuss about. Even the length (which I was most excited about!) doesn't appear to be that great. The body length increased slightly from 24 1/4" to 25 1/8.

On a related a note, I find the Classic Schoolboy Blazer recent promo-price fluctuation during the past two weeks fascinating. The rarely-goes-on-sale-blazer was a part of the "instant gratification" sale last week- allowing customers to score this normally $198 item for just $99. (Some JCAs even managed to get it for an additional 40% off- for a grand total of $60!) A few JCAs speculated it was to move inventory of the classic blazer (to make room for the new blazer counterpart). Once the "instant gratification" sale ended, the promotional price of the jacket jumped to something like $128 (I can't remember the exact number). Today, the blazer is still on promotion, but for $178.

J.Crew probably believed the New Schoolboy Blazer would handily replace the Classic version. However, I suspect they got quite a bit of push back from customers preferring the Classic Blazer (which encouraged the price rises!)

What are your thoughts on the New versus Classic Schoolboy Blazer? Have you seen the new one in person? Are the improvements worth it? Please share your thoughts! :)

Product Review: Hacking Jacket in Double-Serge Wool

Hacking Jacket in Double-Serge Wool
Item 51884
Regular: $250.00

J.Crew describes this jacket as the following:
Inspired by traditional British riding jackets, our newest wear-with-all third piece features a longer, leaner silhouette with a nipped-in waist for a flattering effect. Crafted in the same double-serge wool we use in our sleek structured suiting, it's the kind of jacket you'll wear—and love—for seasons to come (we're wearing ours riding subways, bicycles and, of course, horses). Fitted. Notch collar. Long sleeves. Welt pockets, interior pockets. Functional buttons at cuffs. Back vent. Fully lined. Hits at hip. Import. Dry clean.
This jacket is the 2011 version of J.Crew's Solid Lexington Jacket (Item 88573; $250.00) from 2007. The 2007 version came in several great shades (as shown below): citron (bright yellow), soft azalea (pink), ivory, heather nickel, iris, and black. (Image provided by Life As a Cat's "Holiday 2007" catalog post.)

The 2011 Hacking Jacket in Double-Serge Wool comes in some pretty fabulous shades too: black, heather acorn, pine, bright turquoise, heather bright berry. It was hard deciding which one to get, because they are all so beautiful. I ended up with Heather Bright Berry and Heather Acorn. (I am very happy that I did as one is a rich red and the other a gorgeous neutral brown.)

When it comes to sizing, I found it is true-to-non-vanity-sizing. In other words, I went with a size 2 and it fit perfectly. (I am a size 34B for reference.) The measurements for this jacket are a tiny bit smaller than the Hacking Jacket in Herringbone (refer to the "Product Review: Hacking Jacket in Herringbone" post.) So you may want to double check with J.Crew the measurements in your size .

The fit is a tailored (and well-made) jacket. It is great for creating a slim frame and emphasizing a small waist. The longer silhouette is a great length too!

I want to add something about buttoning the jacket: I can only button the top one. Even the model doesn't button them both. Maybe it's because I am a pear shape, but I think the second (bottom) button is for show only.

The fabric is very nice as well. It is not as thick as the Lexington, but it is close (which is good enough for me!) The interior lining is not as nice as the Lexington- but it is not that noticeable (only when I directly compared the two jackets). Just thought I would mention these aspects in case anyone was wondering.

Which reminds me about the buttons. They have these little pineapple designed enamel buttons. The buttons do not seem like the same quality as the nautical themed buttons of the Lexington. However, I don't mind it because they are that cute in person! From what I can tell, the buttons on all of these jackets (no matter the color selected) is the same.

Also, the underside of the collar has felt like the Hacking Jacket in Herringbone. I like to flip the collar up sometimes. So I am not sure if I like the fabric used under the collar.

Lastly, the back flap did not stick up for me as much as it did in the Herringbone version. No clue as to why that is.

Overall, I adore this jacket! I can easily see it being a staple in any one's wardrobe thanks to its classic elements. I would highly recommend it.

I am especially pleased with this jacket considering the Hacking Jacket in Herringbone did not work for me. (I ended up returning the Herringbone jacket I purchased because the fabric was both too itchy for me to wear and too cheap for the price point purchased.)

Product Review: Hacking Jacket in Herringbone

Hacking Jacket in Herringbone
Item 48263
Regular: $198.00
Secret sale in-stores: $125.00

No lie, I had my eye on this jacket for some time. So when it went down to $125 (as mentioned in the "Secret Sale: Hacking Jacket for $125 {limited time..." post), I thought I would finally get it.

J.Crew describes this jacket as the following:
Inspired by traditional British riding jackets, our newest wear-with-all third piece features a longer, leaner silhouette with a nipped-in waist for a flattering effect. Crafted in one of our favorite menswear-inspired herringbones in completely crush-worthy colors, it's the kind of jacket you'll wear—and love—for seasons to come (we're wearing ours riding subways, bicycles and, of course, horses). Wool. Fitted. Notch collar. Long sleeves. Flap pockets. Functional buttons at cuffs. Back vent. Fully lined. Hits below hip. Import. Dry clean.
Luckily, my local store had some of these jackets available for me to try on. When it came to sizing, I went with the size 2. (For reference, I am a 34B.) No vanity sizing here (unlike other jackets from current seasons, where I can size down to 0 easily because they are cut generously). The size 2 fit me best here. It's like J.Crew sizing from 2007-8! ;) I should add that the shoulders seemed to fit a bit short, but perfect in the waist.

This jacket comes in so many delicious shades (charcoal, grass, heather dark grape, vibrant flame, & midnight ocean) that it was difficult narrowing it down to one. The color I ended up getting is the Heather Dark Grape (and it is a rich shade of purple). It is a darker shade than the Lexington Jacket in Iris.

The material is wool and it is itchy! Quite a bit actually. This makes me so very unhappy. :( There was also a lot of white fuzzy hair all over the jacket. (I had to use a lint roller to get it all off.) Not sure what to make of this...

The length of this jacket is slightly longer than some of their other jackets. Since I am a pair shape, this creates a slight opening in the back flap. I don't mind this look, but some may be concerned. Therefore, you may want to try this jacket on beforehand (if that option is available to you).

The length of the sleeves works great for me (not too long, not too short). There is also a stripe-pattern for the inside lining of the sleeves in case you want to fold them over.

The jacket looks absolutely lovely with the collar up. Too bad that J.Crew didn't add any special silk lining under the collar. This brings me to my other point... the inside of the jacket. There is nothing special inside either. Even the inside pocket looks bored by the lack of silk print accents. At least J.Crew brought back the leather buttons. :)

J.Crew's Schoolboy Blazer in Wool Flannel

This jacket has been getting a love of love in the blog-o-sphere. I think it is on everyone's list of must-have-now!

How many of us JCAs were excited to see the Schoolboy Blazer in Wool Flannel (Item 48682; $188.00) in J.Crew's Fall Collection? I know I was. Was? Yes, the word "was"!

The jacket featured in the "J.Crew Email: Fall's finest: shop the latest in st..." post got a lot of reviews from JCAs who saw this jacket firsthand. The overall sentiment: this jacket does not live up to the quality standards of the Lexington, Bellas, Wool Oxford, Celtic Herringbone, and Juliette of yore. From being too thin, the material not being quite right, and prone to wrinkles...

I have not yet tried on this jacket in a J.Crew store, so I cannot speak about it firsthand. (My local J.Crew was unpacking its new arrivals when I was last there.) I love jackets and this was "the" item that I was looking forward the most to buy. So I am truly disappointed to hear that the jackets are not as lovely as they could have been. (Doesn't J.Crew's CEO, Mickey Drexler, repeatedly mention in interviews that quality in products is of the utmost importance to bringing customers back to J.Crew in this economy?!?)

Lastly, for a review with real life images, check out shopwithm's great "j.crew review: viridian green double serge, red schoolboy blazer & quincy tartan!" post.

What are your thoughts on the Schoolboy Blazer in Wool Flannel? Have you tried on or own it? Does your local brick & mortar store carry this jacket? If so, please share.

J.Crew Jackets & Blazers... Still The Same?

So I recently was in my closet and made a startling observation: I had not purchased a jacket or blazer from J.Crew's current collection in awhile. (Okay, just the past few months. But even in the previous months, not many were purchased.)

I never thought about it because I had still been buying J.Crew jackets like crazy, but they were all from eBay (from seasons' past). This got me thinking "why?" After awhile, the answer for me is that the style, construction, fit, and quality are different.
Take for example the two jackets pictured above— the Schoolboy Blazer in Navy (Item 28233; $188.00) that is currently offered on the left, and the Wool Hacking Jacket (Item 74125; $235.00) from 2007-8 on the right. Both jackets are similar in look and both are absolutely lovely. However, I am drawn to the details of the Wool Hacking Jacket a bit more. In particular the tie silk fabric under the collar. Such a delicious detail that makes you want to show it off by popping the collar. (I should add that I own this jacket and pop-the-collar as often as I can!)

J.Crew offered the best little details on jackets, besides the silk-tie prints under collars. For example, they also used the most beautiful prints on the inside lining of their jackets. Like a little surprise when you took off the coat. :)

They also had the best buttons— whether they were gold crested or nautically-themed, they had character of their own. I recently checked out the Indigo Pea Jacket (Item 39331; $148.00) from J.Crew's current line. The coat is super cute (so much so that I got it this week!), but I found the gold metal buttons to feel a bit cheap.

Even things like fit seem different now. I use to find the older jackets (like for the Lexington Blazer and Juliette Jacket) were tailored and fit me well all-around (shoulders, sleeves, waist, & length). Now, I find the current jackets' shoulders are snug and the body is fine, or the shoulders are fine and the body is loose, or even the sleeve lengths being a tad short. Is this just me?

I should add that I still really like J.Crew's jackets & blazers. I am just not "in love" with them like I once did.

What are your thoughts on J.Crew's jackets and blazers? Do you think their current line stands up to its predecessors? Do you find the fit to have stayed the same for you over the years? If so, please share! :)

Product Review: Marled Thandie Blazer

Marled Thandie Blazer
Item 29305
Regular $158.00
Now $99.99 (Online)
Now $89.99 (In Store)

J.Crew describes this jacket as follows:
Our design team's latest blazer brilliance? Knit. In cotton/wool jacquard with a brushed surface (we love its supple handfeel and speckled character), this double-breasted classic boasts a soft, drapey blazer fit that feels easy and modern. Adding to the chic factor are raw-edge seams. Lapel collar. Long sleeves. Welt pockets. Buttons at cuffs. Back vent. Partially lined. Hits at hip. Import. Dry clean.
Let me start by saying that my receipt labels this jacket as the "Wool Haberdashery Molly Jacket". Not sure why, but there you have it. Now onto the jacket... Loves it!

I never gave this jacket any thought when I saw it online. However, I really loved it after seeing it in-person at the store. I think it is because of the way J.Crew styled the model (who is gorgeous). The online photos do not do this jacket justice. It looks boxy online, while it is more fitted in real-life. (That is why the image above, sans model, is more accurate of the jacket's fit.)

I got this jacket in Heather Graphite and I found it true to its color name. (The shade that appears online is true to real-life.) It works beautifully dressed down with jeans or dressed up with a nice pair of black pants.

As for the fit, I took a size 0. Although there was no size 2 for me to compare to, I think sizing up would work fine too. I found that the jacket fit me perfectly in the body. It looks fitted from the front, although from the side there is some swing to it. Not alot, but just a little.

It is also snug in the shoulders and arms. That is right, the arms! (It was a bit weird at first, because I wasn't expecting that.) There is some stretch to the jacket thanks to the material (55% Cotton, 41% Wool, 4% Nylon). So wearing long sleeve tees and blouses should be fine.

As for the material's weight, it's by no means too thin or too heavy. It is the kind of jacket you will wear comfortably for Fall's crisp days.

The style is great too. It hits perfectly at the hip and it looks great either open or closed.

Dear J.Crew, Bring Back the Bella {bank it!}

As I mentioned before, I often check eBay to purchase missed J.Crew merchandise opportunities of seasons' past.

I saw an auction on eBay end (not my own!) for the Wool Herringbone Bella Jacket in Grey (in size 2, just my size!) What amazed me was how much it sold for... $172.49 plus an additional $10 for shipping! There was also a Bella Winter Coat that recently sold for $169.50 plus $10 for shipping. Amazing!

This jacket (& coat) came out in Fall 2007! The fact that shoppers are willing to pay so much for it after all these years is a testament to the desirability of this classic piece.

I get why so many are willing to pay so much too! I own the Grey and Coral Red versions and would not give them up for anything. I would gladly pay $180 for this jacket (in rich colors like Azalea and timeless Black) if it came out this Fall/Winter 2010. :)

I seriously think J.Crew should consider re-introducing this one-of-kind jacket. They could make so much money off this one item too! :)

What are your thoughts on the Bella Jacket? Do you still love it after all these years (like I do!) Do you think J.Crew should re-introduce the exclusive jacket of theirs?

J.Crew Email: Crushing on velvet (plus, FREE SHIPPING)

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta & Ketan, who shared with us the latest email from J.Crew.

The email above features the the Velvet Ruby Jacket (Item 29018; $168.00). J.Crew describes this velvet jacket as:
Our blazer meets cardigan—elegantly deconstructed and drapey, in buttery panne velvet with sheer blended silk georgette lining and trim for a modern mix of textures and vibes. The finishing touch? A removable grosgrain belt for waist definition and added dimension. Rayon/silk. Lapel collar. Hook-and-bar closure. Long sleeves. Welt pockets with flaps. Fully lined. Hits at hip. Import. Dry clean. Catalog/jcrew.com only.
This jacket has been discussed on this blog before (refer to the July 15th "J.Crew Email: A chic peek, just for Cardmembers" post.) This jacket looks cute in the email above but not so great in real life. It's missing that "something" for me.

What are your thoughts on the Velvet Ruby Jacket? Have you seen or tried it on? Do you like the style- from the shape to the ribbon? Please share! :)

Product Review: Twill Bomber Jacket

Twill Bomber Jacket
Item 22366
Regular: $128.00
Now: $89.99

J.Crew describes this take-flight jacket as the following:
Inspired by a vintage bomber jacket, with classic styling and authentic details (we're throwing it on over our daintiest of dresses for a tough, tomboy-chic edge). Specially washed with an antiqued finish, it's the piece that will slip into your closet and seem like it's been there forever. Cotton. Standing collar. Zip front with button-flap closure. Long sleeves. Welt pockets with snap closure. Functional snaps at cuffs. Fully lined. Hits at hip. Import. Machine wash.
When I first saw this jacket, I admit I was intrigued. But I knew if I waited long enough, I would snag one on sale. ;)

First, I love that this jacket is machine washable. What a lovely feature!!! Seriously, yey! :) The cotton is a nice material which isn't rough. It is also lined to the point wear I think it's a medium-weight jacket. Perfect for Spring and Fall's crisp nights.

What makes this jacket a must-have is the standing collar. The way the collar sits up in the back and falls in the front, instantly makes anyone look a bit cooler. ;)

This jacket comes in two shades: Wild Mushroom (aka: rich brown) and Fatigue. I choose the Fatigue and it definitely is a nice shade of moss green. It also has a soft wash look to it, so it feels like its been around for awhile (in a good way).

To close the jacket, you have to zip it up. There are buttons, but they are located at the top (two snap buttons) and the very bottom (one snap button). This is a bit odd for me. I would have liked snap buttons all the way down the jacket. Ah well!

When it comes to fit, I went with a size 0. It fits fine on my shoulders even though it is a bit boxy in the body. But it's not terribly boxy since the cotton elastic hem on the bottom keeps it all in check.

Lastly, the pockets. The jacket is full of pockets which are a nice have. Except for one thing, there is no where to comfortably put your hands. The two bottom pockets have this weird side pocket built in front of them. No adult hand can entirely fit in it, so what's the point of them? And its awkward putting your hand through the top slit of the bottom pocket with button closure.

The item featured is the classic staple: black jacket. Unfortunately, I have no clue which black jacket it is! ;) But it does look amazing how its style above.

Product Review: Rose Vines Blazer

Rose Vines Blazer
Item 25959
Regular: $168.00
Now Online: $99.99 $59.99
Now In-Stores: $59.99

J.Crew describes this floral jacket as the following:
Our favorite schoolboy blazer, refashioned in a fabulous floral pattern (our designers fell in love with a vintage print they stumbled across at a flea market in the South of France and had it recolored exclusively for us). With a touch of ruching at the back for a sleeker, more feminine silhouette. Specially washed for softness and that broken-in, had-it-forever look and feel, this is a piece that will slip into your closet and seem like it's been there forever. Cotton. Fitted. Lapel collar. Long sleeves. Welt flap pockets, chest pocket. Fully lined. Hits at waist. Import. Machine wash.
Let me start by saying, "WTF?!?" about the price discrepancy between the store and online. I don't understand how stores are selling it for $59.99 and online it is $99.99. Whatever...

This jacket has gotten a lot of press from the JCAs and I can understand why. It really is a super cute piece to wear.

Let me start with the fabric. The cotton used for the jacket is super light, which makes it comfortable to wear during the cool Summer evenings. Since the cotton is so light, it also does not have too much structure to it. As in, it doesn't look as crisp as a suit jacket. But this isn't meant to be a suit jacket, so I do not mind this.

The cut of the jacket is super feminine. It is fitted, which is a delightful treat (considering how many boxy jackets J.Crew offers now). There is also ruching at the back which actually showcases the contour of your back. Super lovely!

As for the color, it is a light print. From far away, it almost looks white/grey-ish. But when you are close, the adorable floral pattern shines through.

The jacket actually looks better with the sleeves rolled up. I don't know why, but they just do. (I don't think I see myself wearing it with the sleeves down.)

When it comes to sizing, I would say its true-to-size. (As far as J.Crew's new sizing goes. What do I mean by "new sizing"? A few years ago I was a size 2 in tops. Now I am a size 0. I didn't lose weight, it's just vanity sizing on their part.) For this jacket I went with a size 0 and felt it was the perfect size.

For some reviews & real-life images of this jacket from fellow JCAs, check out:

Product Review: Lollipop Ribbon Jacket

Lollipop Ribbon Jacket
Item 23162
Regular: $350.00
Now: $149.99

J.Crew describes this sweet jacket as the following:
An exquisite candy-hued weave (from an esteemed Biella, Italy, mill specializing in magnificent tweeds) sweetens this ladylike jacket. Silk chiffon taping and raw-cut edges add a modern couture feel. Nylon/cotton/linen/rayon. Notch collar. Bracelet sleeves. Flap pockets with button closure.
This jacket has been getting a lot of attention from fellow JCAs. Luckily for us, we have a few reviews.

A big "thanks!" to ajc (in this post) who shared the following review:
For those considering the Lollipop Jacket. I bought it FP, decided it was way too much, returned and now I ordered it again. Imo it fits tts. It is somewhat boxy and on me it was similar in fit/sizing to Rose Vines blazer with not much waist definition. I took 6 in this jacket and wondered if I need an 8, while I bought 4 in Dauphine and 2 was a great fit everywhere but the armholes. I am 34D for a reference.

The tweed is very nice but delicate and it will have tendency to snag, I think because of the 'ribbon' content. Overall workmanship, and quality is very good. It reminds me of similar Kate Spade jacket from this season but at $120 it now it has a very good price. It has unfinished edges but from my experience they do not unravel.

The tweed is very different from Collier or Dauphine, thinner and making it much more suitable for spring/summer. It is definitely a 'special' jacket and it will be noticed.

The color is actually quite subtle I think more peach than orange. Overall, if you like it in the picture you should not be dissapointed. When I bought it FP I thought I would never wear it enough to justify the price but at $119 I think it is reasonable for the quality.
Another big "thanks!" to Summer (in this post) who shared the following review:
Just got the lollipop jacket. It is nice but does not super excite me. Lots of fraying bits on my trim. Yes, I could cut them off but for $120 I know this could/would become bothersome.

I am in like/not LOVE and I surprisely LOVED my Dauphine I got a couple of weeks ago in the mail. So while the jacket is pretty just not $120 pretty or something I know I would wear a lot.

I know I would grab another jacket I already own first before this one.
"Thanks!" again to ajc & Summer for their great reviews of this jacket!

What are your thoughts on the Lollipop Ribbon Jacket? Have you seen or own this jacket? If so, what is your review of the fabric & cut ? Would you recommend it to another fellow JCA?

Madewell: Spring's coolest jacket

"Thanks!" to Marietta & Jaden, who shared the latest email Madewell (click here) sent yesterday.

The email features the Cropped Suede Biker Jacket ($298.00) which is described as the following: "soft, weathered suede in a cool vintage shape— it's beyond covet-worthy".

I am usually not a fan of cropped jackets although this one looks okay. But the price tag totally kills my budget, so it is "a pass" on that point alone. ;)

What are your thoughts on the Cropped Suede Biker Jacket? Do you like or dislike the style?

J.Crew's Camouflage-Print Military Jacket for Women

"Thanks!" to Rosa in DC who shared with us a J.Crew-spotting in Washington Post's DC Scout (click here) newsletter for March 2010.
The item featured is the Printed Lieutenant Jacket (Item 22562; $128.00) which J.Crew lovingly describes it as:
One of our favorites of the season, with an authentic camouflage print and true-to-tradition military details such as twill taping and buttoned epaulets. Borrowed from the boys styling with a fit that's slightly shrunken (and unfailingly feminine), and finished with a special wash to give it that broken-in, had-it-forever feel.
I do like the style of some military jackets. I especially adore the Downtown Field Jacket (Item 19034; $148.00) which I was able to snag last winter. (I love, love, love that jacket!) However, when I saw the Printed Lieutenant Jacket in-person I couldn't help think that the camouflage-print limits the jacket (in terms of what to wear it with and where to wear it). Ultimately, I wasn't thrilled with it.

Lastly, Fashion Dork shares a real-life image of this jacket over at her "J Crew new arrivals-lieutenant jacket, toothpick z..." post. (She looks great in the jacket by the way.) :)

Do you like the camouflage print? What are your thoughts on this jacket? Have you tried it on or seen it in-person? If so, please share! :)

Product Review: Mint Tweed Griffin Coat

Mint Tweed Griffin Coat
Item 20401
Regular: $395.00

With the Winter season officially here, there can never be too many reviews for J.Crew's outerwear. This time it is for the delicious Mint Tweed Griffin Coat, which J.Crew describes as:
The coat of the season in luscious mint tweed, finished with vintage-inspired faux-horn buttons and a notched hem and sleeves. It feels incredible on—it's an Italian lightweight wool that allows lots of movement while keeping you toasty warm. Wool blend. Closure anchored with interior backer buttons. Long sleeves. On-seam vertical pockets. Fully lined. Hits just above knee. Part of the J.Crew Collection.
A big "thanks!" to Modern Antique (in this post), who shared her thoughts on this coat with us. The following is her review:
I just received the mint tweed Griffin coat. I was more excited about this piece that any other this season, but I have to return it because of the fit.

I am 5'9" and always wear a size 4 in J.Crew jackets and coats. The shoulders fit just fine. Straight across the chest was more fitted. There is almost no shape to the waist-it's more of a loose/swing style. The killer was that the arms were 2" too short on me. Looking at the model wearing the coat, I think you can see sort of the same thing-the sleeves only hit her high wrist. Due to the way the sleeves are sewn, I'm not sure a tailor could lengthen them. The fabric isn't folded under, the seam is right there at the bottom edge of the sleeve.

The mint tweed fabric, however, is absolutely gorgeous. The color and the marble faux-horn buttons could not be more beautiful.

On a side note, I was disappointed with the way this item was packaged. The coat was quite rumpled when I received it. It was just folded in half over a piece of cardboard. There was no hanger or anything else to differentiate it as a collection piece.

Hope this helps.
"Thanks!" again to Modern Antique for her great review!

J.Crew Email: ENDS TODAY. 30% off all outerwear + FREE SHIPPING.

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following email J.Crew sent today.

It is another reminder email that J.Crew has two promotions ending today. First, they are offering 30% off all outerwear for Men (click here to shop online) and Women (click here to shop online). This offer is available both online and in brick & mortar (B&M) stores. Second, they are offering free shipping on orders of $150+ with promo code WINTER.

From the comments in previous posts, it sounds like some of you got some new Winter coats. {yey!} It is perfect timing, consider the snow storm experienced in many parts of the country today. ;) (Including where I live. Which means I have to start shoveling the snow off my driveway now.) :(

Will you be taking advantage of either promotion? If so, what items are you planning to get? If not, why (waiting for a better promotion)?

J.Crew Email: Up to 30% off select women's outerwear. Warm up now - online only.

"Thanks!" to Marietta who let us know about the most recent email J.Crew sent this morning.

J.Crew announces that they are having a sale on outerwear for Women, with prices up to 30% off. This promotion is available online (click here to shop at their website). Although I wouldn't be surprised if brick & mortar (B&M) stores would offer a similar promotion. This offer expires this Wednesday, 11/4/09.

Also, as many of you JCAs noticed, the sale section (click here) updated this morning by increasing stock and even lowering prices for several items. It's a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the free shipping (no minimum) promo code LOVEJCREW which expires today, 11/2/09.

Will you be taking advantage of the outerwear promotion? Are there any coats that you are interested in getting? What are your thoughts on the outerwear selection this season (impressed or disappointed)? :)

J.Crew Email: Here's the skinny...

"Thanks!" to many of you, including Marietta, who shared the following email with us.

The email promotes J.Crew denim (click here to shop online) with a feature on the Ankle Stretch Toothpick Jean in Twilight Wash (Item 16719; $125.00). The email states:
You can do skinny. (Trust us) Our super skinny toothpick jean in a chic new ankle length.
Oh, how I want to trust you J.Crew. {sigh} Unfortunately, the skinny jeans look just does not work for my pear shape frame.

The outfit above also includes Silk Ruffle Cascade Jacket (Item 20942; $188.00). I have seen this jacket in my local brick & mortar (B&M) stores and don't know if I like it or not. I can't decide if I like the ruffles or its ruffle overload.

What are your thoughts on the Ankle Toothpick Jeans? Do you like the skinny jean look? Thoughts on the Ruffle Cascade Jacket? Are the ruffles a lovely or over-the-top feature?
