J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Styling the stewart plaid primaloft jacket, ruffle scoop neck top, and high rise denim on the blog today. I'm also styling the stewart plaid loafers from a couple years ago. Jacket runs TTS to a little big -- I went with the small. I sized down in the top to XS.

    3. Thanks, Farah! The jacket is pretty cute. I've been able to wear it up until recently -- getting ready for our first winter storm now!

  2. I've been wanting to check out my local J Crew brick & mortar store but w/holiday shoppers and covid restrictions...I don't know how long the line would be to get in to shop there.

I might get brave next week & check it out or else lay low & go after all the holiday fuss is over. Hoping to check out the sales racks, as they are usually excellent at my local shop.

    1. Hopefully you get a chance when it's slow. Does your store offer private shopping time before and after close? I got an email from mine about this, but I don't live somewhere bustling.

  3. I'm trying to stop JC shopping now and wait for the January online sales and popbacks. I bought enough this month, ha. I think a lot of my Crew orders are going to start showing up in the next few days. I've been looking for a cloth/wool coat and saw Nordstrom has some Everlane cocoon coats at half off right now...decided to try one in the camel color. At least with Nords I can return for free, unlike Everlane where they only give credit for returns or else you have to pay to return.

  4. Men's Pajama pant in flannel print
    Item AT254
Bought for myself in XS. At 5'3" these are so much better than I expected! They're actually snug. I usually take a women's XS in jammie bottoms, but with stress weight, I could do S. These make me happy. Warm flannel, the print is so J.Crew and upbeat, and only about 3" too long. Classic and keeping. Wish we had more like this for women. I am longing for the ski holiday postcard print days.

A beautiful disappointment. I couldn't get it on in XXS. The satin-finish top I've recently purchased have been XXS and a perfect fit. This was confusing. Sigh. I *LOVE* the sleeve. I tried it in Dark Spruce which is a flattering color for me. I'll see if I can get an XS or even S. Overall, this top doesn't look super expensive, but the unique sleeve and nice color are worth another try for me. I would wear this for Christmas.

Collection silk twill ruffle-collar top in plaid

Ermagerd love. Can't believe this was $18. I bought XXS Dark Spruch which is the navy/green plaid. Colors are flattering since I'm blue-eyed brunette. Hourglass shape and it fits like the model. Not entirely tailored and form-fitting, but skimming. I thought I would hate the ruffle but I kind of want to go with it. I paired it with navy Patagonia sweats and the green velvet Avery block heel pumps from a year or two ago. I work in a sports environment so I can't do full dressy without notice. Worked for me. Also, sooooo comfortable. Like a t-shirt. Considering other colors. Surprise love. P.S. I recently took off a lot of hair and went for an Audrey Hepburn look, so this helps balance the crazy ruffles. Maybe that's partly why I like it right now.

    Item AU248
Another half-surprise love in XXS Navy. Fits beautifully and in the dark color the ruffles aren't quite so noticeable. Normally I look best in clean lines, but also in delicate feminine details, and this top is really well balanced. It looks tailored and isn't flouncy. The ruffles follow the lines, and the bracelet sleeves add even more clean structure. It falls nicely along my back and front, and the silky sheen is really pretty. If you have seen the short sleeve tulip sleeve top this is a similar finish. I love both.

Slim wide-leg jean in Misty Surf wash
    Item AN062
Sigh. If my figure was in perfect form I'd probably really like these. As is, they're super stretchy and seem to show all flaws, almost like white jeans. I like jeans to be jeans, not jeggings. These fall in between for me. I like the rise and wash, and they seem on trend, so I wish they worked. If you're in great shape and you want comfort they're be lovely. I tried a 26, and thought they fit fine, just didn't find them structured or flattering.

  5. High-rise tapered pant in lightweight wool
    Item AR433
I see why people love these. As mentioned, I have an hourglass figure, and am short-ish, so while these aren't a curvy fit, they are surprsingly flattering. I think they run a size small. I bought a 4. Because of my waist, I can sometimes fit into a 0 or XS in skirts. I can't get the 4 buttoned. Since I'm plumper than ever (total pandemic wine belly), I"ll keep these. They fit everywhere else. I'll have to hem a few inches, but not as much as I anticipated. They are leg lengthening, and finally, a trad wool pant with a high rise! The black and dark brown is kind of cool, not dowdy. Sophisticated pant. Could make it fun with random color or keep it neutral.

    Cecile smoking slippers in leather
    Item AQ135
Wore these tonight for some reason, well, boots left at work, in 30 degree weather. I was fine! These come broken in, and there seems to be padding on the footbed which provides not only comfort but a little insulation. After strolling by holidy lights, my toes were cold, but I can't believe they weren't frozen. The leather didn't stiffen in the cold, and I had no rubbing on my sockless feet. These are a good price right now. I briefly saw them for $30 which is criminal! I think I paid $50 and that is very fair. I wore the brown and also ordered the black. Today I paired it with cut-off denim, a cozy sweater and a chateau parka and enjoyed the look and feel.

Overall pleased with my recent purchases and think they're a really good value.

  6. There will be new cashmere color releases coming up soon in more blues, greens, yellows, orange/coral shades. If you’re not in a hurry to purchase the cashmere crew neck sweaters or other cashmere items wait unless you have discounts, coupons or whatever because the price will come down as I know from past experiences.

  7. Got the Vegan Leather Pull-On Paperbag Pants from Madewell.
Mentioned I’ve been searching for a pair of leather pants to add to my collection. Really wanted something not super tight. I’ve tried about half a dozen or more and returned them all. These went on sale and I had birthday rewards so I gave them a shot.
Today is my birthday and they just showed up in the mail like a birthday miracle. They’re now on sale for even less than I paid (right now about $28) and I would even have bought the tan at this price to wear with leopard shoes.
I chose my smaller 00 size and although I think the 0 would work too, the waist is elastic and the hips are comfortable. They are by far the best I’ve tried this fall and the least expensive. I would wear them casually for the holidays with a chunky sweater and metallic flatforms. Could dress them up with a silky blouse and heels too.
    They’re super warm also.
