J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Thoughts on new arrivals?

I'm very meh with all of it... Plus I think some of the ruffles are creeping back. :/

    2. I feel they are channeling more of a Madewell vibe

    3. Also meh for me. I was looking forward to some nice Fall pieces but this reads Summer to me. The rooster print is fun but I'm not a huge fan of the ruffle top. I think I'm sitting this one out!

    4. I'm interested in the clogs.

  2. Hello everyone, any opinions on the new arrivals? Garment-dyed Foundry pant colors are pretty but in the photos they look slim and the other baggy. Ratti prints don’t impress me. The paisley looks awful with the sleeve rolled up. The pleated button- front in the rooster print looks interesting but I hate the all of the ruffles. It’s all poly and the price is too high. I don’t mind the poly but again, the price is too high. The denim popover shirt has a nice pink, (I love everything pink) Ruffled-neck tiered popover stripe is cute and there’s one in leopard. Frankly, I’m really tired of all the leopard prints. Yes I know they’re still trendy but for me I’m over it. Kiki’s oh well, a skimmer oh well and no Cece oh no.

    1. Just finished scrolling through the new arrivals. I am seeing a more Madewell vibe with the ruffles and many of these pieces should’ve been released earlier in the season. The oval drop & stone drop earrings are pretty. Classy looking and would work well as a basic. Is anyone else with me on this: photo shopping earrings on a model is getting old? They don’t hang correctly and half the time the size looks different in real life. Just put them on a little earring stand and we can see how they look. I like the vintage paisley tunic & pant but it is too summery for now & with the wide leg it really looks like PJs. The Aqua paisley pant is pretty and the (brown?) background makes it a little more fall-ish. Ratti paisley shirt is pretty. I love paisley & have purchased so much this season already (kickout pant, Ratti paisley bow back top, drape button-up shirt in both turquoise & green plus the matching pant) that I probably don’t need anymore. The high rise silk mini-windowpane pant looks nice but where is the matching top for the hookup that they mention in the description?. Most of the sweaters & shirts or basics & versions of what I already have. Shoes are mostly basics. It looks like the Gemma is back. I do like the Kikis in pink leopard haircalf & fall plaid with snake print. Autumn tweed dress and matching jacket is pretty but not needed for my work style. Overall I found a few things to like but not sure if I will add anything to my overstuffed closet At this point I am done with buying warm weather clothes & long for pretty fall tweed!

    1. I agree on the jewelry. The only thing that caught my eye was some of the earrings as I mentioned above.

    2. If we got the 40% off, I'd would buy a few things. The prices are too high on the Cdn site.

    3. Just FYI the 70% off sale is still ongoing in Canadian stores. Picked up the Ratti regatta shirt for $30 today, while it’s still $173 on the website. Call the stores if there’s something you’re looking for in the sale section. 25% off regular prices in store but I didn’t see any of this latest rollout yet

  4. prices...sky high for Canada. over a $100 for a poplin white shirt. you could get this anywhere. from J Crew I would like something more special.

  5. Those Kikis! Wishlisted the pink leopard and the plaid snakeprint one. Also love the striped sweaters, both long sleeve and short sleeve, in brown. Very fall like and while it’s too early to wear them I def have wishlisted them.

  6. I’m not in the market for much...that said...
The red and pink paisley in the dress looks so 1970s (or 60s, sort of a cross) but in the tunic i think it’s fun, however I would only wear a print like that in small doses so I wish they would make it in a scarf of bandana.

Some of the kikis are very cute, however from experience I know they are not a shoe my feet can be in for long stretches so they’re not a great value for me. I love the black with the ivory CAPTOE, already have the reverse and haven’t worn them in years. But in a moment of weakness who knows...

Some of the jewelry looks cute. Not much with the clothing caught my eye.

  7. Looked at new arrivals a couple of times. I like the Jackie cardigan in violet and block heel slingback snakeskin pumps. Aqua paisley print is pretty: like the blue and brown mix. Ribbed sweater in dark lake stripe is nice too. Like the colors and merino wool. With a decent sale I’ll purchase the stripe sweater and cardigan. I have most of what I need for fall and winter from late spring and July summer sales.

    1. I like those snakeskin sling backs too, but I have the colorblock ones from last year and even though the shapes are different I feel it would be redundant to buy another pair.

  8. I'm with most of you, nothing I like better than what I already have.

I received the final item from the 72% sale, the Collection burgundy sequin pencil skirt. I've been eyeing this for like a year, so when the price was around $13 it seemed wrong not to try. It's really a nice skirt, better construction than the current sequin items. The color, a brown/burgundy, works with black (easy enough in my closet) and also with my dark leopard blouse. I didn't dig out my winter sweaters to look. For sequins it is not flashy, almost looks like leather. Still few popbacks happening on this one.

  9. really disappointed w this rollout. its sooo late in the summer for this! and i think j crew is leaning a little too southern prep/lilly/vv for me. these prints are too much. and im in that weird age area where the wrong fit, color and shape make me look dowdy and old. ugh jcrew. bring on fall!!

    1. I was into vintage prints quite a few years back. not anymore.
not into too many ruffles anymore either.

    2. jcrew is definitely built to be a fall brand to me. that season really can't come soon enough!

    3. Swp in nova, I hadn’t thought about the prints looking like lilly but now that you said it I can see it. Totally not my thing either.

  10. Finally checking out the new arrivals and I agree with much of what was already said. So many ruffles and I'm not looking to pay full price on summer items in mid-August. Clothing reads summer but then the shoes are all fall which is confusing. I really don't need anything - I'll be working from home now through the end of the year and likely in to next year so it's becoming more and more apparent that I'm going to need to start paring down the work closet at some point.

  11. I finally got my sale order from July 31. I received the high rise pleated linen pants in the 0 and the linen tunic in a small.

Here is a case of why i need to try on several pants sizes. The 00 I bought in store fit measurement wise but after I got them I realized I would prefer them looser. The 0 are ok and honestly I might even like them baggier just because of how the rise works. Oh well, so I have an extra. In my experience with the Rhodes linen pants they had a lot of give so maybe the 00 will end up being fine. I decided they’re nice pants when I want to wear something dressier than my cotton pants or my pleated tencel Everlane pants. 😆 I mean at some point in time.

The tunic is big and somewhat stiff and boxy. I’m hoping steaming will help. The wide sleeve and sleeve length do nothing for me, I have to cuff them. But I like that it’s less fitted through the shoulders and torso than most of my other black shirts so hopefully I will make use of it. Definitely NOT long enough to wear as a cover up without shorts underneath.

I mentioned buying The lace up sandals, (With the low heel) and think this was a really good purchase. The look good with all the pants I’ve tried

    1. If you soak linen overnight in a mix of either vinegar or baking soda (not both unless you want to make a volcano!) and water it should soften up. Then wash it out, of course. Use 1 cup vinegar or 1/2 cup soda to a gallon.
