JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. poshmark question (no idea where else to ask this)

what happens when you return something? i had bought a sweater (NWT from a long time posher) and it was too good to be true. there was a small hole near the neckline. i honestly think it was something that she just missed. and i'm not trying to be a jerk about it but i did open a case and a return was granted. but i feel really bad about it... especially since i would have tried to fix it had the hole been in a different spot. but now i just got a pair of pants that were supposed to be in "perfect" condition but the hems are undone and i have to pay to have that fixed. i don't want to return them since i can fix it, but i feel like i want to give a review that the description wasn't honest. so how can i relate that to the sellers?

    1. You can leave a comment under the item even after it’s purchased.

    2. That is, if you don’t want to return them... if you do I’m assuming you know the protocol since you’ve done it before.

I’ve dealt with two returns. One, a sweater someone purchased from me. It was that jcrew wool cashmere blend that pills even when it’s not worn, as you can see on the racks in the stores. She complained and poshmark credited her but she was able to keep the garment. I think I kept my earnings too, and it wasn’t much. (My photos were very clear, FWIW it’s not like I lied about anything, I explained that’s the nature of that material.)

Another time I received an item, ivory pants that the seller claimed were new. They did have a tag, but there was markings from a belt and the lining was all yellowed. Seller claimed she kept them stored in their own ziplock bag and didn’t even look prior to shipping, which is possible...had they been stored in plastic or two years it makes sense they would yellow. I got a refund but had to ship the pants back.

    3. Oh and the falling pants hem issue is terrible. It has happened on several of my jcrew shorts and I don’t know how to fix it! Once I tried fabric glue but the material was so thin it was visible. I can stitch a seam or a button but not sure I can handle this hem situation.

    4. i'm just going to bring the pants to my tailor to have the hems fixed. i wish there was some way (like on ebay) where i can make a public review about the item and transaction. in my cases, i think the hole in the sweater was an honest mistake that she missed it. the pants are totally obvious and i would have negotiated down farther to compensate for the addition cost of repairing the hems

    5. I had a situation where I asked the seller for measurements for a LN Camerons and she referred me to JCrew’s size chart. When they arrived they were way off the size chart since as many of us know, Camerons vary widely depending on fabric. These fit a full size smaller. I didn’t want to make a fuss bc I didn’t pay much after a coupon was applied but in my review of the transaction I noted that I had asked for info and didn’t get it. The seller saw my review and offered to take them back for a refund, but I didn’t bother since I didn’t pay that much out of pocket.

    6. I would contact POSHMARK support and ask for a credit for the repair then. One hundred percent.

    7. I would absolutely contact Poshmark and ask for a lower price due to the hem issue. Let's face it, they are damaged.
