Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Yes, I’m going after work. Returning jeans and possibly the studded leopard shoes. I’m concerned a stud could fall out, in which case I’d never wear them. Suz suggested I email CS and specifically ask what their return policy is if that occurs, which I did yesterday. Hoping they reply before I go to the store.

The camel Sadie boots I ordered during the great sale were cancelled. They popped back yesterday morning and were too slow. This morning I got them. I did send an email requesting they honor the price before cancelling 4 days ago. We shall see. I think it would be awful of them to refuse.

    1. Let us know, Cheri - I'm interested to hear how they handle the PA request relative to cancelled/exchanged orders. The only time I've asked for a PA is when I receive an item that I want to exchange for another size, but it was on sale + % when I ordered and isn't by the time I receive it. It hasn't been an issue, but I wonder if they're going to try a blanket "No PA's on sale items" and see what kind of feedback they get.

    2. I ordered the poppy suede flats in pink in a size too small during that crazy sale. I saw a bigger size in stock and just reordered. One of the reps told me that they will honor price adjustments for order exchanges.

      Delete
    3. I wouldn’t even consider that technically a PA in either case. If they canceled an item that then shows up of course they should honor the price you originally were paying. It’s in your order history I’m sure. Same with an exchange, it should be an even exchange. You shouldn’t pay more for a different size for otherwise the same item.

    4. I ordered a pair of earrings on April 3 and sadly my order was cancelled yesterday. I was kind of expecting this after three consecutive emails reassuring me that my order would ship soon. I asked them if they would honor the price I originally paid, should they pop back. Let’s see what they answer.

    5. Silver, yes I am curious if they now say no PA's on anything as well. Fingers crossed!
DD, that is good to know, I'm glad to hear they accommodated!
Suz, ITA but you never know...
Fleur, we can compare answers :)

    7. Sorry for all the posts!

Well, I'm returning the leopard studded shoes. As per J. Crew -
"For online orders, we gladly accept the return of defective merchandise within 30 days of the ship date." Of the three reviews online, one says she lost two studs within the first day of wear. Not risking it. I'd probably lose two studs on day 31!

      Delete
    8. Update: CS did the PA on the cancelled and reordered boots with no issues.

      Delete
    9. After my experience with instantly losing the studs from a pair of Kate Spade studded shoes, I determined that the best approach was to purchase a package of several hundred hotfix pyramid studs and bedazzle an inexpensive pair of shoes myself. That way when the studs inevitably fell off I could shrug and replace them rather than having a rage stroke!

  2. I received the denim superga 2750 sneakers. I ordered my smaller size and possible could have still gone down a half, but not sure that would work on my long toes, but the foot is slightly loose . There is a very subtle sparkle to the denim that’s not really visible online. Waiting to see how they look with the denim trench before I decide 100 percent on keeping them or not.

    1. Subtle sounds promising! That could be a winning combo, keep us posted.

      Delete
    2. I hadn’t noticed those before, they’re very cute!
How do you plan to style the denim trench?

      Delete
    3. I was thinking of an alternative to a shorter denim or chore jacket and since a belted trench style is flattering for me thought the denim variation would be a slightly more casual option over black or denim wide leg crops or white/bone pants. I ordered the older one with the collar (similar to Madewell denim duster) not the newer version that is collarless.
When it was released it was also shown worn as a dress but I don’t think that will work for me.

      Delete
    4. Got the trench. On the fence. It’s very straight with no defined waist and the buttons are straight down. If I wrap it like a trench it feels like a denim bathrobe. I will have to try a few ways. The material is nice denim.

      Delete
    5. @Suz, I tried the collarless denim trench and returned. My husband said it looked like a butcher coat from the back. It was not tailored enough. I thought it would be unusual and cute, but it was just unusual.

      Delete
    6. This is the collared one. I totally see what he means by that! I do wish this was more tailored but it’s really comfortable and easy to throw on. I also like the big pockets. Right now I’m leaning towards keeping it because I do think it can be a workhorse layering piece. Tried to style it a few ways so I’ll post pics on IG. @ wearthislikethis

    7. Good, I will look forward to seeing them.

I received shoes I ordered during the last sale on sale.
The Biella crackled leather loafers E0843 are truly lovely, and very comfortable. They are the last of the Italian leather shoe/sole styles. I'm also happy with Suede V-cut pumps J8211. I sized up 1/2 on these and that was a good call. And the adorable d'Orsay pumps in berry print G0925. I might have sized up due to the pointy toe, but they only had my regular size and it's ok. Plus Nordic boots F8444 in dune (beige). The suede has some wrinkles, but for the price these are perfect. I'm ashamed I bought so many shoes, but I have to admit that all together they cost no more than one pair at a good sale price. I totally see why J Crew has to cut out the PA's.

  3. I stopped in last night to return a 1988 Rollneck I ordered last week as a “spare” - it had a few snagged threads. A long-time SA at my store said it is her understanding that the “No PAs on sale items” is a permanent change, and they are getting blowback from customers.

I’m conflicted on this. I want J Crew to survive. I think we have been spoiled with endless stacking promos, free shipping, teacher discounts, and PAs, all the while expecting impeccable customer service, lengthy return windows, and monthly new
rollouts while paying 75% off. It’s not sustainable for them, and they certainly can’t improve quality with those margins. So, I understand why they are tightening up some of these policies. J Crew is on life support.

    1. @ruffles I totally agree with you. I prefer them to stay in business

    2. Yeah, retraining customers is going to be difficult, if not impossible. Remember around the beginning of this blog when an extra 20% off sale (or a coupon from the catalog!) was cause for celebration, as was the rare free ship/no minimum code? Then one year (2010-11, maybe) there was the 30% tiered promo at Thanksgiving and everybody went nuts. Now 30% off seems... meh. The quality's not great, so everybody wants to pay the lowest price possible but they can't improve if they're not making any money. I don't see any way out of this hole they're in - they're definitely in "survive, not thrive" mode.

      Delete
    3. It’s definitely not an easy situation.

      Delete
    4. Silver_Lining, I totally remember the days when 20% sale PLUS free shipping was the rarest of unicorns. Today, everyone expects 75% off and rightfully so, given the disposable quality of virtually everything they sell. It’s a death spiral and I don’t know how they get out.

      Delete
    5. Is there a middle ground where they can boost the quality and styles a bit while decreasing promos? Or is this something only JCA's would tolerate from the brand?

      Delete
    6. I was buying steadily from J. Crew before they started the wild promotion phase though. I didn't mind paying for a Schoolboy blazer or wool trousers that fit me well or well made Italian leather boots etc. They haven't always done the crazy pricing changes and promotions that led us to ask for price adjustments and a crazy buy and return cycle. They brought that on themselves, and they can undo it (IMO) but only if they offer something good at the higher prices. They can sell less expensive merchandise too, if it is priced right to begin with. Customers get used to things. They probably could have handled this PA change better by warning customers and grandfathering in purchases for a couple of months or something like that. It seems like it's taken customers by surprise.

  4. I'm going to do returns for a few things, including a dress I bought in 4 and 6. Sleeveless pleated A-line dress in two-way stretch wool K7879. The 4 fits better, though I could use an extra 1/2 inch on top (husband disagrees) . In 6 the waist and hips are baggy. This is a lovely dress, feminine and both modest (high scoop neck) and flirty (knee length pleats). The pink (peony) is so pretty with the d'Orsay berry pumps that arrived the same day. Totally a keeper! It is a summer weight wool, very light. T

  5. I made returns today. I returned the pink cactus shirt - it was fine but I only keep things now if I love them, and I didn't love it. It is nice quality though. The cacti are stitched in two different greens, not stamped onto the fabric. I also returned the Saturday Sneakers in Silver Suede. They were really shiny. I shouldn't have been surprised. For some reason, I thought the suede would make it a duller , more washed out silver. There was nothing wrong with the sneakers, but I didn't really need them in the first place.

I also stopped by a Mercantile store and bought the Wrap-tie T-shirt. It was 60% off, which is nice, but should that t-shirt really have been $42.50 in the first place?

Most of the stuff in the store looked cheap and familiar. I also tried on the V-neck top with empire waist, but the V-neck was super low in my size. I wonder if anyone tries this stuff on before they decide to mass produce it. It wasn't even a sexy style top; there was no reason for it to be so low. I wanted to buy it, why did they ruin it?!

  6. Going to stop in for a few online returns. Stores have 30% off purchase and 40% off if you spend $200 or more. Promo includes sale. Called CS (they matched in store promo) and placed an order for leopard calf hair Nordic boots since my size was available. They’re final sale, but I ordered previously and found they ran small. So, I know that I really like the look and they will work well next winter. Received vintage straight eco jean in medium wash. Fit tts in Tall 29. Returning Girls, Inc. sweatshirts and Liberty downtown field jacket. Fit is tts in both, Not a love, so decided not to keep them. Received Stubbs & Wooton celebrate loafers and I ordered a half size up. That was the right call. They’re well done and look forward to wearing them. Also received pointed-toe bow slides in gray velvet. Seem to fit tts, but I have a half size larger on order to compare.

Decided to order a few promo items since Retailmenot is stacking with heysummer. Prices are so reasonable. Ordered linen roll cuff tees in rich gold & navy, Point Sur linen blend shorts in vintage rose and golden mustard, and SZ Blockprint scarf in red. I really like linen for warmer temps and hoping these will work. SZ collab is one of my favorites and the scarves work so well for travel. Bought two last summer and they work well as a travel accessory and on the beach as a pareo.

    1. Received a few more orders today. Italian cashmere featherweight bodysuit in navy. Spring 2017 and arrived new with tags. I wasn’t sure about whether I would like this or not because I don’t wear bodysuits. Well, it’s really nice and I like it; definitely heavier than other featherweight J Crew cashmere that I have. Matches Parke double cashmere blazer and it will work well as a layering piece. Top stitched midi skirt in stretch linen. I ordered up 1 size because of reviews and that was the right call. It’s a really nice skirt. Need to try it with a few options before deciding. I don’t reach for skirts enough, so need to make sure I’ll actually wear it.

  7. The only item missing from my last order is the leopard gladiator sandals. I sized up to a 9 which was all that was available so they might be too big.
On the other hand I received the Pointed-toe slingback flats in metallic cracked-leather which I love but the 8.5 is too small. I’m part tempted to wear them a bit to loosen them up but the elastic on the slingback hurts so why take a chance. I loved these from the beginning but the red option is very orange, and I don’t need black and have the cap toe slingbacks in snakeskin so this was it.

I mentioned the denim trench and supergas above, and decided to keep both. The supergas are very comfortable for me. We like to walk to dinner in warmer weather so it’s good to have a selection of casual sneaks for when I need more comfort than flats or sandals or if the weather is iffy.

Tall collared popover shirt in piece-dyed cotton-linen in white, XS is exactly what I hoped. I have several white linen bottoms but this also looks great with my denim and black Everlane wide leg crops. It has a Madewell vibe but fit is less boxy especially in the longer length. It’s not totally opaque but I’ll just wear a nude or white bralette and not stress it.

I ordered several burkelman candles which I love, but at least one arrived broken even though it was wrapped in paper and bubble wrap.

Finally I ordered a spare pair of Nordic boots and will give them to a daughter.

  8. Just got back from a week in Portugal and I’m trying to catch up on the threads while I was gone. Seems like JC quietly changed their return policy for online orders from 60 to 30 days? I received an order before I left and after I left, and noticed the difference between the order that shipped April 1 and April 5. I’m surprised by the no sales PA policy that is actually being enforced for the first time... when did that start? On the day I left, there was that massive sales update and I placed an order, and by the time I landed in Europe, I saw the additional % off and requested a PA. The next day, the request was granted. Now they’re not allowing sales PA anymore? This happened so fast!

  11. The mail-in return process is so slow and annoying. I'm close enough to the returns center that when I send a box via UPS at 3pm it's delivered in Breinigsville PA the next morning. However, it takes JC a week to process what's in the box but they don't do it all at once - sometimes it's up to another week to get return confirmation emails for things that were shipped together. I have no idea why it takes them so long, but I can see this bumping up against the new 30-day return policy. I'm sure CS wouldn't give you a hard time if you provided the tracking number showing the return was delivered in the timeframe, but it's another thing that the customer has to manage. It feels like I'm sending my returns into the abyss!

    1. Should think they would have to go with the shipping date, since that is how they measure the start of the 30 days. I've noticed that I get a shipping message as much as two days before the package actually starts tracking.

I try and do all returns at a store if I can, that way you are sure to get the proper credit.

  14. Does anyone know what the return charge is for items ordered online and shipped to Canada. A ordered a few things but some of them just don’t fit (too tight, cut is off) and need to return them. The Customer service rep told me it would be $25. This was never the case before. Think I might be ending my relationship with J Crew.

    Replies
    1. Hi. Yes. I think that if you are shipping it back to J Crew from Canada using their return service, it is $25 (I think it may be $25 US, but not sure). Your other options are 1) return to a Canadian store for free - but not every one has a store close by; 2) mail back on your own using Canada Post - may be cheaper than $25.

$25 is a lot, but this is the sort of fee many US retailers charge for Canadian returns. The exception is Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy - but they have a warehouse/distribution center in Canada and they are not shipping across the border.

If you paid for your return using PayPal, they have a return fee refund service that (with certain limitations) would reimburse you the amount you pay to either the retailer or the a shipping service provider to return online purchases.

Even though I have a couple of stores I can get to, I pay for all my online purchases now with PayPal, for this return protection.

      Good luck.

  17. Well, here’s something annoying I haven’t seen in a really long time: items on the US site are on super-sale, but on the CDN site they’re not. So a perfect tee is marked down to $15 USD ($9 after discount), but full-price $38.50 CAD ($23.10 after discount). I sincerely hope this isn’t a sign of things to come. I noticed it on at least two items, I can’t be bothered to look at any others, and am afraid of what I’ll find.

  18. The white slingbacks are finally a fair price with the discount and promo. I’ve been searching and haven’t found anything I like besides the Everlane ones and it doesn’t make sense to spend $145 on this color that will be infrequently worn.
