J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Hey, it updated! Sadly not seeing anything to get too excited about.

    1. Thanks for sharing! Hopefully it is updated more later. Though a few of the items are up on the site. Loving the cotton poplin midi and the ruffle one shoulder midi in navy and white Rick rack. Both will be great for my Europe trip and the striped dress will work well for work this spring and summer!

    2. There’s a nice looking pair of high waisted linen shorts. But the colors are all really light. Most of the clothing is way too boho for my taste.

    3. Like the linen v neck sleeveless tees. I would prefer no pocket, but will order a couple with a decent promo (navy and Spanish clay). This is a basic that I really like for spring and summer. Looks like a pair of drawstring linen shorts is also coming since they’re shown with the tank. Will be interested in those too.

    4. I also see a gorgeous linen type dress in French blue with the circle straw bag. Excited for that.

    6. That's a super casual "rollout." Kinda beachy and nondescript. Not that I want to see super formal clothes but these are very beach cover up like. I'm guessing there'll be more items to come.

    7. I hope rickrack isn't going to be their next big thing.

    8. "mom jeans" (L4733) ? That's an unfortunate product name. The one-shoulder ruffle dress with waist tie is pretty in the navy/white. I don't have any use for nearly everything in this rollout though. Far too beachy/relaxed for this time of year. It was 36 degrees this morning! I went to Hawaii two weeks ago and even there it was not warm enough to wear most of this.

    9. I thought the same re: mom jeans except I've seen them billed as such at several other retailers. However the photo looks like a pair of straight jeans. I had trouble getting the images to load on the early access page but saw more items if I searched pre-order. I like that ivory point sur sweater but that has even bigger holes than the other one...lol. Very casual. Hopefully more items in the full rollout.

    10. I don’t get why these are Mom jeans. I’ve seen other retailers use the term as well, but it’s inconsistent in terms of which silhouette they match. I just bought high-waist/straight leg jeans from UNIQLO that they call High-rise Cigarette jeans.
I really like the colours in the multi-colour sandals, but I won’t buy mules as I rarely wear the ones I have. I’m also hoping they don’t go all-in on rick-rack pieces.

    11. I always thought "mom jeans" had pleats in the front. The Saturday Night Live mom jeans segment still makes me giggle. Agree with everyone that it is an unfortunate (and not accurate) product name. Please, don't go all in on the rick rack like they did with the gingham (which I love) and the word tees (do NOT love). Really, really over the word tees and they are everywhere now!

    12. May rollout is the week of the 15th

    13. They had a few ric rac items a few years ago (I'm recalling a navy pencil skirt with kelly green trim and maybe a white one too?) It didn't last so hopefully it won't last this go around either!

    14. Not impressed with this particular roll-out. Bizarrely enough, the only thing I am interested in is the convertible fanny pack (words I never would have imagined I could say!). Between the rickrack trim, the polka dots, the high-waisted shorts and all that rayon and nylon, I feel like my grandmother would have rocked this collection back in the 70s.
But I am glad to see the featherweight cashmere is back, even though the shapes are rather uninspired.

    15. @shopalot, agree about the tees. I wouldn't be caught dead parading around where I live or even in Italy in the these crazy silly tees except for the Tanti Baci. The others scream American Tourist" and I am not a tourist where I live.

    16. Lynn, I have the champagne tee and sweatshirt from Nordstrom (thanks to you for pointing it out!) That's it for me. J Crew used to have so many beautiful tees and they would sell out and never go on sale. Now the sale rack is full of these things. You would think they would get the hint and try something new, but no. Every rollout has more and more. OK, vent over! I love J Crew but really want them to go back to doing what they used to do so well.

    17. I agree. I'm not opposed to tees, but I am so tired of word tees. Give me a good graphic print tee, on a good quality fabric. I feel like lately JC's tees are either sheer and easily misshapen or American Apparel-cottonesque. I do like the collabs they did with graphic artists, those are fun.

  2. I received my big order - striped mules, striped dobby top, ruffle eyelet top, Josephine floral top, paper bag waist pull on pants, gelato and limoncello tees. I sized down in the pants and still could go another size down but man are they cute and comfortable! They look great with all sorts of tops tucked in. The mules are going back. I sized up because the toe looked quite exaggerated but that was the wrong call - stick with your regular size. Not sure if I’ll reorder, I never find mules all that comfortable. The dobby top is going back. The exaggerated shape at the shoulders was not flattering on me. The Josephine floral and ruffle eyelet top are both keepers. The ruffle eyelet top is quite wide on bottom but I’ll always tuck into a skirt or pants. The tees are fine. Not sure I’ll keep both. I like the gelato tee better and can see myself packing this for Europe.

    1. Hi Liz, I just received the Josephine LIberty Print and it is huge on me in my regular size. I was shocked because I have the flora belle and it fits perfectly. I was also disappointed that the fabric stopped at the cuff. They cut corners. Sending back and disappointed because the color is so very pretty. I'm happy the fit is good for you. Enjoy!

  3. SZ Blockprint tiered maxi dress. Fit is tts. Print is really pretty and the cotton will be perfect for warmer temps. Straps are adjustable and while I usually wear a strapless bra with this type,of dress, I’m thinking about trying the bra sew-in trick that was shared last week.

    1. Glad you like it too! Please report back if you try the bra sew-in trick. I have not attempted it yet. I love this dress.

    2. @Mygoddy,agree about the linen tees. I don't understand why they had to put pockets on them because they're in such pretty colors. I did however, order two in the canary yellow and vivid azalea to to try.

    3. @Cate Glad it has worked for you too and I’ll update if I try the trick.

Received SZ Blockprint reversible jacket with navy/white and I really like it. Pink side pairs perfectly with Kitty dress in the same print. I know some aren’t a fan, but this dress style works well for me for vacation and casual days. Also received denim sleeveless shell and this is a keeper too. Fit was tts for all items.

@Lynn Hope they work for you. I missed the canary yellow in the tee, so I need to check it out.

    4. I was down on the kitty dress when I first got it but I wore it on vacation in Hawaii and LOVED it. In NYC the print and colors were too much but somewhere tropical they made sense. Also loved that it’s not as sheer as coverups so I could wear it from the beach to a restaurant without showing everyone my very visible striped swimsuit!

    5. I'm going to try the SZ Blockprints Kitty dress and the tunic, too. I have the sarong in the green/blue color from last year or the year before, but it's a lot of fabric on me and I'm not sure what to do with it. It's beautiful, though, so I'm going to figure out something!

  4. I am having a real lovejones at the present for the Thelma loafers! Has anyone tried them (or perhaps I missed the conversation)? I have searched the WWW for comments and reviews but I always like to check with the keep-it-real JCAs for advice. {:<)

    1. Just looked them up, beautiful shoes! I’m curious about their “marketplace” designation. Is this a new direction for J.Crew?

    2. I have seen other sites that ship directly from the seller but I hate that you have to return directly to the seller rather than the store where purchased. I am getting that shoe-return-at- Anthro feeling...ugh! I am hoping that this does not become the norm for the 'Crew.

  5. the "cardlove" promo was still working for 25% off. I saw the ryan loafers in pink were on sale and I'd been waiting for a good price on those... with "cardlove" and the famous retailmemot promo (how is that still working? I must have used it 5 times by now), prices were pretty good. Also threw in a liberty bandana in the kayoko floral because I'm just fantasizing about cute florals and warmer weather at this point :)

  8. H8871 Packable straw hat is very nice but unfortunately too small for me in size M-L. A great deal if the fit is right! I’m happy to see J.Crew offer 2 sizes in some hats rather than one-size-fits-all, but an even bigger size would be most welcome.

    1. Bummer about the hat. I have a big head too so I feel your pain! My older J.Crew straw hat (which got crushed due to my laziness traveling) was a L/XL which works ok for me. For our last vacation I tried another M/L J.Crew hat and it was a no go but I did find a few at Old Navy that worked out - a women's L/XL larger floppy hat and a men's straw fedora (also L/XL actually ) that was on clearance. I wore the fedora almost our entire beach vacation back in January.

    2. Thanks, Anne! It’s a drag trying to find hats! I’ve also had luck with some men’s hats. I have a Columbia size L hat that fits, but it’s shades of orange so not always the look I want.

  9. @shopalot and eeps, I don't know if you remember this expression years ago in the 80's but I had a bumpersticker on my car that said "Good Girls Go to Heaven, Bad Girls Go Everywhere". I thought that was the coolest expression and by no means derogatory. I wish the company would print a tee like this. There is even a book that was printed with this title and what it depicts is how powerful women are in all ways. This Jane of All Trades is stupid in my eyes. Your take?

    1. Lynn, I would totally buy that tee! 😉

    2. I’m just down on word tees in general. They remind me of that trend 10-15 years ago when everyone was buying iron on letters to DIY their own word tee. It’s also lazy design - who needs to get a degree in fashion design or print making to slap some words on a plain cotton tee?

  11. Increase in focus of organizations on digitization of their financial services and upsurge in internet users across the globe fuel personal finance software market growth. However, security and compliance issues in personal finance software and the availability of open-source finance software hamper the growth of the market. Furthermore, increased adoption of personal finance software among developing economies is expected to provide lucrative opportunities for market growth. The main purpose of personal finance software is to reduce the cost of financing by performing different tasks such as recording, analyzing, compiling, and interpreting financial data of every transaction.

  12. The growth of the industry over the forecast period is expected to be stimulated by rising demand for complex structures at affordable rates, rapid industrialization, and urbanisation. Also, the increasing tendency towards sustainable construction methods and increasing construction activities in developing countries are generating opportunities for the industry as a result. Furthermore, growing support from government regulations and policies is also expected to drive the growth of the modular construction market. Over the forecast period, however, factors such as mobility and lack of knowledge and marketing across the supply chain could hinder the growth of the industry.
