"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. My mockneck cable sweater ordered on November 26th was scheduled to ship December 3rd and the status is now waitlisted. Every product I seem to click on is backordered, the super soft mocknecks are backordered until January 25th. So much for in time for the holidays.

    1. Is this the cashmere or the cotton mockneck? I ordered both in two separate orders and both still say "in progress" for me.

    2. It was the cotton mockneck and as of this morning the transaction was no longer listed as pending in my credit card statement and the order status still says waitlisted and expected to ship Dec 3rd. I'm beginning to get a bad feeling about this.

  2. Rewards have disappeared again;-( Not going to contact customer service though as they’ll probably be back tomorrow.
Contacted Ebates about missing cash back and they corrected within a day;-)). As I said earlier, I set up a spreadsheet to check the cash back postings. Might do that for the rewards as well.

  3. So part vent, part style me...
Our holiday parties start this weekend and for the first time in ages we have three weekends of events, before Christmas. For several years we had overlapping parties which gets difficult! I mix it up between being a skirt or fancy pants or doing jeans, a blazer and heels.
I asked this weeks' hostess what she was wearing as she requested festive attire. It's supposed to be cold here so I think I'm going to go with my metallic Langford wide leg pants from Madewell from last winter. NOTE: this year they are calling them the EMMETT but it looks like the same pant.
I may repeat them again on the 22 as it's a totally different crowd and it's also a fairly fancy party where the host couple dresses up a bit.
The week in between I may break out my Parke blazer in tartan (glad I got it last year on clearance, this year they didn't make it) with slouchy jeans and heels.

    1. This is PART vent because I haven't received my orders yet and was considering wearing a few things this weekend. Now I decided to shop my closet instead,

    2. That's perfect! I'm glad you will be able to get some use out of the pant because I remember when you were on the fence about keeping them. How great you can wear them twice! You certainly have the shoes to change it up :) I saw them on the site again this year and thought of you.

    3. I've worn them a lot! I mean, for sparkly pants! 😉 for me the trick with anything like this is not feeling like I'm playing dress up, I still feel like me, only sparklier. 😂

  4. sale page (Canadian site) some price increases (a few token decreases)
but with final sale. forget it. as I have stopped shopping final sale for the past few years. no regrets.

  5. My package with the burgundy faux fur coat(s) arrived yesterday and while shipping was fast, the package was haphazardly taped together and somewhat squashed. The contents inside were wrapped well and fine but the box looked like it had been beat up quite a bit. Not the best presentation.

As far as the coat - it's a keeper. Beautiful faux fur, super soft and I'm glad I ordered two sizes because the small is a perfect fit. I originally was going with a medium and while it fits fine, comparing the two I like the fit of the small better.

    1. The colour of that coat is so pretty! Looking forward to seeing you style it.

    2. glad you have received it! so you would say it runs large. you prefer the smaller size? its still available but final sale. so I won't order...as I might be the med or the lge. with such slow (or maybe never?) shipping. I am not placing another order until the ones I have coming are received.not wanting to run up my credit card...since it took me three weeks to finally get org credit back from J Crew that they missed putting through. ugh!

    3. @shopgrrl thanks! We have tickets to Hamilton tomorrow night so thinking it may be theater worthy :) Now if the snow would hold off...

@Unknown - I'd say it's TTS to a bit big. It depends on how you'd want it to fit. My blazers are 6s and 4s and I'm usually a small top. I personally like things to look a bit more tailored - another reviewer online said the same, that they liked the larger fit vs. a more tailored fit. I'm slim through the shoulders though and have a smaller waist so probably why it works. The medium didn't look bad, it was just a looser fit than I wanted. And yes, hopefully your other orders show up soon! So frustrating :/

    4. I'm really glad you wound up liking it :)

    5. Can't wait to see how you style it, and enjoy the show!

  6. J Crew not answering emails. in the past they would within 24hrs. calling ...waited about 20 mins...

    1. I sent an email asking for help applying promo codes last Tuesday. I got a response this morning, so that's an 8-day lag. I've tried calling on three separate occasions, including one very early in the morning, and gave up after waiting 20+ minutes.

  7. Is anyone else still waiting for Cyber Monday orders to ship? I ordered two small items (earrings and a headband) and the order details claim it should arrive before or on 12/6 which is tomorrow so I don't have high hopes of getting anything in time. What is going on behind the scenes that they aren't on the ball. I don't even want to click on their website or give them any more of my money right now. This just makes me sad because I loved shopping at J.Crew back in it's heyday, nowadays not so much.

    1. I have not received an order yet and I placed three (one before Thanksgiving). Nothing has arrived yet.

    2. I would be hesitant to order anything that you might need to wear between now and Christmas unless you pay extra to ship it overnight.

      Delete
    3. agree. what is going on? are they on the verge of bankruptcy ?

      Delete
    4. yup. waiting. no clue when orders will arrive. $12 per order for this? four orders pending delivery. $48. most retailers don't charge this much..or have free shipping.

      Delete
    5. No, but I'm waiting on orders from 11/30, 12/1 and 12/3 to ship (one is Factory). No shipping notice for any of them. I placed several orders with Madewell recently with the Insider overnight shipping and got them all very quickly. I don't know how they manage to be efficient with Madewell but not with the J. Crew brands.

    6. I'm still waiting. Supposedly tomorrow for the first one. I did get two of the 9 candles I ordered today. GLASS candles in a huge box. The packing material was two haphazardly stuffed in mailing envelopes. And the worst part, I don't like the scent.

      Delete
    7. Still waiting on orders from 11/24, two from 11/26, and 12/2. And parts of an order from 12/1. Lucky none are gifts or for holiday parties.

      Delete
    8. I have not received anything yet either. One order from 11/23 shipped but not arriving until 12/10 (promised 12/5), another order from 11/26 still pending - though promised by 12/6. Have not ordered anything else because it will be January before it arrives.

    9. My order of 3 tees is supposed to arrive later today. It’s my only outstanding J.Crew order.

    10. My first partial order of three BF and CM orders arrived today, no shipping confirmation on the others. Ironically, I received the least important item - an impulse purchase of the Classic Shirt in Dog Print that I bought for me. It’s actually a keeper - great shade of navy, fits well and whimsical under a jacket
or sweater. But the rest is gifts and I hope it all ships.

  8. UPS site not updated since last Monday for my orders. what does this mean? Where is it ? when will it maybe arrive? its been 12 business days.

    1. I've had that basically with everything shipped via UPS. literally says "order processed. On route to UPS" for days and then bam! Delivered. Nothing in between.

  9. Just received an email that "part" of my order from TganksThanks weekend is shipping today. A dress I like is not on sale and also not available to ship until after December 17. WgatWh the point of ordering?? The holidays will be over before I receive anything.

  10. All if my orderes from cyber monday arrived by now and i really feel for everybody still waiting.
Also somebody returned a sunburst pleated midi (black) to my store and it came home with me.
Any ideas how to wear it,i am kind of new to the midi length. So i guess i am asking not for color suggestion but more for suggestions about proportion.

    1. I finally got one of my orders yesterday and am supposed to receive the rest later this week. I really like how @sartorialchoices has been styling midi skirts for colder weather. With tights, boots and sweaters. Her style is fabulous! Also, @crazyaboutjcrew posted an outfit with a midi skirt recently that looked great!

    6. Thanks, Ina! I like it in the photos but unfortunately won’t be able to see it in person as my local store closed 2 weeks ago (unless they bring out some Factory pieces?). The vest looks really cute and I like the shirt as well.

    11. Thanks for posting the signature plaid, Ina! I like the inclusion of the pink. It’s a little too late for me to add more holidayish plaid to my closet, but I’m anxious to see how others will style it before and after the holidays.

  12. VENT: sloppy packing. ‘Nuff said on that.

VENT: reporting that something has shipped, when in fact the only thing that happened was that a label was printed. Then the merch lays around for days - and in one case, close to 2 weeks - before it even begins to actually get going. This is bad, because it creates opportunities for loss or “shrinkage,” but also it lowers or cancels the chances of getting a price adjustment if needed. Think that one through.

VENT: retail schizophrenia, I mean dissonance, between stores and web in availability of merch, ptices, promos.

VENT: fabrics that owe more to science than nature.

VENT: website issues. I can't even.

LAST HOPE: a few wonderful, helpful and imaginative personnel remain in the stores and on the phone lines. I think of them as the Spartans at Thermopylae, Kelly’s men at Bhearn Bhaoil, the Poles at Wizna... gallant and persevering in the face of hopeless danger. I blame the financial “wizards” who convinced Drexler that creditors would be easier to deal with than shareholders. And I blame greed.

  13. VENT: I will never trust a JC product description again. Got the Point Sur ribbed turtleneck sweater in deep twilight. The color is beautiful. The description says it's soft - it's the itchiest, scratchiest wool I've ever tried on. I should have listened to the reviews. I tried it on and within 30 seconds I was itchy all over, including my throat like an allergic reaction. I'm not allergic to the materials listed so that makes me think they're not entirely truthful there either. I ordered another in a different color in a different order that I've yet to receive, and I cannot wait to return.

  14. The J.Crew credit card is so frustrating. None of the purchases I've made since Friday have posted to my account. Why is it so difficult to have real time reporting?!

    1. I don't think they change you until the item ships, so there is often a delay, now more than ever, before it shows up on the card.

  15. I feel bad for those still waiting for orders from Black Friday. I received mine yesterday and after a two week wait and I only like one of the three items. I got the long featherweight cashmere oversized cardigan in black which will be a staple for me. I also received the cashmere pullover hoodie which is cut as terribly as some reviews state. I sized down and it is just cropped and boxy. Also got the ribbed crewneck cashmere sweater. I was really looking forward to this one as I could use a navy cashmere sweater. It is not quite full length sleeves and is a bit short and boxy as well. I feel like i would wear it only until I found something better which is no reason at all to keep it. Scared to send in the returns as it will probably take 6 weeks to get the refund but with no local store I have no choice. Also still no holiday catalog for me.

  16. Although I have never used PayPal to refund my return shipping costs I have seen many questions about it from JCAs, so when I saw information about it on slickdeals today I thought some may be interested:

  17. Popcorn cable-knit sweater (K5311) is 70% (!!) nylon and 30% lambswool. I was expecting the ratio to be the other way around. Bummer. Didn't they do a similar sweater in 100% merino a year or two ago? I'm off to eBay/PM.

  18. last vent for today I promise! the leather J Crew purses of late are not very good quality IMO. My older JCrew bags are still in close to excellent condition. The new ones I have seen in store...look like hard plastic. i have not purchased any purses for about 2 yrs . I still have a continental wallet on the go from probably 5years ago. looked at the new one instore...cheap. sad.

  19. Nice to see Rynetta of jcrewismyfavstore on the jcrew meet my crew holiday campaign on jcrew Instagram and stories. I remember following her when she was invited to fashion week. Since Jcrew is not involved in fashion week anymore it was nice to see jcrew include her in their ad campaign. You can also see it on her blog page too. Shout out to JCA Rynetta!
