J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Don't know if anyone has mentioned this but pay attention when placing orders needed before Christmas. It is defaulting to after Christmas with a promise of a 25% discount for a future order. That sounds like they really are having some troubles getting orders out.

    1. oh my goodness! wow, this is just so unlike ye olde J Crew. I just sincerely wonder what the shipping issue is... labor shortage, poor logistics or what? I received my BF orders a few days ago. Ordered a coat 4 days ago and just noticed the expected arrival date is 12-20 (!).

    2. If it’s stackable with other promos, that could be a good deal if you don’t need the items before Christmas.

    3. Wasn't shipping a mess last year too? so this really isn't anything new.

      Delete
    4. No, last year, it pretty much returned to normal a week after BF/CM. Also customer service has never been these hard to reach.

    5. I'm stunned that they are struggling to commit to December 25th when it's only December 11th. That's amazing. I almost missed that the shipping delivery date had defaulted to December 26th because it says "Free" the way it does for ground shipping, it almost looks the same unless you take a moment to read it.

    6. Agreed, Elizabeth - I'd love to know what's going on with their fulfillment. Other retailers don't even have the "order by 12/xx to get standard delivery by Christmas" on their sites yet because well, there's still time to order (if you're not JC).

  2. Thanks for the heads-up on that sneaky default shipping tactic, Elizabeth!

Like many others, I tried the collection watercolor pencil skirt and was disappointed by the lack of movement allowed by the fabric. Even sizing up one from my typical larger skirt size, I felt svelte standing up but like I'd split the seams if I sat down--cannot return it fast enough. So I'm very glad to have just scored the collection watercolor short lady coat for just $92, down from $250 original retail (50% off with MONDAY plus 15% catalog code and $25 free gift card I received in the mail). Same fabric, but hopefully much more wearable. I'm a little concerned about the cocoon shape perhaps making me look mumsy, but the print is just so beautiful, and nothing else J. Crew has offered has been calling my name lately--I figured this was as good a time as any to cash in all my chips.

  3. Finally got one of my Tgiving week orders.
First. Banded T-back bikini top in colorblock stripe And Banded T-back bikini top in colorblock stripe. I ordered both pieces in size small because I tried the solid black bottoms in XS and felt they were a little tight. This bikini fits great. Yes, there is a little cheek exposure but it's a flattering cut, doesn't make me feel like I have saddle bags like the boy short/hipsters do. I put it on and felt great, which doesn't always happen with bathing suits. The top actually enhances my chest. I'll def buy this style in other colors when I see it.

    Crystal cluster earrings
    item: K1968
For under $10 these are beautiful. I ordered three pairs to have gifts on hand and am definitely keeping a pair. They're bold but not heavy. I love them.

Tall classic-fit boy shirt in trifecta stripe. I ordered the red blue color way thinking it would work as a coverup. I don't love it. Will try againwith a pair of shorts or jeans. It's cute, it just might be that the colors are too loud for me.

Everything else seems to be coming a piece at a time. I should have a lot by thurs but I'm not holding my breath.

    1. Fantastic on the bikini! Yay for good bikinis! And seriously I still prefer bikinis to one pieces so I like to hear happy success stories from my rocking it 40+ ladies.
I sat out the earrings because I have similar (from the crew) but I can vouch that they are beautiful in person.

The same colorway blouse shipped to me, but went to my old address (not a shipping error, I moved)and I'm waiting for it to be routed properly. The colors are a concern to me as well, but I'm hoping I'll love it with boyfriend jeans and a cute flat.

      Great reviews, thank you!

    2. My pleasure! I should wrinkle that shirt up and put it on with boyfriend jeans and red flats. That might be cute,

    3. I had the same concern about the trifecta stripe shirt. I owned a similar Brooks Brothers shirt a few years ago that I never wore. My DD thought it was beautiful, but was just too much red, white and blue. I felt like I was wrapped in a flag.

    4. Yes. I should have known because I have a silk shirt with even bolder gray and white stripes and I never wear it. The more fine pinstripes I don't have a problem with!

  4. Still waiting on all but one of my orders and they are coming one piece at a time - no wonder shipping costs are eating them alive. Planning to cancel the others today. I don't need these clothes in January.

  5. Black Watch Tippi finally arrived. It’s going back. Uneven dye job, white streaks around neck, very thin fabric. Also odd aroma.

The beautiful watercolor skirt is going back also. I’d been warned by user reviews and by other JCAs here, so I ordered a size up. I could squeeze into it, but it was painful. Then I ordered one more size up. This one wasn’t painful at the hips, but the waist was ridiculously large. I couldn’t walk in either. What a sad waste of time, energy and money.

    1. Still waiting on my blackwatch Tippi. I guess it will be a return when it arrives. That was the only new arrival I was looking forward to. This has been a sad holiday season for me with J Crew. Will be shopping my closet this year. Sad trombone.

  6. Received tweed glitter bow flats. They’re cute & tts, but the fit is not as comfortable as I would like on my surgery foot. So, this is a return.

Silk twill pull on pant in ivy shale. This is a beautiful print. Green background is darker than I anticipated. Looks more forest green, but I love it and think it works well for the season. Fit is tts. Still waiting on tall version to arrive tomorrow, so I can compare. Will keep for sure.

  8. So my orders are slow to arrive as well. My BF order came few days back.... kept the Cameron pants, the jeweled perfect shirt and Cava cashmere sweater..... did my returns yesterday.... store was packed.... I was able to exchange the lodge coat in pink from the order over night ( orders a smaller size), store matched it to 50 off with 15, and 15 in rewards for total $59.... still thinking if I should get the heather acorn....
I have pick up in store today.... cashmere wrap, and Chelsea boots.... not sure I will keep either....
few smaller orders are not even moving.... but it’s fine.... good time to cancel....or I can just take the extra discount now...,lol

  11. Just got an update and I should have all of my BF/CM orders by Thursday! It's a Christmas miracle!
I got four packages yesterday, including a huge BF order.
Relaxed mockneck sweater in cashmere - Got in my usual JC sweater size. The neck is too tight and the body/arms too loose. I look like a turtle in a shell one size too big. Cashmere is thick and softish. Returning.
New Balance® for J.Crew drawstring running short with mesh inserts - took my usual NBxJC bottoms size. OMIGOD SO SHORT. I know running shorts are supposed to be short, but these were short AND wide, and the material is flimsy, and I could just imagine my butt cheeks flashing people. Returning.
Everyday cashmere striped crewneck sweater - Fits TTS; as with all every cashmere it is very light bordering on see-through. But it fits and it's soft. Keeper.
Everyday cashmere cropped cardigan sweater - Fits TTS; feels more thicker and more substantial than my other everday cashmere. I got it in the sapphire color and love it. The cropped length is like a regular length on my petite torso. Keeper.
Point Sur ribbed turtleneck sweater - SO ITCHY. Can't wait to return.
Collection silk-twill wrap blazer in jungle cat print - got my usual blazer size and it fits fine with a cami underneath, but with a tissue turtleneck the shoulders are pulling. On the fence about keeping this, because I tried a few looks and I look borderline ridiculous. The length is a little long of me and looks somewhere between a pajama shirt, a smoking jacket and a kimono.
Tall belted sheath dress in Black Watch tartan - Had to get the tall because it was the only 4 left, and it is surprising well made. The tall is definitely too tall but the waist/hips fit. Bummed that I couldn't get my size or petite. Returning.
Spaghetti-strap foldover dress in satin-back crepe - Surprise love. I got my usual JC dress size and it fits perfectly. I got the pink and the color is like Marilyn Monroe's dress in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, which is a MUCH louder and tarty color than I wear but the fit is so good that I am keeping. Will try to cover it up with my dowdy vintage librarian cardigans!
Eyelet-back sweatshirt - I keep trying to make this work because the prices are good but I can't. In the past I tried my usual JC size but it was huge and wide, so this time I tried one size smaller. The body was still wide and the neck hole was too small. Returning.
Tall French girl slim crop pant in 365 crepe - Got in tall size because it was the only one left in my size. Way too long as expected, and hate the poly/crepe fabric. It feels super fake and slinky. Returning.

    1. Sorry the kimono didn't work out! I I totally know what you mean. I loved the tropical floral in that jacket but it felt a little costumey for my boring lifestyle.
I'm not sure which dress you're here referring to but it sounds so nice!

  12. I hate to beat a dead horse...but this is ludicrous. My substantial orders are shipping one meager piece at a time. I've ordered tons of gifts and clothing for the holidays. My stuff, I don't need immediately, but I'd love to return what doesn't work and it's not even acceptable anymore.
9 candles, I've gotten 4, two separately and two together. One or two canceled. Who even needs the rest at this point?
I remember last year was bad but I don't think it was quite this bad!

    2. I hear you! It would be nice to be able to just cancel orders that have been in progress for 10+ days at this point.

What's even going on with people that are able to get a hold of CS? Are you getting any helpful information on your orders, or is CS just seeing what's on your online order status? I'm just curious about all the people posting on their social media looking for details on long-processing orders and wonder if they're actually getting any information.

    3. I did chat with a couple agents online yesterday, also received a response on twitter this morning. Information from different sources are pretty much consistent. I think customer service people can see a bit more information about orders than "open", but I don't think there is much information available to them either.

      Delete
    4. Cool, thanks! Sounds like you can get a little more info if you're actually able to get a hold of someone. I feel for those CS agents, it must be insane and stressful over there.

    5. @Suz Has I'm in the exact same boat. Placed a couple of orders on 12/1 and 12/2 and one item (men's slippers that I don't need to wear to events or gift) has shipped. So frustrating. I understand they've had some weather issues over the weekend and into the start of the week, but 10+ days to ship an order is too many in my book. A Gap order I placed on Sunday was shipped by end of day Monday. Other retailers can do it, why can't J Crew?

    7. silver_lining, here is something I posted yesterday, in case you didn't see it:

After another 50 minute wait on hold, I learned that my packages would all be arriving this Wednesday and Thursday (except for the one I placed on 12/7). Something about UPS delays because of weather and the postal holiday for President Bush's funeral observation. CS told me that J. Crew expedited two of my shipments so it would get here by Thursday and they overnighted another. I thought that was nice. So, they're trying, but they're clearly very backed up.

Even though I have 3-4 packages arriving on Wednesday and Thursday, status does not say that online and I did not get shipping notices. If they were communicating better about the delays, I think people would be less upset. It looked like I had no hope of ever getting these orders, until I talked to CS and they had visibility into where they really are etc. Status isn't necessarily correct when you look online.

  13. Got my snakeskin mules yesterday. I like snakeskin, and I paid very little for them, so they're a keeper. I ordered 8.5, my usual shoe size everywhere. Anybody styling these mules for work (not blue jeans)?

    1. If I could get them for very little, I would wear mine to work! I did wear the two strap low heeled sandal to the office this summer and got lots of compliments. I wear a lot of black pants and I would treat it as a neutral.

    2. Nabbed 'em during the 60% off and stacked a 15% catalog coupon, so they were pretty affordable :-)

    3. I get zero mailing a from the crew so no style guide or coupon for me and I stopped working there right before Black Friday.
      Thank goodness. ;)

  16. Are they updating the website every day? I really think some items have been pulled, for example, several coats in specific colors. I also wonder how many items are really sold out considering their shipping issues. I picked up two orders yesterday. There were a few people in the store, but it was really boring. They had the navy and green of the Daphne coat in Italian tweed. I'm still unsure what to make of this coat. It is thin but I wonder about the fabric. Will I see a million pulls in two weeks if I bought it?

    1. I saw someone in NYC with the green Daphne today and it’s about 30 degrees. She didn’t look cold. I on the other hand bought the Daphne last year and still haven’t taken tags off. This year’s tweed somehow feels less substantial Han last year’s but I love this year’s colors! I’m bundled up in my old JCxWoolrich arctic parka because I’m a wimp.

    2. I saw someone wearing it and it looked very shopworn/shabby-not sure if she was particularly hard on her clothing or if its was just the coat. I think it might be the coat!

    1. I received a $25 off (with no minimum IIRC) code for my November birthday. I was able to combine it with 2 other discount codes, but I had to have cs assist.

  19. I teceived my holuday promo card in the mail yesterday. It’s $50 off $150. I think that’s different from what some received, right? Has anyone had success combining this with other promos? If not, it’s pretty lame.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I got $25 off, rather than $50, but I'm not a cardholder. (Although my husband is, we never use the card. Seriously, it's been used once since 2012 when we bought a bunch of suits for people in our wedding party to get an additional discount.)

      Delete
    2. I combined the $50 off of $150 with the Monday promo without any issue. It goes in the gift card box, so I suspect those type of offers can always be stacked with something else.

  20. I’d love to leave reviews, but I haven’t received most of what I’ve ordered. Two items were scheduled to arrive today, according to the tracking info, but have now updated to Friday. I still have about 10 items that haven’t even shipped yet! My last order was placed on Dec 7th. I won’t waste time ordering anything else at this point (not that I need more!). Sad times at J.Crew lately.

  21. I received the blue velvet kitten heel booties - went with my usual size 9.5 and they are a little big. Trying to decide if I'll wear them enough and if a 9 would be better. I also got the 10" button fly medium wash jeans and for $30 they're great. I took my usual size 29. Also received the leopard tie blouse which I got the 50 + 15 on and took a small (6 on top). I tried this with the skirt several weeks ago and still have the skirt on my list.

    2. They are beautiful and certainly a statement piece. I am a sucker for velvet, but often find I don't wear as much as I think I will when I purchase velvet items. Do you follow @my9to5shoes on Instagram? she has them too and has posted some photos of them if you are looking for photos. I'm happy to DM you some too when I'm home, let me know :)
