Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. I noticed a summer sneak peak e-mail this morning, although it probably came yesterday, but there is a video of a dancing piece of fruit with sunglasses, it's Sandy the summer strawberry. This in place of a catalog I guess :-/

    1. Sandy the summer strawberry?? Is this JCrew or Children’s Place???

Some random popbacks this AM: lots of things from early 2016. I picked up the ratti hibiscus herringbone pj pants, though second guessing myself because it’s one size bigger than I usually take. Some popbacks are finally sale - haven’t seen FS in a while.

  2. Nothing is catching my attention at J. Crew right now. I do have some factory returns like the fringe sweater. Cute until you can see my bra through the open line of weave at the top and I’m not wearing strapless with a short sleeve summer sweater.

I have picked up some things at HM lately that I’m please with. No pricing games, 100% cotton, and easy wash and wear are my kinds of clothes.

  3. No visit to JCrew, but the Easy tunic dress is down to $34, quite some sizes and colors left :) I'm glad I didn't buy last week when it was $67!

    1. I thought about ordering that dress in the bright blue, but it is dry clean only. I do hand wash silk, but this is viscose...

    2. I had a similar dress from Madewell of two years ago. I'm pretty sure I never actually dry-cleaned it, either hand wash or put in a small laundry bag and put on the delicate cycle :)

  4. No visit for me, again. Just not interested in the direction the company is headed. Last night I got an urge to flip through an old style guide - September 2011. Bummed there's nothing to look forward to from J.Crew anymore, both from a style guide and clothing perspective.

  5. No visit planned. Received SZ Blockprint pareos yesterday and they’re lovely. Prints (blue/pink and green/orange) are vibrant and perfect for summer. Can also be worn as a scarf, so dual purpose is a bonus. 1993 tanks in lilac and mustard. Tts and both colors are nice. Great for layering or alone. Ordered during magic hour of 40% promo. Will take on upcoming trip to UK and Kenya. 1988 stripe cotton roll neck sweater works perfectly with the long stripe cotton cardigan from early spring. Ratti Rosignol Floral cropped rash guard is a really nice option for the beach. Love the scoop back. High waist bikini bottoms in matching print will arrive today, so I’m set with summer swim. Uncoated downtown jacket in olive (tts). This is a very nice lightweight jacket; olive with gold snaps is pretty and happy I ordered a tall since I can turn up the cuffs. This is the last of my flash sale items.

  6. I will go to make returns -- I had ordered the eyelet funnel shirt in 6T and 8 (no 6 regular). Based on reviews I thought it ran small, but I guess I am not as big as I thought, since the 6T is actually loose, especially at the hips. So I will keep the 6T but leave the tags on while I wait to see if I can find a popback in a 4 regular. I did not even try on the 8, since I would be swimming in it.
I also ordered the denim utility pocket shirt in regular and tall, and will keep the regular. With the boxy cut, shorter is more flattering. I really like this shirt! The dark wash looks great with white jeans, and although it is boxy it hangs well. This shirt will get a lot of wear this summer!
And I am keeping the solid anorak in navy and gold. It fits well with room for layering, and the sleeves are a perfect length. I am wearing the small, and I am a 34C, five foot seven. I ordered it because I have metallic gold New Balance sneakers, and I could not resist seeing how they paired together. My husband said if I am bold enough to wear shiny gold sneakers I might as well go all in. Granted it is a slightly silly sweatshirt, but I am a slightly silly person.
I am returning the linen tie waist shirt. It was unflattering on me, since it had so much extra fabric around the waist. I do not think going down in size would help.

    1. I also got the solid anorak and I am keeping it. I LOVE it! Didn’t expect to. Not for someone who doesn’t like calling attention to herself but I don’t shy away from sequins so I love that gold. If I had the gold NBs I would totally wear them together! I think it is a great alternative to a sweatshirt. I am not a sweats kind of girl so I like this as a better looking type of hooded sweatshirt.

    2. Thanks eeps, glad I am not the only one who liked it more than expected. We will see in cooler weather if I am bold enough to wear it on casual Fridays! I have a pair of dark navy ponte pants that I would wear with it.

    3. Sorry to hear the eyelet shirt didn't fit well. It was definitely an awkward fit on me as well.
Re: the anorak, I love that one with the gold but don't do navy (long crazy story) but I just got a similar one in black and silver from the gap. I think the Jcrew one might be a little thicker but it's a fun piece. I've only worn with leggings and looser lululemon pants but I could totally see wearing with jeans too.

    4. Congrats on your move! I placed several orders too, but prices are so reasonable and things I had on my wishlist. @Anne - The Fab Life, thanks for the heads up on the shorts and jeans. I’m trying the button fly shorts in white and denim; I’ve worn my J Brand white jeans to death, so need an alternative.$20 is a great price & I’m hoping they all work Also ordered Point Sur linen seaside paints in lavender and caramel and the wide leg crop in loden green. Love linen for summer and they will be great for my UK & Kenya trip.

  7. Somehow I have found lots to order lately!
Just ordered the packable straw hat, striped pull on linen skit, and a lovely striped scarf for a summer trip.
I am also loving the pale pink linen blazer, and navy striped ankle strap flats I ordered earlier this spring.
Finally, I’ve picked up a couple cute summer dresses on sale, and beautiful rick rack swim pieces.

  14. Dropped by 5th Ave store for returns. Nothing interested me - in fact seeing some new arrivals made me wince. There’s a navy one shoulder dress with big yellow polka dots that made me mutter wtf aloud. Sale had no additional promo and were stuffed with cool weather items. I ended up returning 3/4s of my flash sale items - I had to be real with myself about keeping them and turned out it was more for the prices than the items themselves. Back went pineapple Tippi, bow front cardigan, floral tank, and merino anchors and stars sweater.

  15. No motivation for me to visit. The Uncoated Downtown Field Jacket was my last purchase that I really loved and kept. It’s been a month or so ... probably my longest J Crew hiatus ever.

I did go shopping w the college girls last week and they walked right by J Crew at Deer Park. Like, not even interested enough to go in and browse. Seemed like a bad sign.

  16. I went to J Crew unexpectedly for the first time in a while. I was at the mall frustrated that I hadn't found any good work clothes, and I found two great pieces in the sale section! The tiered bell-sleeve top in drapey crepe and the short sleeve knit dress! I'm so in love with the dress! I normally shop at madewell way more (I'm 21) but recently I felt that their dresses have fit awkwardly on me. This one, in comparison, is a dream, and I can wear it casually or formally! The only thing is the dress was $39.99 in store and I see now that it's $22.99 on the website. I dont know if I should return it and re-order it... what do you all think?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. My store honors the web price if it is lower. It would be tempting to get two colors for little over the price of one. How is the fabric and the fit? Does it run larger or smaller than your usual size?

      Delete
    2. I have too many black dresses so I think I'll just stick with one iteration of it. This store unfortunately is 40 minutes away so I just decided to remain with it at this price because I do think the dress is worth $40. The fabric is a nicely weighted cotton. Not too thick, not too thin. I normally wear an XXS/00/24 and I took the XXS. Reviews say it runs small in the arms, but I have pretty thin arms so it wasn't a problem for me. I've definitely tried madewell dresses that were much tighter around the arms.

  17. I did visit to return a bunch of online stuff yesterday. Promo was 25% off, additional 20% off if using J Crew credit card. Don't understand why J Crew keeps re-releasing the exact same items from previous seasons, like the star Tippi, leopard Tippi & embroidered sweatshirt. I'd like something new. So tired of the word t-shirts, too. Didn't purchase anything but then again, I walked the whole mall and could not find anything to buy so maybe it is just me.

  19. Does anyone have experience with the Tencel tees? Reviews are all over the place. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I personally wouldn’t buy anything with tencel. I bought a few dresses to wear while I was pregnant from Old Navy that were 100% tencel and not only did they shrink at least 2 sizes (cold water only!) but they came out so wrinkled that there was no hope in salvaging them. I returned and won’t buy anything with that fabric again.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. +1 - Tencel can be unpredictable, especially with water. I've read about Tencel tees torquing/twisting at the seams after washing. Viscose can be similar - I had a viscose tee from Loft that completely seized up and felt hard when I hand-washed it in cold water. It eventually softened back up after it dried, but felt so weird in the water. I don't deal with viscose or tencel anymore.

      Delete
    2. Huge thank you to you both! I have one I just bought for less than $10 that I love, but I haven't tried to wash it yet. Big bummer, as I am not a tee shirt fan and thought I may have found a solution.

      Delete
    3. I have some viscose and tencel items, but I never ever ever put them in the dryer or hot water. When they do go in the wash, it is in a laundry bag and on the cold/gentle cycle. Then shape and dry flat or hang on a wide rounded hanger.

I actually don't put much in the dryer except towels, sheets, gym socks, and old t-shirts.

      Delete
    4. Tencel blend can be good. I've had much better luck with tencel things than viscose. Just make sure to use cold water and no dryer.

    5. I will have to genly wash the one I have an go from there.
Meanwhile, the perfect raincoat popped back in gold last night so I pulled the trigger on that. I thought it was a futile search and hope it fits.

    6. I have an eileen fisher viscose jersey that I bought mainly for the color and weight of the fabric. I definitely expected a $118 top to hold up better, but after every wash (delicates bag and hang drying as directed) it pills like crazy! First and last experience with viscose.

  24. Question re cancelled orders, please

I have now ordered the same New Balance men's jacket four times on popback over the last few weeks because the three previous orders were cancelled by J Crew. I suspect that the fourth order will also be cancelled. I don't know why it keeps coming back on the website if it isn't actually there, but I guess there's a (very small) chance it may actually ship this time.

I've also had a similar situation with a specific boatneck tee that I have ordered on popback three or four times over the last year but have never received.

Has anyone else had similar experiences?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It took me three tries to get a dress on popback once. Finally did, though, and I really do like it. With sale items at a great price this happens, since the stock is low and several people may check out at one time. The system can only mark off sold items so fast, I guess.

    2. Hi, p banos

Yes. I wondered about this possibility, but I am (embarrassingly) often checking out at 4 AM or so. The cost or benefit, depending on how you look at it, of being an insomniac. I guess orders are not filled out in the order they are placed. Or maybe there are a lot of insomniacs looking for deals at 4 AM :-)

    4. Hi p banos,

I ordered the 2011 Icon Trench two times with backordered dates. Both times they sent me an email saying it was cancelled, but when I checked the website the trench coat was still there with the same backordered date. It was only on the third try that I finally didn't receive a cancelled email and they shipped the item to me.

    5. Some stores carry a LOT of inventory. Hundreds of each item. The software probably does not account for theft and damages, and may not be in real time. Also, items could be on hold for another B&M customer.

      Delete
  25. The posts hoping for a promo code soon make me wonder what people's recent experiences have been with price adjustments.

It used to be the case that if I ordered something at $50 on sale without a promo code, and a promo code for 30% off appeared a couple of days later that I could email for a price adjustment and they would give me a price adjustment of $15 (plus tax). But about two months ago when there was a promo code on sale items, when I emailed for the % off discount on recent orders placed immediately prior to the discount code, I was told that I was not eligible for % off because I had already gotten the "best price". I emailed back saying that I had received price adjustments under similar circumstances in the past but was turned down again. So I gave up and haven't asked for any price adjustments under these circumstances since. Using my hypothetical example - how is it the "best price" to pay $50 instead of $35? They never articulated it clearly, but are they looking at "best price" as the listed price before any additional discounts are applied?

Are people still getting price adjustments under the above circumstances? They have every right to set (and change) their policies, but they should be clear about what they are.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. This year I've emailed them a few times requesting price adjustments and sometimes they would give me the "one-time courtesy" spiel. I think it depends on who responds to your email, or they might have recently changed their policies.

  26. New arrivals are up at Factory. Sad IMO. Very unflattering silhouettes on the dresses and tops, and WTH with the wintery jewel-toned satin slides in July? I’m really trying to find pieces I like but you are making it impossible, J Crew.

    1. I hd a $25 birthday bonus that's going to expire in a few days. I stopped by factory this morning and took home a new arrival, the short-sleeved navy cotton sweater with a bow for about $5. They have the sweaters in five colors and I thought the knit was a little thicker (not see-through in the navy) than expected. It will be a good transition to fall piece.

      Delete
    2. @ Mary G. I agree this sweater is cute and the only thing I have purchased from factory all spring/summer. Im happy to see new colors, but not sure I like any of them.

      Delete
    3. Yes, on the colors not being very appealing. I wanted the thistle and that was the only color they didn't have. I decided it might look washed out and since navy is my main neutral, I can always use another navy piece. The pale pink was awfully see-through.

  27. While I'm not ordering nearly as much as usual, I'm still finding things to try here and there. The sale section has been pretty packed the past few mornings - picked up another size of the Ratti Rossignol floral swimsuit (after realizing just how skimpy the rear end is on the original size I ordered!), the blossom mercantile dress (for $30 I'll try it), two black s/s dresses (the sheath style and the more A-line style with longer sleeves), navy eyelet tunic coverup and the half-moon crystal earrings.

    1. Same. I am getting a lot of popbacks and finding new items I really love, there is just a lot to weed through. I do see a lot of potential in the mercantile superbloom dress and that's on my list next to try.

Also - I have wanted those earrings since the moment I saw them! I'm going to see how heavy they are when I go to work tonight.

There is still good stuff to be found :)

    4. There have been a lot of 2015 and 2016 popbacks in the AM hours. Funny how back then we were complaining about the styles but seeing them now compared to what we have, the stuff from even 2-3 years ago look more appetizing. I haven't ordered much because I have't been a lucky size, though I thank my stars for the popbacks of the going out blazer with ruffle and the ruffled chino jacket, both of which I love. I also caught the drapey keyhole dress, which I LOVE! I remember putting it on my wishlist when it came out and it mysteriously disappeared, so never in my wildest dreams did I expect to see it again and on sale. Only a size 4 was available and I grabbed it even though I'm normally a 2, but I think the dress is running small because the 4 fit perfectly. I am beyond happy. Other than that, everything else I have ordered that are on sale and this season have gone back due to sizing/quality issues. I am now exclusively shopping popbacks.

    5. My half moon earrings arrived today. they are so pretty! They seemed heavier in my hand but didn't feel too heavy once I put them on, however, the stud at the top of the earring is very large and it pulls my earlobe down considerably. I have to try them on my second hole to see if the look is better. Definitely worth checking out!

  29. I started summer break last week and culled my summer wardrobe. I’m still 17 pounds up7 months postpartum so some things are snug. And since I’m nursing dresses are a no go. I needed an easy skirt I could throw on with a T-shirt and flip flops and dash out the door. I have plenty of fussy skirts that are cute for work but wanted something way more casual. I picked up the linen pencil skirt and I love it! I was worried it would be too short because the description says 23.5 inches but mine is 25” (ordered the tall). That’s perfectly knee length on my 5’10 self. I ordered up a size and that was the right call and reviews say the same.

  30. Agreed, eeps. I was just nostalgically looking at the past two or three spring presentations and, while I didn’t like much at the time, I surely do wish things hadn’t gotten so bad. I’m shopping eBay etc.; it seems my design sweet spot was five years or so, give or take, as I’m now realizing. Sigh. I do love what I have, and am surely not parting with it anytime soon. Best of luck with the pop backs!
