  1. Order placed Friday 5/11. Still in progress. Not sold out. I might call CS and reorder st the same prices I paid. I think 5 days is too long for an order to be "in progress."

    1. My order placed on 05/03, shipped on 05/07 is finally supposed to be delivered TODAY, 05/16. Shipping has been terrible for me lately. First world problems, I know! ;)

    2. I ordered the items again and I'll call for a price match. Ridiculous.

    3. I was thinking of doing that, too, but a lot of my items were sold out. Hoping my package arrives today, everything in it is correct and no used, stinky perfume smelling clothes are included.

    1. Yep. For the past 2 days it shows up all wonky.

    2. I emailed J.Crew yesterday. So lame how there’s always something wrong.

    3. I did yesterday. Didn't look today.

  3. Irritated that JC items that are made of washable natural fabrics like cotton and merino wool are still marked dry clean only. Historically when natural fabrics are dry-clean only, it means the maker did not use high-end color-fasted/pretreated threads to prevent dye leaks and shrinkage. I'm assuming the same here for JC. I expect this for clothes from H&M or Forever21, but ugh JCrew I do NOT go out of my way to buy natural fabrics so that I have to chemically treat my clothes! (rant over, I hand-washed anyway)

    1. I think pretty much all manufacturers use "dry clean only" to exclude themselves for any responsibility of the garment not holding up due to the owners' poor washing abilities.

    2. I've been annoyed with this for years. That's why I'm on board with high quality synthetic fabrics or blends. If that means it will be machine wash, then great. I have seen JCrew (and of course other labels) do machine wash silk, cotton, and linen. I don't know why they can't offer that more consistently. Now if I really think it will require dry clean, I just don't buy it.

    3. A side effect of the lesser quality fabrics and construction at J Crew now is that items don’t launder as well no matter what the method. Dry Clean Only is a CYA move.

I should add that I really didn’t mind babying my gorgeous silk and silk-cotton blend J Crew prints in years past. In fact I wore Punk Floral today. But that was then.

  4. I am going to vent at myself for getting sucked into buying stuff I did not want or need when J crew finally decided to do 50% off sale. I now have a giant bag of 8 items to return and am debating throwing a 9th in. I have been hoarding returns since my closest store closed and it is now an hour trip. Sale items are rarely a decent % off anymore and I got too easily sucked in. Honestly for the prices i paid I would have liked to keep more but the items either have fit, fabric or quality issues. I am still finding pieces to love here and there and did keep the NB pink court shoes and some cheap toothpicks but next time there is a decent sale I am going to try to stick to the wishlist.

  9. Not so much a vent, but rather a curiosity: V neck sweater in Supersoft yarn is now back to full price in most colors. I think this sweater was in stores in December and has been marked down at some point to $35 plus %off. I might also add that it is 80 degrees in most of the country.

  10. Sigh! Don't know if anyone else has noticed. J0511 originally released 2months ago at $98 (I know because I brought all 4colours during a 40% promo), now $110. I just don't understand. What is going on at J.Crew?!

  11. So the rollout is just around the corner. Ladies, lets go shopping at the old J.Crew Collection pieces. Let me know which pieces you would get from tops, dresses, sweaters, shorts & skirts, jackets, and shoes.

    J.Crew Collection

Tops: For me I really love the collection stripe top
Dresses: Maison Kisune stripe Bali dress is freaking gorgeous and I also really like the neon-trimmed dress because it's very simple
Sweaters: Sweaters are meh so I would skip that
Skirts: As for the skirt the whole tropical sequin pencil skirt is to die for the same goes for shimmer lace skirt
Jackets: The wool blazer and diamond foulard is very freaking chic. I need it in my closet!
Shoes: For my shiny ponies I love Dulci Slingback kitten heels and jeweled ankle-strap

    1. waiting for new roll out....seems like forever.

    2. I had forgotten how extensive the Collection used to be... how I miss it! Collection comprises the bulk of what I've bought from J. Crew over the past few years...
The 2014 link you posted was very nice. My favorites that I would still buy in 2018:
      Collection shantung wildflower dress
      Collection geo brocade dress
      Peach tweed top
      Brocade panel top

But if I look with my critical eye, I am noticing an excessive reliance on ruffles was already afoot... and I find these selections to be lacking good options in the skirts/bottoms department. There are about 10x more shorts than I would deem necessary. The only skirt I might consider is the leather one.

      Delete
    3. @EllieB Yeah, you're right about the ruffles but it's not as crazy like it was last year and the year before that. I love the collection pieces because the clothes are just so elegant and avant garde haute couture. I also love how the models are framed where you can see the whole outfit unlike now when some of the models are sitting down or doing weird poses. I really wish the company would keep the Jenna styling for the collection line since it pretty much banished.

  13. So I go to the site and see a promo for 30% and I think ooohhh... But then it doesn't work and all the summer stuff (like tank tops) say excluded from the promo anyway. So I go back to the main page and the promo is gone. So it was just a glitch. Because OF COURSE NOTHING WORKS RIGHT!

    1. Agree, promo was 30 off.... now gone.... waiting for off sale.... perhaps Memorial Day. But then.... the stock for sale is poor....

    2. I see 30 percent off but it's only on full price stuff.

    3. I saw it too, like a flash in the night...and then it was gone! Hence, the new banner: Need a size? Have a question? Wow, JC, wow!

    4. SUMMERLOVE promo was up last night just after midnight and then disappeared this morning. It is now back up. Crazy!

    5. Now it's back but none of the stuff in my cart is included even tho it's summer stuff.

Whatever. I've spent a total of $38 on replacing a pair of moccasins this month. Not JCrew. Their loss.

  15. Someone, anyone, try to convince me to keep the Liberty Jackie? I ignored it when it was released because of the awkward fit, then purchased it one size up when it went on sale last week. Now it's here and although the price is good (especially for a Liberty item), the one size up is about a half size too big and I don't know how to style it so it doesn't look dowdy. Help?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. eeps, I had to have the Liberty Jackie, too. Got it for an amazingly low price but still haven't worn it. If it is making you feel frumpy, just return it. I've already washed it so I have to keep mine.

      Delete
    2. Be strong and return it!! In my experience when I try to make things work because they were a good deal it never works out...and I end up wearing the item once at the most. Find something else that you love and feel good in!

      Delete
    3. From my experience, if I’m not loving an item or I find myself forcing it to make it work - it’s better just to return it. Even if it was cheap, it’s money wasted. You could put that money to a more expensive but better made, better fitting garment.

      Just my thoughts!

    4. Thanks all! I went with my gut and returned. Absolutely right about spending on better fitting items rather than settling for a good price.

    1. I got one yesterday with the subject line ten things you will love more than puppies. It included ten items suggested for me to purchase based on my last order which was a bikini top. They seemed all random and included nothing currently on my wishlist or radar. Perhaps as annoying as the puppies.

    2. Wow I didn't even get that. They must have given up on me.

  19. I don't understand this promo. SUMMERLOVE is 30 percent off some items, CARDPERK is 20 percent off if you use your Jcrew card, but you can't combine?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You might have to call CS to combine, as was the case the last time they had a similar promo. I agree it makes no sense, and is just an extra hassle that keeps people from ordering if you have to call to get the adjustment. I guess the 20% is good on sale, which is not on promo.

    2. You can combine if you use CARDPERKS.

  20. Who here has tried the V-neck front-pocket tunic sweater in supersoft yarn? Prices are great and I'm thinking about how loooong East Coast winters are.

    1. I tired this on the other day and surprisingly, I really liked it. It is soft, and flattering, though I sized down. I tried the shorter version last winter, but the odd length uneven hem just looked strange. This one was much better. Cute with skinny jeans. I finally ordered one myself as the price is good. I can't speak to how well these hold up, but I'm also in a cold climate and hoping this will be a good cozy sweater.

      Delete
    2. That's great, thank you so much for your review and the sizing help. I don't do uneven hems either. I think I'm going to get the pink.

    3. I purchased one this winter. while cozy it is...its for house only now as the pilling is off the chart.

  21. Nothing to vent about....I called CS yesterday to get a price adjustment...surprise!...and the rep was absolutely fantastic! Super friendly, looked at all my recent orders for adjustments, told me about the items she was buying...we had a wonderful talk. J. Crew with all it's craziness still has the BEST customer service people.

  22. So I went in my B&M the other day and chatted it up with the manager who has been there for at least a decade maybe closer to two. He was very excited about a recent regional management meeting where they discussed changes to the store. Apparently they’re going to section off parts of the store to market the offshoots of the brand. There will be a Point Sur section, a “classics” section featuring all of the “classic J Crew” pieces, etc. it sounded similar to a department store which I don’t particularly shop because I feel like it requires more hunting and has too many things at once. It just feels super gimmicky to me as have most of the changes they’ve made recently (adding mercantile to the stores, changing prices, weird promos). It’s like they need a time machine to go back and see how they built such a following.

My store is getting all of the newer summer things on Monday he said too.

    1. Oh and I again brought up if they’re going to bring all if that “other” merchandise in why can’t we have a Crewcuts pop up from time to time? I think it’d be great for holidays and back to school as we don’t have a Crewcuts in town.

      Delete
    2. I don't mind that. At least if customers have an aversion to any section, they can easily avoid it.

I'll also say that I have not heard one complaint about Mercantile at the store I work in, and that Point Sur is selling wonderfully.

      Delete
    3. They have already started this new “visual merchandising” strategy in my store. The idea is to create more of a boutique feel within the store and if you are looking for a specific thing, it can be a nicer shopping experience.

The risk is that it’s still the same merchandise, just displayed differently. If J Crew’s product strategy doesn’t change and the merchandise itself doesn’t improve, they are rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

  23. Interesting pricing strategies...Seersucker shirt in classic stripe, G4749. In Classic fit it costs CAD 69.00 but in tall and slim the price is CAD 98.00. If a men is tall and has no giant belly let's punish him with $30 up charge. Is there price difference for US residents as well or only Canadians?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I found a switch to check pricing for US customers and the price is same for all 3 types of sizes. Only Canadian men are punished for being handsome.

      Delete
    2. As someone who shops tall sizes, I want to attribute this discrepancy to J Crew’s standard IT incompetence rather than discrimination. They often seem to ‘forget’ to lower prices on special sizes when ‘regular’ sizes go on sale or promo...

      Delete
    3. Loft does the same thing, they might discount a regular price item but if you find it in petite, it's without the discount. I once called CS to ask about it and was basically told it is what it is even if it doesn't make sense.

  24. Got my evie ballet heel shoes this week. I like them a lot. I got the silver and exchanged for blush/nude. 7.5 is perfect. Did try 8 and I was falling out of them. They bend well and I think will be easy to break in. They were an awesome price.... would recommend!!!

I had this jacke ton its way too me for $65. The SA suggested I call CS for PA. I called on my phone from store. CS spoke to SA and I have the jacket of $25. They did not have my size in store.
I did return abunch of things...took a look in my closet this morning...alot I had not worn along with some jewellery and returned it all. hoping to be more impressed with next roll out.

  27. Posted pics on IG of the NEW unstructured blazer in linen cotton in black. This runs so narrow, through the shoulders on me, I needed to size up TWO sizes. I compared it with my Regent linin blazer, which is a size 2 and a little tight across the shoulders, but I think overall a more flattering fit.

Also posted pic of the Evie ballet heel in deep blush. I needed to size up a 1/2 size from my similar Sophia Pump size.

  28. Not really a vent, but two questions: 1) Does J.Crew ever do a catalog/style guide anymore? The last ones I have are from December. 2) What is J.Crew Mercantile? What does it mean when it says something is Mercantile?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 1) No - I think their last full-size style guide was June '17 and there hasn't been anything printed in 2018, at least nothing that was mailed out to customers. They had some smaller catalogs over the Holiday season, and their Pinterest page hasn't been updated since last summer.

      2) JC Mercantile is another name for Factory - my Factory B&M has a Mercantile sign out front. JC's kind of tinkering with the names - I think they're trying to pass Mercantile off as a sub-brand on the retail site like they're doing with Point Sur.
