Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Seriously no new promo for Memorial Day? Every other retailer is offering extra % off sale. And JC’s sale section is full of sweaters and wool pants/holiday plaid. ??!

    1. Yeah, 40% off your purchase (with the exception of sale and all other excluded items) isn't that enticing, especially when a) it's full of sweaters and b) they had 50% off sale not that long ago. The women's sale section has been hanging at >1,100 for days - they'll have to do an additional % off to clear it out again.

  2. I have been receiving emails all week from other retailers in regards to Memorial Day sales and agree this one is lame. I will be going to both factory and retail tonight to make returns and will report back if % off sale in store. The sad thing is I used to get excited to make returns in King of Prussia as it is a large store but now it is just a chore. The drive is long since my closest store closed and I never find anything good in the sale section as there is nothing of interest to me right now. And If there is no additional % off definitely I will not buy.

    1. No percentage off sale yesterday when I visited the Michigan Ave. store in Chicago. They did have a lot of new arrivals, but since I already placed my order on Tuesday, I didn't buy anything. Patterns on the new swimwear look very pretty but I don't need any more swim. Too many word tees, not appealing to me personally. They just feel junior-ish to me but perhaps I'm just too old! :)

  3. Rewards are available. Check your email. My shopping is down a lot as evidenced by my rewards, but I’m still finding items I want. Sending my son to make returns and for in store pick ups on a few tees and earrings. I’ve ordered sale items of basics (yellow stripe tee, navy cardigan with pearl buttons and button fly crop jeans in redwood wash) that were deeply discounted, but nothing else. Agree that %off sale is needed to move the old merchandise. It’s really puzzling because new arrivals are cheaper than the old stuff. Received the first of my new arrivals yesterday (decided to try a few more things for vacation and summer), island floral silk crop pants. I’m a fan of silk and really like them. Fit is tts and lots of styling possibilities. VPS was able to stack educator and 15% off coupon (stores can do this too), along with 40% promo. So, really no incentive to shop the sale section if there’s something you like from New Arrivals.

  4. My store was 40% off the entire store with very limited exclusions when I last worked on Tuesday. It was extremely busy, like holiday busy and people were buying a lot. I work tonight, tomorrow and Monday and will report back.

    1. Was sale included? It seems so odd that there is no extra percentage off!

    2. I do not work on the register or in the sale room so I'm not sure...I'm sorry I don't have more info.

  6. J.Crew Factory is 10% cash back on Ebates today.

  7. I saw that (10% ebates) as well as some reduced prices on shorts st Factory. Since they've gotten decent reviews and several of my retail shorts have pretty much fallen apart after a few wears, I decided to try a bunch. Returns are a PITA but if I have to ship them back or drive 45 min to a store I will.

  8. Looking at the THIS MONTH'S FEATURES section, the girl on the 'The Vacation Shop is open' picture looks so stoned. Like she just had a bottle of wine in a hot hot sun and completely lost control over her face and limbs and speech. I'm wondering how do they pick those pictures to be featured?

  9. No visit for me, but I made an internet purchase. Ebates was 5% yesterday but I blew it and waited until today. Oh well. I purchased the party dot skirt and the matching silk top - I was too curious but am cautiously thinking it will be a return. The everyday cashmere went on sale and was a decent price with the addition of my 15% off code. I also put in another pair of the stretch linen pants and the clip dot skirt (couldn’t resist the white/lilac combo). I got some decent prices and am hoping a few pieces will be keepers.

  10. Can anyone comment on the sizing of the new pink/coral paisley skirt? The one online review says it runs large.

    1. More about my store visit. I don't even understand what's going on. I went to,the store at 3 on a Friday before Memorial Day and there people, shopping which was nice. I found what I wanted right away and walked into a dressing room after someone else, there was a door open so I just opted to use that room.
There was an associate working and after a few minutes there was a line for the room. I could hear people complaining that they were doing a quick shop, and didn't want to wait. There are at least two other dressing rooms areas with 3/4 rooms in each so I'm not sure if they weren't open or what.

I took two sizes of the pants and blazer in with me and when I caught the assoc attn asked for another size just to make sure.

I like the outfit so decided to buy knowing I'll try at home and can return, so I went on line quickly. Sale section was just a quick pass thru, I didn't even look at the signage to see if there was addl % off.

Three assoc were helping clients at the register and there were several people IN line waiting. 😉 one assoc left (I thought she was a manager from last time). The other two were helping people with things other than transactions. One was walking the floor (meanwhile there were people on the floor not busy) and the other was not sure, but by now there were quite a few people in Line and two busy registers. One guy called for back up and the woman who left came back.

I was next and first I did my return. Her first comment was one of the invoices said factory and she didn't know if they could take it back. I told her I didn't order from factory, it was a retail item so it should be able to be returned and I haven't even shopped factory for ages and this kind of annoyed me.

I did express frustration to her because things in store don't seem to be run well. It seems like people on the floor don't do registers and the people at the registers can't even take a break to pee after 4 hours. (She explained to me that's where she ran off to). She also told me the guy at the register who walked off to do a stock check was one of the managers. Why couldn't he have helped other people and asked the floor or stock people to do a stock check? Meanwhile the line was growing. It just makes no sense and it's poorly managed.

    2. I realize that sounds like a "first world problem” and it's really not a big deal, it's just much different than the way things used to be, which set the store apart from other mall stores.

    3. I notice this problem in many stores and it drives me crazy. Double for companies where I’m a stockholder. Don’t make it difficult for people to buy things!

  12. A few reviews from the new arrivals:

    - Pleated linen sheath dress in dark seaweed - substantial linen and well structured. Pleats are well done and nice and crisp. The size 10 (my smaller numerical size) fits, but is snug and the dress does not have stretch. If you aren't busty it may be fine, otherwise consider sizing up. Color is a pretty forest-y green. I'm having trouble getting it to work with my cardigans and blazers to turn it into a work outfit. There is a lot to like here and I think the quality is there, but its probably a return for me.

Drapey top with ladder trim - fabric is poly and feels cheap. There are darts at the bust but not enough to give it shape on me. Not in love with the coral. Runs a hair small if you are busty. Return.

Ruffle neck top in cotton poplin - ugh this one had nice fabric, great navy color, and a nice trim at the neck but cut low enough to see my bra at the v and no darts so looks like a maternity top. Smaller numeric size fit, but the fitting issues make it a return.

Pull on easy pant in island Floral - like the fit, like the silk, like the pattern - not sure how I'd style to be able to wear enough to make them work. @wearthislikethis shows them on her instagram and suggested gold sandals and a tank for her styling, so am thinking about these.

5" stretch chino short - love these. Great fit, great length, makes me want to wear shorts more! This pair is the persimmon which reminds me of modern red, and I have them in the blue from earlier in the season. Definitely recommend.

    1. In the pull on pant I was a 6 (smaller of my pants sizes) and in the shorts I am an 8.

  13. Did you find the stretch chino shorts to be true to size? I have proportionately larger hips and thighs and smaller waist. I own the pink vintage plaid boyfriend shorts and boyfriend chino shorts with embroidered palm trees. Both of those shorts fit perfectly in my normal size without being tight in the thighs or butt or gapping at the waist. Do you think this will be a issue with the stretch chino shorts? Reviews are mixed on the sizing so I’m not sure.

    1. Yes, I love them!! I am a 14/16, depending on the day, month or year, and they work well for me. Even for chino, I can dress up or down, and the fit is perfect for me. No tightness in the legs, thigh or butt and good stretch. To me, better than factory fit, which cut too tight in same areas and just didn't work overall. Fabric is nice with just enuff stretch...again, for MY size and shape.

    2. I'm in the larger of my two sizes and they are comfortably roomy. I am fairly straight up and down and have a bit of a belly at times so some room in the waist is a help! They do stretch a bit so you may be able to take your normal size based on your description of the other shorts you have.

    3. Thanks to both of you. I’m going to give them a try in a couple different lengths.

  15. A report back from my returns last night. At the retail store they were pushing 40% full price. Sale was no additional % off. I tried zero on. It is just odd seeing the factory dresses mixed in with everything else. The store was pretty dead and no one was buying. I liked the cotton pleat front skirt in paisley but not enough to try on as I know the length won’t work. I made returns at factory as well and the entire store was 60% off and 50% off clearance. I purchased the Embroidered knit tank dress and embroidered chambray dress. These types of dresses are summer staples for me as they can be worn for work or casual. They were not as thin as I expected them to be since they are 100% cotton and pricing even better than on line at 60% off. The factory store was crowded with people trying on and buying piles of stuff. Striped ruffle sleeve dress was a loser as the ruffle just looked sad with no structure. My store didn’t get the ikat pull on pant so I will probably order on line.

  16. I placed a giant order of new arrivals, paid $3 for the upgraded shipping and received everything 2 days later. I ordered all skirts and 2 tees. Here are my reviews:

Cotton paisley skirt: from early thoughts on this skirt I was convinced this would be a return but decided to order since tall sizes usually sell out quick. Let me tell you this was my favorite in the box!!! The high low hem is flattering, the cotton fabric is breezy, and the length is perfect. I wore it the very next day. Now that is true love. Some are saying it runs big, maybe a smidge so if you’re between sizes you could size down, otherwise I say stick with your normal size.

Party dot skirt. This is another lovely skirt that I didn’t think I would like. It’s plenty long in the regular length for me so petite girls need a petite size for sure. It’s a lovely weight and the pattern is playful with lots of styling options. This is a fall skirt to me though since the poly won’t breathe in summer. I’m ok with that. We may get a cooler day in MI before summer break so I might get a chance to wear it soon (though it’s 90 degrees this weekend).

Rugby wrap skirt. Another skirt I thought for sure would go back but I absolutely love this. Nice heavy knit that is not see through and lays nicely. Length is great - just below the knee on my 5’10 self. I sizes up because of my hips which can pull on wrap skirts and that was the right call for me. The extra room doesn’t make this wrap indecent it stays together sitting and moving around.

Clip dot midi. This is the one I thought I would love and I’m going to return. I may reorder later but I like the other skirts a touch more and a girl has to say on budget. It’s a nice weight though and the cotton is breezy.

Keeping the summer Fridays tee but returning the yellow twist tee - it feels cheap and is see through.

  17. Wanted the sleeveless Henley midi dress in a medium but it was sold out online. I called two stores and found it. They shipped it for $3 immediately and I had it in less than 24hours. It’s a great option for those living in hot and humid climates. It accentuates me without being clingy on my “mom bod.” I’m 5’6” and 135. This is why I continue on with JCrew although I wish it was easier to find items sold out online. Classic stripe, not see through but still breathable, and goes great with my net Tretorns.

Went to the factory today and the clearance section was overflowing. Even with an extra 60% off it was chock full of ruffles and off the/cold shoulder items. I picked up nothing but it seemed like some people were buying.

Waiting on an order of tortoise slides, ladder trim top, and v neck navy marled sweatshirt.

    1. Hi cate, I don’t understand why they are doing this! Personally it totally turns me off and I think it would be confusing for shoppers.

    2. I don't understand either. When I handed over my receipt/invoice, I noticed it said "Factory" on it, even though it was not a Factory order. It didn't faze the sales associate so she's probably seen it before.

I don't understand the direction J. Crew is taking. They're muddying the brand by introducing a third line (Mercantile, + retail + Factory) and mushing all 3 lines together in a disorderly way. And if they still have Madewell on the J. Crew website, that's confusing too.

The floral dresses are fine but a bit out of left field for J. Crew. I sincerely wonder (and have for years) what their marketing research looks like.
