J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. 40% off is applying to new arrivals. If you have a 15% off coupon to stack, discount is almost 50%. Decided to order some silk items to try, including Liberty melody floral pants (really like this print for summer) and the island floral headband. Considered Collection silk stripe slip dress, but realized I don’t wear a similar yellow stripe version from a few years ago enough. Ordered navy wrap around leather sandals since I think they’ll work after my foot surgery and some casual linen items for summer: Point Sur linen stripe midi skirt and matching tie front top in tall.

  2. Nothing for me, and I looked several times. I wish I liked something enough to purchase! I noticed that the swim, beach cover-ups, tees, and shorts are on promo (some only 4-5% off) so the 40% doesn’t apply. I do like the look of the PS embroidered midi dress, but I think that even the petite will be too long and hit me at an unflattering place on the calf.

    1. Agree that after looking several times there is nothing I feel is a must have. Normally I add a few items to the wishlist as buy if makes it to sale items. I had zero of those this time. In the same boat as you in regards to midi length. Unflattering on me as well. Everything seems either too long or too short as the mini skirt lengths are too short for me to be comfortable.

  3. Also new arrivals at Madewell. Lots of cute summer pieces! 20% off dresses and some jumpers.

Even though some of the items is not my style, I really love how everything matches. There’s a theme. There’s inspiration. The colors and prints they use. The jewelry...bags, and shoes. Even 3rd party brands they sell. Head designer, Joyce and her team are doing a great job!

    1. Styling is on-point. I even like the photo shoots, and the models they use!

    2. I agree Madewell is more cohesive and knows its audience. Not much I like in the newest rollout, but really liked a number of things from early Spring. Tops were silk and cotton too. Personally Madewell's colors are a bit drab (but so are J Crew's now) and I always feel too old to be shopping there (35+) but the look of the store is unified and I always find a few gems that work for me.

  4. Called and got a few price adjustments. Now....should I reorder the few things I have gotten that are outside the 7 days adjustment time...or just forget it? Ugh...here I am in the price game again! I wish I could find a bunch of things I like and want....but I'm just so underwhelmed. I'm not even opening up the page and looking at things closer. I did buy a cute top at Madewell yesterday off the sales rack, so that was a nice surprise. Item h8287, the gingham smocked top. It's alot chicer (at least I think) than it looks. I love anything gingham and the belt has tassles...what's not to like?

    1. Good morning Stray Cat! Personally, if I am happy with the price I paid, I don't so the work for a better price. Part of that is because often times I get such good deals I'm okay with paying a little more when I have to, or if I don't want to risk my size not popping back at an even lower price. Part of it is because I want to help J. Crew out if I can, although it is probably silly to think my few meager dollars has any impact.

I just looked up the gingham blouse. Adorable! Thank you for sharing the product #. How was sizing on this?

    2. Hi, yah, it's time consuming and not really worth it to keep getting adjustments, etc. And I agree, I think J. Crew still delivers a pretty good product for the price. I took my normal size on the Madewell blouse. It's a loose fitting style so I wouldn't go up on size.

    3. I saw that shirt at Madewell, the black and white gingham with the embroidery on the shoulders and the tie belt. I admired it but it's more boho than my usual. Super cute.

  5. I was able to get two popback items I wanted today - the black ruffle blazer (scored the chino last week on popback and currently loving it), and the camo foundry pants (thanks for your help with sizing on those Suz!).

    1. Thanks for the head's up!! I didn't snag a popback in my size but got Nordstrom to pricematch today's price for the Going Out blazer with ruffle. Hoping my usual size works out!

    2. Glad you were able to get the going out blazer, they went quick! I ordered my regular size too. It was perfect in the chino.

    3. Did the 40% apply to it? I didn't even remember it when I asked Nordstrom to price match.

    4. I used my employee discount so I don't know, I'm sorry!

    5. I hope you love the camo pants as much as I love mine! Sizing up made them so much better for me.

  7. Off topic, but Talbots sent a catalog that included a card with a $30-off-no-minimum code. Combined with their 40% off dresses/skirts I ordered a cute black/white print summer skirt for under $12. Now I have to give away at least one dress or skirt, because my closet is too full. My sister-in-law will be the likely recipient.

  9. Too bad there is no extra%off sale. There are some pop backs I really want :(

  10. I ordered a pair of Vintage Straight jeans and pajama pants. I was pretty uninspired by this rollout. The swimsuits with words on them were ... not my style. Madewell's was better but still no interest in the clothes (liked some accessories). I could use some jean shorts that aren't so high-rise.

  11. The 40% off and free ship got me to order a few things... finally going to try the "going out blazer" but I can NOT find any IRL pics of it anywhere. Didn't any bloggers review this one? Anyone have a pic of it on instagram they can point me to?
Also ordered a few pairs of the high rise slim boy chino to try. Online reviews were good.
Agree with cate above, recent rollout pretty uninspiring and the worded swimsuits... sigh.

    1. Hi Julie - I tried the black on my blog a few months ago -you can see it here a little harder to see because of the color but I loved it. It runs snug so I took the larger of my two blazer sizes. You can see it here paired with the tiger silk blouse. Hope this helps!

    2. I also have pics on my IG,but they are very far down.
As Anne said the blazer is fitted, but i still found it TTS.
      I really liked it.

    3. I love this blazer. Like Anne, I thought it was a snug TTS and I took the larger of my two sizes.

  12. Any opinions on the pleated midi skirt in party dot? I love how it is styled as a hook up with the shirt of the same pattern. My concern is the shirt is apparently silk and the skirt poly? Ugh - whyyyy?? Has anyone seen these in person that could lend an opinion? Thanks in advance!

    1. I am very curious about that skirt too! Is the base color navy? Anyone seen it in store? It's hard to get a good idea of the colors from the website pic.

    2. @Julie - this is exactly why I miss style guides! I can’t tell the colors or details from the website on some items.

    3. ITA about the style guides - I would purchase so much that I wouldn't have given a second look on the site because of an image in the catalog.

    4. +1 - miss the catalogs/style guides so much!

  13. The old j. Crew can’t come to the phone right now. She’s dead. (Ha- any Taylor Swift fans will know what I’m talking about!).
Ditto about missing old Jcrew and their catalogs.

  14. Does anybody know if any stores are having a % off in the US? There are a few popbacks I'd like to try but not without a discount. I hate that this promo excludes sale!

  15. Mine was not today and the SAs seemed to think there wouldn’t be one all weekend.

  16. Anyone have a stackable 15% off code they’d be willing to share or sell? :)

  17. I am so underwhelmed by the new arrivals. I may have been tempted to buy some sale items if it was 40% off but there is zero incentive to purchase. I like the button fly shorts - they're already backordered so may order and hope for a better price before they ship...but that's it. I can't remember being this disappointed by new arrivals in quite a while.

  18. WOW. ALL the items from the collection liberty melody floral are already sold out, in every size, everywhere? Abroad currently, I checked the site at around 2am US time, everything was fully in stock and I went about my day absent mindedly considering whether to order the outfit set or the dress. Lo and behold it's now 5pm US time and I called to ask for help as the items were appearing sold out online - and indeed seems they are gone EVERYWHERE! I'm so upset and shocked - although genuinely excited for the crew as it seems this is one of their more successful launches in recent memory. Wahoo! I guess I will wait for a popback ... wow. Feels like 2013!!

That being said I have to give a shout out for amazing customer service - bought an item in store and explained that the seam on the pocket was ripping (summerweight sweater blazer) and asked if something could be done given I was abroad. The most helpful customer service person I've EVER spoken to at J.Crew offered me the option to ship it back, or to make a note on my account that I could return it from abroad whenever that would be, OR to refund me for repair cost. I'm genuinely awed by this level of customer service and today in combination with the one-day sell out of a Collection item felt as if I was genuinely in the twilight zone of bygone days of the crew!!!

    1. J Crew’s CS continues to be the best. I doubt those items are sold out; it’s an issue with J Crew. I’ve seen this happen before. I wonder if they do it because they didn’t intend for the item to be on promo. Check to see if it comes back at FP with no promo.

    4. Sorry for the multiple replies, I was going to post a direct link to make it easier for the readers but I guess it's just going to be the old copy and paste link.

I saw that dress during the VIP listing but when I checked again today it was never to be seen. I got to say it's probably one of my favorite dress from the Crew this year. The collection liberty dress and also ruffle eyelet dress
in lilac color are the most successful items of this year. For those who are interested with the eyelet dress it can be purchase at net-a-porter.

    5. All of those items are back on the site now with full size runs, but excluded from promo.

  19. I ended up ordering the button fly shorts because the 40% off code worked today and I had a 15% code to stack as well as some rewards. I also ordered the blush metallic gladiator sandals and the 3-strap calf hair sandals.
