JCA "Help Style Me!" Weekly Post

This is the weekly "Help Style Me!" post, where we can share items we are having trouble putting outfits together with. Elaine (in this post) says it best, "You know, that thing you bought because you love it and you keep pulling it out and then putting it away without wearing it?"

Please share your J.Crew item (either that you own or are thinking about getting) that you would love help creating an outfit with.

Also, please help out by offering your styling advice. Feel free to include links to your blog (where you incorporated that piece) or to Polyvore (where you showcased an outfit with that piece). Thanks in advance! :)

  1. WWYD? Yesterday I took shorts out because hello summer. I put on the tie waist shorts in poplin which I may have worn twice (minimally) last summer due to the bow. I noticed the zipper was having issues and when I went to take them off the zipper broke apart. Even if I wore them five times, this shouldn't happen.

This morning I noticed the funnelneck shirt in eyelet added to sale in black and light blue. Most sizes in black are gone but I ordered 2 and 2 tall to try. I sized up to a 4 in the striped version but not sure I really needed the tall as the sleeves are long.

    1. I also order the funnelneck shirt in Black Eyelet. After 50% off and my 20% off card it was only $27.99.

For some reason I received a 20% off card in my last shipment that said "It's nice to meet you". I have been shopping with J.Crew for years so I thought that was odd.
Not that I'm complaining about an extra 20% off ;)

    2. Oh that's great! I only had one 15% and used it yesterday, but I did apply my $10 rewards to the top so if I return one it will be $25.

    3. Suz not sure if you will see this a few days later, but I would definitely reach out to CS and ask if they'll pay for a repair! I've had that done before, for pants that arrived with the pockets cut open when I wanted them shut, and CS paid for the alteration, I had to send in a receipt.

    4. @stripedsocks, I sent an email to CS But haven't heard back yet,

    1. I found this shoe TTS- did not size up, but they are a bit tight in the toes. Sizing up didn't help this, just made them looser in the heel. I love the heel height and the look of these, but I'm not sure if they will be comfortable for all day wear (work) which is what I would want them for. I tried them on in store a few times- ordered a pair in red and black as the price is good. Think the beige would be a good neutral but ended up with red for a pop of color. The verdict is still out on whether they will be wearable for work. If not not sure I will keep - though I'm hoping they will work.

    2. I wondered how they compare with last year's very similar Sophia Pump in patent. Visually they look almost identical but it does look like the toe box is a bit narrower.

    3. Thanks so much!!! They sound very nice, may give them a try!!!! If tight in toe box try freezing a zip lock bag with water overnight, it really stretches very well that way... did many shoes for my teen daughter...

    4. @bythelake, agree completely with your comments. Love my beige patent ones, perfect heigh, cute. By the end of the workday, my sweaty toes were all scrunched on the front. Miserable. I would reconsider, ladies.

  3. JCAS HELP!!!
I was just invited to an afternoon tea in honor of prince Harry/Meghan Markle wedding. Attire calls for fascinator, typical wedding dress. (It's more of a costume thing than serious!). I don't own any dresses that aren't black aside from a red one shouldered number. I really wanted to put together a fun red ensemble with a red fascinator (make or buy). It seems like most of the outfits I see at these royal weddings are solid matte fabrics. I have a red matte flare skirt but it may have gone to school with my daughter. Otherwise all I own for the most part is black. I don't want to buy an outfit I'll only wear once so I'd like to use what I have...any tips? I read neither white nor black is appropriate.

    1. i've seen pics of princess eugenie wearing a red dress with shoulder cutouts w/black hat (fascinator? not sure) and another red dress with wide brim hat w/flowers on it.

i feel like a red dress is pretty attention getting so i would keep the hat and accessories minimal.

    2. It's all kind of ironic, so I want to be a little over the top...
I actually scrounged through the closets and found the red skirt and thought it would work with the recent ivory puffy sleeve crepe top, but then I found this crazy Asos skirt i bought years ago. It's tight and short but has a GIANT asymmetrical ruffle at the bottom. That with the black puffy sleeve top, the tweed bow Avery pumps, a black cummerbund with bow...it's black which I didn't want but super ironic because of the proportions. I'll go over the top with the fascinator. I have a giant black flower clip my sister got me as a joke but might try to find something else, maybe Chanel inspired.

    3. Be sure to post a pic of your outfit - sounds like a fun party!

    4. I def will. Working on my fascinator, which may end up being more like a giant straw hat with flowers and feathers and whatever else.

    5. Fascinator, huh? I learned something new today. I just called them hats. :P Sounds like fun.

    6. I first learned the term when Kate and Silliam got married, otherwise I called them hats too!

    7. Kentuckian here! You might do a quick Google search to get some inspiration as it’s Derby week here and there are hats and fascinators galore!

    8. Yup! I've already done that!

    9. We have a local swap page and I found a wide brim straw hat that was posted a year ago. It was still available (for $5) but ends up the woman's child broke the edge so she gave it to me. I removed the light green ribbon and flower and added my own black, one a giant clip I had and the other from a belt. I still want to add some higher more dimensional pieces but it's pretty cool. 4. Not really on topic, but I got a great deal this morning at Marshall's: a very nice blue Italian leather handbag (brand: Georgia Milani) for the unheard of price of $6.99. It had to be a pricing error as the exact same bag in white is currently $99.99 on the TJ Maxx website. They're part of the same company so their prices are nearly always the same. I posted pictures on Makeupalley, if you're interested in seeing it. My user name there is moonbeam11.

  5. Hi all, I'm thinking of getting the SeaVees sneakers in glitter. I normally wear size 6.5 in heels and flats, but 7 in sneakers (I walk a lot in sneakers and I feel like I need extra room for my feet to expand, if that makes sense). For those that have these SeaVees shoes, do they run big? do you order the same size as your heels/flats size? Does the glitter look subtle like it does online? Thanks!

    1. I don't have the glitter seavees, but I do have other versions and they've been TTS in length and a bit wide (a plus in my case) in the toe. I ordered the charcoal flannel ones yesterday, $30 after promo. Good luck!

    2. I got the red and white striped ones last summer and I find the toes run a little narrow on me in 8.5. I bought the Seavees Chelsea LAGUNA from the Seavees website and ordered the 9 which is a little loose but with an insole perfect. I think I chose the 8.5 because the LAGUNA is a little loose, but probably the 9 would have been better.

    3. Thank you both! I've just placed the order for size 6.5, hopefully they fit with some wiggle room for my toes.

  6. I know this more likely belongs in vent, but with the temps going up so quickly I've had to break out shorts. Why is it every spring even though I carefully store my summer clothes they look like theyve disintegrated over the winter?
First my black tie waist shorts'S zipper broke, I took out linen shorts from previous seasons and they look like garbage, hems coming undone, etc.
It seems only denim shorts really last although I don't find them as comfortable or flattering.

  7. Received part of my order today, the silk twill crossover pants in a size up and the unstructured cotton linen blazer in my usual size.

First the pants. I tried these when they first came out and hated the fit. The size up seems to work better at least at first glance. Posted pics on IG @wearthislikethis.

The blazer. Love it but the 2tall is extremely small. Sleeves are short and shoulders are really tight. It's like its shrunken! Of course I used a coveted extra coupon so when I go return I might see if a store will reorder for me at the same price. It feels REALLY Small.
