J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. I have a bunch of little orders all coming today, and placed an order this morning to try the pleated olive green collection cropped pants and the merino wrap sweater. The pants are iffy but I've been thinking about them since they were released and reasonable at the sale price,

  2. Looks like they've switched the sale rules up again. Promo items (not in .99) aren't eligible for the 30% off anymore.

    1. I noticed that, too. Was going to place a large order but discovered the code doesn’t work on the sale items in my shopping bag. ☹️

    2. same. was going to order 10 items.

    3. Call a vps. They will work with you.

  3. I think it depends on the item. Maybe it depends on the country, but as a Canadian, some of the stuff in the sale section shows that it is eligible for 30% off, but other items don't have the indicator.

  4. I absolutely love new linen dress J0497. Also considering mini gingham skirt. I also got an email this morning with exclusive 30% off code that works on new arrivals.

    1. I finally got one of these codes, too. Unfortunately it doesn't work on anything I want to buy.

  5. There are new arrivals at factory this morning as well including a duplicate of last year’s eyelet shirt dress in green and navy. Anyone out there have a factory coupon to spare? I would like to try a few things. You can email jessfritch at hotmail dot com

    1. @Miss JR Thanks so much but it looks like it has been used already. I appreciate it though!

    2. what?! really? i never used it. :/

    3. i have other ones (the inserts i got from orders) but they're at home on my desk.

      sorry.

    4. Weird. I doubled checked the code twice and it comes up as invalid or expired. No big deal. I have a few coupon inserts from orders as well but they aren’t valid until the 23rd. Maybe that is a sign I should just wait to order!

  6. The Jackie cardigan in gingham is simply hideous.

    1. I agree. There is way too much going on.

    2. I'm on the fence on that one until I see it in person. ;)

    3. It also fits a size small. Between the busy print and the bad fit, I looked like a picnic blanket gone wrong.

      Delete
    4. I think it looks super cute but wouldn't pay anywhere near full price.

    5. Polo Ralph Lauren has a gorgeous sky blue mixed gingham button up shirt. I think I'll save my $$ for that.

    6. I saw that today too. It was cheap and all over the place. There were a few things that were pretty bad.

  7. I decided to try the Drapey Keyhole dress in scarf print and the button back sweater in blush pink.
I noticed J.crew has started skimping on product details. The length of the dress is not listed as well as the material content.

    1. I really like that scarf print dress but agreed on the lack of details - I'll be curious to see how long it is and what the fabric content is. Hoping for silk but guessing it's probably poly.

      Delete
    2. That's what I am afraid of. I am guessing if it were silk they would have included it in the description.

    3. Yes, please post more info when your dress arrives! It's the only thing I was even passingly interested in, but I won't bite on picture alone. I also wish they'd say if the keyhole opens. I think I can see a hook and eye, but not sure?

      Delete
    4. The lack of product information infuriates me. Fabric content is basic essential information!

      Delete
    5. I've noticed that "drapey" is pretty much code for polyester.

      Delete
    6. I love that dress. It is the only item from these new arrivals that interests me. But, I was suspicious too about fabric content. I just called customer service and they advised that the fabric content is "viscose/crepe which is like a jersey material". They also advised that it is lined. I am going to give it a pass now that I know the fabric content. I hope that helps.

  8. I wait until the next roll out...there isn't ant item I love...

  9. J. Crew seems to have some pretty, bright, abstract watercolor prints that they're only using for hideous shoes. The Blanche mules with the feathers, and the strappy heel with raffia bow have prints I'd love to see on actual clothes!

  10. A store may be able to place the order with 30% off. This is a poor business practice since the items are showing up in the sale section.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Exactly, Mygoddy. I didn't give it a second thought as the extra percentage off always worked before but now, no. It is probably for the best, though. I really don't need any more clothes/shoes/accessories.
J Crew is saving me money.

    2. I have had no problems whatsoever with extra price percentages being applied to a sale item or non sale item. My VPS does her work and very very well so no complaints here. CS has applied the same methods and I have received rock bottom prices. If a price is lower in a store, or vice versa I still receive a very fair discounted price. I am not near any store, I am back in Monte-Carlo. I’m missing my former JCRew store a little.

  11. Button back sweater - if anyone tries this can you report back if it can be worn reversed like a cardigan?

  12. Madewell is doing so well right now at putting out whimsical, interesting, even somewhat preppy designs. It's like that part of J. Crew just disappeared and went there. When really there is room for J. Crew to retain its own spin on that.

  13. Some try ons today.

Twist back tee doesn’t work for me at all. Too wide and short in both sizes I tried.

High rise shorts in seersucker fit perfectly. My smaller size just fits but I know this fabric will give a little and the size up will end up being too loose.

Got a pop back of the glitter Mary Jane flats with embellishments. Love the glitter color. They fit well in my smaller (Gemma) size. They’re really flat so I need to try with jeans and see how I feel. They almost feel too delicate.

Also ordered extra wide leg camo pants in my size and two sizes up for my daughter. Not sure what her size will be but thought the bigger would work well on the hips. I tried them and they’re cute like that. For the price I might keep them and cut the bottoms.

    1. Also got the marled cotton sweater in the ivory/charcoal colorway. Fit is terrible. I sized up to a small knowing it was short but it's still short and really wide/boxy with unflattering shoulders. Even for the great price and the fact that it's cotton it's going back.

  14. Ordered 2 pairs of Evie heels that were newly in the sale section this morning. Called CS and they applied the 30% of sale no problem - said there was a 'glitch' resulting in the 30% not coming off some of the things it should. So....might be worth a phone call. Online chat seems to be down?

  15. Striped crewneck sweater in everyday cashmere (H6182) - The body felt TTS, but the arms are definitely short and tight. When I first put it on, I thought it was too constricting in the arms but within a minute or two it probably stretched. The thing is that the cuffs have about a 4” ribbing, which makes them feel tight on your forearms because that ribbing should really be down by the wrists. I have long arms and the sleeve on this ended at about my elbow with the ribbing stretching into the middle of my forearm. It’s hard to describe, and it didn’t look bad but it felt strange. If they were going to make the arms that short then maybe they should have left off the ribbing altogether. The “poppy” is more like a neon red and made the ivory stripes (which seemed more like a light camel to me) look almost like a very light pink.

Cropped lightweight cardigan in stripe (H9342) - TTS, didn’t feel too cropped but I also have a short torso. Nice to see a true white/navy stripe instead of ivory/tan/beige/muslin and navy. No pockets. Not incredibly soft, had kind of a stiffer feeling knit. The button placket felt like a different material than the sweater, almost like it was a very wide grosgrain. It’s cute enough, but I didn’t love it even at $15.

    1. The striped crewneck cashmere sweater was a hot mess on me. If I'm wearing cashmere, I want long sleeves. Sleeves are terrible, weird ribbing and way too short. Fit was short, wide and generally unflattering on me. It was dirt cheap but it's going back.

      Delete
    2. I returned the striped cashmere sweater too. The sleeves are indeed short & tight and the body short and wide. No comparison to my Ruffle-sleeve crewneck in striped everyday cashmere which I love love love.

    3. I'm on the fence about the striped cashmere sweater. I definitely see your points about the weird fit - it was comfortable as long as I pulled the sleeve up a bit, but the tightness of the arms and the boxyness of the body made me look like I had thin arms and a wide torso. On the other hand - cashmere for less than $25?!?! On the OTHER OTHER hand, that neon red/orange/pink color is hard to match with anything in my closet. I am keeping for now but may end up returning this weekend.

    4. Honestly @eeps, other that the above mentioned Ruffle-sleeve, I've been liking my merino sweaters more than cashmere. Today I'm wearing a Harlow cardigan with an charcoal/ivory stripe and a little fringe on the v-neck and pockets. I realized it beats that cashmere sweater hands down! And I'm not fretting over pills.

    5. @pbanos - very true! I've been getting a lot of use out of the merino sweater blazer.

  16. Tried the wrap dress in black. I was hoping for something like the fantastic black Jersey knit Crew dress I bought 10 years ago. Alas, no. For one, it feels like a tangled mess, with heavier parts because of the wrap and knots. It didn't feel secure, either, being a true, not faux, wrap. The fabric felt cheap as well. Yes, the old dress wasn't 'thick', but it was quality and really lasted. I did keep the Chino ruffle jacket and am using it a lot since it's versatile, and the metal zipper pull on my field mechanic jacket came off, rendering it useless until I attach something else to it. I ordered a few crewcuts things as well. Most seem nice and are stylish. I'll return the kids version of the field mechanic jacket, since my son didn't care for it, it doesn't seem very useful (it's very thin) and mine is OOC for matching purposes anyway.

  17. I received the deep peri new perfect fit tee yesterday in my regular size small. It is ENORMOUS. I ordered it because the store I visited had no size smalls in stock. However, the XS they had out was LARGER than the medium. These tees are my go-to tops all spring and summer. It's really sad that the sizing seems to be off now. I don't know what size to order anymore.

    1. Hi shopalot, That’s my go to tee as well, sad to hear of the sizing issues. I just bought the yellow stripe one and luckily it was consistent. I really hope this gets fixed.

    2. I have all of the new striped ones and they are fine. Be sure to check out the vibrant flame stripe on Nordstrom.com. It seems the new solid colors are cut differently. Definitely more roomy in the body, which isn’t working for me. Fit is more like a Talbots top, or maybe Lands End.

  18. I got the tie-waist shirtdress in stripe, and it's gorgeous. Very well made, nice drape, quality fabric. A real classic. I'm short, but petites are too high-waisted for me, and the regular size fit well. The reviews are right . . it does run small. I went one size up from my normal J.Crew dress size, and it fit perfectly.

  19. I ordered the grey and cream striped robe. It's very cute and a keeper. Also the Twist-back long-sleeve T-shirt which I thought I didn't need until I put it on - flirty in the back, and it fits my hourglass shape well. The fabric has a good hand. I am a 34C and ordered a medium instead of small based on the reviews. Good choice.

    1. I had my eye on that robe - such a good price. May still grab it if it's available. That tee was a winner for me too - also hourglass shape. I bought in pink and grey and such a steal. Also bought a medium (32E).

    2. Hopefully it will pop up again.
I'd get a second twist tee in the grey!
Speaking of shirts that fit an hourglass, the New Balance in-transit long sleeve tee at Factory is a perfect athletic shirt with some shape.

  20. Sale order arrived.

Denim Swing jacket is very cute and well executed but the style doesn't flatter my figure. It has potential though if swing style jackets work for you. I took a medium, the smaller of my two letter sizes.

Lookout hi rise jeans in white. These were a bit see through for me - and not forgiving in showing any extra weight. Will be a return.

Evie ballet flat in silver - fits like the pink leather ones and true to my size 7.5. The accommodate my wide duck like feet. I will wear these lots for work. Keeping.

Evie ballet flats in pink hologram. A bit more snug than the leather and silver versions and while cute may be too cute for 40 something. On the fence.

  21. I tried the slingback low heels in the pink colourway, the colour was very pretty and the quality seemed pretty good but they looked a little too retro on for me. Also the toe box felt tight in my usual size. I’m sure others will really like them, the low heel felt comfortable.
