Weekly Share: Other JCrew-like Retailers

This is the weekly "Other JCrew-like Retailers" post (similar to the "Off On A Tangent" posts), where we can share our finds from other retailers that have offerings similar to J.Crew (like Anthropologie, LE Canvas, Gap, BR, Talbots, Ann Taylor, and the like.)

If you have recently encountered items that are similar to J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including experiences with certain merchandise pieces, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. I mentioned in yesterday’s Review thread - Talbots new catalog is remarkably like old school J Crew. Pretty alpine styles, colored cords, Sperry boots, bright cashmere cables, merino knits and work dresses.

    1. My catalog came with a 30% off and free shipping card inside to present in stores - to use it online, the card says to use your customer number which is in a yellow box on the back of the catalog. Good through November 5!

  2. Got email from Anthropologie regarding 25th anniversary pre-shop. Do not like a single item from that collection :( None of it I would wear to work, around the house or to the party. Seems like every single retailer I loved went downhill in terms of quality and style :(

    1. I went in several Anthro stores in NYC recently. Terrible clothes. The quality was no better than H & M and the prices were high. Did not try on a single item and I have been a big Anthro shopper. Terrible stuff.

  3. Yesterday someone mentioned 50% off sale at Banana. I haven't shopped there or Gap other than basic tanks for working out, in ages. (My last order from gap/ON was a year ago!). I wear tanks under almost everything in cooler weather and alone in warmer weather. Tried two for about $5 each. A fully lined midi skirt that's part of the Olivia Palermo collab for under $25, etc. Today sweaters are an extra 10% off as well. Last year I remember people here said the merino sweaters were nice quality. Not sure what will work since I haven't worn the clothes in forever but worth a shot.

    1. I'm very pleased with all of my Banana Republic merino sweaters. They are rivaling J Crew with the gorgeous colors, too. I bought so many last season because the prices couldn't be beat. Hope you like what you ordered!

    2. I agree with shopalot - I really like both the BR merino boyfriend sweater and the merino scalloped crewneck sweater I got last year.

    3. I don't think I ordered a sweater because I have the same from Crew but as the season progresses and they are marked down further I definitely will stock up on my usual black/gray.

  4. Nordstrom has a couple of Madewell summer denim and JCrew summer stuff on sale for 40% off.

  5. If you really want to get a chuckle, look at the new arrivals at Loft. OMG, such awful stuff. Almost every top is cold shoulder, bell sleeve or a combination. Horrible fabrics & styles that don't even look flattering on the models. Bad fashion everywhere - thank goodness I have lots of clothes at home and can shop my closet.
