Sought & Found: Did you visit J.Creaw this {past} Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopped by a J.Crew store this past weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store was/ is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

  1. I think there was a minor update in the sale section although the 14% off descriptions are throwing me off. There is so much that has been hanging around forever, maybe a new round of "Let it Gooooo" is in order!

    2. And on top of that crappy discount scheme, the site is not working properly. It will not let me put anything in my cart. Guess J Crew really does not want to move things so they can bring in new inventory.

  2. The whole thing is a mess. Five "deals" online, all different for all different things, please, give us a break. They're making it really unpleasant.

    1. I agree, I don't think I have purchased anything since they started these new pricing games.

    2. It doesn’t help their image at all. Throwing a grab bag of discounts at customers is something Old Navy does, and I don’t think that’s the brand J.Crew intends to emulate (at least not retail).

    3. Yes, this does seem very ON. Probably their response to the five days of discounts the other week - "Well, nobody seems to like a different sale every day, so we'll take the whole week of "deals" and run them all at once!" Unpleasant is a great descriptor, Suz.

    4. 5 reasons I won’t need to check the website this week!

    5. Of course the ONE sweater I want is excluded from all promos. Count me as another JCA who won't be checking the website this week. Plus the aforementioned disaster of Mercantile merchandise showing up on the regular site. I visited the Factory store last week and was not impressed with the poor quality and lackluster designs on offer. The prices were way too high for the quality. I'm so sad that J Crew seems to be going in a very bad direction but thankful that I have lots of clothes so I can shop my closet!

  4. I keep telling myself that JCrew can come back... That they can pull themselves out of this slump. Reduce starting prices, improve quality, do 3 separate sites that share one cart and stop with the silly sales. I think that's common sense.

BUT every time I turn around, they do another stupid thing and this mercantile stuff on retail site has me convinced that JCrew really is done.

    2. I am very annoyed by this Mercantile stuff mixing with retail. From what I remember of the Mercantile concept, they use the same quality/material as Factory - lower quality to be sold exclusively at outlets - so putting it with retail JC dilutes the JC quality/brand. As if JC doesn't already have problems with the retail division.

    3. I do appreciate that the items are clearly labeled 'Mercantile'. I would not like it if it was buried in the description. That would be very deceptive.

Does seem odd that it's been added to the retail site, though. Not a fan of this idea, either.

    4. I emailed CS and complained about it. I received a response and the rep misunderstood me to complaining about third-party brands that J.Crew sells; Converse, Commes de Garçon...good grief. I had to reply and said No Mercantile and Factory on the J.Crew website. It cheapens that brand and makes my online experience unbearable.

    5. For the most part, there is a direct inverse relationship between price and quality. At the same time people complain about the declining quality, they express frustration they can't get free shipping with the 30% off promo.

I miss the old J Crew. But I'd rather pay more than get the quality of construction / material / design back. I'd be happier in the long run. It great to get a bargain, but most cheap clothes don't turn out to be a bargain in the end.

    6. @LilyBart, I agree. But the time to keep people paying more was when they still made their sweaters in all wool, shoes in Italy with leather soles, and didn't claim that lining certain skirts and pants was a wanton luxury. There has been a recent, all-around shift to lower quality, and at the same time they're asking higher prices. It's frustrating because it's too late. If they had eased up on the deep discounts before showing quality the door, they might still be struggling but have a future and a chance to convince us to pay for what we are asking for. Now they've learned to ask for more, but the quality overall no longer justifies it. I don't see a way out.

    7. I agree, Sarah (and LilyBart, too) - I don’t see them making their way back from this. This is why they changed their review sorting to show the highest rated reviews first; because a lot of the most helpful or most recent reviews are “Not the same”, “Terrible quality” or “What happened?I”. People are trying to replace beloved older items (I’m thinking coats in particular) only to find the quality is no longer there, PLUS they have the old item and the new one to make a side-by-side comparison.

While pulling out my fall sweaters, I found 2 cotton flannel boy shirts from 2007. They are soft, but the fabric is very smooth - no pilling, no loose or hanging threads, the buttonholes are cleanly done and the buttons are intact/not cracked. I also found the shrunken buffalo check boy shirt (E0696) from last fall. The fabric is much thinner and crumpled, and pilling down the sides where the arms brush against the shirt. At first glance, you’d think THAT was the 10-year old shirt.

But what can they do? They’ve already ruined their staples/classics by cutting the fabric with acrylic and/or poly. I think they’ve been counting on their customers being so dazzled by their design and marketing that they don’t care about quality, but that’s been lacking too. I hate to say it (and as a ride-or-die JCA I never thought I would), but I don’t think that they’ll be around at this time next year.

    8. I’m happy to pay more for quality. There are plenty of fast fashion brands out there - JC shouldn’t be one of them. Building brand loyalty means building trust with the customer, and JC is wasting two decades of trust with this nonsense they’re pulling. If I can no longer tell the difference between a JC garment and that of H&M or Forever21 or Zara, then I am going to stop shopping at JC because why bother?

    9. @eeps. I agree. I will pay more for quality but it just isn't at JC anymore. When the last release came out and all the sweaters I liked had some acrylic content I gave up. I expect acrylic in factory sweaters and F21, h&m sweaters but not JC retail. I am branching out and scouring other retailer which is something I really haven't done in Years since 90% of my wardrobe is JC. When I saw one of our JCA's reviewing the "tweed" topcoat and read how bad the fabric was it didn't give me any hope. Either did reading all the terrible reviews for this years iteration of the Chateau Parka.

  5. I went by Madewell on Saturday to return something, and they were offering an additional discount on sale. Anthro as well, plus BR. If I were a casual shopper and I saw this, I'd think: why am I shopping at JC when everyone else is offering a discount on their sale? I did end up browsing Madewell and Anthro, but for the first time skipped JC. Not even the thought of a holiday catalog tempted me to go in.

    2. nice that madewell was offering an extra percentage off their sale -- I've really missed that since they seemed to really decrease its frequency earlier this year. also a little disappointed that my local store in baltimore didn't have an extra percentage off sale when I stopped by friday afternoon. but there are so many new pretty things that I have my eyes set on those, anyway. madewell's latest rollout was great.

  7. After getting annoyed by the website nonsense on Sat. My money went to Banana and Brooks Brothers. Banana had 50% off sale with a free ship code and an extra 10% for cardholders. Ordered the Lace Shirtdress in a pretty cranberry color. Ordered two sizes since returns are free. Also ordered the wool windowpane Cami to wear under my blazers/ Cardis. Ordered a plaid shirtdress from the Brooks Brothers Red Fleece line which is cotton. At this point all the website issues and oddities have me looking elsewhere. I don't need much so I will continue to look elsewhere for pieces until the Crew gets their stuff together or completely falls apart. The five promos at once they rolled out today is not a step in the right direction.

  8. On the page for the Daphne coat in Italian tweed there is red print "15% OFF $175 OR MORE WITH CODE MOREISMORE." However in my cart the coat is labeled EXCLUDED FROM PROMO and the 15% is not taken off the price.

Has anyone tried this on? No reviews

    1. Hi justme - our own maqsad just reviewed it today on her Insta. Personally, I'd take a screenshot of the item page where the 15% off verbiage is and send it to CS to see if they'd honor the discount.

    2. Hi justme! I agree with silver_lining, I would ask if they would give you the discount. I tried it the other week with something that was labeled wrong and they gave it to me.

    3. Thanks ladies! Yikes, it's really disappointing to read that review. Thanks for the link silver-lining. I guess I'll save my money for the next rollout.

  9. It looks like they are merging factory with retail. today's sale section has stuff identified as J.Crew Mercantile. dang.

  10. Yes, shopping at J Crew has gone from exhilarating to unbearable, indeed. They're attempting to retrain the customer to pay higher prices, simultaneously degrading their product. Illogical. They cannot stop making shoes in Italy and then decide their shoes need to cost more than when they did make them in Italy. Sorry, but you cannot train me to be a complete idiot. I'll just shop elsewhere. Not sorry.

    1. I am retrained, but maybe not in the way they'd like. I'm retrained to never check the sale section. I check it a few times a year now, when I used to check it first thing every morning and purchase things. I'm retrained to not go to the store on the day of a rollout or a mini rollout. I'm retrained not to order a bunch of stuff, because chances are I won't like it in person and I'll probably return almost all of it.
I'm not even upset about the pricing games because I buy so little now. That's how they've retrained me.

  11. And now, they put some current items on Rue La La today, some cheaper and some more expensive? Makes no sense. Miss JR's comment above I agree with - such simple things they should be doing. I miss the affordable luxury brand that was classic, quirky, and showed at fashion week. I miss the unique pieces. This feels like any other mall store lately.
