"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Good morning, JCA's! JC made a tiny change to their site - on the item page, reviews are now defaulting to show the "highest rated" review first, instead of the "most helpful" review. Pretty sneaky, JC. (Factory still shows the "most helpful" first, BTW.)

  2. Return-and-rebuyers, be careful! I recently re-ordered the bow pencil skirt after a massive price drop. Luckily I kept the original one I bought because the second one, purportedly the exact same size, was much bigger, and fit completely differently, than the first one I bought. Scratching my head.

  3. I actually was thisclose to buying a few sweaters for less than $30 each...figured they could be good work items with this middle of the road weather we're having in the Northeast. Then I quickly glanced through the pant section and was infuriated that the summer pull on cargos I paid $12.99 for in July are now $39.99 at the end of October! I wound up ebaying them and certainly do not want another pair, but I am resentful of JC treating their longtime (I'm talking 20+ years) regular customers this way. Money will go elsewhere today.

  4. Scrolling through the new arrivals section, JC could easily be mistaken for Madewell right now. Very masculine, casual vibe. Leftover from Somsack's direction I presume. Really missing the cleaner, more feminine looks.

  5. I just left a store (was making some returns) and the sale section was packed. Apparently, they marked down a lot of stuff last night. I was just looking at the website noticed some of the items are not marked down online. Some things I noticed were the Heart Organza skirt, Liberty Excursion Vest, Camoflouge Shirt Jacket, and the Regent Blazer with Velvet tie.

    1. Also, the Daisylace Bell Sleeve top, Asymmetrical Ruffle sweatshirt, the Pom Pom sweatshirt, and the leopard sweatshirt.

    2. Ok, one last thing I remember. The Tie-Waist star print pants. I think they were $59.99.

    3. I'm curious as to what the in store price is on that regent blazer with the velvet tie.

    4. Shopping Celle, I called to double check for you and it is $148.99. They only had a size 2 and 12.

    5. @Lauren, thank you for the updates.

    6. The liberty excursion vest is marked down??!! Does anybody know/remember how much it is in store? My local store is already closed so I can't call. TIA!

    7. Anthro Blogger, I was surprised to see it in the sale section too! I’m pretty sure it was marked down to $89.99.

    1. I really love the color of this. It's been on my wish list since it first came out. I'm just not sure how I'd wear it, since it's so over-sized.

    2. It is actually not that oversized once you size down. I will wear it with skinnies, leggings and my other love (the slim boyfriend in silverlake wash).

    3. @Ina and @mary I love this shirt as well and I am more of a J Crew shopper than Madewell. Why didn't J Crew think of using some solid flannel in their lineup instead of the same old patterns we see everywhere? I have the cream J Crew collection dress from a few years back and the solid seems so classic. I know they're technically the same "brand" overall but I think J crew missed the mark there.

  9. I stopped off today for some online returns. I wanted to look at the crepe ruffle sleeve top, the embellished sweater...the top looks nice but the body seemed very wide. Not interested right now but maybe on sale. Sweater wasn't for me, in person I wasn't crazy about the embellishment. Sale section was pretty full but nothing I needed to try.

Since I liked some of banana's online offerings I decided to stop in there. A few cute things but for the most part it feels more "office" attire than what my lifestyle calls for.

As far as window shopping, Club Monaco and one store I never heard of grabbedmy attention. (Going to look up the name). I'll report back. I think CM is a bit pricy for my needs but maybe I need to only buy one or two pieces.

  10. I saw a preview of some holiday things and there was lots of tartan: tartan seaveas, tartan scarf, tartan pouch and tartan flats.

    1. Ooooh, promising. What were the main colors?

    2. It was all classic tartan and one red sweater in the preview.

    3. Thanks @Ina! Can't wait for the holiday rollout!

    4. Ina, do you know if the calf hair crossbody in the Vogue lookbook slide 16 from fall fashion 2017 show is in the holiday rollout? I’ve asked VPS about it a few times. No one seems to have any info. In the slide it resembles a Clare V pouch clutch, but the VPS called it a crossbody (though I didn’t see straps). Thank you.

    5. Old Navy rolled out their holiday collection last week with a lot of tartan and velvet, some cute affordable things. It seems like everyone is in the midst of their holiday offerings, J Crew needs to get into gear.

    6. I cannot wait for tartan. Please redeem yourself with this JC!

    7. Also there will be a hobo and a tote.
@cmg let me try to find out.

    8. Roll out is Nov 7. I posted a pic that my VPS sent me, on IG (fleurdelijs) of new tartan items: sneakers, flats, scarf etc. Love the #oldschooljcrew vibe

    9. @fleur de lys, I just insta requested you!

    10. @cmg it seems like the leopard bag is in the next rollout. If you look at the pic that @fleurdeljis posted from the rollout,it seems its in the picture. HTH

    11. @cmg, according to the email I received from my VPS, it's item #G7996.

    12. Hmmmm, I just received G7996 and while it's alright, it's more of a large flat pouch than the bigger clutch that was in the NYFW images. I wonder if it changed that much between NYFW and now...it's certainly possible.

  11. I received the poncho and the tartan bomber. I like them both but the ponchos swallows me up (5'2 and a little roly poly) and the tartan bomber's sleeves are SO long....but because there are no buttons I wonder if I could get them hemmed or maybe have cuffs added (but then that increase the price). If I keep the poncho, I just don't know how to style it. I will say I'm looking forward to the sweater paired with those bow chinos - looks like a fair isle and mine from a few years ago got caught on something and ripped a hole in it :(

  12. Just venting to say I miss the % off on the sale section. I miss the stalking (SAD :))!

  13. They have taken the fun out of the hunt!

  14. The catalog/lookbook/flyer arrived this week for November. It's horrible. Why have they done this? It's so skimpy and combined with men's and children's stuff, there isn't much to look at.

    ReplyDelete
  15. How about the "new arrivals" including J Crew Mercantile (i.e., factory) merchandise (which has been on the other site for some time, so it's only "new" to the main site). Ugh..

    ReplyDelete
  16. A short vent...Why cant JCrew offer free shipping over $50?! Why do the rewards have an expiration date?! I dont see anything that I really want to use my rewards on. I earned it I should be able to use it for at least 6 months. All of these cropped pants for the winter who does that! Where is the holiday stuff?! No real style guide for the holidays!

    1. 100% agree.
And 200% agree with cropped pants in winter. My office is already freezing.
Didn't they know the catalog (style guide when only option) was my adult version of the children's toy catalog I pored over?
