J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs!}

This is the weekly "J.Crew Reviews {straight from the JCAs}" post, to help each other share our reviews.

So if you have recently purchased, or stopped by a J.Crew store to try on an item (or two) from J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Also, this request is not just limited to clothes. Please feel free to discuss bags, shoes, jewelry, accessories, etc.

In particular, if you could mention a few of the noteworthy details like fit, size, fabric, and the like— that would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! :)

  1. Does anyone have pics of the collection double breasted velvet blazer in the bright lichen? TIA!

  2. Not a review, but I have a stackable 20% off code that I won't be using & expires tonight: NCSKSNRFV Please post if you use it, thanks!

  3. Subtle Boatneck Sweater, Guava Berry - IRL the color is nothing like it appears on my monitor. It is a dusky, cool purplish pink, not the warmer brighter coral pink I was wanting. Otherwise, it's a nice sweater. Soft, medium-weight 55%wool 45%cotton blend. Roomy enough for layering, the semi-fitted description is accurate IMO, tts. I'm 5'3.5" and it hits below my hip bone.

Belted Cross-back top, black - TTS. Slim fit, but not tight. Nice medium weight knit. Looks more polished that a regular tee. A good work option, if you can dress a bit casual. Room enough to layer a thin tee comfortably. I tried a button down and it worked, maybe a little snug. Getting the belt to look right was a bit of work.

  4. FYI, J.Crew is on RueLaLa today, including many items from the last rollout. Maybe this is their new way to move merch since they won't do an extra % off sale.

    1. Not surprisingly, some of the following "hits" are on there: cashmere lame ruffle sweater for 59.99, triple ruffle sleeve sweater in every color for 24.99, poplin cold shoulder top for 24.99, poly ruffle halter top in every color for 24.99. There are some cute shoes though.

    2. Now I've seen everything. Surreal

    3. Things get worse everyday. Normally I’m optimistic when it comes to Jcrew but things have gotten worse and the current team is killing their image.

    4. So there are items on rue that are less expensive than on the JCrew site and NOT final sale. WTF.

    5. This move is another head scratcher.

    6. There is also a small mishmash of items on nordstromrack.com. Anybody see any JC items at their local TJMaxx/Marshalls?

Why in the world did they close the clearance center before rolling out a ton of OTS styles for over half a year? What are they going to do with this stuff now that winter is coming? It's not even like it's feasible to pop a sweater on over an OTS or one-shoulder top.

    7. I think the nordstromrack.com stuff is at least coming from the JC they sell at Nordstrom.

    8. I want to scream!!! J.Crew, comeback please. Don't do this. Why would you allow Rue La La to sell item# G9696 for $110, but have it on your site with promo code for $210? Wouldn't the profits be better served if purchased from your website directly?

    9. Received my Tiered bell-sleeve top today . Inside the package, a little card for 20% discount for .. Shutterfly (?)
      The top is nice though.

    10. @carmel the avery tweed pumps are also like $70 cheaper on Rue. Not sure why they sent them current merchandise in addition to the clearance stinkers.

    11. Why are they doing this?? The burgundy bell sleeve ponte dress (G9476) is $69.99 on Rue and still $138 on the website. Why are they paying Rue to move their merch when they could sell it easily on their own site if they brought back the additional % off.

This combined with moving factory and mercantile onto the website and no longer doing extra % off the sale section has pretty much killed any interest I had in shopping at JC anymore. What in the world are they thinking?!

    12. I posted side by side screen shots of a skirt I've been thinking abt from JCrew which is $30 less on Ru and not final sale. Tagged JCrew and wrote a long comment. Pipe in and maybe someone will get the message. @wearthislikethis on IG

    13. Factory items on retail sale site... really dislike this

    14. Rue? Seriously?

It’s as if they are actively trying to give customers a reason to shop elsewhere ... quality decline to parity w fast fashion, unique and special details/prints/styles gone, overly trendy designs available everywhere, prices too high for quality, discontinued catalogs and promotions, and now several moves away from an exclusive distribution strategy. Wow.

As important as we JCAs think we are, we are really only a tiny percentage of J Crews customers, and the average customer will not be aware of most of these changes over time (newer JCAs might not, either). The average customer also doesn’t have the same brand loyalty and willingness to “forgive” the brand as JCAs do, and it’s hard to believe any of these recent developments are going to turn this around.

    15. They are never going to win the race to the bottom on price. The red price markings all over the discount are an eyesore. That and the factory stuff is so cheapening to the brand. If they would just make differentiated products focused on quality they would not have to compete on price. That's what they did when their sales were so good. The current strategy is not going to get them anywhere.

  5. Is there a consensus on the "everyday cashmere'?

    1. I tried the sweater with the ruffle on the front. It wasn't super soft but wasn't immediately pilling right out of the bag. It is a medium weight. I'd say department store quality based on my 5 second try on but I didn't keep the sweater since the ruffle was so flappy, so I can't comment on how it holds up to true wear and washing.

  6. Pull on toothpicks- if they had real front pockets I might have kept them but they still read as leggings and I couldn't get over it. Size one up from your normal jeans size. The waistband did roll but not too terribly.

Tie front long sleeve tee. HAHAHAHA. It comes with ginormous tails- longer than my legs. They wrap around your body several times. They are symmetrical and originate from the center so if you tie it on one hip your bow is lopsided and very small. Much too fussy for me to want to store or style every time I put it on. I wish the tee part was longer (story of my life these days at J Crew). The neckline and sleeves were flattering though. I tried the blue, the material is quite thin so I imagine the white would be sheer

Always chambray shirt. Body fit nicely in my bigger shirt size (the one I take for Liberty button downs), a little relaxed but still flattering and keeping my shape. I found the arms weirdly wide, especially because I feel the armholes were actually on the smaller side? But I felt like I had scarecrow arms and there was extra fabric flapping around. None of the reviews mention this, is it just me?

Mini umbrella- wouldn't open, very stiff. Fail.

I'm sad about another full order going back. I hope with all the holiday tartan coming I'll be able to find at least one winner.

    1. Sorry, that's the everyday chambray shirt in Madera wash, not the always chambray

    2. Funny, I just returned a couple of shirts to Factory because I found the arms too wide....and I definitely don’t have thinner than average arms. I would prefer the extra fabric in body length. The Crew is not the only retailer guilty of this....I have found it an issue a lot lately.

  7. Few reviews: all keepers
[] wide leg pant polka dot G8645 : It runs at least one size small. As per description, pants arent lined. Very long (I'm 5'8")and will need high heels or to hem them
[] Parker blazer H0269 : runs TTS to slightly larger. Material, construction, lining, color SCH ( soft chartreuse?) . Love
[] signet bag with printed strap G8401 Yellow . Love
[] long-sleeve stripped dressG7980 . I wasn't expecting to like this one but with oxfords and a denin jacket, keeper.
[] tiered bell-sleeve top in drapey silk H4411 black. Like it a lot. This is one top from JC that the regular size isn't short short. I ordered the tall size and it will work. Got another one in regular size at my BM and is just as fine. Love

    1. Thanks, Nan. How's the sizing on the Long Sleeve Striped Dress? Also curious about the length. Would you say it's more tunic length? Thanks again.

    2. @ maryeb, I'd say tts. Fitted, not boxy/shapeless . Lengthwise : bellow knee ( I'm 5'8") . Material is thick (nice, in a St James thickness way )

    3. Hi maryeb - I'd say TTS as well. Love the cut - not as slim in the upper arms/shoulders as the stripe maxi dress (F1725). Dress is midi length on me at 5'5" and I'd eventually like to hem it an inch, but I can still wear it as-is with heels/wedges and it looks great.

    4. @Nan Really like the choices. I'm a fan of the silk polka dot pants and agree about sizing. Striped dress fits me like others have commented too. Thanks for feedback on tiered bell sleeve top. Glad you found some things to love.

    5. @mygoddy, You are to blame on the stripped dress / saw a pic on your Insta:) I also tried it with JC mules ( ratti?/blue&white with blue pompom) and like the look as well. On the silk pants in polka dots.I ordered two sizes and kept the larger one.Did you hem yours to a length wearable with flats and kitten heels ? I'm tempted..

    6. @Nan So glad you liked it too! 😀I'm just over 5.8, so I won't hem the pant. If I needed to though, I wouldn't hesitate. I think J Crew provides alterations; I've never used them because I have a tailor that's really good and affordable. Good luck with them!

  8. Star print cardigan - fit is tts. I like the print and the color scheme is versatile. Wish it wasn't an acrylic blend. I have the merino wool star Tippi from last year, so I know J Crew could make this all wool at the same price point. I like the ribbon detail and the pockets. It's cute with tres chic tee; see @jcrewismyfavoritestore on IG.

Merino blazer with striped lining - Size down. Very nice mid weight wool. I love stripes so this style will work well for me and provides a good option to a cardigan.

Sweater blazer in merino wool - Size down. Purchased cabernet color and it's a beautiful color for fall/winter. This is a keeper too.

Moon earrings - Really cute. Dainty earring that will be a fun option to wear.

Everlane E-1 Tunic - First purchase from the brand and happy with this sweater. FIt's slightly oversized. Fabric is substantial in 100% merino wool; it looks like a cable knit wool and I'm very pleased with the look/style. Looks much more expensive than it's retail price & a steal @ $70 & no tax. I also bought wool/cashmere cardigan but haven't received it.
