Seek & Find: Will you visit J.Crew this Weekend?

This is the weekly "sale watch" post, to help each other find sale items at our various local J.Crew stores. ;)

If you are stopping by a J.Crew store this weekend to see what's available (if anything!) in the SALE, or to see some NEW ARRIVALS {sigh!} in person, maybe you might be willing to share that with us in this post. In particular, if you could share with us a few of the noteworthy items that are available, at what prices, and potential sizes the store is carrying (as well as the store location)- that would be fantastic!

Also, please let us know if your local store is carrying an additional percent off sale. Thanks in advance!!! :)

P.S. I noticed that many of you have already been reporting sale items (and in which stores) in other posts which by the way "thank you!" :) I really appreciate how helpful we are for each other!

  1. Last night I looked through the sale section hoping for some retail therapy and there wasn't even anything tempting. This morning I got an email with a big "50% off sale" and when I clicked, it was the same 40% off, it actually says "up to 50% off sale." There are 58 women's items in the 50% off section. And many of them were 60% off a few weeks ago.

  2. Went into my local b&m yesterday to do a return. Chatting to a long-time SA, I commented that no doubt fall styles will soon be arriving. He said that they had just been given information and shown a company video about the upcoming rollouts - and that JC has decided on a 'wear it now' philosophy for the rest of the year. So we won't be seeing wool sweaters in August. He said coats are not scheduled for delivery before October. Apparently they are trying to keep store stock reasonably season-appropriate going forward. We shall see what that means, but as a concept I kinda like it.

    1. To me, this is a big "ugh." It means an all-in "fast fashion" philosophy ... churn out the cheap trends and sell ''em in the moment while they're hot.

Sometimes it seems weird to be shopping for wool coats in August, but high-quality updated classics that can be worn for more than one season (hell, in some cases, one week!) are what J Crew has excelled at. I really hope there will be some of those styles coming this fall.

The "Tencil" Romper and Lame Fringe Sweater are not giving me much hope.

      Delete
    2. Ruffles I am in agreement with you that this seems like they are full on boarding the fast fashion train. I really need to find a new place to shop. The items I saw for the next rollout were the worst I have seen to date. And I can only imagine quality getting worse with this philosophy.

      Delete
    3. @cagliari67, in theory, I kind of like it, too. I'm generally not crazy about shopping for clothes too far out if season, in part because I store my off-season items. That generally means I forget some of the stuff I have, and what I might/might not need. Also, mentally, the idea of shopping for coats in August or swimsuits in February doesn't appeal to me - hate having to wait weeks to wear something. So I like the idea in theory, but all that said, I'm afraid Ruffles and JessF are right in their interpretation of what this really means ('fast-fashion production'). I'm hoping that's not the case and that it's just an attempt to correct their production scheduling issues and delivery delays.

      Delete
    4. As I said, we shall have to wait and see how it translates. It may mean more fast fashion. Or it may be an attempt to prevent seasonally-inappropriate things from going straight to sale or lingering inconveniently in stores. It may just be an adjustment to the timing and quantity of releases in order to keep stock moving and selling. While I live in a cold country, I have no interest in buying sweaters or coats in August on a full-price new release and then stuffing them in a closet for 3 months. So I wonder whether this is also an attempt at selling more pieces at full price because they will be wearable immediately. I am willing to wait and judge later (though that lamé sweater deserves immediate and damning judgement).

      Delete
    5. Agree with all of your points, cagliari67, and I sincerely hope this works out better for JC and for us, their customers. Will have to wait and see!

Also agree with you about that Lame sweater! (And that cold-shoulder bell-sleeve top, while we're at it. That top honestly makes that model look like the valance on a window, as if she were wearing curtains. Eeeek!)

    6. ITA @cagliari67 and @TM93. I remember trying on wool sweatpants a few years ago. They were so cute, but it was in the 90s outside. I did buy them though, albeit a few months later (needless to say by then they had gone on sale too). So Yay for offering seasonally appropriate clothing.

On the other hand fast fashion for me is H&M, Zara, Primark (opening their first stores stateside in Sept, I think) etc., where there is something new every week, low price point, but the quality just isn't there. Wear your clothes a couple of times and then throw them away.

      Delete
    7. It's a great idea, generally, and I, too, hope it plays out well for J Crew and us. At the moment, the merino tiger sweater is in stock (online), but the utility dress isn't available until late August. Guess which one I want now.

      Delete
    8. I personally hate shopping out of season. I can't handle trying on a wool coat when it's 100 degrees outside. I sort of wish the entire fashion industry would quit with it. With that said I would hate for this to be further descent into fast fashion. It would also be a lot harder to shop sale, which I think is JCrew's real agenda. I think the average practical consumer, who has a life, could care less about shopping ahead of season, so by the time they are ready to shop the entire store is on sale.

      Delete
    9. I agree, Jessica - this may be the strategy that finally gets customers to stop shopping sale. I'm used to waiting to buy until the clothes are seasonally appropriate, at which point they're often on markdown with an additional % off. Good for me but not so much for JC.

      Delete
    10. I'm in favor of seasonally appropriate clothing, but Fall is my favorite season for clothing so I'm disappointed we won't see anything soon. I'm finished buying anything for summer, so I guess my wallet will be safe for a few months.

  3. Re next week's roll out:
Love the croc heels and the camo pants. Camo is a print I haven't done before. And love how the embossed croc part not only covers the heel itself but also the part of the shoe above! And as I'm trying (emphasis on trying) to shop less two items I love might be just enough.

    7. I did buy the Tiered Eyelet Dress for full price even though it is Poly, petite sizes seem to sell out so quickly especially with the price point. I hope the poly isn't a deal breaker. I wonder why they didn't introduce it at the beginning of summer instead of mid-July.

      Delete
    8. I feel a little silly, I should have thought to post the link. Thanks maryeb for doing so!

    9. No problem @MrsGarzelloni. I wouldn't have posted it unless someone was interested in it.

    10. @TeriLynn: The Tiered Eyelet Dress is one of the few items that caught my eye with this roll-out. Very pretty. I feel like I've been searching for a dress like that since May! I hope you have a chance to post a review or a picture. I'm currently waiting for the silk shantung dress and the tiered spaghetti strap midi dress to arrive, but if those don't work out, I will order the Tiered Eyelet Dress next in my search for a versatile summer weekend dress!

      Delete
    11. @TeriLynn, if/when you receive this dress, can you please let us know whether it's really all poly or whether that description just applies to the trim or lining, perhaps? I know that's what the description says, but I'm wondering whether that's a typo - hard to believe they would make an All Poly dress for summer. 😮

      Delete
    12. I definitely will share when it arrives. There was a geo lace shift from a few years back that has a cotton outerlayer and poly liner, I think they share similar characteristics which is another reason I thought it was worth a try.

      Delete
    13. Thanks! I'm thinking that that's most likely the case - cotton outer, poly lining. The dress certainly looks like cotton in that photo, especially if they used an eyelet design. Hope the dress works out for you!

    14. Thanks! It looks like the package is arriving via stagecoach since the "estimated date" for arrival is next Saturday. It has been released but not marked as shipped.
When I pay for shipping I am always disappointed in how long it takes. I just paid for shipping on a dress from Loft on Wed and it arrived yesterday via Narvar of all things.

  5. A nice treat for a Friday, got a VIP perk alert email for early access to the new arrivals. I know it's a marketing thing, but it does make me feel a little special.

Mentioned a few things I liked from searching 'Pre-order' in the 'Looking to Love' thread. Saw more that I like today.

    Daisy lace top. So pretty.
Collared Tippi. Great, easy work option for me to look polished and pulled together.
Embroidered Peasant top. Pretty color and embroidery. For days when I don't want to look so preppy/classic.
Short-sleeve Shirt dress. Have two sleeveless versions from years ago and would love to add this one to the rotation.
Cameron cropped pant in stretch chino. Great colors. Will have to call to get the length as they may be full length on me. Either way they look promising.
Relaxed Boatneck Sweater - I always like how a more open neck looks on me. Just have to decide if I should size down or not as I'd like to wear it alone and layered over a tee or shirt.

Can't afford to get all of these and will have to make some choices.

    1. Thanks for sharing, maryeb! I was glad to see a few more things, including the ones you mentioned. I, too, am curious about that s/s shirtdress and I like that collared Tippi (at first i thought it was a little too "Wednesday Addams', but I'm glad they made the collar in a striped pattern.)

I still wish JC had some sort of Customer Focus group that they were able to run their designs by -- I think many of us are done w/the trend stuff, as well as all the ruffles (I'm thinking of both the Tiered and the Eyelet Tops). Oh well.

The new Signet bag style looks cute! I like the contrasting handles on these.

    2. Now that I can see everything, there are a few things I at least want to try on that salvage the rollout from being a total loss for me. The sheath dress with the *small* ruffle trim (not the clownish-looking one) and the utility dress. Says utility dress not avail to ship til Aug 22--what about the new wear it now policy??

      Delete
    3. I found a few things to love, too. The everyday chambray shirt (like I need more chambray), the chambray shirt dress (my factory one shrunk), the academy loafers, the tulle trimmed jackie, the embellished tee... I don't really need any of these things though and will probably make only 1-2 thoughtful picks on items that can take me into the fall.

      Delete
    4. @maryeb Thanks so much for the Early Access link!
And I can see I'm in trouble. I found so much to love: both the Tippis (the one with the collar and the one in camo print), the mules, the Paley plaid pant, the ruffle Jackie cardi......

    5. Thank you! I found a few things to love, like that crewneck sweater with the fringe sleeves, tie waist skirt in Italian wool, the new Signet bag, the Tippi sweaters...

I also hope the green striped button down becomes available soon. I like it better than the blue one showing.

  7. No store visit for me this weekend, but I will go next week to check out new arrivals. There's a lot of meh, but still seeing a few things I like and a few more thanks to the early access link :)
Love the new style/colors of the signet flap bag (first I said oooh, pink, then the calf hair, and the other solid ones! choices!!), the daisy lace peplum, perfect meeting dress, striped dress (which I need like a hole in the head) and the ruffle hem utility dress. A lot of it is too fussy and won't last in to fall. I'm missing all of the pretty pumps and flats!!

Not a fan of the tiered ruffle tops either...will see how it looks in person next week.

    3. @Anne: I like that Perfect Meeting Dress too! That one strikes me as a good buy. I can see wearing it now & also wearing it in fall and winter layered over a button down or a turtleneck. But I have lots of those types of dresses at this point; it would have to go on serious sale for me to pull the trigger.

  8. I will wait out this rollout. Fall is my favorite JC season and I always find something to love in the fall rollouts, even if there are a lot of question marks.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is keeping me very busy in the meantime. There is a lot to love, for me anyway!

  9. The Signet flap bag is cute. I'd like to wait on a few more colors although the yellow might be a nice touch for the dreary winter months (although not that fitting in my mostly basic wardrobe). The camouflage pants are also a nice touch. That's about all for this shopper! Does anyone know if they send an email to ask if you still want an item before charging and shipping on the pre-orders? I've not done one before.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No if you pre-order it gets sent once it's available automatically. They assume you want it. :)

    2. Rashawnda, in the past I have received only shipping notifications for items I preordered. They assume you want the item, and charge and ship when it becomes available without other notice.

    3. Love the Signet flap bag too! Gray or Saddle color.

      Delete
    4. I was interested in the Signet Flap Bag until I saw that it's literally just the Signet bag with a flap addd. I wish they had gotten rid of the zipper. If J. Crew is going to keep making small/small-ish bags, I wish they wouldn't have that zipper closure. It's nice for security but I can't stand a bag that I can't easily reach into without scraping my hand on a big zipper.

  10. I do like the Nordstrom Anniversary sale but the majority of items are made specially for it and are just going to go on clearance a few weeks after the sale as I have seen every year. So I think it is somewhat of a misconception about people think they are getting greats deals. The anniversary prices are still high. Don't get me wrong I will check it out and maybe buy but it is certainly not any bargains. I know this is a JC blog but seen so many people mention Nordstrom I just wanted to comment.

    1. A lot of items sell out though, and I usually don't see the beauty bundle deals get marked down right away after. Also Nordstrom has no return limit so if something you bought takes a better markdown you can always rebuy and return from the first order.

  11. rounding out some comments here:

card holder... never got an email... because why would you want a card holder to pre-order, right? /s

and speaking of pre-ordering, i did preorder the NY sweatshirt and the ruffle hemmed utility dress... i figure they're both summer into fall stuff and fairly reasonably priced if i can't re-order with a discount or something...

everything else is meh to me. i'm hoping to purchase a cool plaid blazer later for fall, but i can't see myself really ordering much more. it's clear with all the OTS tops and stuff, that jcrew is heading in a direction i don't like right now.

  12. Hi, I'm new here.I also ordered the utility dress. What shoes/jacket do you guys plan to pair it with? I do not really own anything in safari/khaki and not sure what to pair it with.

    Replies
    1. I want mine to wear while it's still hot out, so no jacket, and strappy flat sandals, either metallic tone or black.

      Delete
    2. Natalya, welcome! I had a similar dress from a few years ago that I paired with sand colored peep toe booties as well as cognac colored sandals. I think I wore black sandals with it as well. Leopard print would be cute too :)

      Delete
    3. Hi Natalya. I'll probably order it as well. When it's cooler I'm planning to wear it with tall brown leather boat shoe boots, the Lucite Heels in fiery red, or my croc stamped cognac kitten heels. When warmer I would wear my croc Foulard Print Tassel flats, brown braided leather flats, yellowish tan canvas buckle heels, or black leather ballet flats with a cross cross elastic ankle strap.

It's easy to wear other neutrals with a dress like this, but I like the idea of a contrasting pop of bright color like the red heels. I think that's much more fun.

I think a white denim or other heavy cotton jacket would work with this style.

Let us know what you pair it with.

      Delete
    4. One more tip, Natalya -- doubtful you have mustard-yellow shoes, but if you wanted to swap out the belt for a pop of color, you could try yellow or orange tones. I have a similar dress in this color from last season and I'll often wear leopard print items (or tortoise), as well as gold or a tan/cognac brown, as others suggested above.

Hope you like this dress! I liked it, too, but already have something similar.

  16. Went in today, sale rack is clogged with ruffles of all kinds. I tried on the Belted Gingham Dress one size too big, will watch for a popback in my size. I'd have to wear it without the belt as it hit me pretty high (5'9") and I don't have a well-defined waist anyway. I also tried the new Piped Dress in Tuscan Olive. It's very nice, fit is TTS for size 12. I liked the heavier, stretchy fabric, but wasn't sure about the white piping on the pockets. It doesn't show in the online photos, but you can see the black piping on the white dress pockets. The pockets were still sewn shut, and I'd be worried about the pockets gaping and being highlighted by the piping. I left empty-handed, I'm pretty much done with J.Crew for the summer, and based on the pre-order preview, won't be purchasing anything this fall.
On the bright side, I did get a really cute white-on-white Pilcro Embroidered Denim Jacket at Anthro. The embroidery adds a nice bit of detail and texture while keeping the look neutral so it won't compete if you're wearing it with a patterned top or dress. It's also very soft and felt great on. Fit was TTS, and it was 30% off the sale price.

  19. Off topic....

I bought a silk pleated ruffled top G1436 (ok, if I'm being honest, I bought a few of them in different colors when the price was slashed recently). I was washing my hands and the water sprayed and now I have water stains on the dark mauve one. I've tried using my steamer to try to even things out but no luck. Does the fact that this silk stained from contact with water mean that I cannot handwash the garment without ending up with splotches? I wasn't sure I was going to handwash because the pleats intimidated me, but does the water staining mean that handwashing is not an option? Any laundering tips? Thank you.

    1. If you wet it all, the stains are most likely going to even out. This happens to me all the time when I spot clean my husband's ties or my own silk garments. I always hand wash silk since I'm allergic to dry cleaning, so fear not! Silk is a really old fiber, and that's how they cleaned it before drycleaning :)

  21. Has anyone who has visited a Madewell store recently checked to see if their sale's on sale? I heard a few weeks ago that there would be some sort of discount after the 4th of July weekend.

  22. Picked up my tie waist chambray top today; it's a keeper. Almost wish there wasn't a side tie (trendy), but it's not really even that obvious. 50% off sale in my store. If anyone missed the black and camel Avery's this past winter, my store has a size 7 in stock (tagged $189.99 pre-discount). Would love for a JCA to get them. They are at Cool Springs Galleria in Franklin, TN.

  23. That Pierre Frey print beach coverup looks beautiful. (Haven't seen in person, only online.) I wish they did last years Into the Wild print as a coverup. (I loved the print but none of the pieces really worked for me.)

    1. That print is appealing. I probably wouldn't wear it but it caught my eye. Same about the Into The Wild print.

    2. That's kind of how I felt, I tried the into the wild bandana (because that I would wear) but when I folded it to wear you didn't really see the print, so it didn't make any sense,
