"Looking to VENT" with J.Crew

This is the weekly "Looking to VENT with J.Crew" post, a place to share our not-so-stellar experiences with J.Crew.

If you have recently experienced a frustrating situation with J.Crew, maybe you might be willing to share that information with us in this post.

Please feel free to share your story on almost any topic— including poor experiences with purchases & orders, promotions/ offers, in-store visits, transactions with store associates, etc.

  1. Think there might be some new arrivals on the site this morning.

  2. It's really irritating when there's a new promo code on the website and it won't work. Get your act together JC!

  3. Final sale is back... ugh.... went to store for returns yesterday. All sale items were 50% off. ( Rockefeller center in ny)
Lots of shoes, tieddie pants, lots of cocoon coats in purple all sizes...left empty handed... but may order majesty coat in grey....

  4. A lot of popbacks and new markdowns this morning but...just did a mock checkout with items I'd added to my cart and the code doesn't work. Thanks for making the decision for me that I don't need a thing!

  5. Fingers crossed-- just placed an order for the sequin Sophia heels that popped back! Code worked for me. Hoping I don't regret my final sale purchase (or that CS is merciful if they don't work out).

  6. A few new arrivals this morning, featuring tulle, ruffles, GoogleTranslate. If I had to pick, I'd say my favorite is the off-the-shoulder ruffles SWIMSUIT. Yes, it appears there really is such a thing.

    1. Let's hope it doesn't fall down when you actually swim with it on

  7. I actually contacted "my" VPS because the code wasn't working and there's ONE MORE pair of shoes that I'd like, the lucite heels in black.

  8. Monicabonica, I love those shoes! This has definitely been a great year for J.Crew shoes.

    1. Your insta inspired me! I needed to have them once I saw your pictures, plus being able to check with you on sizing. I love things that are just a little bit odd, so the ability to shift the way the sequins face to change the color is very "me."

  9. final sale...seals the shopping ban for me until its over.

  10. No purchases for me with final sale being back. Code wouldn't work for me this morning and the pop backs I want are if things where I am unsure of sizing and I am not willing to take the chance.

  11. A separate vent - I received a sweater from an order I placed last week and it arrived to me sans tag from a store...go figure, the sweater didn't work out and I'll be returning it, but you'd think they could stick a tag on it!

  12. tissue turtleneck....holes. returning.

  13. Not a vent, but more of a curious incident. Back in November, I was contacted by a friendly VPS -- emailed back and forth a few times to discuss likes and dislikes, sizing, etc. Then I contacted him right after the holidays to place an order (wanted him to get the commission.) Never heard back! Strange - it made me wonder whether he's still with the company.

(In any case, I ended up placing the order myself -- it was for the:

Patch pocket denim skirt in Foxley wash Item G0743

Mini review -- it's very cute, really like the pockets and length-wise it works for me, but note that I'm 4'11". Hits above the knee though not super short or anything. It is, however, VERY A-line, which is not mentioned in the product description and it's hard to tell from Stock photos. Also, my usual Matchstick/Toothpick denim jean size didn't fit (too tight at the waist). I need to exchange or at least try on a bigger size -- maybe it'll fall with less of an A-line? Very cute skirt though.

  14. Did anyone notice that the good prices for things yesterday are now gone. I am talking about you Liberty popover and wool Jackie cardigan. Didn't want any of it anyway. I am moving on. My husband had a melt down on me last night when he tried to put up the Christmas tree and the space had been filled with what else???? Shoes. Oh dear, didn't know he was going to try to put it up or I would have moved them to another secret location, under the bed in the guest room. Oops!!! We are going to Europe for our 20th wedding anniversary later this year so I really have to cut back.

    1. I did notice the price change. Plus now the items are final sale so I am glad I broke the ban to purchase yesterday. As stated above I won't be buying with final sale unless it is something I am sure will fit. Makes me feel not so guilty about the year end buying frenzy. I think it was a wise choice.

    2. Yes. That's crazy. Lots of things went back up like the sweaters, liberty shirt and wool patio pants.... did buy few cashmere sweaters yesterday.... and a majesty peacoat today in size 2 in grey.... had been out of stock for long time. Had it adjusted by my VPS to 50 off as in store.

    3. Enjoy the shoes! I still have a pair of Avery tassel shoes in the box.... almost embarrassed to show to my hubby.... this is in adition to LUcite heels and 2 pairs of Tory burches....lol

    6. Maybe we need a virtual support group. (Kind of like this, but we CANT encourage each other to buy things.) my name is Suz and I admit I bought those wide leg chinos in black, black pixies, the black tuxedo shirt, and black lucite heels. I need an intervention.

    7. @SuzHas, haha, yes!!! Sign me up!! I think I mostly feel guilty and inclined to take it down a notch is because I ended up spending more than I thought I would during all the holiday sales. I didn't keep it all, got some pieces I really like, but I also know that I didn't exactly *need* some of them, technically. Sigh. For now, I'm just glad that I'm able to resist! 😉

    8. Thanks for the support, Suz!

  15. I guess I should wait til tomorrow - this isn't a vent.

Really like the full length chinos in the new roll out. We've been asking for them and here they are. Would love a review!

Only other thing that caught my eye is the geometric eyelet shell. Not ground-breaking but might be a solid addition to my wardrobe.

Okay - I guess there's a vent - where the heck are the dresses and the jackets? I guess I'm a broken record on that front.

    1. I just wish the full length chinos came in khaki. It looks like navy and an off white. I want a pair of true khaki.

    2. Is the leg as wide as it looks in the picture? As someone that is not so tall, a wide leg make me look short and squatty. It says straight leg but doesn't look it.

      Delete
    3. I wish there was a tall option for those pants. Maybe the next rollout?

    4. Cousy-saw the shell at my store in SF, and it looks nice, not flimsy at all. Didn't try it on though...

    5. I confess... I bit and bought the Navy chinos... I'm 5'4" so I'll report back once I get them.

  16. Really thought about breaking my shopping ban for that Saint James striped shirt Ina liked. Stupid code still doesn't work. I guess it wasn't meant to be!

    1. A store can do it for you. I ordered a couple last week. They're great shirts and you can't beat the price.

    2. Oh, thank you! You're making it harder to not break my shopping ban ;)

    3. The code finally worked... I picked up the tee. I also picked up two tees for my husband at $9.99 you can't beat the price. I may have ended up with another excursion vest, too. 😳 So much for my shopping ban 🙈🙈🙈

    4. Agree the pricing is great and the items you've bought you're going to get lots of wear out of. I've worn those St.James tees multiple times and in general I like J Crew's tees. And what's not to love about the excursion vests!

I was finally able to order the one thing I wanted, Collection maxi skirt in wool flannel; the grey is a great color and I love the tartan plaid. I've worn it a bunch. Problem with phones at Shorthills so took a while. Sold out online but stores definitely have inventory, so I'd call if there's something you want. For those interested in Drake, it's all on sale.

In new arrivals, I like the geometric eyelet shell. Baltic Sea floral print is interesting, but looking forward to other print options for spring. Photos on @carol06hawk show promise. Got "burned" last year with spring pre-orders. Everything made it to sale + %off sale, so I'll be wish listing most items.

  17. I work near NYC Fifth Ave store and snagged Sadie Calfs for $40. And there is a pair if black- sz 7 for $29. What a deal.

    1. Jen, that is an awesome deal!! I'm glad I don't work near that store, otherwise I'd be in serious, serious trouble! (sometimes i'll go there on my lunch break, coming from 34th St/near Macys. I like the manager there, he's good at what he does, helpful).

    2. It is dangerous. I was actually working downtown today, I live in Jersey City and take the PATH and was looking for the Jcrew? Can't find it. Have to try again tomorrow.

      Delete
    3. Downtown, as in, by Wall Street? My husband works down there and I know he goes to one that's in a shopping center. Ugh, blanking on the name but I think it's a concept store.

      Delete
    4. There's a J.Crew at Brookfield Place - @TM93 guessing that's where you mean downtown?

      Delete
    5. @Anne, thanks, yes! That's exactly the one I was thinking of. Just asked my husband and was coming back to report. It's inside a mall (not sure what other stores are there, never been.)

  18. Five separate package notifications for the order I placed yesterday. Just another reason to try to limit my shopping. I ordered multiple sizes of a few things due to inconsistent sizing. Hate looking like a shopoholic. I will be returning half of it once I figure out what fits.

  19. @maqsad, it's only damaging to the marital relationship if 1) we hide the purchases from our spouse, or 2) we buy more than our budget allows. Right? Husbands will never understand the need for 10 coats and 20 pairs of black heels (different material, height and shape of heel, shape of toe, etc.). No need for him to approve unless we are singlehandedly causing havoc to our budget and put the marriage at financial risk.

    1. Yes. But,also, there's an impact of the constant stream of shopping bc of the tryon/buy/sale/PA cycle. Utilization doesn't enter into it, nor, really, do financials. It's just a peeve, which gets aggravated.
